Madonna Instagrams a photo of her furry armpits: gross or no big deal?

madge1

Madonna is sort of going crazy on Instagram. Bedhead has talked about it before – it’s like Madonna is totally down with the kidz (with their grillz and their twerkz) and she’s only recently discovered the joys of allowing her narcissism to run wild and free on social media. So in addition to tongue-tastic bathroom selfies, Madonna is now letting us see her hairy armpits. Note: In the original IG photo, you could see more of Madge’s boobs (she was just wearing a bra), so you can see the original boob/fur photo on her IG.

Thoughts on the fur? I know many will be like “ew, gross.” And I cannot defend Madonna’s decision to post this hairy armpit selfie on IG. But… that being said… I don’t shave my armpits every day. Do you? I get to it, like, maybe once a week, if that. I don’t really think about it that much because I never go sleeveless and it’s been cold as hell here for months and months. A little extra armpit fur keeps you warmer! But again, there’s a difference between quietly letting your fur flag fly and promoting your hairy pits on social media. But that’s not important. What’s important is that we’re talking about Madonna and that’s what she desperately wants. Lola, come and get your mama!

Also: you know how Madonna dressed up as the Khaleesi for Purim? Well, she didn’t just get a budget costume from the mall. Madonna contacted HBO and some HBO publicist checked with Emilia Clarke, and Madonna was allowed to “borrow” the real Khaleesi costume. For real.

Ugh, when will she stop trying to be relevant?
Flash news Mado, no one cares.

    • reality check says:

      THANK YOU!

Enough of her already, she’s seems pathetic like she cant leave the limelight.

    • MCraw says:

Lol seriously. Also, showing pit hair is gross. Yes, yes feministing, etc etc, blah blah. Still gross. Especially when juxtaposed with a face that’s been pulled and tugged so much, the wrinkles don’t know where to be smooth. Kaiser, stubble is fine, especially when between razors lol. But when it gets to a certain length, it’s just itchy and gross for me.

      • lisa says:

it looks like an underarm merkin

      • blackjack says:

I don’t know what the point of this latest bit of Madge exhibitionism is, unless she just wants to show the world her pit hair isn’t gray. That said, bahaha – it looks dyed a lighter brown, I could have sworn in those underam pics of her from back in the day it was a big black bush. Ugh. Suddenly I have no appetite.

    • Paul says:

      I agree and so nasty!

    • Jordan says:

Gross and unnecessary. Really an immature famewhore kinda move.

  2. V4Real says:

Nothing new. We’ve seen her furry pubes when she did Playboy years ago.

…and what’ going on with her face in that first pic, no close up please.

    • doofus says:

holy crap…I was looking at her skin and thinking, “yeah, that’s what her skin REALLY looks like, with no photoshop”.

and I’m not going to bash her for having wrinkles, but it just shows how vain she is that most of her instagrams are “brushed” to hide it.

    • Skyblue says:

No kidding…I remember her hairy armpit pictures from an issue of playboy circa 1985

      • Jessiebes says:

And in 1985 her armpit hair was dark!

      • blackjack says:

Bahahha, I just said this. She’s dying the pit hair, it’s probably gray, she wants to show us it’s not. hit the pits with a box of Clairol. lol

  3. Delta Juliet says:

Blech. I don’t care if she shaves her pits or not but I also don’t want to see them.

  4. Dani2 says:

BARF. Don’t know what’s worse, the fact that she’s doing this or the fact that she’s doing this in her 50s?

    • Shannon says:

Haha, exactly. I could hardly care less what personal choices women make about grooming their own bodies (it takes all kinds, as they say) nor do I think it’s right to judge any woman for said choices. But this is about Madonna being an attention whore. And that I judge. I’m embarrassed for her. No one thinks she can’t be sexy at 50, but dressing and acting like an 18 year old is simply creepy. I’m 25 and I don’t even do this “look at me! I’m wearing lingerie!” stuff anymore.

