Kanye West ranted about Jay Pharoah’s VMA skit, Kanye claims he’s ‘not a joke’

wenn21464290

OMG. I foretold this. I am a seer. I can predict future gossip. Remember last week when I said I was shocked that Kanye West hadn’t gifted all of us with some kind of rant about Jay Pharoah’s Yeezus impersonation at the VMAs? Yeah, it happened. It just happened later than I was expecting. To recap, here is what Jay Pharoah did at the VMAs:

Get More:
2014 VMA, Artists.MTV, Music

I actually wrote last week: “I actually wondered if we were going to get some kind of Yeezus rant about this, something about #nodisrespecttoBenAffleck but Jay Pharoah wouldn’t know artistic genius if it ran over to him in leather jeggings and a bejweled Maison Martin Margiela mask.” Guess what?! YES.

No joke here. Kanye West admitted to the crowd during a series of rants at the Made in America festival in Philadelphia on Saturday, Aug. 30, that he confronted comedian Jay Pharoah after his spoof at the 2014 MTV VMAs.

“They want to make a joke out of how hard we work,” Kim Kardashian’s husband said while on stage at the Jay Z hosted event referring to Pharoah and one of South Park’s recent spoofs. “It’s fine and all funny and everything, but don’t distract from our vision. It’s not a joke what we do up here. This music that we do is not a joke. What we do culturally is not a joke.”

The rapper went on to tell the crowd that he called Pharoah after the SNL actor’s skit went down at the Aug. 24 award show. “I called Jay Pharoah right after the MTV awards,” West said. “I said, ‘I appreciate your show, but let me tell you about my story. Let me tell you about what I went through to get to that position’ … So we ain’t gonna have no black comedians going onstage spoofing the people that’s working hard, and helping the next man out.”

North West’s dad’s rant also included his relationship with Kardashian.

“For me to be in a very publicized interracial relationship is not a joke,” he told the crowd of his new marriage. “It’s something that should be treated with respect cause we’re all in this together.”

[From Us Weekly]

Kanye continued:

Imma let you finish Jay Pharaoh but you gotta know that what I mean to the universe, man, like the damn cosmos, it is so beyond who you are and whatever you’re trying to do because only, like, Hologram Steve Jobs and #NodisrespecttoTupac really understand the next-level truth bunker buster surgical strikes that I’m dropping on CULTURE, brah. It’s about racial truths and leather jeggings and my bejeweled Maison Martin Margiela mask is more important than Martin Luther King Junior because I am the next moment, the next movement in civil rights, me, Yeezus, of the Kanyeezies. Y’all need to stop making fun of my style because style is the new voting rights and you can just ask Carine Roitfeld about that sh-t. Respect. But I’m not a joke, man. I AM THE BEJEWELED COSMOS.

Learning to laugh at yourself is one of the most freeing things in the entire world. Maybe Kanye should pursue that ability as well.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree, tifzlan. He takes himself SO seriously. Too bad no one else does.

    • Eleonor says:

      True.

    • doofus says:

Yeezus, he really needs to GET OVER IT.

the reason people make so much fun of his seriousness and g-d complex is BECAUSE he has no sense of humor and people know they’ll get a reaction like this.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Exactly, and the thing is–Kanye IS a joke now. He’s been a punchline for quite some time now. I love how the article calls him “Kim Kardashian’s husband”. Yup, that about sums it up.

      • Stef Leppard says:

EXACTLY!!! Kanye, you are married to Kim kardashian!! How the eff do you expect people to take you seriously? You ARE a joke!

      • Dani2 says:

Yup, I used to really love his music and I loves him after he made that statement about George Bush on live TV and didn’t care what peoples reactions would be. But these days, I can’t even appreciate his music because all I can see is his inflated ego and inability to laugh at himself.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        Does he like fish sticks?
He’s been a joke for a long time now!

      • Tiffany :) says:

…so I did some research, and the South Park episode Fishsticks about Kanye not being able to take a joke was done in 2009! He has spent far too much of his life being humorless. What a sad way to live.

    • Melanie says:

I swear, no one cares about them being an interracial couple more than Kanye himself. SHUT THE HELL UP DUDE!

      • Trillion says:

Agreed. I, for one, have never even considered that aspect of them. I just think of them as wasteful, style-free, greedy, horrible, entitled jackasses. Who happen to be married.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

He just uses that as an excuse, hey Jay, what are you doing, remember the cause. Kanye is a self-interested waste of space and he and his wife are jokes. They contribute nothing worthwhile to society, his delusions not withstanding.

