The American Music Awards aired last night on ABC. You can see the list of winners here and Global Grind has a great compilation of the performance videos. We’ll be doing the fashion in this post, and will have more coming up for you shortly.
First off we have a slimmed down Christina Aguilera, looking like she always does, in a white clingy Maria Lucia Hohan gown with side cutouts. I appreciate that she’s somewhat demure, for her, and that she’s going for glamour over showing too much skin. That’s somewhat relative with XTina, I mean we can see her ribcage and halfway up her thigh on the side, but this is a real improvement. I’d love to see her do a punky look, but this is gorgeous and classy.
Check out her jewelry, it’s fabulous. Red Carpet Fashion Awards reports that Christina is wearing “Lorraine Schwartz cocktail rings and pendant earrings,” with Christian Louboutin heels. Her clutch is Jimmy Choo.
I’m putting Alicia Silverstone right after XTina because she’s showing the kind of edgy look I wish Christina would try out. Just seeing these thumbnails, I never would have guessed that was Alicia Silverstone! She’s in a black Nicole Miller dress with gold overlay in a contemporary pattern. I love her hair and makeup. One minor complaint: she could have toned it down with the bangle bracelets.
In contrast to the previous two ladies we have Heidi Klum in Marchesa. Of course this goofy, 80s lingerie looking dress with fringe at the bottom is Marchesa, and of course Heidi Klum is wearing it with pride. This is what she does. She is either trolling us with her fashion or she genuinely thinks this looks good. I never quite know with Heidi.
Ciara is in a J. Mendel dress with intricate embroidery. Some of the panels are actually see-through, but you have to look hard to see it. I think this dress is killer. It fits her like a glove and I love the angular, kind of art deco design. This is how you do see through.
Jordin Sparks did the Jolie in an empire waist Jovani Couture gown featuring a leather bodice studded in gold spikes. I might have liked this dress with about a third of the studs, but it looks too busy up top and it doesn’t quite go with the flowing skirt. Jordin’s makeup looks off somehow, but maybe the dress is influencing my opinion.
Naya Rivera looked like Vampira, Mistress of the Dark, in this ridiculous Michael Kors fishtail dress. Her implants were on display and she posed very hard.
Finally, I’m not fond of Giuliana Rancic’s dress and I can’t figure out why. (I don’t have a designer ID for it yet.) Maybe it’s that the black straps around the top are too wide and distracting and don’t seem to go with the lace details. It could be the bizarre metallic skirt coupled with the scallop lace overlay. It’s like this dress is a bunch of separate parts that don’t go together. She got the spirit of the AMAs right, I’ll give her that.

Yikes, what a parade of horrible dresses. Christina Aguilera’s looks super cheap (I think it’s the fabric, and the fact that it looks badly finished), Alicia Silverstone’s isn’t super awful but it looks too big, don’t even get me started on Heidi Klum…sigh. So much bad fashion and it’s not even 9 AM yet.
Completely agree. Ugly dresses, too much hoochie, too much jewelry. Yuck.
I like 4 of these dresses. Modesty is optional.
Well, I guess that’s what makes fashion interesting – everyone sees something different. I certainly don’t expect women on the red carpet to be modest or dress like nuns, but the see through dress is too much for me. I don’t want to know you’re not wearing panties, thank you anyway.
Christina’s dress looks like a home ec project.

Christina looks nice, but I think my favorite is Silverstone. I like Ciara’s dress, only a few folks could pull it off I think. The rest are kind of meh.. Why is Heidi there?

I still think she’s pregnant. The dress is just doing a lot to pull your eye away from the world’s smallest bump. She’s so lanky and fit that she’s just not going to show much for awhile.

I will have to disagree, xtina looks like a plastic doll, the white doesn’t suit her peroxide hair or skin tone. Xtina always has the worst style, she should tone down the hair bleaching and clown make up. Nayas face looks good shame about the dress.
I’m beginning to wonder if she belongs to the Ktrash Klan? She dresses like a hooker. I rarely ever see her look classy. That being said, I loved her performance last nite.
A person has the right to wear whatever they want, and it doesn’t make that person trash. Everyone has their own ‘style’, even if it’s not very god.
Christina WHY WHY. What’s with the heavy make-up is she grabbing the brush from her make-up artists and adding more after they’re done.
Based on the thumbnail pic, my first thought was “Courtney Stodden is looking good this morning.”

Ciara looks good – I can never seem to be too impressed with anything she wears, can’t figure out why.

Re: Rancic – Ugh…..look at her bones. And this woman is on the horrid Joan Rivers Fashion Police show! How she can look in a mirror and see good looking and healthy I will never understand. Xtina just always wears so much makeup it distracts me. I always wonder what she really looks like.
Yeah an ED will do that to you. She probably isn’t even satisfied with her weight now. That hair style isn’t doing her any favors either.
At what point does skinny become scary? Rancid (typo but I’m leaving it) looks like the heaviest part of her are her teeth. The mental issues are really showing up her physical body.
Christina definitely looks cheap… but that’s her style. I put her and Mariah in the same category when it comes to fashion. With that said, she actually looks good (for her). Also, I really enjoyed her performance last night! We all know her voice is POWERFUL, so I think it took a lot of control. It was nice seeing a different side of her.
In the same way I’d never expect snooki or jwoww to walk the carpet in something goop or lea Michelle would wear, I don’t expect Christina Aguilera to either. She has a skanky style, and I mean that in kind of a good way, and we should just let her be her nasty self (in the Janet way). I do wish she’d get that makeup under control though.
Oh Christina looks really good! I love that she doesn’t do clown make-up anymore (finger crossed) and is somewhat more ‘sober’. Still, she should pose naturally and don’t try so hard, also close her mouth, it’s not sexy just odd!

It seems whatever xtina does she always looks cheap. I put it down to her make up and hair. No matter what dress she wears, her make up and hair make it look cheap. It’s my pet peeve with her, that & her low bad breast implants.

Well, it was the AMAs. Just predetermined awards voted on by fans. . So sexy would be the theme. It’s not like its the Grammys or the Oscars.
Something is off with all of the dresses in the pictorial. But if I had to pick worst dressed in the line-up, it would be Heidi and Rancid, and Christina would be best dressed out of that lot.
The black straps on Rancic’s dress look like a harness that she has to use to keep her dress up because she’s too skinny for it to stay on.
Ciara is really beautiful. I never noticed how gorgeous she is before.
Even though she wasn’t posted here, can be talk about Daisy Fuentes and how she never ages?? She looks about fifteen years younger than she is.

Ciara looks gorgeous. She’s beautiful plus she’s been nailing it lately with fresh selections. I need her dress to be a tad bit shorter for shoe clearance. I used to not care for her style…now she’s becoming one to watch. I do beleive she’s preggars just not showing.
I’m loving Alicia’s outfit. She looks perfect to a t.
Christina looks pretty. Her hair, make-up, outfit, and skin (she’s not doing the orangey tan thing) definitely look better than they did at last year’s AMA’s. But she could have done something more interesting. Her style is kind of boring now and I’m tired of her hair color.
I actually love the dresses that Ciara, Naya Rivera, and Heidi Klum are wearing.
