Beyonce acts the diva at inauguration

krtphotoslive339272-us-news
Beyonce and Jay-Z were told they would need to walk to meet their chauffeured car due to streets being shut down in DC last night for security reason. Beyonce refused to walk four blocks and convinced the Secret Service to make an exception to let her car through just to pick her up.

The Secret Service had a bigger job than protecting the Obama family last night.

After Jay-Z finished rehearsal for his pre-inaugural concert, he and wife Beyoncé found out police had shut down streets around the Warner Theater. Cops told the star couple they’d have to walk four blocks to meet their driver.

“Beyoncé wouldn’t walk in high heels in the cold,” says our spy. “The cops wouldn’t budge, but the Secret Service agreed to let the driver pick Jay and Beyoncé up, bring them to their hotel so they could change, and get them back to the theater.”

How cold was it? Before he went on, Jay-Z was supposed to leave his hand prints in a block of cement destined for the theater’s star-studded sidewalk. But the cement froze.

New York Daily News

Sure, it was really cold. Cold enough so Beyoncé should have been equipped with appropriate clothing to walk in the open air. As far as the high heels go, if you can dance in them, you can walk in them.

You could maybe understand Beyonce’s inability to walk if people had been around or she had a schedule to keep to and didn’t want to be delayed by autograph hunters, but the reports describe the streets as being ‘shut down’ so I guess that wasn’t likely.

Beyonce sang at an inauguration ball tonight, where she performed the Etta James classic ‘At Last’ for President Obama and First Lady Michelle. Beyoncé recently played Etta in biopic film Cadillac Records, and performed the song live at the Fashion Rocks event, and I have to say that she absolutely nailed it. She might be a diva who flouts security measures, but she does have the pipes to back it up.

Beyonce is shown performing at the inauguration concert on 1/18/09. She is also shown with Jay-Z at the inauguration yesterday. Credit: Newscom

What the fuck is Jay-Z wearing? I understand it’s cold out but he looks like an 80 year old school bus driver.

  2. Granger says:

It sounds diva-ish, but I can’t say I *really* blame her. Walking any distance in heels sucks. Sure, she could have brought boots with her, but this is someone who’s used to being chauffeured everywhere, and she obviously wasn’t expecting a change to the usual routine.

It is funny, though, how the rich and famous seem to lose all ability to walk, drive, shop or carry luggage without assistance. I’ve lugged a 35-pound kid, a carry-on, and a 60-pound suitcase from one end of an airport to the other in my high-heeled boots. Beyonce wouldn’t last five minutes in that situation!

  3. barneslr says:

What a moron. I wish they hadn’t caved and made her walk. Why should she receive special treatment?

And no–she does not “have the pipes to back it up” when it comes to Etta James. Etta is a genuine talent. Beyonce is just another so-so singer that could never come close to holding a candle to Etta.

  4. vale says:

Didn’t like her singing. Sorry. She was definitely n.2 to Jennifer Hudson, but if you ask me there were much better people to sing such a multi-dimensional song. She was one-toned where it matter and just belted to make her point.
And hello, diva? Just walk, we all walk in heels, get over it.

  5. gg says:

rocking jacket she’s got on! But the (p?)leather pants are inappropriate to the event.

  6. Aspen says:

    Skin tight leather pants…really?

What the hell has happened in this country?

Honey, you ain’t gonna pole dance. You at the inauguration of the President of the United States, Girl.

    Pfft.

    Idiot.

  7. goons says:

oh please.. leave the leather pants, aint nothing wrong with them.. they are other singers who looked as scruffy as hell in that concert.. as for asking the security.. i would do the same.. aint nothing divarish about that..its not like she had a fit or something so stop making it out to be more than it is..and yeah, she did nail the perfomance and will be in the history books not jhud so deal with it…

  8. Jill says:

Didn’t she realize the Secret Service had better things to do than worry about her?

  9. CC says:

its 4 blocks. the average person walks more than that every day in heels (manhattan, where they live). When i lived in NYC I walked 12 blocks to my subway every morning in heels, in the snow, and then 6 blocks to my office. what a F***ing Diva. I bet Diddy walked.