      • Sassy says:

In addition Ms Kim had quite a few black boyfriends plus a half black husband and one black husband prior to settling down with Kanye. Her sister Khloe married a black man. The youngest sister has a black boyfriend (or just friend). Robert Kardashian, the father, was best friends with OJ Simpson. Kanye now thinks he invented the bi racial couple. Bizarre.

    • Pandy says:

Perfectly said and oh so true!

  2. MonicaQ says:

You may not be a joke, but you are most certainly an ass.

  3. Talie says:

    OMG…poor Jay.

But his Paris apartment on KUWTK last night was kind of amazing. Minimalist perfection.

  4. Eleonor says:

    ” Kim Kardashian’s husband said”
    that says it all.

  5. Abbott says:

I love how this excerpt from the article barely mentions Kanye by name; “Kim Kardashian’s husband” and “North West’s dad.”

How long do you think that phone call to Jay Pharoah lasted while Khloe Kardashian’s brother-in-law regaled him with his life story and how he discovered plutonium? Poor Jay.

  6. QQ says:

He is such a Sensitive Butthurt type! Ugh!! Is super unnatractive! Was he always like this or just after he became a Kardashian and started rankling at being part of a family that is the exact opposite of everything Conscious Kanye (and Donda) valued?

    • MonicaQ says:

Truly when he lost his mother is when he went off the fails. I think she’d shake her head at all of this being an educated woman aka the exact opposite of KK.

    • minime says:

He was always like that, the combination with Kim just makes him more insufferable than the usual, specially since she and her family represent a lot of what he used to criticize…or maybe not, probably I just never got his amazingly bigger than life cosmic message.

      • MonicaQ says:

Personal opinion incoming, do not take for sociological value: I think it was because he was actually *not* super “Oh look at my guns I’m so hood” rap that set him apart. It was “hey, middle class black people (because they exist which is something mainstream rap ignores) can actually identify with his struggle to make it on non-illegal terms”. In THAT sense, he was new and different and praised for it, but now the Kardashian husband has become wrapped up in that moniker, blanketed himself in that praise for “Graduation” and other older albums and thinks he can do no wrong.

He’s become drunk on his own now archaic success and the younger crowd ( like my brother and his friends–they’re 20) eats up his “Screw popular opinion, I do what I want it’s not bad to speak your mind I’m different” schtick.

      • Danskins says:

I miss “College Dropout” & “Graduation” Kanye 🙁

      • MonicaQ says:

@ Danskins — I think we all do /slow head shake.

  7. Wallamalooo says:

**Bows down to Kaiser** Crying with laughter!

  8. Kali says:

Something tells me that photo of Jay Pharaoh was taken after the call from Kanye. Poor man looks like he’s seen/heard some things and he will never be the same again.

  9. Josephine says:

My favorite part is when he said he “went through” something to get to his current “position.” What a privileged little brat. Great men are humble. Great men do not need to declare their greatness. And great men certainly do not admit to marrying a “product” so that they can increase their own fame by being associated with the infamous.

    • minime says:

Hey! He went through a lot!! Really!! Do you see his life?? He had to marry a c-list reality tv/selfmade pr0nstar for the sake of the art! He’s taking one for the team society!

  10. Nerdmomma says:

Haha I love Jay. I’d love to know how he handled that phone call. Hope there’s a Kanye skit on the next SNL

    • doofus says:

oh, that would be GOLD. SNL had Pesci and DeNiro on for Jim Bruer’s “Joe Pesci Show” and it was great…but clearly, Pesci and DeNiro have a sense of humor so it worked.

they need to do “Kanye” telling Jay Pharaoh off, but with yet another person doing the Kanye part. like with South Park…if the person they’re mocking gets upset, they do it all over again, ten times worse.

    • Eleonor says:

I think he handled it like I would: leaving the phone in another room an letting Yeezus talking alone.

    • Size Does Matter says:

I hope the next time Jay hits the stage it is as Kanye. Dude must have a serious backache from carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders all the time.

    • SpookySpooks says:

Jay’s Kanye and Nasim’s Kim are awesome. They had a skit called Kardashian Divorec Special and it was hilarious. Vanessa Bryant was especially funny as Kourtney.

