Gwyneth Paltrow goes braless, makeup-less at Hamptons charity event: cute?

Gwyneth Paltrow has been vacationing in the Hamptons for a while now. She owns a house in the Hamptons, and I guess she and her family spend at least a month there every year. Over the weekend, Gwyneth participated in the 9th Annual Authors Night, a benefit for the East Hampton Library. Goop looked like she wasn’t wearing any makeup, right? But that suits her – I prefer Goop without makeup, with her hair kind of wavy and frizzy. That’s my favorite look for her, although at this event, it does look like Gwyneth attempted to flat-iron her hair but then sort of gave up on it. And you know what? I really like her little white shift dress. It’s incredibly cute and summery and it suits her.

Anyway, there aren’t that many stories about Dame Goop deigning to mingle with the peasantry. Which basically means that the Hamptons are full of celebrities and rich people and Goop fit right in. She even wore a name-tag for part of the event! Which is cute. Page Six also had this:

Gwyneth Paltrow was supported by hubby Chris Martin and kids Moses and Apple as she signed copies of her book “It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great” at East Hampton’s Authors Night.

A huge line formed under the tent at Gardiner Farm, and she ran out of books. But she found a spare for one disappointed fan, crossing out the already written dedication “To Sarah,” and changing it to “To Susie.”

Also there were Eric Fischl, Philippe Petit, Nile Rodgers and the indefatigable Dr. Ruth.

[From Page Six]

I didn’t see any photos of Chris Martin, there are just reports that he was there. He must have dodged the cameras whenever it seemed like they might take a photo of him supporting his wife. I’m including one pic of Apple, who I still say is going to grow up into a really beautiful, striking young woman. She’s going to look like a mix of her mom and Kate Moss, I think. Apple has those wide-set cat-like eyes like Kate Moss.

PS… Did Goop wear a bra to this event? I don’t think she did. Gross Goop.

  1. Leah says:

I think her daughter looks a bit like Chris Martin in this picture

  2. Zoid says:

I 100% support her lack of make up, and the dress is fine. Not much else to say about this really.

    • Tapioca says:

I feel so fresh and youthful. Thanks Gwynnie!

(Seriously – it’s refreshing to see the reality once in a while)

      • Zoid says:

I know! I get so sick of celebs always wearing makeup to look flawless, all the time! Or worse, wearing 10 lbs of concealer and shilling skin care products.
Women have enough to deal with, with aging. I don’t want to have to grow older and feel like I have to be ‘made up’ all the time to look acceptable.

      • Granger says:

Yes! That’s what I look like without make-up! A few wrinkles! Crow’s feet! Shadows under the eyes! Uneven skin tone! So… without make-up… Gwynnie looks… like your average 40-year-old woman! And as stupid as it is, that makes me feel better. I wish more celebs could be so bold.

      • BooBooLaRue says:

Yes thank you. I think my beauty regime works better than hers! Stay out of the sun! No ciggies!

    • Amory says:

I agree on the make-up — she looks great and so much more appealing. I don’t mind the dress, but I’m not a fan of going braless – yes, she’s small, but it looks tacky to me.

      • Kitten Mittens says:

        Amory
I agree about the bra. Even if you’re small enough that you don’t need that support and shaping you should still have something there to avoid the headlights.
Dressing appropriately is a sign of respect.

      • Sassy says:

She could be wearing a sheer bra. And she looks great. Women in the Hamptons with money generally do not wear a lot of makeup – at all. Not done, my dear.

    • Kevin says:

Goop fusses over herself enough. Her skin should look as good as it does. She looks “well”, which is a lot considering how some of the other celebs hinder their aging process. She looks like she dropped half a Lude to calm her high strung, wound a tad to tight personality through the event.

      • HariK says:

Are we still pretending that she doesn’t use botox? Because she 1000% does, at least between her eyes. And yes, I’m speaking from experience.

Ability to raise her eyebrows and wrinkle at the top of the forehead – check. Prominent center forehead vein – check. Lack of 11 lines between her eyes -check. Maybe you have to be a user to recognize the signs!