  10. dudewtf says:

CC: how awesome was it living in NYC? Im sooo jealous! <—sorry off subject!

  11. geebz says:

BS…I grow weary of her over-hyped self importance. I agree that if she can dance in heals, she can walk in heals for four friggin’ blocks. Considering the historic implications of the day;one of the youngest presidents, first black, first time young children in white house since Carters…the list goes on. What a way to chip in you lazy, entitled, good for nothing but shaking your duff cow!

Have a moment be about more than you…ok?

  12. geebz says:

    Oh and the leather pants–tacky!

    I’m just saying.

  13. CC says:

one more thing. does anyone else notice that her hair seemed to change colors from monday to tuesday????

  14. J-Lin says:

I’m sorry, but “At Last” is one of those untouchable songs and listening to her sing it made me cringe. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a great entertainer and a sucky singer. With all that money, she has yet to invest in acting or signing lessons. What a shame.

  15. holly says:

talk about being entitled and rude.. i feel sorry for the poor person who sat behind jay-z at the inauguration.

  16. Baholicious says:

Those pants make her thighs look like a couple of black puddings. Christmas breakfast may never be the same for me again…

  17. photo jojo says:

    I am LMAO @ Fiona!!

  18. Maritza says:

I don’t like the way she dresses, she usually looks tacky or matronly. And this time those leather pants in such a formal event look tacky.

  19. mel says:

Ok Beyonce you need a reality check cuz everyday people walk four blocks when it’s below zero. I’m glad the cops didnt give into her.

  20. guest says:

sooo spoiled. tho she did seem to be genuinely honored during the first dance.

  21. pebbles says:

hate this diva and her dude

  22. jm says:

Sorry. Good for her for clearly working hard but . . .she is NOT a good singer!! She cannot hold one single note w/o her voice trembling all over the place. Hold a damn note and then we’ll talk!

  23. DEe says:

She did a great job on the song, but I would feel slighted if I were Etta James because she coined the song and to have this young thang, talented and all, sing HER song on such a historic occassion despite having played her in the movie would have not sat well with me. But if Ms. James was fine with it, oh well. Yeah….shit can go to our head real quick and money and fame must easily make these people lapse outa humbleness here and there. Her Jay Z husband did a crappy job; he should rapped something with more substance. How about telling the youth to disregard the ease of getting weapons and settle disagreements with words or fists if necessary. How about impressing upon them the need to disregard the easily accessible drugs and continue on with their education to make mom/dad/and even the Obama’s proud. Use this occassion to help wake our youth up from the distractions of the stupid ass music and booty shaking. Damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Ash says:

    I think she’s a great singer…. I feel so alone in this, haha, darn…

  25. Lauren says:

Leather pants to an inagaural event? Tacky.

Plus, the police and secret service have more important things to do than make sure your tootsies don’t get cold sweetie. We don’t need another Mariah Carey.

  26. Sauronsarmy says:

God, I can not stand Beyonce. She ruined “At Last” just like she ruined “Over The Rainbow”. Somebody please sit her down in the bermuda triangle.

  27. rottenkitty says:

Uhm, why didn’t they get Etta James to sing “At Last?” She’s still performing.

  28. vdantev says:

Speaking of banality, why Beyonce? How about Diana Ross? Or Aretha Franklin? Someone with some damn pipes.

  29. NotBlonde says:

Listening to Beyonce sing “At Last” just shows how great of a performer she is but a great singer she is not. She has a passable voice that is aesthetically pleasing to the ear but she does not have the same vocal talent as Etta James, not by a thousand miles.

I thought the pants were fine; she’s a performer and it’s a stage costume.

CC- she wears wigs. To all confused folks out there- quite a few black female entertainers wear wigs so that they don’t mess up their real hair doing chemical processes and pressing it straight or curly all the time. This is why their hair looks completely different day to day. Examples: Beyonce Knowles, Sherri Shepard, Oprah, Tyra Banks.

