George Clooney & Amal plan to marry in Venice one year exactly after they met

Lord, I really hope that we can stop speculating about George Clooney’s wedding at some point. I’m sort of glad that the engagement is going by so quickly and they’re not going to draw it out, Aniston-Theroux and Jolie-Pitt style. By all accounts, George and Amal Alamuddin will be getting married in September. Probably around the 12th. We’ve heard gossip about how it could be set at Downton Abbey (real name: Highclere Castle), which seemed too twee to be true. Italy seems much more reasonable, and considering that George just took Amal on yet another holiday in Venice, I’ve been saying that Venice would probably be their wedding destination. Page Six agrees.

George Clooney is planning a romantic Italian wedding in Venice with fiancée Amal Alamuddin, Page Six can exclusively reveal. The Hollywood star and prominent human rights lawyer Alamuddin are hoping to marry at a palace in the historic city in September, we are told. The couple was seen dining in the floating city in late May after touring possible wedding venues.

A source said, “George and Amal want to be married in Italy, but they need a location that offers them and their guests privacy.”

We are told that Clooney — who intends to marry Amal exactly one year after they met — decided against a wedding at his stunning Lake Como estate because it doesn’t offer enough privacy, and he is concerned the attention a wedding would attract would inconvenience the locals and neighbors.

Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin were spotted dining at Venetian restaurant Da Ivo late last month, accompanied by Clooney’s bodyguard and his girlfriend. According to a report, they toasted with Prosecco and white wine, then the group enjoyed sautéed shellfish, smoked tuna, mussel soup, crayfish and artichoke risotto and charcoal-grilled seabass before departing in a motorboat from a back pier close to the restaurant. The next morning, they flew out of Venice airport by helicopter.

A spokesman for Clooney didn’t get back to us last night.

Do you judge George and Amal for deciding on an Italian wedding following The Kimye Wedding disaster? To be fair, Kim and Kanye were in Florence. But to be fair to Kimye, Venice is even more touristy. I don’t know. George loves everything about Italy, and Italians seem to love him too (they call him Giorgio Clooney). Maybe it will really go down in Venice, or maybe Venice is just the decoy. What do you make of this though? “Clooney — who intends to marry Amal exactly one year after they met”? I eye-rolled. But I’m bitter!

I don’t see this as being similar to the Kim & Kanye thing. George has had a house there for ages and spends a lot of time in the country, so getting married there isn’t just a whim based on it sounding cool. I’m not sure I buy that it’s going to happen in Venice (it just seems like it would be way more difficult to keep things even semi-private in a city like that), but I think it’s nice (if true) that he’s not doing it at his house because he doesn’t want to subject his neighbors to the media circus.

*picks up eyes because they fell off from eyeroll related complications*

  3. SnarkySnarkers says:

God, I am so over these two! Bored. to. death.

  4. raindrop says:

Her shoes are amazing. I love that she seems to favor flats, loafers, and weird sneakers.

  5. don't kill me i'm french says:

More cliché that a wedding at Paris? A wedding in Venice!
Go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City and spend a week-end there with the family and friends!

  6. AryaMartell says:

Am I the only one who is starting to roll their eyes everytime I hear a story about Clooney’s wedding? We get it, he fell hard for her but shut up already.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

Yes!!!!!!! The one interest of this wedding is thanks to them,KimK and Kanye W’s wedding won’t be the wedding of the year

    • D says:

No you’re not the only one. The constant “leaking” of details about this relationship makes me think it’s an arrangement.

  7. Jules says:

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  8. lower-case deb says:

this us whay they’re reduced to? endless weddings? so sad for them, but i do wonder how much of the media circus is of their (read: George) own making.

the Violence summit is tomorrow, and Amal who is involved with AJ is surely involved in jt whether indirectly or directly. if not, she even has other achievements of note, i’m sure. but reduced now to the role of “wife to be” and nothing else.

as if all her academic, professional, etc achievements play third or fourth fiddle to the fact that she is soon to be a celeb wife. poor Amal.

i hope we will get coverage of more substance soon (although i am also aware that the nature of her job is mostly dependent upon confidentiality)

    • Chris says:

      Don’t sign anything, lady, please.