    • MyCatLoves TV says:

When you are a young woman (older girl?), you do things for shock value and so you can prove you are sexy. Hey look, I’ve got boobs! Yay, me! Not all women outgrow that. When I think of how I carried myself and dressed in my late teens/early 20’s, I just shake my head. But I was a kid and I had a lot of maturity to gain. Madonna and I are about the same age and while I admire her energy and ability to stay slender thru menopause, it is just embarrassing to watch a mature woman act the way she does. Plus I wasn’t raising a young woman myself. Dollars to donuts, Lordes is acting much like the kitten of that classic cartoon cat – Sylvester – and in this case embarrassedly saying, “Oh mother!”

  5. QQ says:

This bitch is so pressed parched and thirsty for attention… And Too old for Instagram too

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I shave under my arms, but whatever someone else wants to do is their business. I am more grossed out by her insatiable need for attention and the thought of a woman her age taking constant stupid looking selfies. It’s just pathetic and tiresome.

    • LadyMTL says:

I’m with you. I shave under my arms every day (I like having ‘clean pits’ lol) but I really don’t care if Madonna or any other woman chooses not to. What gets on my nerves where Madonna is concerned is her constant “look at meeeeee” thing.

    • Kay V says:

Bingo! You summed it up perfectly!

    • littlestar says:

Yup! I have a feeling that “hair” on her pit isn’t even her hair. It kind of looks like a little toupe glued onto her pit. I would guess she’s had laser hair removal done so she has no real armpit hair of her own!

    • booboobird says:

i think she is trying to prove that she is still young. doesn’t hair growth slow down with age? she’s showing that instead of 5 hairs in 7 rows she has a weasel curled up under her arms (unfortunately for her it looks fake) it’s a sad call for attention.

      • Mel M says:

Ha! For real. I went to her Instagram account and saw someone calling her out on it. Also isn’t she naturally dark haired? I have naturally dark hair and there is no way my pit hair could ever look that light unless I bleached it.

  7. bfismybff says:

While on one hand I think Madonna’s just constantly looking for attention and this is her latest gag, I also think it’s important to show images of what women REALLY look like. It’s ok to not shave your pits. Hair grows there naturally, and on a woman’s legs and genitals. If you prefer to shave it, cool. If you don’t wanna shave it, you shouldn’t have to and you shouldn’t be considered gross for keeping your body in its natural state.

    • Tiffany :) says:

To me, the photo isn’t as interesting as the backlash it received on social media. I feel it kind of makes the photo “art” because it was the catalyst for showing us the current mindset on women and their natural bodies. I am not a fan by Madonna, by a long shot, but I am kind of glad she did this. I also find it really interesting that she didn’t airbrush out her wrinkles and crepey skin. This is the most natural we have seen her in years. I have to applaud that. So much better than grillz and tongue.

    • lithe says:

      well said, bfismybff

    • MyCatLoves TV says:

Is your screen name short for Boyfriend is my Best Friend Forever? I love that sentiment and agree so much!

  8. Kiddo says:

OMG, SUNSET BLVD. close-up. That is all. Don’t even notice the pits.

    • PunkyMomma says:

This. Truly. Madonna, no one wants to see your 50+ year old pits, ass or vag. You crossed the line from relevant to ridiculous years ago.

    • BW says:

Armpit hair is natural. I don’t want to see it, but it’s not like she got her pit pierced.

What’s going on with her face? That goes beyond wrinkles. Her skin is lumpy, like she has a bad rash or injections that didn’t do what they were supposed to do.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I can’t hate on the wrinkles. I am glad she is FINALLY showing them instead of pretending that they don’t exist.

      • Kiddo says:

It’s not the wrinkles specifically. It’s the band on her head, the harsh lighting, her motivation, her desperation, and LASTLY, the wrinkles. So much like the film.

    • CL says:

OR, Isma from Ihe Emperor’s New Groove

      • Kiddo says:

        Have to do a search.

      • CL says:

        http://youtu.be/iaZhG0Pi6Vo

        It’s about 30 seconds in.

It’s the least I could do, since I spelled Ysma’s name incorrectly.

Ysma is a power-hungry old woman with delusions of grandeur and beauty. She always has a dumb young man around, following her every move. So, nothing like Madge. 😉

  9. kpist says:

A little tiny stubble, but that’s full on bush.

