Elsa Pataky stood in for Natalie Portman during ‘Thor 2’ kissing scene reshoot

I think Elsa Pataky’s second pregnancy is evidence that she’s completely happy with being “Chris Hemsworth’s wife.” I don’t mean that as shade at all – Chris is an increasingly in-demand actor, a man on the verge of becoming flat-out A-list, which is something very few actors in his age group have managed. There were two ways Elsa could have played her marriage to Chris – she could have parlayed the marriage into her own separate and lesser career, always striving and hustling and making the Hollywood game the most important thing… or she could accept that Chris was always going to be “the star” of the marriage, and she should position herself as his nurturing wife rather than attempting to be a star in her own right. I think Elsa has made her peace with it. She’s never going to be “glamorous movie star Elsa Pataky.” She’s going to be “Chris Hemsworth’s glowing wife, Elsa.”

That being said, I do think Elsa still has the itch. She subdued all of her natural camera-hungry instincts during the Thor 2 promotions (where was she?! I still miss her), but as Natalie Portman recently admitted, Elsa managed to wrangle her way into Thor 2! They probably had to carry her off the set when the scene was done.

If it looked like Chris Hemsworth wasn’t just acting during his passionate kiss at the end of the credits on “Thor: The Dark World” – it’s because he wasn’t.

Co-star Natalie Portman revealed to the Daily News that due to a scheduling conflict she couldn’t reprise her role as Thor’s mortal girlfriend in time to film the scene. So a special stunt double filled in – Hemsworth’s real-life wife, “Fast & Furious 6” actress Elsa Pataky.

“It was for reshoots (after the film was finished) and he was working in Hong Kong and I couldn’t get there because I was working on my own film,” Portman told the News.
“And so they put his wife in my wig and costume, that’s why it was so passionate.”

The Spanish-born Pataky, who has been married to Hemsworth since 2010 and is now pregnant with their second child, had been traveling with her demi-God and their daughter India at the time anyway. With the assistance of a few trick camera angles, moviegoers were none the wiser.

“It was such a perfect solution, wasn’t it,” said Portman.

See, this should show you my Dragonfly geekiness – my first thought upon reading this was, “Huh, that’s weird that they would need to do reshoots with Natalie whatsoever, I thought the reshoots were just to add MORE HIDDLESTON.” Which is true, the bulk of the reshoots were to rework The Hiddles and to add more Hiddles because the film should have been called Thor 2: The Dancing, Singing, Always Present Loki. But I guess someone was like, “Eh, let’s reshoot the epic kiss too. Should we throw a wig on Hiddles? Oh, is Elsa here? Yeah, she can do it. Oh, she brought her own wig and makeup trailer? She already had a costume made? Well, that’s strange.”

And ruined the movie for me… >.<

ETA 1 – Supposedly (according to Chris) Elsa was working on a project in Hawaii during the Thor2 promo tour.

ETA 2 – If she could have, she would have parlayed the marriage into more opportunities for herself. Come on, the only reason she got the infamous autographed WH cover and especially the Fast Furious 7 gig was bc of Chris's name. You don't see RDJ's or Tom Hank's wife doing that. That's the opposite of 'being content as wife and mother' – it's just her best play.

Pish! She was cast in F&F5 and Snakes on a Plane (released way before Star Trek & A Perfect Getaway) on her own merit!

If anything, HE’s piggybacking off HER fame and acting chops – hell, I’d like to see Meryl Streep put on a performance able to persuade Adrian Brody she loved him enough to pose in a bathtub in Hello magazine…

      • Lindy79 says:

Don’t forget the African tour when the kids couldn’t stop staring at her ethereal beauty

        Jesus she ruined that man…

“She already had a costume made? Well, that’s strange.”

That was actually Tom’s. However, Remora lured him into her trailer to look at her most recent CHemboy photos, locked him in, and stole it.

We still don’t know who wept more once her cunning ruse was discovered: Tom or Chris.

  3. Fangirl says:

Thor !!!! Enough said …. love Chris Hemsworth !!! * sigh* Lucky Elsa !

  4. blue marie says:

BOOOO, why did you cover this? I won’t be able to look at the movie the same way, I shouldn’t find it gross but I do anyway.

    • V4Real says:

Too me that kiss didn’t look that passionate, it was like 3 seconds. I much prefer a Hiddles and Chemsworth passionate kiss. The chemistry just oozes between those two.

I was watching Snakes On A Plane last night, I almost forgot Patacky was in that movie.

BTW it wouldn’t shock me if Elsa had asked Portman to reveal that information to the public. She wants people to know it was her but she looks less famewhorish if she wasn’t the one who revealed it.

      • blue marie says:

You are so right lady, the Hiddles/Chemsworth kiss would be worth it. You know what’s funny (and I didn’t even recall this until just a bit ago) but I remember telling my mom that the kiss seemed a bit awkward. Of course my mom’s response was: Awkward or not, he could kiss me all day.. (ha, my mom is in lust with him)

  5. Liv says:

Thanks, Thor 2 is now ruined for me. I will never be able to unsee it.

  6. Dani2 says:

LOL she WOULD have a costume at the ready, she’s hilarious

  7. Serena says:

Looool! I too would have liked Tom to do the reshoots instead of elsa (a girl can only dream). and anyway I think Thor without Loki is utterlessly boring! btw elsa kind of scare me, lol.

