Why was Robert Pattinson partying with Vince Vaughn & Joaquin Phoenix?

Hollywood breeds some strange bedfellows, but generally the pattern is: people are friends with people they work with OR they’re friends with people they meet at clubs and parties OR they’re friends with fellow parents and they have some kind of connection through their kids or their kids’ school. I guess that’s not just Hollywood, but that happens in the real world too, although in the real world, a lot of people keep in touch with school/college friends, and you rarely hear about that in Hollywood. What am I getting at? I’m struggling to understand how Robert Pattinson ended up partying with Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix. Because that happened Friday night in LA.

These pics are of Rob leaving a “private party” at The Larchmont. Vince and Joaquin were there, as were Florence Welch and assorted “Hollywood types” which you can see in these photos. According to Pacific Coast News, Sparkles and his friends (who seem like they might be rolling him, right?) “jumped into an old school Chevy Camaro that had a ‘No Smoking’ sign posted on the back seats where Rob sat.” And Joaquin was apparently in the front seat. How in the world did poor Sparkles end up partying with Joaquin and Vince?!?!

Three guys walk into a restaurant. That may sound like the beginning of a joke, but it’s actually the beginning of something else: Robert Pattinson’s boys’ night out with Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix. On Friday, April 5, the unlikely trio were spotted hitting the town together in L.A.
Pattinson, 26, joined Vaughn, 43, and Phoenix, 38, at the Larchmont Restaurant in Larchmont Village, where they grabbed dinner with a few other friends. It’s unclear what else they did — or how they all know one another.

One thing they have in common? Reese Witherspoon. All three have appeared opposite the Oscar-winning star in various films over the last decade. Phoenix was Johnny Cash to her June Carter in 2005’s Walk the Line, for which she won the Academy Award; Vaughn played her leading man in the 2008 rom-com Four Christmases; and Pattinson rescued her from an abusive circus trainer in the 2011 movie adaptation of Water for Elephants.

Pattinson — whom his former costar has called a “very sensitive soul” — also famously hid out at the actress’ Ojai, Calif., ranch last July, after Kristen Stewart was caught cheating on him with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. (A source told Us Weekly at the time that Witherspoon hoped the rustic retreat would have a “calming effect” on the Twilight actor as he dealt with his heartache.)

Since then, of course, Pattinson and Stewart have reconciled. Earlier this week, before the actor’s boys’ night out, the two were spotted holding hands and grabbing sushi together in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood. They looked “really happy and lovey-dovey,” an eyewitness told PopSugar. “Kristen grabbed his arm, and they were walking and joking.”

Hahaha, yeah I’m sure they all went out to a private party to talk about how they all know Reese. The Reese Connection is interesting, though, because they all have such different experiences with her. Apparently, Vince and Reese did NOT get along at all when they working together and they’ve both sworn to never do it again. As for Sparkles, I think Reese mothers him or acts like his big sister, and there is nothing romantic or sexual between them whatsoever. But Joaquin? I’ve always had a theory that Reese and Joaquin fooled around with each other while they were making Walk the Line. Reese’s marriage (to Ryan Phillippe) was falling apart and when Reese and Joaquin promoted the movie… well, they just seemed very “connected”.

Anyway, Vince and Joaquin can really party, so I’m sort of worried about these new, hardcore influences on poor little Sparkles. If this outing was Rob trying to prove that he can party with the big boys… well, why is that something you want to prove?

Now that he’s got the $$$$ Dior contract he’s being introduced to the Hollywood big time. Won’t be long before compromising rumors will leak…

  2. marie says:

I would never have guessed Vince and Joaquin partied together, I’m more hung up on that than the other. When I was Rob’s age I partied with anybody, and everybody so it doesn’t seem that odd.

    • Kim says:

I agree what are Vaughn and Phoenix talking about doing Wedding Crashers sequel LOL

    • andy says:

Vince and Joaquin are good friends. They have worked together on two films (Return to Paradise and Clay Pigeons).

    • itchycoo says:

Joaquin and Vince worked together twice in the ’90s (“Return to Paradise” and “Clay Pigeons”).

  3. andy says:

Florence Welch was also at the party.

Back to the rumors of Reese and Joaquin, I heard that he fell into a deep depression over Reese. She supposedly rejected him. He has a habit of falling for his costars. Joaquin did date and dump Ginnifer Goodwin during the filming of WTL. She was not pleased. lol

  4. Janet says:

Probably needed some relief from KStew, who doesn’t impress me as being a barrel of fun.