  10. Dawn says:

She just needs to stop with this stuff now. She is like 56 years old and she is back to acting desperate like she did when she first started out. She has enough money now or should to just age with some class and dignity instead of ugly grillz and hairy arm pits. Geez.

  11. HappyMom says:

Oh my god-Madonna-I’m begging you: dignity, please. You look ridiculous. This is just such an obvious ploy for attention-pathetic.

  12. Windy says:

I hate to say it but I don’t think that is real hair. It looks photoshopped. Does that make this even more distasteful if it is fake?

    • coco says:

I think it is an armpit wig as well – it looks like doll hair at the roots…

      • Fresh says:

I’m glad someone else noticed that too – I was just contemplating heading to the bathroom to check out my own underarms because I thought it looked so suspicious!! Lol.

    • Belle Epoch says:

WINDY I thought it looked fake too! It’s all the same length and it’s too straight and too much in one place. I think she is punking us (is that a word?) so the joke is on us in her mind. It’s all a trick and we fell for it, hahaha. Isn’t that a little juvenile?

      • InVain says:

I’ve let mine go in the past – due to cold weather and laziness – but not to that extent . I thought it was Fakey McFakerson too. To answer Kaiser’s questions – she clearly wants it to be a big deal and therefore it’s gross.

    • booboolarue says:

Yup fake hair! Wow she is something else, am more worried by the really dry face though. . .call Gywnnie for that fish placenta!

    • chaine says:

i thought so too. it’s so … shaped and uniform in length. hard to believe a bajilionnaire like her did not have it all lasered away years ago.

    • justme says:

I think that it is fake. For one thing, after menopause those pits frequently become a lot less hairy – same with legs. And hers would not be red/blonde anyway.

    • betteboo says:

      Totally agree. Fake armpit wiglet

  13. dorothy says:

    How pathetically desperate.

  14. Marianne says:

I don’t shave my armpits unless I’m going to be wearing a top that shows them off. That being said, I also don’t take pictures of them and put them on the internet.

    • Birdie says:

Sorry, i’m just curious. Do you have a boyfriend and is he ok with it?

      • MsDisgrace says:

I don’t shave under my arms either really, and no one I’ve ever dated including the current bf has ever cared. Some even think it’s cool. If someone was really that bothered by it I doubt I’d WANT to date them anyway…

  15. Jaded says:

Stop Madonna. Just. Stop. You’ve now reached the pathetic zone. You reek of desperation.

  16. Crack Fox says:

I call shenanigans. I think she’s wearing a pit merkin. Madge is a natural brunette.

    • Size Does Matter says:

OMG PIT MERKIN! I love it!!! I’m going to try and use it in a sentence today.

And I vote gross. If she doesn’t want to shave it, fine. But then don’t give it a close up FTLOG. I hate that we are talking about her, which is all she wants! Don’t feed the bear!

    • Size Does Matter says:

Wait, I have an idea! Maybe she’s trying to prove that some part of her is still natural.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Pit Merkin! LOL!!!! I am dying ova here!

    • ~Z~ says:

      Okay….
I just googled armpit merkin and there IS such a thing.

  17. Eleonor says:

For the love of God YOU ARE EFFIN MADONNA !!! You don’t need to do this.
I can’t tell how disappointed I am to see her like this.

  18. Nev says:

    awesome.beautiful shots.

  19. dale says:

Is it weird that I think that the armpit hair looks photoshopped?

    • Candy Love says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who notes it. The hair does not look real and there something just really off about it.

    • ~Z~ says:

Thank you! It looks fake to me! On the right side of it, it kinda looks like hair plugs on a guy!

    • Jessiebes says:

Agreed, all those dots around the start of the hair growth.

Also as a poster mentioned above, she is NOT a natural blonde.

    • Krista says:

It looks kind of like plugs to me. Ha!

  20. Christin says:

I’m equally distracted by her face. It really is like she’s reverted back to her younger days of attention seeking.

  21. Clucky says:

It looks fake. Like she got hair plugs in her pits…???

  22. FingerBinger says:

Madonna still has winter bush. Big deal. It’s spring now I’m sure she’ll shave it.

