One of the great romances of our time is the one between Rihanna and Katy Perry. Of course I’m kidding. These two have long held out the “BFF” title when it’s convenient, but we only see them together at events like awards shows or Coachella. We never see them actually hanging out together. They cozy up for photo ops and pretend to stare at each other’s racks. It’s all for show. I don’t think they Katy and Rihanna have anything in common beyond their mutual pop star statuses.
Katy and Rihanna also have a habit of “falling out” after one of them (they take turns) shades the other’s boyfriend. I get a kick out of that because they’re both so judgy, yet they both have the worst taste in men. A new story that originated in Now! says Rihanna’s pushing Katy’s buttons by hanging out with John and recording a duet with him. That’s a little strange, right? John and Rihanna’s musical styles are very different. The source is also a little suspect, but this is a fun story:
Katy Perry is upset with former BFF Rihanna over her recording session with her ex- boyfriend John Mayer.
The “Birthday” singer broke up with John in February after an on-off relationship which began in summer 2012. The courtship reportedly ended after Katy found messages from another girl on the infamous lothario’s phone. The 29-year-old is said to be upset that her supposed close friend has been spending time with the man who broke her heart.
“Katy’s been left shocked and hurt after finding out John and Rihanna met up at a recording studio in LA two weeks ago before having dinner,” a source told British magazine Now. “Rihanna asked John to sing vocals on a new track, but Katy’s flipped out and told her best mate she’s gone one step too far this time. Katy’s totally unimpressed.”
Rihanna reportedly shared a cosy dinner with John at LA’s Soho House to discuss the deal.
Katy has been close friends with the 26-year-old since 2009 when Rihanna sent the Dark Horse singer a Valentino handbag as a present. Rihanna helped Katy through her divorce from British comedian Russell Brand but Katy doesn’t feel she has been as considerate during her most recent relationship woes.
“She was madly in love with John and heartbroken when it didn’t work out,” the source continued. “The last thing any girl wants is to see her best friend getting chummy with their ex. It’s a complete slap in the face.”

I could actually see Rihanna doing a duet with John even though it will be a terrible song. RiRi’s done a duet with Adam Levine, so it couldn’t possibly a worse. She duets with everyone. John wouldn’t be off limits just because Katy dated him. I don’t think there’s anything else going on beyond musical collaboration. We’ve heard rumors before that John tried to hook up with Rihanna, but I doubt that was true. John’s a raging racist, and I don’t see Rihanna being attracted to him at all.

I can believe this. Rihanna seems to get a kick out of this kind of thing. Similarly she had a renewed interest in Chris Brown when he was in a relationship with that model girl and now Drake when he got together with Zoe Kravitz. That said I don’t necessarily think she will become involved with Mayer but, imho the fact that he’s Perry’s ex was probably a major incentive to work w/ and spent time with J.M, especially since their friendship is sometimes fraught. I don’t even dislike Rihanna – some people are just like that, the thrill of “stealing” someone away from their S.O or getting with a friend’s ex only adds to the excitement. Not that the dudes who are in a relationships etc. aren’t more at fault than she is – this is just a recurring pattern with her.
Rhianna is predictable in what she does. She is a great singer, I like her better than beyonce, but a woman of mystery she ain’t.
RiRi looks slamming in that teal outfit. That is sexy without showing boobs or looking trashy. I believe this story though. RiRi loves her controvesial duets. John Mayer could be doing it to make Katy mad.

I’m glad it was pointed out that John is racist – why would Rihanna want to do a duet with him? It’s not like she’s hurting for duet partners / success / exposure. Don’t do it girl!

God, that pic of them looking flirty with each other is less convincing than me in the last six months of my marriage. I see those two having zero in common, except maybe some prescriptions.
Why does Katy insist on doing these hideous things with her hair? It’s not glam, it’s not punk, it’s not fashionable. It’s just plain ugly. She looks completely lost, like an insecure seventh grader.
As for the duet…it’s very hard to imagine John Mayer singing on a Rihanna club hit. But maybe she’s doing an acoustic record? I doubt that this is true though. I think John’s PR people are working overtime. They hooked him up with Katy for publicity only–the song, the drama, all of it was fabricated to raise his profile. It kind of backfired for him, though, as he was left looking like a jackass as always.
Is “duet with John Mayer” a euphemism?
Rihanna really do look gorgeous in that teal blue without being trashy. I agree with Kimber that I like Rihanna singing better than Bey. Wow a duet with Rihanna and Mayer would be strange. The only way John can lose his racist title is to date an African America female and I can’t see him or Rihanna doing that. I just don’t think Rihanna will stay with one man for any lenght of time. Is it just me that get the vibes that Rihanna and Katy are serious bi-sexuals. I also get the feeling Rihanna and Katy and John Mayer are dates for hire.
I wonder what it must be like for someone who is a celeb’s BFF/assistant/entourage… I mean, you basically have to hang out with that person 24/7, always be awesome for the cameras and for the celebrity (so they don’t dump you), put up with all the shit, and also get paid for “being there” by your best friend? I can’t imagine it is in any way healthy. Though I’ll admit Rihanna’s posse look like they’re always having a blast and genuinely love each other…