      • The Wizz says:

I’m a between the eyes Botox user and I love it!

    • Decloo says:

But she totally needs to touch up her part. Her dark roots are pretty prominent.

    • Becky1 says:

I like it! It’s nice to see celebrities without their make-up. I don’t think Goop looks bad at all. She looks like what she is-a thin, fair 40 year old woman who isn’t currently getting Botox or fillers. I’m not a Goop fan and normally find her annoying but I respect that she feels comfortable enough to go to an event looking very natural and low key.

    • Lishka says:

Sorry but the lack of make up makes her look greasy and OLD. There, I said it.

  3. Nev says:

    she does look good.

    • Thinker says:

Agreed. Minimalism suits her looks. She pulls off the casual, no makeup thing very well.

I’m actually curious what makes her skin so dewy, it’s lovely, makes her look like she just got off the beach.

  4. blue marie says:

I was good with her outfit til I saw the nip. still cute but she should have covered that I think. she does look better without the make up.

it annoys me that she’s considered an author.

  5. emmie_a says:

She looks incredible if she’s really wearing zero makeup. Heck, even if she’s wearing some makeup she still looks really good! A little powder wouldn’t kill her… And honestly, how hard is it to wear a bra to a public event??? I’m not a fan of bras but even a bralette is better than nothing.

  6. Jane says:

I came to work dressed like that, I would be sent home to change. But of course this is Goop and she can do “no wrong”. Gag….

    • PrairieGirl says:

I’m with you! You’re at a public charity event where you’re expected to mix and mingle and you don’t wear undergarments or a teeny bit of makeup? Not even face powder and lip gloss? That’s not cute, that’s lazy.

      • Thiajoka says:

I agree. Some powder for the shine and her face is red–mine is like that, too, and a little cover up helps tone it down with some powder. Also, could she just get over the pony tail, please?

    • Annabelle says:

Gwyneth can’t win with some of you people. If she wears makeup to the event, she looks bad and is trying too hard. If she doesn’t wear makeup, she still looks bad and isn’t trying hard enough. Come on.

  7. teehee says:

    Not whatsoever.

  8. BooBooLaRue says:

    And probably no deodorant…

  9. Marjalane says:

” I am soooooo naturally perfect, I need not make an effort for the peon’s”

I think she looks like hell.

    • Cleveland Girl says:

Agreed. I don’t understand these people who think she looks good. Her roots are showing, her skin looks greasy, and she looks a good 10 years older then her stated age.

    • marina says:

Thank you! I don’t even think she looks that good for 40. And I’m sure she does use fillers. And not to be mean, but her daughter is just average looking. She looks just like her dad.

  10. Sixer says:

Like the dress. Like the make-up free thang. Dislike the roots.

  11. It'sJustBlanche says:

I generally think most women don’t really need makeup, but you know what? She looks better with it. She looks cute here, but like she’s going to the grocery store (minus the amazing dress).
Somehow though, it makes her less obnoxious so I’m all for it.

  12. Dingo says:

I so agree on Apple looking like a mix of both parents and Kate Moss.

    • hunter says:

I saw a picture of Apple in the NYPost and I really think she will be MUCH prettier than Gweneth, who I never thought looked that special.

  13. Sullivan says:

She looks pretty and fresh without make-up. It’s obvious when someone isn’t wearing make-up. That’s why it’ was a little galling when Aniston clearly had some make-up on, but announced ( via hair guy) that she was make-up free.

  14. Carolyn says:

Goop at least could have put some BB or CC cream on. And a bra.

Shocked at how different she looks without the usual heavily made up/photoshopped look we’re used to. Same with Aniston. Both look rather homely.

  15. QQ says:

Great for her to not have makeup, Not The venue for it

    Same for the no bra

    Sun damage is a bitch!

  16. bns says:

    Her skin is so leathery.

    • maria says:

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one. I’d say her skin is proof that the sun IS damaging!

      • Barhey says:

I don’t get how her skin is so sun damaged when she said she spends so little time in the sun that it gave her osteopenia.