  23. some bitch says:

Glad to see ageism is still acceptable. Her body, if she wants to have armpit hair, more power to her.

  24. Vanderhootchie says:

At her age? Gross. And attention-seeking as usual. I can’t stand her. Never could. And rather obscenely rich for a mediocre talent. Yes – mediocre.

    • MyCatLoves TV says:

But a hell of a great businesswoman. That is why she is obscenely rich more than anything else.

  25. K-rock says:

This actually isn’t new for Madonna. Back in the 80’s she was all about arm pit hair. Is it an attempt at getting attention? Yes. But she has done it before. I agree that it looks fake and shopped.
I don’t shave my pits everyday either but then again I don’t go walking into the grocery store with my arms over my head to make everyone sure that they know lol! Oh Madonna you are so much fun!

  26. smee says:

If she was 12 I could totally understand this.

  27. Granger says:

Who cares about the pits — why is she holding a cigarette in that one picture? Does Madonna smoke? If not, what the hell is the point of that photograph? Aren’t we all trying to teach our children that smoking ISN’T cool? And yet, here’s f*cking Madonna, pretending to smoke. That is just so bizarre.

  28. Irishserra says:

I don’t shave my armpits every day either. In fact, I hardly do, but I couldn’t grow that much fur if I wanted to. My hair just doesn’t grow like that. And I’ve got red/blonde hair, so even the little that bit that does grow is invisible.

I think because it’s Madonna, I find myself thinking, “Eewww…” but if it were someone I could better tolerate I’d probably give them a pass. Unfair, I know, but that’s just how I feel.

  29. Laine says:

I love the GOT outfit, very cool and dressing up in it, she looks pretty good. I don’t care for the armpit hair in my face this early in the morning though just after breakfast. She’s verging on billionaire status and I don’t think she’s all that pathetic or desperate. She just doesn’t care and likes to rock the boat.

  30. Adrien says:

Madge looks lovely here. Reminds me of “True Blue” album cover. But what’s up with the line in her jaw?

  31. Rita says:

Now, if we can get a picture of Miley Cyrus licking Madonna’s hairy arm pit, we can officially declare an end to civilization.

  32. cro-girl says:

Its not gross… it’s just a wee bit strange. I have to admit though when I go without hair removal for awhile I am absolutely enamoured with how lush and dark my hair comes in. lol! Why can’t I grow that kind of hair on my head?

  33. ~Z~ says:

She was so anxious to post it she totally forgot to shop her face!

  34. GlimmerBunny says:

That’s not how Daenerys’ (Khaleesi’s) dress looks! She added the leather corset. I know the Quarth dress perfectly because I tried to recreate it for Halloween last year, and I woud have died of happinass if I could wear the real amazing dress. I can’t believe Madonna ruined it by putting that huge corset over it!

  35. BRE says:

That’s so “hip” of Madonna, but M.I.A. showing the finger is just “such a teenager/irrelevant thing to do”.

  36. Goober says:

Her armpit looks so fresh, relevant and youthful compared to the skin around her eyes

  37. ff says:

her instagram was better like a month ago when it was peppered with revolution of love stuff. these lack imagination but are still true, which even at M’s worst is something i admire, even when i’m cringing (licking the shower – is that supposed to be clean and dirty? ugh.) i would never disparage someone for their age rather their lack of originality and independence, which people of all ages exhibit in droves. i think ‘old’ is really about how one lives and in that respect many youngs are way older than M – to name just one person – could ever be. the mindset one has to criticize another for being old is a demonstration of such conformity as well as lack of foresight, i mean, one is lucky to live a long life! yet here we are reading this. the whole world needs to change. ah! all this from a lame pic of armpit hair.

  38. msw says:

Despite the obvious “look at me” tone to it, I will never understand why body hair on women is a big deal. Hairy armpits look the same on men and women. The “shock” is all in social context.

Madonna irritates me, but I still love the Khaleesi costume. I thought she pretty much nailed it–now I know how.

  39. Bananapants says:

I have may-jah issues, armpit being one of them, so I shave them and my legs every time I shower. That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever told another person about that, and I don’t care what anyone else does with their pits, you know?
I feel embarrassed for/about Madonna these days. I was the biggest fan, up until her latest incarnation, the I’m-50+-but-please-still-consider-me-relevant-and-hip Madonna. I can’t with her or her pits. Bye.