  5. Mia 4S says:

Yeah I don’t buy the Reese connection, I thought it was well known she and Vince didn’t get on at all.

These look like three who enjoy their liquor and…other stuff. I’m sure they’d get along fine. 😉

  6. Ali says:

Well I guess R-Patz has his man card back……

    • Mia 4S says:

From hanging out with whiny Joaquin and Vince the eternal 8 year old? Yeah….no.

Joaquin’s a great actor, but that boy’s insecurities have insecurities! Vaughn? Well he’s been trading on the man child persona for so long, how could anyone take him seriously?!

  7. Hannah says:

Joaquin probably hiring them both for his new movie.

  8. Maritza says:

    They’re probably weed smoking buddies.

  9. Annie says:

Not exactly the best crowd, but an upgrade from Kristen’s hipster hanger-ons posse. Absolutely. At least this bunch is accomplished on their own.

  10. Adeli says:

I think it’s cool that Rob hangs out with the grown ups and is working those Hollywood connections. Joaquin Phoenix is a brilliant actor and any working association with him can only be good for Rob. And the less he’s seen with Kstew’s juvenile hipster crew, the better for him.
    Robquin is Unbroken!

ITA. So much better than hanging around with KStew’s moronic friends skipping and jumping all over the place. Loser bunch.

I like it that Rob is mixing it up and meeting other actors from Hollywood that have some worth. Tired of seeing KS by his side.

Rob made it very obvious how much he was rooting for The Master and Joaquin during the award season. They probably got along well talking about music and movies… Rob is a cinephile who is into music like JP.

      • Beth says:

Except rob was out with his own loser friend, al turki, weekend and i dont mean the uber talented britpack musicians that liek to go for piggyback rides on rpatzz, literally and figuratively!

To soak up some talent through osmosis.

  12. mia girl says:

Well as far as this couple’s recent HW associations go…
Pattinson’s Rock, Paper, Scissors – Phoenix
    beats
Stewart’s Rock, Paper, Scissors – Lohan
    EVERY time.

    • Original A says:

Kind of ironic that’s how it plays out in the tabloids, considering that RPattz is apparently buddies and has been photographed a few times with a producer who is also a Lohan friend. KStew, on the other hand, has a PR woman and long term friend who dropped Lohan as a client several years ago in a cold ass way. Honestly, I think the Lohan rumors are false & they probably all just have a friend in common…but I do find it funny how the dude constantly manages to duck all the rumors.

  13. Another Ann says:

This looks more like networking than an ongoing drinking buddies relationship. It’s not unusual for people discussing a future project to get together for dinner or drinks in HW.

  14. Honey says:

Cocaine is a hell of a drug!

  15. Apples says:

Two of those guys in the last picture are LA Club owners.

RPatz’s face is looking kind of hot. I feel like he needs an intervention from his Ray Ban Clubmaster sunglasses. They are very cool in theory, but, make his face look ugly.

    • another nina says:

I guess his usual goal is the uglier the better. But he is not pretty enough for grunge anymore…

  16. another nina says:

Supposedly, common denominator is Florence and the m., who were partying with Vince and Phoenix, and Pattz obviously knows F. (probably originally through Katy Perry but then weren’t they part of some Tw. soundtrack?) So, who knows whether Pattz originally got invited to this party or joined it when he stumbled across…

  17. Pete says:

Lol this is funny to me. I am more like why the hell is Joaquin Phoneix lowering himself to party with the twilight dude??? Joaquin is a brilliant actor twilight dude should be so lucky that he gets to hang with him.

  18. Thomas says:

Robert Pattison does not deserve to be in Joaquin Phoneix presence. This is like kristen stewart hanging out with kate winslet. Blasphemy!!

  19. Mi says:

I ”love”logic of some people here:they can’t hang out together because Phoenix is a better actor, than Rob lol.He has very similar to Joaquin acting style the craziness+vulnerability+stillness of R.Gosling.I really loved River Phoenix, thanks to him I became a fan of art house movies, especially after watching My Own Private Idaho.

    • Lorna says:

@ mi. you are out of your mind, there is nothing similar about phoenix and pattisons acting style. Phoneix is what we call a dangerous unpredictable instinctive actor. I dont even know how to describe pattison but those are not the words i would use, bound comes to mind and sometimes he translates as wooden.

      • Tig says:

Not sure who “we” is, but JP’s style of acting is beginning to be self-parody. He was so convincing and intense in “Walk the Line”- now, it like he’s “phoning in the crazy”- and I did see “The Master”- he was much better in WTL.