“I was curious if this [being in the sun] was safe, having been told for years to stay away from its dangerous rays, not to mention a tad bit confused.”

      • Adrien says:

Nope, her skin is glowing, far from damaged. She has lines but they’re not deep enough to be called sundamaged. She’s 40. At that age, everyone without makeup will look oily and tired on photos in natural lighting. I bet in real life her skin is flawless.

    • Kevin says:

      I disagree.

    • Lisa says:

Agreed. That was my first thought: wow, her skin is leathery!

  17. Post-Its says:

I’m going to be catty. While I think she looks just fine without make-up, her skin is nothing to write home about. And considering how much she talks about her diet in relation to her skin, I’m feeling slightly smug about this.

  18. Shelley says:

Love the dress but dammit woman know when to put on a bra…this event was so inappropriate for that.

  19. Charlotte says:

Definitely wearing makeup, just not an in h thick like normal. Probably because she had to put it on herself. I do support a natural look though. Women should absolutely not feel like they have to cake themselves. I never do, and my skin thanks me for it.

    • Bee says:

Yep she’s wearing totally wearing make-up. You can see the white highlight in the corner of her eyes and a touch of bronzer on her cheeks. She might be wearing a sheer cc cream as well.

  20. Maria says:

i notice people with light eyebrows and eyelashes look very different than brunettes without makeup. She isn’t youthful or fresh enough to look good bare faced. a bit of mascara and some color on her lips to give her face some life would work wonders. Bare faced isn’t a great look on middle aged girls. just my opinion.

    • UsedToBeLulu says:

I’m not going to bag on your opinion, just offer my own in contrast to yours: I find that makeup makes me look worse as I’ve gotten older, actually. You have to be SO careful about application because just about everything settles into my fine lines now (almost 49). I’ll never look 20 again, but if I go without makeup, I DO look younger. Circles under eyes and all.

  21. GMarchetti says:

Her healthy diet does not make her look good, in the end, it’s the good and old make up. And lots of Photoshop too!

  22. Jayna says:

it looks like she’s sunburned. And it’s a bitch to try to wear makeup over a sunburn.

  23. blaize says:

    Braless Power!

That’s all I came here to say. 😀

    • saucy says:

thank you! i don’t see the point of criticizing her for not wearing a bra, when she’s small enough not to need one.

  24. Mrs.Darcy says:

I do think she looks decent, but I can’t help but feel everytime she makes a point of wearing no makeup she is holding herself up for scrutiny -“Look at my natural organic only fed beauty”, when, cough, you know, kinda blotchy and shiny, tinted moisturiser would have made her look nicer. But I think she is trying to prove something when she does this at public appearances when everyone around her is probably like “Gawd girl this is the Hamptons, make an effort!” She needs to re-think the yellow hair too, it is no longer her friend.

    • Ll says:

I have cyclic breast pain and often do not wear a bra. I’m not saying this is why GP is braless but people need to grow up a little. For some people not wearing a bra is more comfortable. If she was wearing a bra and we saw the lines someone would criticize her for that as well. I find it interesting that last week people were up in arms defending a woman who was breast feeding in public but we can’t take goop going braless? I know she can be insufferable but I really don’t think we need to bother with her on this point. She has gone braless before and probably will again.

      • Mrs.Darcy says:

I didn’t mention anything about her bra or lack thereof, I actually think the dress looks fine. I agree, I also can’t stand un-comfy bras, I mostly wear Genie bras!

  25. Lexi says:

I think she looks great! It was just a fundraiser at the beach, going without makeup is perfectly acceptable… She looks happy and relaxed! I love it! And what’s so wrong with not wearing a bra? It’s not like she was wearing anything see-through.

    • Ll says:

Sorry this was my first comment on here I did not mean to respond to your comment directly 🙂

  26. Ella says:

I think she looks fantastic and I’m glad Goop is raising bralessness awareness!

  27. Pinky says:

Actually, MHO is that in the Hamptons, the wealthiest of the wealthy go makeup free, just tanned. That’s the marking of a truly upper crust, “classy,” old money girl. Goop is trying to fit in with that sect/set–and she kind of does. Granted, she’s trying to align herself with the 20-somethings by doing so, but she looks just like those girls. On this, she wins (minus the whole bra thing).

