Last week, some of the gossip mags – including People Mag – claimed that Jennifer Lopez and Maksim Chmerkovskiy might be happening immediately following her split from Casper Smart. I thought it was possible – after all, J.Lo hates to be alone, she can’t go one month without a boyfriend, and she does love those backup dancers, doesn’t she? Many of you pointed out in the comments that J.Lo denied the Maks rumors on Twitter. Sure. I mean, if you were J.Lo and you were banging another backup dancer, wouldn’t you deny it too? Anyway, I thought at the time that the rumors helped Maksim and he might have even been the one to spread them. But – hold your laughter – Maksim wants us to know that he thought the media coverage was a real turnoff. O RLY?!?!
The romance between Jennifer Lopez and Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be over before it got started.
Sources say Maks, traveling in India till Wednesday, has been spooked by all the media attention the budding relationship received.
“It would be a turnoff to anyone,” said a spy. “It’s already gotten too over-the-top.”
The couple met at a recent awards show and were seen together soon after. But J.Lo, who just split with Casper Smart, seems over it, too, and tweeted that she’s not dating anyone new.
Dear Maksim: Shh! Don’t speak. If the rumors are BS, so be it. But don’t drop quotes into Page Six acting like you’re SO freaked out about the rumors. Maksim has seemed hellbent on dating the most high-profile women he can find for years, and for the most part, those women are C-listers on Dancing With the Stars (one exception: Kate Upton, who probably has terrible taste in men). I know y’all hate on J.Lo, but really – being associated with her only helps a guy like Maksim.

I always thought the Kate-Maksim match was a PR set up. Never believed it. he appeared when he fauxmance with PDiddy imploded.
She probably banged him but he doesn’t seem like someone she can control easily, even with his gold digging/fame digging ways.
And he seems a bit too old for her ( going by her last bf ).
He is probably bitter.

He was for as long as they danced together. They both denied it and nothing was ever really confirmed. They had great chemistry, but that may be because they are both great dancers or because spending all your free time being close and sweaty together creates that environment.

Hi attitude totally ruins any hotness (his brother is cuter anyway). I get the impression he’d be the type to plant rumours to increase his profile. I think he’s done with DWTS and a man’s gotta eat, so what’s his next move? High profile.
I kinda want her back with Ben that would make the gossip world implode! But I bet the contract couldn’t be worked out and he’s mad… Mad Max. Ckearly , I’m bored and avoiding getting ready for my last day at work.

It “helps” them in some ways, but we all rip on these guys. It’s not like we’re saying “Oh gee! They’re incredible! They must be a good match for JLo!”
We call them her kept men, and completely mock them. It’s good for exposure, but that’s about it.
Hard matching up JLo with anyone famous. Anyone in the public eye would have a hard time dealing with her narcissism/meshuggos – hence the choice of Caspar. Watch for a similar type replacement – young and not too successful – except this one will be hetero.
This guy comes to my area once year for Dancing with Desire, a charity event at a local arts center. I have friends that are involved in the event each year and know him, (and many of the other dancers), personally. He’s a douche, from what I’ve heard. But I do think it’s great for them to help out Children in Crisis, and I don’t give a poo who he dates.
Rumors of a romance with JLO are too “over-the-top” for him? Wow. If those two massive egos do mate, we may all be turned to pillars of salt.
I don’t really hate her, I just hate her taste in men and her never-changing look but other than that I quite like her, lol.

Maksim Chmerkovsky needs no help with his career from J.Lo!! And he’s not a back-up dancer. He’s an amazing dancer known for his excellent partnering skills on Dancing with the Stars. Any of the millions of people who watch that shows can tell you who he is. He may be a douche, as aenflex says, I don’t know. But he’s got major skills and if you love to ballroom dance, I can’t imagine anyone turning him down. How he is in the sack? Who knows? Personally, I think *he* can do better than Lopez, not the other way around.
He’s also choreographed some Vegas shows, owns four dance studios in New York, has a production company related to dance, and does his own choreography and dance on DWTS. I’m sure he won many awards before the show. He’s doing great for 34 and It’s tacky to reduce him to a back-up dancer like Chris Judd and Casper, who got elevated when hooked to her. He’s too much of his own diva and on his own career path to be J-LO’s flunky.
That struck me too. But this site seems to have very little respect for dancers, if they are dating celebrities. Benjamin Millepied, who is at the pinnacle of a very competitive field as a principal at NYC Ballet and now head of Paris Opera, was reduced to being ballet’s K-Fed. It’s depressing–no one says this about athletes… Maks is a respected expert in his field, even though it’s not movies/pop music doesn’t mean it didn’t take hard work and talent to get where he is.
Totally agree. About Millepied as well. I think, unfortunately, not too many people know about the people working at the highest level of dance, art, opera, classical music and literature as they do about the pop music and the entertainment worlds. There’s lots to know that doesn’t show up on TV or the internet. Sigh.
i’m convinced she had her chest done in the last few yrs since the kids. They hang more centered now and seem slightly bigger. They did a good job.

I am a fan of Maksim now! After catching him and the Olympic medalist Meryl Davis, I think he showed an incredible amount of awe and respect for her. They were really amazing to watch as dancers, and I got the feeling that he felt he’d met his true match, female-wise. They are the couple I hope that willhappen (or at least open up a franchise of dance studios across the country!)

Ahem. Confession here. I was a dancer for several years (not pro like Maks, by any means) and I agree with @Jayna. In his field, he is accomplished, and owns his own studios. Although he is jerk, I can’t in my wildest dreams equate him with Slum Munchkin in any way. He is a talented person in his own right. And a jerk. But the man is one hell of a dancer. And a jerk.
Will you please stop calling him a backup dancer! WTF he danced with her ONCE and now he’s a backup dancer? I’m sorry but if he was a male model or athlete with the same level of success this whole article would have a different tone. I think that is what that statement is getting at, he wouldn’t want to date someone like JLo because it brings a lot of negative stuff his way. Look at how he is treated here, rather than taking ten seconds to learn something about the guy you take the three things you know (he’s on DWTS, he danced w/ JLo and he dated Kate Upton) and twist that into a story. Any work he put into his career or image over the past 10 years gets flushed down the toilet the second you reduce him to backup dancer. This story makes all parties look bad.

Yep, a lot of us do hate on Jlo, that’s true, but only because she’s not the nicest person in the world. I seriously doubt that she and someone like Maxim could coexist together because she’s extremely strong-willed and pushy, and he has about the same reputation. Those two would not last long. With Casper Smart, JLo had the upper hand big time, which is what she likes. She needs to be the boss and Casper was her dough boy. But with a more mature man who already has his career in place, they would have to deal with her self-centered and controlling behavior.