  40. Jemmens says:

Stop making fun of her! Poor old thing obviously has dementia….

  41. db says:

If there had been social media back in 1983, would Madonna have become a pop star? Or would her drive been diverted into relentless selfies?

Btw, if that’s her real pit fur, she dyes it! LOL

  42. mkyarwood says:

Pit upkeep is the worst and I’m totally cool when I see people letting it grow. But, honestly, no need to make a public announcement about it with some kind of ‘I R SULTRY’ expression.

  43. AG-UK says:

The MJ gloves sorry whatever the hands look like deal with it. Looks stupid.

  44. Paige says:

Madonna has nothing to prove but, she seems like she so desperate for attention and to stay relevant even though she doesn’t need to. This is why she latches on anyone relevant at the time(Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus etc).

  45. Jen34 says:

The arm pit hair doesn’t bother me. What I find shocking is how accessible she has become.

  46. rudy says:

I have furry armpits but was STUNNED that madonna put them on display like she did. An exhibitionist is our Madge. I feel for her kids. Wonder what kind of mother she is. I never ever have seen her hold her two youngest in her arms. And what she did in Malawi is unforgivable.

  47. NeoCleo says:

I rarely comment on her because I find her supremely annoying. However, I do admit to being totally amused listening to her try to approximate a British accent with that honking voice of hers. That was back when she was still married to that “Guy.” I wish she would shut up and go sh*t in her corn flakes already.

  48. JudyK says:

Gross. Everything about you is gross. You are yesterday’s news. Get over it.

  49. Zwella Ingrid says:

I have a question for any of you who grow pit hair. I let mine go for long periods of time, as since I have gotten older, it is really sparse. It was light colored to begin with. I tend to shave it more regularly in the summer. My question– Is it even possible to grow pit hair that lush?

    • Tiffany :) says:

“Lush”….lol….it is so accurate, but it just cracks me up to have that word used about pit hair. Yes, I am a giant 10 year old. 😉

    • Jessiebes says:

Well I’ve seen plenty of men having armpit hair that is plenty lush, so why not! For women after menopause though, the growth is considerably less there.

  50. Al says:

Nice try! But we all know you’re not a real blonde.

  51. Ali says:

her skincare commercial made me throw up in my mouth

  52. Meredith says:

Could someone please tell me what Purim (a Jewish religious holiday) has to do with putting on a costume from the Game of Thrones?? I know what Purim celebrates (Queen Esther saving the Jews from the king’s evil scheming henchman Haman the Agagite) but I never thought it involved costumes and certainly not costumes from modern TV shows (well received by critics or not).

Does this make sense to anyone?

  53. pru says:

Not sure if this hair is real or not (She may just be trying to distract us from her skin!) , but this is a prime example of why celebrities shouldn’t use IG or Twitter. TMI to the extreme and attention seeking at it’s worst.
I honestly am starting to prefer most celebrities when they keep their “filter” on. The more I know, the less I like.

  54. LilyT says:

The whole “hot granny/GILF” thing didn’t pan out so now she’s going for gross.

    I wonder if she has a pit-hair grooming team…

  55. Brasileira says:

Doesn’t it look fake to anyone else? I don’t think it’s actual hair, it looks like some sort of, what’s the word, “armpit wiglet”? Look at how perfectly located it is (Gosh, I can’t believe I just said it), and the roots…. I don’t think it’s real. Famewhorish and desperate? Sure. Real? Not so much.

    • MourningTheDeathOfMusic says:

I thought the same thing, Brasileira! I’m leaning towards it being a hair piece.

  56. Zizi says:

She looks like she got a boob job too.

  57. sashavice says:

This post reeks of ageism and sexism. Women started shaving due to razor and shaving cream companies trying to make a buck off women’s insecurities. No woman is obligated to shave, and the brainwashed masses shouldn’t judge them.

    • crimestick says:

I completely agree, sashavice. I’m no fan of Madonna, but I applaud any woman who has the guts to show her body in a natural state. Many of these responses seem so juvenile.