    • HappyMom says:

Yes-she definitely with her people here. And her mother is old money-so she does fit in.

    • hunter says:

THIS! You’re exactly right and she DOES fit in (not kind of). This is the same reason why Aerin Lauder (of Estee Lauder cosmetics) doesn’t wear any makeup though I think she looks so bland without it (Aerin Lauder).

    • Nev says:

      WORD.

Hahahaha she is with her peeps. True.

  28. L says:

Once you are over a certain age and/or cup size you need a bra. Period.

  29. Kiddo says:

Braless would be okay with a halter or some other summer sun dress type of thing. But it looks stupid in a fitted white dress with quarterback shoulder pads. Otherwise, her face sans make-up is not objectionable.

  30. Zombie Shortcake says:

I think I see a bra strap on the left side
of her chest in the second pic from last.

  31. snappyfish says:

love the dress, although one should always wear a bra when wearing white. her hair looks cute for once, instead of looking like flat-ironed hay. but to me she looks very unhealthy, and much older than 40. of course, smoking and tanning will add years to your face, and cigarettes also leach calcium out of your bones, which in turn causes osteoporosis, which we all know goop has. detoxing all the time robs your body of nutrients, so I have no doubt her electrolytes are all crazy.

the fact that she holds herself up as a paragon of health and vitality is hilarious to me.

  32. ctkat1 says:

She has said in the past that she doesn’t know how to do her own makeup- I always side eye that, because while I don’t know how to do a full face in preparation for a red carpet and HD cameras, I think every woman knows how to do tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lip gloss.

However, I don’t think she’s wearing anything. And I won’t snark on her for that, because I love when the curtain is lifted and we see these celebs as they really are.

Someone commented on the Jimmy Kimmel wedding photos that all of the celebs in attendance just looked like slightly better-looking regular people when away from an event.

  33. lisa says:

sorry but she really needs some mascara, she looks like a mole without it. her skin looks like a catcher’s mitt and her hair is doing no one any favors.

  34. Jennifer12 says:

I think it’s great that she doesn’t feel she has to appear in full makeup every single time. She needs a bra, though. I know a lot of women who are smaller on top think they don’t always need one, but they do.

    • NYC_girl says:

I am an a cup and I have always worn one. I don’t like them bouncing around or my nips showing. Being that small I need a bra to give some shape to what I’m wearing. Otherwise I look completely flat and business clothing especially looks like hell.

  35. Aras says:

I think Gwyneth tends to go make-up free in the Hamptons. I remember seeing another picture of her last summer in the Hamptons and it was the same thing–care-free hair and a bare face.

Also, considering that the cover of her cook book du jour as well as the pictures inside are of her looking natural and all, it seems fitting that she would be the same way at this event.

  36. Maria says:

    She looks weathered.

  37. Isabel says:

For someone who only does healthy stuff (eyeroll here), she looks haggard.
    She looks about 55.

Charlize Theron is her age and she drinks and smokes a lot, and looks way better.

  38. Chinoiserie says:

I think she looks good otherwise but her fece is very red and she needs a bra.

  39. mslewis says:

I think Gwynnie looks great. I love her dress and she almost never wears a bra so I don’t understand the “outrage” here. Her little breasties don’t need a bra. Wish I could go without one but these DDs won’t allow that. And she looks healthy without makeup. Most of the summer people go without makeup during the day while in the Hamptons.

  40. Thinkaboutit says:

She needed something. People came out to see her, and support her cause. She should have made a little effort. At least wear eyebrows. I think she’s wearing a bra, just has nips that won’t quit. Mine, hers and Aniston’s — I just don’t see the big deal. Shocker, I have breasts and they have nipples!

  41. Gabrielle says:

I love it. GOOP is going against the grain of 40-something actresses who freak out over every wrinkle, the actresses we make fun of here on a daily basis for the botox, the immobile foreheads, the pulled cheeks, the inability to smile. HOORAY FOR GOOP! She is embracing her natural age and showing that a few wrinkles and real skin can be beautiful, especially when you smile.

