I’ll admit it: I’m a grown-ass woman and I flat-out loved Pitch Perfect. I actually saw it in theaters!! I loved it because it could have gone off the rails in so many ways, but it’s actually a really well-constructed movie with really strong performances all around. Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson got a lot of notice for the film, but Anna Camp, Brittany Snow and Alexis Knapp all turned in great ensemble performances too. And good news – they’re all back for the Pitch Perfect 2!!
The first film was produced by Elizabeth Banks, who is now on-deck as director for the sequel. This is Banks’ first film as a director, and she told Entertainment Weekly: “This is the stupidest idea I’ve ever had. My first movie is this huge studio movie that a lot of people care about that also happens to be a musical with massive dance numbers. I don’t know what I was thinking.” The sequel also adds some more ladies to the mix, with Hailee Steinfeld joining the Bellas, plus Hailee’s mom played by Katey Sagal. You can read more about the sequel here and here. Here is the trailer:
It looks great, right? Mean German a Capella singers! David Cross! Elizabeth Banks laughing about how every other country hates America! I love that Banks set out to produce films for actresses and she actually succeeded. And now she’s doubling down. And it’s awesome. While I doubt Pitch Perfect 2 is going to make crazy Marvel money, I’m sure this film will do well and perhaps even be a sleeper hit.

It reminds me of “Beerfest”.
OMG I LOVE BEERFEST. Also: SuperTroopers.
Anna Kendrick is my absolute favorite actress. I feel like she is so underrated. She is insanely talented, and so adorable. I cannot wait for this movie!!!
I really love her. And Adam Devine. So I’ll have to see it, regardless.
Adam Devine is adorable. Lovely to watch in pretty much anything, and such amazing comedic timing. I’d be so curious to find out if he also had some dramatic acting chops.
I think she’s my/our generation’s Amy Adams. I don’t think she’ll ever be huge, but she will be that actress that has a bajillion Oscar noms, and is universally liked for just being a great actress.
Even though I really like Amy Adams and think she is crazy talented, I like Anna Kendrick even more. I agree Kendrick may never win the Oscar (and Adams may never be a winner either), but I think Kendrick will always be loved and remembered by millions, like a cutie patootie Lucille Ball.
Agreed! I love Anna Kendrick. I wish Hollywood would have more for Rebel Wilson to do…she is also pretty awesome!!
I love all of the women in this movie. So going to see it! Gotta support my spirit sisters.
I’ve watched the trailer several times already, as a grown ass woman I CANNOT wait to see this! A few friends and I are planning to make a night of it, have dinner, watch the first one together again and then see the sequal.
That sounds like fun! I’m inviting myself; hope you don’t mind.
I’m coming too. 😉
Loved No1. I love Elizabeth Banks.
I’m a late comer to Elizabeth Banks. I think she’s hilarious and I loved her talking about “micro penises” on Jimmy Kimmel.
What was her accapella group’s name in the movie?? The Menstrual Cycles? Ha! That line made me laugh like crazy!
Can’t wait!!!!
Looks great! Can’t wait! Not enough Brittney Snow in the trailer though. She was a highlight of the first one.
I can’t get the trailer to play, but I’m looking forward to this. I guess I’d forgotten that Elizabeth was directing – that makes me definitely want to go to the theaters and support the movie!
I am beyond stoked for this movie. I know every word to the first and I’m sure I will end up that way for the decond. And I am BEYOND excited for another riff-off!
I can’t wait! I really enjoyed the first one. I know this is going to sound weird but I love they didnt photoshop the smile “wrinkles” on Brittnay Snows face. They actually look normal and beautiful ! Normally you never see expression or any little line so it’s a nice change.
YES for Elizabeth Banks directing (and producing). I love her.
oh gosh. i completely missed the first one. and if the second one ever comes my way, you bet i’m gonna be that embarrassing choir mom in the corner.
my kids will be hiding under seats and trying not to look toward the doorway where their mother will have just been hauled out by security.
Can’t wait! Didn’t see the first in a theater- won’t make that mistake again!
Yet ANOTHER grown ass woman here who is super excited for this sequel!
I didn’t think that the first movie was anything special or great. The whole vomiting thing was ridiculous, for example. And by ridiculous I mean stupid.
Yes, I couldn’t agree more! I love Anna Kendrick and singing and thought the film nice, but the vomiting stuff was disgusting and totally overdone. Spoilt the whole movie for me.
I liked the first one because of the singing and Rebel’s character, but didn’t think the movie was a masterpiece either. Lots of eye roll side plots.
As I almost made myself sick from laughing so hard in the movies at the first movie, I will be stoked if it’s even 10% as funny as the original.
*gets on soapbox briefly*
If you don’t normally go see movies at the cinema and this looks like it might be your cup of tea, please please please go see it in cinema (opening weekend if you’re able to make it). Studios look at the numbers very closely and if they’re able to see that a female director has made a movie that will make the opening weekend money AND it continues to have solid turnout/solid legs in the cinema for a while, they’re much more likely to take a chance on another female director/(mostly) female cast/”female” story/storyline.

THANK YOU, Kali!!!!!!!!!
I like it when you get on your soapbox, Kali. 🙂
Awesome point. Cannot wait to see the next one!
I can’t wait to see it with my 20 year old daughter. We loved the first one. Yes, Kali, we’ll see it in a movie theater. 🙂
I love Pitch Perfect and so do all my friends. We saw it in the theater and the whole place laughed from start to finish. So I’m excited for the sequel…esp since I have the first one memorized at this point.
Also who loves the new Cups rendition? I like the new take on it!
I will be first in line to see this! The first one was hilarious the first time, but man, it gets funnier every time!
Can’t wait, looks awesome!!! I’m sure Elizabeth did a great job.
Missed the first film in the theaters, watched it months later at home and my husband and I could not believe how amazing it was. For two weeks afterwards, I’d sometimes catch him listening to a song from the riff-off. I put several of the song numbers on my tumblr. LOVE Pitch Perfect. LOVE IT.
I am beyond excited for PP2 and this time we will definitely buy tickets for opening night.
And Flula will be in it!!! Love Flula!!
Even better than the sequel itself is the fact that half of the starting line-up for the Green Bay Packers are making an appearance in this movie. I cant wait!!!!!

OMG I know Clay Matthews *swoon*
YES!!!!
I’ve never seen so much teeth in my life.
Please please please please let the sequel be good!
I missed it in the theaters. Saw it while snowed in in February and loved it. The sequel looks good. I’ll be there.
I can’t wait. I loved the first so much and laughed so hard at the trailer. Rebel sledding down the stairs is hilarious!
Love, love, love the first one. Can’t wait for the second! Just disappointed that they cut Donald from the second film. He was one of my absolute faves.
I am very excited for this movie and I will definitely see it.
However, I am totally over the Cups song.