  8. heidi says:

Perfect!! And why not?! Love that Natalie gave the reason for the passion and her honesty.
Elsa and Chris=one of the hottest star couples on the planet. Her accent, his accent yum. Praying they stay ‘true loves’ and happy family till their last breaths.

  9. Secret Squirrel says:

Perhaps in “Thor 3 – Okey Dokey Its All About Loki” Elsa will just replace Natalie altogether, and Jamie and Renee and Sir Anthony. You see where I’m going with this…

  10. eliza says:

    Of course she did.

  11. Gwen says:

I can’t even remember the kissing scenes. I do remember a lot of Loki scenes though 😀

  12. mk says:

I wonder if she imagined herself to be Natalie.

  13. klue says:

    Gorgeous woman..

  14. Trixie says:

Saw Thor 2 with my boyfriend in IMAX 3D. What an awesome date movie! And sorry, but I found this post’s story impossibly romantic. It’s the Chemistry, baby…[swoon and please forgive me]

  15. M.A.F. says:

Eh, I didn’t even bother to stay until the very end of the credits to watch that “extra” scene so nothing is ruined for me.

  16. Myrto says:

Well the kissing scenes between Thor and “Jane” still lacked chemistry so I don’t know what that says about them as a couple.

  17. Simmie says:

I would pay BIG money to see a film called The Dancing, Singing, Always Present Loki. Like, full price opening night Imax/3D money (I currently only shell out for half priced matinees so this is serious business).

  18. aquarius64 says:

Sad but true. Elsa is only getting press because she’s Mrs. Chris Hemsworth. But she’s also getting a rep like Heather Mills McCarthy; and we know how that turned out.

  19. GlimmerBunny says:

I’m sorry, but I find this story SO cute! Natalie and Chris had great chemistry IMO but her admitting that Elsa standing in for her made it more passionate is adorable. I think she (just like me) really believes in true love.

  20. Sarah says:

Jenna Dewan should learn something from her.

  21. phlyfiremama says:

When I saw the movie, after the kissing scene I told my Husband that they should have slipped Loki in disguised as Thor. Now THAT would have been an interesting ending!!!!

  22. Suki2 says:

Ok so now how about coming clean about Black Swan?

  23. MissNostalgia says:

Second child or no…….she has an MO, she still does want to have some kind of profile in Hollywood…..Adrien Brody and Olivier Martinez say so. She has toned down, not tuned out.

    • ThunderGoddess says:

Exactly. This woman uses her life as her stage, period. How do people fall for her new motherly and lovely image? Is that easy?
Then, please let her give some advice to K. Stew for example!!
Or maybe she could write a book “how to clean up your reputation of your fame***ing days 101”

  24. stellalovejoydiver says:

I am starting to like Natalie.

  25. Fan says:

It felt like it gave my mouth a bad taste. I feel like being cheated on.

  26. lunchcoma says:

I don’t know about the theory that she’s uninterested in furthering her own career. Elsa seems…ambitious, to say the least. She’s also 37. Regardless of her career ambitions, she doesn’t have an unlimited window if she wants a second biological child. Having a couple of kids close together in age and then pushing hard for some roles might be easier than having India, a spurt of auditions, and then another baby.

  27. Mrs.Martin says:

    I’m still team Brody ……

  28. Kate says:

Chris Hemsworth one of the only young male stars getting close to being A-list? Really? What does he have going for him other than Thor?

He has at best average acting chops and little to no versatility, he has yet to successfully carry a movie (Thor doesn’t count, the only actor who has anything to do with the financial success of the Marvel films is RDJ) and he doesn’t even have a strong public profile, most people would need you to describe him as the really muscly blonde dude in The Avengers before they recognized his name.

To compare him to someone with a similar lack of talent, Channing Tatum successfully carried a comedy, a drama and a romance all in the one year and was charming enough to fully engage the public. Chris Hemsworth isn’t even close to that level of success yet. At this point he could easily fade away in a year or two and no one would even notice. He has a long way to go and he’s surrounded by far more talented, and far more engaging actors. To get to the A-list he’s going to need to show people something they haven’t seen from him yet, and I’m not sure he’s capable of that.

    • Seapharris7 says:

I agree with this. Even after Thor came out, if I saw his photo in some media or just his name, I still needed someone to explain he was Thor. And then he has brothers? Don’t even ask me what their names are. He’s far from A list, he just lucked out with a big movie.

And, like everyone else, I’d much prefer to see more of Loki

      • Hakura says:

@Seapharris7 – Re: Brothers – I’m in the same boat, there. Since I haven’t seen either of the Hunger Games movies, the only reason I know *anything* about Liam Hemsworth is because he was ‘Miley’s (now ex) boyfriend/fiance’. All I know are from reading the opinions here on CB, that Liam is nowhere near Chris in the acting department (I think someone once said ‘mediore’, & got a lot of agreements?).

    • Vee says:

Please don’t say all this about Chris and that his fame is sinking! His wife will dump him in a minute if she can bag a bigger fish– if Loki’s star continues to rise!

BTW, Chris’s Snow White & the Huntsmen did great. And he’s hot as heck.