  30. JustV says:

I think the Obama team chose some of the performers, including Beyonce, to pay tribute to many of the young people who came out to vote (for the first time) and otherwise supported the campaign. Right now, there aren’t too many other ‘young’ chart topping females beside Beyonce who don’t have a bad rep for behavior/drugs/whatever.
NotBlonde: Beyonce and other black female entertainers often depend heavily on weaves/hair extensions to get the right (often white) look. This includes Tyra and B. While others depend on wigs, such as Whitney Houston.

  31. kate says:

    beyonce is no etta james…no.

  32. NotBlonde says:

Beyonce regularly wears lace-front wigs which give the illusion of “white” looking hair without a weave. Tyra actually doesn’t have a weave right now. I saw her real hair on her show a couple of episodes ago and it’s very short and she says she wears wigs.

It’s not like, a bad thing. If I could afford the great wigs they have (certainly good enough to make some people actually believe that is their real hair) I would wear them and not have to do my hair every day.

  33. Rhianna says:

Beyonce, I’m ashamed you came from Texas. Surely you mama taught you better than to wear leather pants to a Presidential inaugural celebration.

Why can your lazy butt not bring a pair of sensible shoes? It isn’t like you weren’t told DC was cold! The Secret Service is not your private bodyguard and pamper brigade. Someone seriously needs to whop that ego right out you.

  34. Aquarius says:

Sheesh. I went to one of the “unofficial” balls–benefiting DCPS–and when we got out at midnight, I froze while waiting 10 minutes for the car, but those were the breaks. Then we watched a bunch of women also in heels and thin dresses walking away from the Convention Center. If they did it, Beyonce could have, too. It WAS bitter bitter cold, yes, but she would have been in great company.
Welcome to Washington; it’s cold here in January.

I’m also surprised that the Secret Service bowed to pressure. They (understandably) don’t seem to be forgiving most of the time. If you even stick a pinky toe onto Penn. Ave. because the sidewalk in front of that part of the White House is ridiculously narrow and filled with tourists trying to get the perfect shot through the fence, the SS wastes NO time yelling for you to get off the street.

Am also glad to know that lots of people have butchered “Over the Rainbow.” The band at the ball was great, but when the woman launched into the song, I cringed. She had a beautiful voice but was being way too theatrical with it. Ugh. I kept thinking that Judy Garland was likely rolling in her grave.

  35. Ana says:

A little off topic, but I think she was the person in the blind item who was actually a registered republican.
I wonder if she voted for Obama.

  36. Jane says:

She DOES have pipes Dante. You may not like her personally, but you can’t say she doesn’t know how to sing.

  37. It’s already been said – but leather pants? Bitch, please!

This is the inauguration of our nation’s first African American President, not a cameo appearance in your husband’s music video.

  38. Persistent Cat says:

Wow, people really hate Beyonce and are also kind of gullible. How does anyone even know this is true?

She’s from Texas, it was cold and she was wearing heels. Hell, I’m Canadian and even if I were wearing comfortable boots, if I thought I had a remote chance of convincing someone to come pick me up, I’d try it.

And I thought her outfit was amesome. That pants were not inappropriate, she looked fantastic and the jacket covered her ass. And she got to kiss Bruce Springsteen.

Someone suggested she should have brought a change of shoes. You’re kidding right? Could you imagine her schlepping her boot bag the way we do, then sitting down and trying to discreetly put a sock on without anyone noticing?

And like Goons said, some others were just awful. Did you see Garth Brooks? He was wearing a Wrangler jean jacket. Nice. And John Cougar’s face is all ruined from plastic surgery.

A lot of the men had beautiful winter coats (i.e., Usher and Josh Groban).

I would have killed for Shakira’s shoes.

Oh, and Rachel Walker, don’t post in all caps. As well, Mariah Carey wasn’t there because she totally would’ve dressed inappropriatetly, Whitney wouldn’t because she has that whole crack history and Celine is Canadian.

  39. lindsay says:

Hmm I don’t think she is a bad singer. I used to get down to Destiny! LoL!