  11. MrsBPitt says:

I don’t think Kanye has one iota of humor in him! Only a very insecure person cannot laugh at himself! I also think its odd that he constantly mentions that he and Kim are an interacial couple…like they are first…its not that unusual anymore…its not unusal at all, as a matter of fact! And I love when Jay does Kanye….he is sooooo good at it…lol

  12. TX says:

Yikes he is delusional. Sorry Kanye, you are a joke.

  13. daisyfly says:

So when is this toddler going to take his ball and go home?

  14. OriginallyBlue says:

Ugh, he’s so insufferable. I feel sorry for Jay having to take that call. I probably would have put the phone down and walked away.

    • jwoolman says:

When someone starts ranting on a phone, the best thing to do is to just quietly cut off the call. Don’t announce you’re going to do it, don’t give any warning, just do it. Otherwise they just escalate. That’s not being rude, it’s just not cooperating with bad behavior. Kanye is manic a lot of the time now. It’s wrong to encourage him.

Of course in Jay’s case- he was collecting a lot of good material for his next Kanye routine…

  15. Ag says:

does he use the royal “we,” or is he talking about himself and someone else? kim?

  16. KinChicago says:

    #dumb@ss

  17. dorothy says:

Ummm, yes Kanye, you are a joke. So is your wife.

  18. Hannah says:

I can’t stand the way he talks about being in an inter racial marriage like him and Kim are the first people to do that and it’s such a plight. My grand parents were in an inter racial marriage in the 60s. Back then it was difficult but It isn’t even unusual anymore. Kim always dated black guys so did Khloe, he acts like he broke new ground.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

I can guarantee you my white mother and middle eastern father had a much harder time when they married in 1958 than anything Kim and Kanye have ever faced.

  19. aquarius64 says:

    Dear Kanye,

You officially became a joke when you said “I do” to Kim Kardashian.

    Signed,

    The World.

  20. Skins says:

Dude, when you married Kim K. you forever became a joke. Live with it

  21. Jenna says:

All this just makes me think of the song “Kanye” and the ‘I want someone to love me as much as Kanye loves Kanye’. And then I laugh at it all. 🙂

  22. joy says:

Yes I’m sure interracial couples from 50 years ago totally get your struggle Kanye.

  23. Pri says:

That ‘I’m not a joke” line was just too funny… Yea riiiight dude.

  24. word says:

Yeah well Kim, Kendall, and Kylie laughed at the jokes. If he doesn’t want people to take him as a joke, maybe he should stop his rants. No one was making fun of his musical talent…they were making fun of the crazy crap he says and how he expects the world to bow down to Kim. Puh lease. Oh and someone please tell Kimye that they are not the first interracial couple…though he acts like they are. Shut up !

So did he yell at Kim for laughing at those jokes ?

    • TX says:

Yes, thats the thing he is missing. Nobody was making fun of him until his ego went out of control. I think everyone was in agreement that he was a very good rapper with a new perspective…but now, he’s so into being a “god” when he is not even the best rapper alive today, let alone the best ever, let alone a GOD.

And I dont think anyone should take issue about him feeling like Kim hung the moon. You should feel that way about the person you marry. But, again, where it goes left for them is his insisting that shes the new Marilyn and all that..no dude, shes a p0rn star turned reality star.

      • word says:

I agree, all husbands should swoon over their wives, but you shouldn’t get upset and angry if the world doesn’t swoon over her too.

      • Tiffany :) says:

He is letting his ego overshadow his music. That is a big error, especially for his legacy.

  25. Suzanne says:

Guess what Kanye…YOU ARE A JOKE!

  26. sorene says:

“Jay Pharoah wouldn’t know artistic genius if it ran over to him in leather jeggings and a bejweled Maison Martin Margiela mask” : I laughed soooo hard at his!! XD

But seriously, Kanye is not just a jackass, I genuinely think he has a severe form of megalomania, the kind that needs therapy.

  27. Red32 says:

I’m imagining Kanye ranting over speakerphone while an entire room of people laugh hysterically.

  28. Sumodo1 says:

I predict that within one year, Kayne will be in a treatment facility.

  29. kri says:

Oops, sorry T.I. The real Emperor of Egypt is here and he wants his double crown back. Wait til you meet his wife, Kleopatra. She’a got a HUGE asp. Really Kantye..don’t take yourself so seriously-no one else does.

  30. The Original Mia says:

That’s too funny. Kanye is butthurt because someone said what we’re all thinking. You are a joke and an ass, so no lies were told.