      • Jaded says:

Madonna’s body is not in a natural state. Her face has been jacked, injected and resurfaced repeatedly. Her hair is dyed. She works out obsessively. And showing a furry armpit isn’t showing women how to emancipate themselves from the evils of the Proctor & Gambles of the world. It’s just another pathetic Instagram moment from a woman who continues to poke her finger in the eye of the world with childish stunts in a desperate attempt to stay relevant.

  58. Mandalynca says:

Whether she shaves her pits or not, I don’t really care. All these posts reek of desperation. Silly cow.

  59. Attention says:

This is called ageing disgracefully. You wouldn’t expect anything less from her. She doesn’t want to fade out and can’t stand not having attention so we’ll probably see a lot more. Why shouldn’t women her age be shameless? I say go Madonna.

  60. Nibbi says:

I kinda dig her in the sense that it feels like she’s openly f*ing with us. That kinda seems like what her expression is saying
    here, anyway.

I am really troubled by those here insulting her for being old, though.

    • MyCatLoves TV says:

I’m Madonna’s age and I haven’t really felt insulted by anybody’s post here. It’s not that she is “old” but, rather, that she is not displaying the grace and class that we *should* acquire after fifty plus years on this earth. The more I think about it, the more I think she is totally screwing with us. Maybe it is pure desperation but maybe it is just her way of getting people talking about her so she can get a laugh out of it. Hmmm. I suppose that is also desperation!

  61. Maritza says:

Sorry but that armpit hair looks more like a stick on to me. She has natural dark hair, why would her armpit hair be blonde? She just wants everyone to talk about her again, like the old days.

  62. Evie says:

    Madonna REEKS of desperation!

Madonna’s not doing this to show she’s a feminist. This is a 55 year old woman — in great physical shape — but middle aged nonetheless, who can’t come to terms with the fact that she’s aging and that she’s no longer the “next big thing.” She’s been an exhibitionist all her life. Yes, she sported unshaved armpits for a time in the 80s. When she first arrived in NYC as an unknown, she was filmed standing stark naked on a a city street on the lower East side of Manhattan on a traffic island at rush hour.

Everything she does is designed to be provocative. This selfie is tame. Julia Roberts similarly sported hairy armpits wearing a sleeveless dress at a Hollywood awards ceremony years ago and kept flapping her arms to draw attention to herself. M’onique also puts her unshaved armpits & legs on display for all to see.

Over the last 30+ years Madonna has repeatedly done everything she can to shock. Hairy armpits, who cares? Now if Madonna would give up Botox, plastic surgery AND take a selfie of herself sans makeup, up close in full daylight, now that would be shocking!

  63. Miss Melain says:

I can’t imagine standing alone in my bathroom taking photos of my armpit. So odd. I can’t imagine any of my girlfriends doing that either.

What I really don’t get with her and other women like her .. as well traveled as she is and with the access she has to quality education. entertainment and ability to cultivate interesting or expensive hobbies, there must be something she can find to do other than taking pit pics. She must be so dull of mind and spirit.

    • MyCatLoves TV says:

You nailed it. Can you imagine having the resources to indulge your fantasy hobby (I collect vintage glass so I would have a 2nd home full of windows that just displayed their colors beautifully in the sunlight) or live somewhere that is a complete paradise for the mind and senses? Yet this one takes pics of her armpit. Bizarre.

  64. rambling says:

This smacks as an act of true desperation on Madonna’s part. I, and a million other women in this world have hairy armpits. If she wants to provoke or grab attention, she should try NOT to act like an immature 20 year old but someone who appreciated her own age. Now that would be provocative!

I use to look up to Madonna back in the day but now I’m embarrassed by her desperation and her need to be in the lime light regardless of how bad she comes across. Give me some Grace Jones any day of the week, that’s what you call a true diva, you don’t see her popping up all over the place but when she does the crowds go crazy! Put some Grace on your face!

I’m more offended by her wearing the Kahleesi’s outfit!! There is only one Daeneyrs Targaryen!

Well, something positive in all this… her arm is beautiful. That could have been a flattering photo without the questionable armpit decoration.