A bit off topic but I really can’t imagine having to be outside when it is snowing! Australian winters are cold enough, HOW DO YOU PPL IN THE NORTH SURVIVE?? I just don’t understand how your limbs don’t freeze off!? Like, seriously!

  40. Kerry says:

Beyonce is not a good singer. She is like Britney. She’s an entertainer. There were times when she was singing “At Last” that I absolutely cringed. Especially during the low notes that she can’t carry. I could only watch so much, it was that bad. She ruined a perfectly lovely song. Nails on a blackboard.

  41. vdantev says:

She DOES have pipes Dante. You may not like her personally, but you can’t say she doesn’t know how to sing.

Then she needs to move past the Top 40 kid’s music and sing something with some artistic nerve, some fire in the heart. That ‘single women’ song might pay the bills, but it’s like junk food, it’ll leave you empty in the end. She’s a good dancer though.

  42. daisy424 says:

I seem to remember seeing Michelle Obama walking the parade route in heels. If the First Lady can walk in the cold, so can HRH Beyonce.

@Persistent Cat;I’m sure she could have had one her many ‘underlings’ carry a change of shoes for her. If not, she should have chosen her shoes more wisely.

  43. tiffa says:

Wow, America needs to wake up. I am so sicj and tire of Beyonce, she is so overated. She’s a good singer and cut however, there are several individsuals (female artist) that are much talented than her. She pretty much stalked Obama’s people to be apart of history. She was very vocal about wanting to participate. No one extended an invite first, she repeatedly spoke about wanting to sing. She’s very selfish, spoiled and an opportunist. Deep down its another notch under her belt or must I say to add to her Resume. She’s fake and cannot act at all and to add has poor communication skills. Out of all people they had to get her, she is not an example to the youth. Further more she was quite about the election, her husband, mary j & other artist was hosting concerts in the primaries. Beyonce was recording what 100+ songs and permoting not only her albumn but her sisters too. She then began to accompany Jay and his team, Diddy, MJB, etc. to concerts towards the end of the primaries. She was not informed at all about the election until she saw an opportunity, wanted to know what the hype was about saw all the other celebs involved for a great cause the she jumps on board??? I’m so tired of her fakeness. I pray she gets pregnant soon. But we know that will not happen because reports state she’s more focus than ever and she said out of her mouth on an interview she will have plenty of time to have children, that she is still young. What?? The Girl will loose her hubby with that selfish attitude, he’s much older than her and has express having children time & time again. She has no clue about marriage, its about compromise and a woman being submisive to a good husband. If she is not preg in 5-years the forget it. I believe Jay fell for trickery with her anyway, she doesn’t appear to be mature or possess intellect. He’s what 39, in 5 years he will be in his mid-40’s with no kids?? She may love him but I don’t think she’s in love with him. Marriage is having a family also what’s her excuse, she’s rich, talented, established, etc. What more could one want?? Just greed, plain old greed.

  44. tiffa says:

Also i do believe Beyonce is with Jay for his connects as well, I’m telling you America… Watch if she is not preg in 5-years their marriage will soon be over. She’s much younger than Jay Z. The she forces her way onto the inaguration events, etc, upset about walking?? So immature, Dam she had to convince the secret service, Jay couldn’t do that? He prob felt embarrassed by her attitude. She needs to wake up, Now she wants to take all the credit and be apart on the election events like she’s been on board from day ONE. Such a Fake. And who says their a Legend? I thought that title was given to people, not one walking around claiming it like its a Job description??? Also you can tell she prob likes Obama and if had the opportunity she would take advantage of a situation if you get my drift. Money, Power, people need to wake up. Wake up…

  45. Mihai says:

    I think she’s a good singer, but not really a diva… 🙂

  46. stennii says:

    i cant

  47. stennii says:

Beyonce is a good singer, but an actor she is not. All of the movie characters she has portrayed were awful. She has no since of understanding when it comes to a variety of emotions. Will Smith Son, does way better job than her and will get an Oscar before her. Yeah you heard it here first.