Jay should have put that call on mute and left because you know Kanye didn’t come up for air and wouldn’t notice there was no sound coming from the other end.

  31. denisemich says:

I think Kanye says things the wrong way and in the wrong forums. However, I don’t think the message was incorrect. I don’t think people of color support each other when we should. At times, I think we try to cash in on each other.

Why did MTV allow Jay to make fun of only Kanye during the VMA’s? It was mean and it was meant to cause drama. If Kanye had attended the VMA’s, all hell would have broken loose.

Kanye has won 21 grammy awards. He is not just married to Kim Kardashian or the father of North West. It is meant to demoralize him. That is the game that is played to diminish people .

    • word says:

He made fun of Jay-Z as well. He is good at doing Kanye and Jay-Z impersonations and has done them on SNL numerous times. If it wasn’t funny, why did Kim laugh so hard?

    • Josephine says:

Do you really want people of color to be immune from being the butt of a joke at a major forum? Frankly, if you are being mocked, you’ve made it as a figure famous enough to be mocked. I don’t think it would do anyone any good to claim that a certain group of people are off-limits when it comes to joking, except when it comes to the truly vulnerable, like kids. But a grown adult with a huge career, famous friends, a forum to respond, and a well-developed ego?

    • Jane says:

There are people of all races who are jokes, why is he immune? Because he is black and the guy making fun of him is black? No one deserves support who acts like he does, no matter what his race. The man has a martyr complex for no reason other than to get attention. His behavior serves him well because here we are talking about him and that is what he after anyway.

Kanye feelings are hurt, but the truth hurts and that is what he will never admit. Nobody around tell him the truth (or they would be gone) so it takes someone who doesn’t give a flying puck to tell him about himself.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

Wouldn’t not making jokes about him because of his skin be racist? Are you saying there should be a list of black people that black comics should not joke about? Supporting someone is not about their color, it’s about deciding if this person is someone you want to support, regardless of gender or skin color or anything else. People should be judged on their own merit, just as MLK suggested.

  32. Stèf. says:

Can he shut up? Honestly, does he pay attention to what absolute bs he lets come out of his mouth? He has little impact culturally, for goodness sake he’s married to a Kardashian (they aren’t praised). And does he assume that he’s the ONLY CELEB to be in an interracial relationship? Or the first for that matter? My boyfriend is White/Asian and I’m BLACK, yet you don’t see me blabbering nonsense about it every second.
He gets on my nerves, sorry.

  33. Dawn says:

Vanessa Williams great-great grandmother was white and married to black man in upstate N.Y. way back in the civil war, so sorry Kanye but other people have had interracial marriages long before you were even thought of. Give it a rest dude.

  34. Jayna says:

Poor Kanye. I notice Jay-Z didn’t whine about the comic.

  35. Jane says:

Kanye, you are a joke, a really bad, sad joke. Any amount of prejudice you encounter because of your marriage is nothing compared to what others endured paving the way for you to become an entitled, egotistical, delusional singer. Stop whining, nobody cares.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

What prejudice? These two live in a well-insulated bubble of privilege, they’re not suffering anything but each other’s company.

  36. Deedee says:

I have to admit, i was pretty amused as to how hard Kendall was laughing. Kim kept looking at her, wondering if she thinks Kanye is a joke, too!

  37. dorothy says:

Comedians are openly mocking him. If the idiot hasn’t realized what a joke him and Kim are by now, he never will.

  38. L says:

Why does he always point out that him and Kim are in an interracial relationship, as if that’s what’s so controversial about them and that’s why people ridicule them? No one’s talking about the color of their skin, if they were both of the same race people would still find them just as ridiculous as they do now.

  39. EscapedConvent says:

So Kanye’ s not a joke? Yet everywhere he goes, we laugh.

Anyone who goes onstage with a crystal mask covering his head, who doesn’t realize he’s ridiculous, should probably…..be sedated.

  40. Bridget says:

Its like its slowly dawning on him that he became the punchline a while back. Really, it doesn’t matter how much you spend – there’s just no returning from a gold toilet tower.

  41. Marybel says:

Ye…ye the biggest joke in the world. THERE’S your superlative.

  42. mux says:

Wow. Just wow. He is equating himself to the COSMOS?!

No God complex on this guy is there?

Until Kanye West starts healing the sick and diverting hurricanes he is nothing more than a bejeweled gay fish.