(Still, I love seeing her pics, really dig her style a lot.)

    • Tulip Garden says:

I see your point but some people don’t need “coverage” of their achievements and hard work. They do what they do because they have a passion for it. Media coverage for their particular contribution isn’t their end goal. In other words, she and her work isn’t diminished regardless of what the media prefers to concentrate on.

  9. harpreet says:

It might not be Venice proper, perhaps one of the surrounding islands, like Lido (which has a beach).

  10. Lori says:

why doesn’t he go north to Puglia where Justin Timberdouche and Jessica Biel got married. That was pulled off with lots of privacy.

    • marjiscott says:

Oh God, Do we have to go through this boring thing? No more stories until it actually happens OK?

  11. Helvetica says:

If you want privacy, stop shelling out exclusive stories to Page Six and People about when (summer, a year after meeting) and where (Italy) it’s going to happen.

Come on, George. You have always been the best at this game. What is going on?

  12. zyfoo says:

    conchita’s got BIG feet!!!!!

    • Madi says:

I have seen this comment by you many times on this site and have bitten my tongue once too often. As someone who has both transvestite and transgender friends, I find your constant comments offensive in relation to calling this woman conchita wurst . They have enough struggles in society without being the butt of your nasty joke, it is the same as calling her out for her race or religion.

      • Sassy says:

Is “Conchita” some kind of code? She does have big feet – at least they look big in those horrendous oxford type shoes.

      • zyfoo says:

why offensive unless you think conchita looks offensive. i only meant that she looks a lot like conchita and yes amal has very big feet!!!!

  13. lucy2 says:

Ugh, Italy is a beautiful place, let’s not associate everything regarding it with Kim and Kanye and their circus.
Didn’t Emily Blunt and John K get married at George’s estate? I could see them wanting to have a wedding elsewhere, but at this point I’m thinking it’s mostly speculation from the gossip sources still.

  14. M.A.F. says:

Eh, I’ll wait until there are actual pictures of said wedding. Enough with the PR, it’s old and trying and should have been done away with when the studio system collapsed.

  15. HatetheletterK says:

Never ming George. Here she is a Human Rights attorney and she goes out in public in those ripped up jeans, looking like a grungy, wanna-be-Hollywood hipster. Just awful. I thought she had class.

  16. lionbdadddy says:

George C engagement and wedding stories are the most boring underwhelming stories to date. Not buying these two as a genuine couple, I think something else has something to do with it.

  17. siri says:

If you want privacy, you don’t talk about the details. I remember her father saying in an interview how important it is that the world now knows who Amal Alamuddin is, and about her achievements…so I guess HER family really likes it big. Unfortunately, this whole PR circus leaves Amal with being “the wife of”- but I also believe she doesn’t mind. She doesn’t seem to play an important role in her legal practice anyway.

  18. Jaderu says:

    Ok King George.
You want your privacy for your private wedding to your private attorney fiance. You fly your private helicopter and eat your private artichoke risotto while not disturbing your private friends and private neighbors.
Your impending private nuptials are so private I’m shocked *eyeroll* that I already no so much about it.

  19. No Way says:

Why is this so public? From mister I don’t talk about my private life to the press. No recently he just leaks it drip by drip. Why the “fiancee” roll out? Dude is a divorcee in his fifties marrying a women in her mid-thirties -really you need the full blown out celebrity hoopla wedding. Which is what he has now no matter what. I am sure he knows how to have the same type of wedding she wants more privately- so don’t even try to make that case. The guy can disappear when he wants to. Makes you wonder who wants the publicity him or her.