People need to be more honest with Bey, she is soooo overated. Rhianna is better than her… Bey has great marketing strategies including being married to Jay Z. He actually upgraded her. Wonder when she will give that black man what he’s been asking for a Family of his own. Well Not, she’s just stringing him along. He may get tired of waiting. I’m sure several of their firends have children and he’s waiting on when she’s ready. Dam they’ve been dating what for about six years now and they are married now, rich & famous. Achieved several things? With the selfishness she’s not admitting to, she may end up loosing her husband. I don’t want that to happen, but marriage is having a family of your own and sacraficing for the one you truly love, raising children and helping those who are less fortunate. I do wish them well, but from her comments lately and the must need for her to always remain in the spotlight, that is not a good sign that their marriage will remain good with this type of behavior. Once bad habits are set its hard to break and causes strife in one’s marriage.

  48. nina says:

Equating marriage with children is very backwards. It is directly linked with the oppression of women’s rights. Family and children is not synonymous. This misconception lingers from the no-too-distant times when all a woman could do was breed.

  49. Songbird says:

Whether she has the pipes to back it up or not…no one should act like that, especially on a day that was not about her at all!…. if you don’t wanna walk in the heels, then take the d@mn heels off!…ugh! i can’t stand ppl like that!

  50. ChristinaX says:

I’m not surprised that Beyonce is like this. She was the center of attention in Destiny’s Child, too. Usually the members in bands who get the most attention are self-absorbed. It’s not a coincidence.

But…this annoys me a little bit. Why do people think that if you have talent that it’s okay to act like a complete ass? I’m referring to some of you saying that she shouldn’t act out because she doesn’t have the voice to pull it off.

That’s BS. Not all the talent in the world gives you a right to act like a douche.

  51. smooth chocolate says:

I’m so glad that people are finally starting to see bee for who she really is! Granted she is a performer but not a great singer!if u ever heard her give an interview you know that education was never a top priorty. My 4 year. Old son communicates better than her. I love obama but I feel like someone really dropped the ball by inviting her to perform. She is not a legend and I strongly believe she did not deserve to be there. I am so waiting for the day for someone to set this chick straight. I mean who is the broad really!

  52. WALELA says:

I see that MAMA TINA had fun with the bedazzle gun!!!!!

  53. shanice says:

Michelle OBAMA walked a whole bunch of blocks in heals in the cold.
And beyonce is not going down in the history books, so the stan who said that. is obviously jelous cause everyone knows jhud is the obama first choice and then Bey begged the entertainment commite after jhud confirmed she aint doing it. Bey sang someone else song, and plus everyone knows she sang for BUSH!

  54. Autumm Leaves says:

    well said Shanice

  55. SpitDatTruth says:

Welp, she should have brought a change of shoes if she was going to complain later. How you sound? Like it would have been “beneath her” or “ghetto” to bring extra shoes. Hell I might would have admired her for keeping it real instead of a whinny bitch if she had of done so. And who’s to say this didn’t happen? Its funny how whenever there’s issues in the news about the goddess “Beyonce”, it has to be a rumor and not true, like people really know her on a personal basis and she can’t do no wrong. However when others like Keyshia Cole, Mya, Ciara, or Rihanna are accused of some shit, its automatically believed. Fuck that. Beyonce ain’t no different or better than anybody else, and I think people who express that shouldn’t be labeled as haters. A hater is someone who hates on another for no reason and no matter what that person does. Nobody is “hating” on Beyonce for acting the way she did. We’re simply stating our opinions on it and if you Beyonce worshipers can’t handle it, maybe you shouldn’t click on links like this. This isn’t a fantasy world. Not everybody adores Beyonce in the same way you do. And I’m sure you talk yo shit on artists you don’t ass-kiss to.

  56. Anyone can me search this article. It’s title is PGA TOUR Minus

  57. Oh my goodness! Impressive article dude! Many thanks, However I am experiencing difficulties with your RSS. I don’t understand why I cannot join it. Is there anyone else getting the same RSS problems? Anyone that knows the solution will you kindly respond? Thanx!!
