Here’s a question for you married ladies: do you take off your wedding ring if it doesn’t “go” with an outfit? Better yet: how does one determine that your wedding ring clashes with what you’re wearing, exactly? That was the excuse Jennifer Lopez gave to the press when she turned up on the Golden Globes red carpet without her marital rock. Sounds legitimate enough when taken on face value, but when added to the already growing pile of stories about her impending divorce from husband Marc Anthony, you can’t help but wonder.
JENNIFER LOPEZ has denied further rumours her marriage to MARC ANTHONY is in trouble, insisting she didn’t wear her wedding ring to the Golden Globes because ‘it didn’t go with the dress.’
The actress made the bizarre remark after she was snapped posing on the red carpet at the awards ceremony without her wedding band.But J. Lo insists she was just making a fashion statement.
She told American magazine In Touch: “Every time I’m not wearing my ring, people think I’m getting divorced.
“That’s crazy. It just didn’t go with the dress.
“Divorce is not and was never an option.”
The couple has been dogged by break-up reports for weeks, with one U.S. tabloid claiming the couple will announce a break-up publicly on Valentine’s Day.
I do think it’s a bit silly to assume that a couple is breaking up because one of them goes to an event without their wedding ring. Especially when that couple is going out to said events together. But the excuse does seem a little weird. I wear my ring no matter what I’m wearing for an outfit. It’s a beautiful ring and has a lot of special meaning to me. If an outfit clashed that much with it, chances are, I’d ditch the outfit before I’d ditch the ring. In fact, I recently had to take my wedding ring off temporarily, until after my baby is born because my fingers are all swollen- and I feel naked without it! But then again, I’m not J.Lo.

I don’t know what Lopez’s ring looks like, and I don’t care enough to go looking, but I can imagine it’s ostentatious and showy. If she would have chosen a ring that was more indicative of the meaning of a wedding ring, rather than some gaudy, pretentious one, she’d never have to worry about it “going with” anything. I have a plain white gold band and white gold and diamond solitaire that never clashes with anything! Not even ugly, gold, inappropriate gowns. }=0P

I agree, Baholicious. I don’t buy her excuse for a minute, even with Marc standing right next to her. Refusing to wear the ring sounds like a passive-agressive way to get back at him for something or other.
Well, the back fat didn’t go with the dress either but that didn’t stop her from wearing it.
I don’t always wear my wedding rings but that’s usually because I don’t want them to get messed up at work. Sometimes I just leave the house without them. I doesn’t mean that my hubs and I aren’t together anymore, I just flaked out.
But I’m not going to any formal event without them and my rings always match my outfit. How can they not?
Yes, it’s an awful dress. She should have ditched the dress and just worn the ring. Now, THAT would have gotten her some attention.

MSat: You’ll get that ring back on soon. At least you got it off. I didn’t bother until it was too late — my hands were swollen up like sausages and that ring wouldn’t come off unless my finger came with it. It left a dent in my finger than actually took months (after giving birth) to heal.
hmm let’s see. These past few weeks have been the most publicity she has had since she hooked up with Mark. Of course she’s going to milk it and try to make it last as long as possible by not wearing her ring.

I know women who don’t always wear the ring.
Some of them sometimes forget and some have swollen fingers sometimes.
I have no idea what the state of her marriage, but wearing wedding bands is not a big deal today.
My fingers sometimes swell, especially when its hot outside and I’ve had too much salt. That doesn’t mean I’m angling for a divorce, it means I’ve got fat fingers.
I will state again that it is a ploy to drum up chatter. These two are too self indulgant for most folks to care about them anymore.

If wedding rings were something casual, something to be tossed aside coz it didn’t “match” with an outfit, why do we even have wedding rings in the first place? We wear them because they are a symbol of the love someone else has for us and our committment to marriage and fidelity. To make those kind of remarks like “oh, it didn’t go with the outfit” is almost like a slap in the face to the person that gave you the ring. at least that is what i would feel if my spouse said that about the ring i put on their finger at our wedding.
maybe jennifer and marc have this weird thing going on, but if you look at previous pictures of when they were first married she wore the ring all the time, and in the past few months she hardly wears it. i think that is more telling than they’d like to admit.
I thought that engagement/wedding rings were exempt from outfit coordination. Plenty of people with coloured stones in their rings still wear them, regardless of the colour of their outfit!
Wedding bands go with everything. I say this as someone who put herself through college working in jewelry and then went back to it between jobs a few years ago.
FFS, my mother’s in the process of a bitter divorce and she still hasn’t taken her rings off.
So JLo didn’t wear her ring a few weeks ago and it was big news. Perhaps she was making a statement to marc, who knows/cares. Seems to me that if you want to put that story to bed and ‘prove’ it had nothing to do with marital issues, turn up with hubby, snuggle and play all happy couple in front of the cameras without the same ring and idiots all over the world will believe that you leave it off on purpose all the time for fashion’s sake.
JHo can’t stand the fact that her career is over. Sure, she’s probably blaming the kids and her husband but it would have fizzled anyway and she’d really have nothing.

This past Tuesday, for the night of the ten Inaugural Balls, I noticed there was no wedding ring worn by our First Lady Michelle Obama. She wore a large ring on her middle finger. Coincidentally, Jennifer left her wedding rings home that night as well. Until then, the N.Y.Daily News, was headlining this odd Valentine’s Day divorce prediction.