  42. redd says:

Is it really called “vacationing” when you don’t work to begin with? Just saying…

  43. Quinn Parker says:

She doesn’t look good for her age particularly, especially given the amount of time/money this woman spends on herself.

I don’t care if she chooses not to wear makeup, but she just generally looks unkempt here. She’s not the fresh 20-something girl anymore who looks great right out of the shower, which is fine…but I bet my last organic huckleberry that she THINKS she still is.

  44. MeowuiRose says:

Her skin is so damaged. It also looks really really oily.

  45. Sara says:

She looks fine without makeup but why pretend to be this all natural girl and then bleach your hair into oblivion? I will never understand why women color their hair so much to the point of visual damage. I have highlighted my hair a handful of times in my 35 years and while I love the way it makes me look fresher and younger, I refuse to continuously do it because in the end my hair will ultimately look far worse from damage. Ladies, please consider 15 years down the road when you start coloring your hair on a regular basis.

    • Sloane Wyatt says:

Goop is looking great! If you are happy with yourself and how you look, sans makeup is perfectly fine & beautiful.

I agree with your excellent hair advice. Mine is heavily silver streaked naturally and is only blonde highlighted a couple of times a year. As a result, my long hair is healthy and shiny.

  46. Gabby says:

She looks much older than the average woman her age. Her skin looks bad, so she maght as well stop fretting over skin products and what she eats. She is thin, but not in a good way thin, just scrawny.

  47. Ginger says:

Yep I look like that onweekends…hair in a pony and none or minimal make up. However, I’m four years older. She still looks great at 40. it is refreshing to see her let go of perfection once in a while. she should do that more often…loosen up a bit. I will give any actress of a certain age, even GOOP, props for not messing with their face.

  48. Lisa says:

She looks fine, but I don’t get people who go to events like this without makeup. You’re in the Hamptons!

    • UsedToBeLulu says:

By reading here, I see that that is exactly how the Hampton socialites prefer to be seen – without makeup. Now I can go makeup free and claim (to myself) that I am so very classy. 😛

  49. MissNostalgia says:

    No, definitely, not cute.

  50. Norah says:

She reminds me of Sissy Spacek.

  51. Anon33 says:

Er…yeah…not seeing it. She skipped over “minimal dressed down fresh faced” and tumbled right into “sloppy.” Her hair looks really dry and like it hasn’t been washed, the roots are atrocious, and her face is incredibly oily, not dewy. The dress also completely clashes with the lack of makeup and hair. It isn’t a cute breezy bohemian sundress-it’s quite structured and required more of an effort. This is a total fail IMO.

  52. F5 says:

    She looks like shyt.
.. and why is she so friggin sweaty?
    >_<

  53. greta says:

She can get away with the minimalist look I think. In all honesty, despite the fact that this was a charity (“dress up”) event, recently I saw another celeb with the opposite approach — very overdone look in a casual setting.

Personally, I think it’s worse to see someone at the beach with their face plastered in layers of make up and bright red lipstick. Ugh.. Talk about bad taste.

  54. lucy2 says:

It’s interesting to see celebs without makeup. I don’t think she looks particular great (she’s one who greatly benefits from photoshopping) but at the beach, who cares.

  55. Cat O says:

I don’t see the issue with not wearing a bra, or that you can see her nipples. We all have them, it’s basic human anatomy. I don’t get the offence over them. I go braless all the time, and I have sheer bras that you can see my nipples through. I can’t control them, they do their own thing. I don’t see that I should be covering them in pasties and padding just so no one is offended by something everyone has.

And she looks good without make up. I have the same issue with my eyelashes and eyebrows but I get them tinted for going on holiday, so that they don’t disappear entirely in the sun!

    • Maple Goodness says:

I could not agree more about the bra and breasts part. Nipples are completely natural and normal. I don’t understand why so much people find them so terrible and offensive if they are seen. I think they are fine just the way they are.

