Amy Winehouse is smoking pot to avoid cocaine and crack

Amy Winehouse is working on her addictions in St Lucia. And by that, I mean she’s smoking a lot of pot. Apparently part of Amy’s get-well regimen means keeping herself relaxed enough that she doesn’t want hard drugs as badly. And she’s regaining a bit of her appetite as well, as is evidenced by recent photos. In fact according to Fametastic, Amy’s friends are actually encouraging her to keep up with the pot – all in hopes it’ll keep her away from the crack.

POP junkie AMY WINEHOUSE puffs on a cannabis joint on holiday — in her battle AGAINST drug addiction. Pals say the Rehab singer, 25, smokes ten spliffs a day on Caribbean isle St Lucia to suppress cravings for class-A drugs.

And they are ENCOURAGING her £500-a-week habit — as it has been giving her the munchies and helping her back to a healthy weight.

A close friend said: “Amy hasn’t touched crack or cocaine for months. She has been really good. Drugs are easy to get in St Lucia but she has just stuck to smoking dope. The amazing thing is she smokes all morning then sees her personal trainer in the afternoon and is put through a gruelling workout.”

The star has also been keeping busy by giving singing lessons to kids at a school near to her villa. But the headteacher was horrified when she turned up at class wearing a bra and skimpy vest. A source said: “They scrabbled around and found a spare PE kit for her to wear. Because she’s so tiny, it fit.”

[From Gossip Rocks]

You know, if it were anyone other than Winehouse, I’d think that last little bit about the singing lessons was a bunch of bull thrown in there to see how gullible we are. But Winehouse has been photographed playing topless Scrabble with old people, she rescued a woman after a boating accident, crawled around on her hands and knees begging resort guests for drinks, and seemingly spends a good deal of her time on the trapeze and doing handstands on the beach. So really, nothing seems all that impossible on this extended vacation/half-ass rehab trip of hers. Singing with schoolchildren in your underwear? It’s certainly not the most bizarre thing Winehouse has been accused of.

I’m not sure whether I should say I hope Amy smoking a lot of pot gets her off the hard drugs. I hope she does get off crack and cocaine and whatever else she’s doing. I just also hope she’ll finally be willing to go to rehab and really do the hard work it’s going to take.

    Baby steps Amy!

  3. Chilly says:

Now if she could just take a class in personal hygiene…

  4. If she’s on the marijuana maintenance program, she’s not dealing with the issues that make her a drug addict in the first place.

Ditto prissa and xia. Everything’s relative with Amy.

    What a mess.

It seems to be working for her at least for now. It’s better than being on the brink of death, I guess.

  8. jhwoodw says:

I agree that being high isn’t allowing her to work on the deep issues, but she probably can’t handle that right now. At least it is giving her space to break the physical addiction to life threatening drugs. Hopefully someday she will be able to get totally clean.

    It doesn’t work. It’s a lousy substitute.

Maybe by doing this (smoking pot) she’ll be able to get to a place where she can STAY sober.

  11. sarah says:

i thought pot was a gateway drug that leads to worse drugs?

    yep….good ole white knuckle sobriety

shes onto the REAL good stuff now. good for her! i hope she stays “clean” when her vacation is over.

  14. I’ve actually have known acquaintances who were on “doctor’s orders” to smoke pot after battling with serious, heavy addictions. I guess the medical community is getting hip to the social-psychological undercurrent of the drug culture, and that sometimes the sociological rituals involved in drug use can be stronger to break than even physical addiction.

As for her obvious inner demons, I hope Wino finds it in her to fight. As a stoner, I know that Mary can be your best friend or worst enemy when staving off depression. I hope she can take a smoke break and suss things out in her head to the point where she’s ready to get professional help.

Lastly – GOD DAMN do I love a good work out after smoking a bowl! Nothing gets you keyed into your body mechanics like a smoke-break in the parking lot.

  15. hey in my opinion…she better off toking. she at least wont die if she stops doing crack and coke…poor girl.
if she were my friend i would tell her to check out my smoke shops they are awesome!!
    get better amy.

Thats one way to avoid harder drugs. Guess its not a gateway drug after all?