I never really thought he was gay, mainly because I think he would admit it, but I am wondering now if he is bisexual. I think that could be a detriment to his career, and he could be deflecting. Publicly bisexual is just not okay for guys in hollywood. Kind of funny if you ask me, but the girls can admit to it, but the men never do. I can’t think of one who admitted to it, and there has to be some bisexual actors in Hollywood. Not that marrying would end the speculation, but it does deflect it. Plus the image he has crafted of himself seems to mean a lot to him.

    • siri says:

If his image means that much to him, and I think it’s the thing he cares about the most, he would never admit ANY ‘irregularities’ regarding his sexuality. No, George is not that courageous. If the girls admit to it, it’s probably considered a sort of ‘trying out’. Perhaps with the idea behind it, they will soon figure out, and get married to a man anyway. Like Amber Heard. If a man admits to this, it might look like he can’t make up his mind, and is weak for that reason. To feel attracted to both genders seems a subject too difficult to contemplate for many people. Although it MIGHT be the only one that makes sense. Back to George 🙂 : only he knows, but this whole thing feels staged, forced, rushed, and I hope for him, I’m mistaken.

      • Lori says:

I think he was humiliated by the whole Stacey breakup. Something happened there, and I think she was cheating with her now husband before her and George split up publicly. And that would be bad for George’s image. Being turned over for a younger woman……….he’s not Demi Moore FFS. I think his camp leaked that BS about him and Eva Longoria right away to keep up façade. And I do think Stacey’s marriage and pregnancy are behind this quick turn around for George. That and that he now find the jokes and comments about is personal life embarrassing.

      • siri says:

@Lori: I agree, Stacey’s rather fast ‘recovery’ was humiliating for him, although I believe it was a contract anyway. And I’m still really surprised that he and his team noticed so late, how damaging to his image these contracts became. Also agree on Eva Longoria- they were just trying a quick image fix. On the other hand, I do think that Clooney realized he better makes different choices now. I mean, he’s in his 50s, and with a lawyer wife, he is hoping to stop any questions about his private life. But the way he handled this so far, I doubt it’ll work.

      • Jat says:

My guess is that George and Amal will live apart most of the time, which will only add to the speculations about his private life. He needs therapy.

  20. Ravensdaughter says:

Wow-twenty or so notes! We really are bored!

  21. roxy750 says:

Oh his team is good at doing what they do!! Making us believe they are in love and are dating and he is straight! And/Or if he runs for office (like the great actor he is) he has to make himself look the part. WELL PLAYED CLOONEY!

  22. Amelie says:

There are so many things that don’t make sense about this engagement. Frankly, things feel staged. My feeling regarding the setting for the wedding is that it might have something to do with both (legal) residency issues in order to marry in a particular country and (potential) divorce guidelines.

My gut tells me that the wedding won’t take place though!

  23. BunnyBabe says:

Is one year enough time to really get to know someone for someone who was so against the idea of a lifetime union not too long ago?

I know there are plenty of folks who met/got married/stayed married after knowing each other for a relatively short amount of time pre-wedding. But Clooney just seems like he had this 180 degree change of heart recently. Which can fall apart quickly when reality sets in especially when people get comfortable with each other.

    • Ange says:

I agree! I can’t imagine going through all those relationship stages in such a short time. Besides, they are literally still in the honeymoon phase – they are always on romantic holidays and wedding planning – nothing would be real between these two yet.

  24. Dany says:

i am so sorry, but the stewardess/ airport employee in pic 1 looks like a character from Little Britain or better Come fly with me

  25. eve says:

by the number of comments, or lack of comments, it’s obvious few people even care about the old boy and his latest lady

there are so many younger guys, without george’s seedy rep, that are more interesting.

  26. vava says:

Hey, I think Venice would be fabulous! I like them and hope they have a fun wedding and a very happy marriage.

  27. Patty Cake says:

She looks cute in the blue jean ensemble minus the shoes. Definitely minus the shoes. The shoes are hurting my eyes. My poor eyes.

  28. Luna says:

The more I read about them, the more I dislike the girl. At first I felt she was kinda cool – different and intelligent for once! – but now… bleh.