    • sputnik says:

i don’t understand why a bunch of modern women are complaining about another woman not wearing a bra, like they’re 1950s gentlemen. gwyneth looks cute and natural.

  56. vava says:

Her face looks greasy and her boobs are droopy. I guess if that’s what she and others think is a great look, then more power to them. I think she looks pretty horrible in those photos.

    • Ms.Martin says:

Couldn’t have said it better vava … I live in Sag Harbor … The ” un Hampton ” lol and let me tell you …some of these so called beautiful look fairly horrible without all that GOOP on their faces …and as for all her ” I’m better than you attitude” … It’s clear that no ammount of $ buys class … Wear a bra ….. And cover up the roots ..uuugggh

  57. cw says:

    One word….SUNSCREEN

  58. Sulky says:

There is nothing cute about this narcissist. Nothing.

    • MegG says:

I do like her dress. But why do the elite from The Hamptons don’t wear makeup? Is there a reason?

      • Liberty says:

Just judging from house parties I’ve been to, they do as they did back in their schoolgirl days. To me they tend to look very weathered and haggard for some events, but they seem totally pleased and confident. I’ve noticed this in the Hamptons and in Nantucket, also out in Napa and St Helena. A lifelong belief in their boarding school barefaced summer beauty.

  59. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

    Yeah, wow, where to begin?
Ok, first of all, her skin looks like she just face planted in a bowl of olive oil. Yuck. And, also, your skin is red. Im shocked, actually, at how old she looks. I expected better from all her horn blowing. Im disappointed, but, what ever..this is GOOP so its all about “the spin” with her.
Secondly. the hair. You have all the money in the world and it looks fried to Shzz and not at all as it should. I know someone AMAZING in Manhattan Darling…give me a call….he can get you that “Bergdorf Blonde” look. Right now your rockin a “deep friend and it died” look.
And, wear a bra. Your over 18. You need to wear a bra, even if your small. Sorry.
Girls in their late teens can get away with no make up, no bra, the sun bleaches my hair and Im all sun bleached and wind blown look. Shes well over forty, fried and oily. Its not charming. She looks like a hot mess.
I wear minimilist make up every day and I look “naturally” awesome….translucent conceilor, nude lipstick, champange eyeshadow, thick upper lid black line, lots of mascara and rosy blush. Its NOT slathered on at all. if she cared enough she could have done the same. No one would think shes wearing tons of make up, it would have acentuated her natural assets. She simply cant manage to take care of herself. Shes said so herself. G*d forbid she should learn how to apply make up herself! Better to look like a real mess…..she has zero poise.

  60. HK9 says:

Some “no concealer” concealer from Dr. Perricone and a pair of silicone “daisys or hearts” would have made her look more polished. Otherwise I think she looks great.

  61. Snowpea says:

Why do Americans get so hung up on brainlessness? I really dont see the big deal.

Here in Australia it’s very common. Nobody gives a hoot.

    *confused*

    • sputnik says:

yeah, i live in the south of europe and women go bra-less all the time. i don’t understand these comments. it’s like feminism never happened. nipples are just, like, so disgusting.

  62. skeptical says:

    she’s how old?
My dear Mom is 63 and has better skin. I think Goop’s “healthy lifestyle” maybe isn’t so healthy.

  63. diva says:

    She is not attractive

  64. Trashaddict says:

    Yawn. Crashing bore.

  65. metallicwow says:

Some bright lipstick would have done wonders.

  66. Kate says:

I think she looks nice and totally appropriate.

Yes she has lines but her skin has a healthy glow. These are not the best pictures – if you look at Lainey’s she mostly looks better.

She’s wearing lipstick but I can’t see any other makeup.

  67. xxzeon says:

Personally I cannot stand the “GOOPSTER” and any/everything she represents! However, I do think she looks good braless and sans makeup. Not sexy, mind you….just kinda nice. So, GOOPY, take my thoughts as a “one-off.” ‘Cuz other than that????? You’re an arrogant pig!

  68. Deedee says:

    Hot mess.

  69. Helvetica says:
