Duchess Kate, William & Harry joined Twitter finally: what does this mean?

FFN_Middleton_William_GGFF_120914_51603876

Duchess Kate and Prince William’s new (Yank) press officer is really changing things up. Sort of. First of all, Kate and William aren’t on vacation, which is amazing. Some of you think that Kate will probably go to Mustique with her family towards the end of the month, after she’s done a handful of events. You’re probably right. But I really am amazed that she didn’t go on vacation for her birthday.

Next, their Yankee press guy has made the younger royals more accessible on social media. Clutch your pearls, go ahead. Kensington Palace is now on Twitter! It used to be that Charles’ office, Clarence House, tweeted out anything to do with the younger royals. But now Will, Kate and Harry’s press office is going to control the younger royals’ online media. You can find the account here, @KensingtonRoyal.

What does this mean? Not much. I mean, it’s not like Duchess Kate is going to be live-tweeting the BAFTAs, unfortunately. It’s the press office controlling the account and it’s just going to be used to put more of a focus on what the younger royals are up to with their charities, etc. Maybe we’ll finally learn more about Kate’s private meetings?

Speaking of, Kate was in London yesterday and she got photographed out on a shopping excursion. Apparently, this wasn’t just a quick stop in a boutique though. Kate spent an hour in John Lewis (a department store) with some security guys and “Kate carried all of her own bags and they did not look light.” You can see the photos here. She wore a white coat and had her hair in a ponytail. She looked super-serious too. Shopping is a serious business for Kate. She’s a marathon shopper.

More pictures of George, I hope.

  2. Jaded says:

    “Updates on the Cambridge’s work”????

    *Sound of crickets…*

    • Pixelated says:

Lol @jaded. SEE everyone, LOOK how HIP and ACCESSIBLE they are!

      • qwerty says:

That’s what it is. Daily fail recently run an article where they counted how many days each royal worked in the past year. This is their PR trying to make them look like they’re doing something.

  3. HH says:

I always get surprised about how “hard” Kate’s face can look in candid pictures. It’s not a pregnancy tired. She really looks strained, even when she’s not carrying future princes.

    • zinjojo says:

Does she smoke? (I think I’ve read that before…) She looks like a smoker, and even if she’s not while she’s pregnant, it is still aging.

      • Seriously serious says:

She isn’t really happy, that is my guess. I have never really seen an honest smile on Kate’s face.

      • Jaded says:

Yup, she’s a committed smoker – I think Wills enjoys the odd ciggie too.

      • FLORC says:

        Seriously serious
Kate’s fake smiles from genuine smiles are easily spotted. She has genuine smiles with family, at sporting activities, and things of that nature. If her genuine smile is day her forced smile is night. They’re that different.
A while ago the science behind this was discussed and there was a bbc (i think) website with gifs to see if you can spot the real from fake.

        Zinjojo
She’s been seen smoking and carrying cigs. Harry and William as well. Though Kate’s skin has never been really great. Sun, low body fat, cigs, and maybe dehydration certainly make it worse. Genetics play a role as well. Carole and Pippa have hard features as well.
Though Kate’s features do appear to soften with the extra weight. She appears healthier.

    • Hazel says:

Yeah, I found the contrast between photoshopped Kate & natural Kate to be very interesting. And that’s about it on her, I think.

  4. The Original Mia says:

    Isn’t Harry already on Twitter?

Good luck, Yank PR guy making the Lamebridges more accessible and real. You have your work cut out for you.

There’s no doubt in my mind Kate & George will be in Mystique by the end of the month to celebrate Carol’s 60th. That’s the only reason Kate’s working during this month. Gotta make the Duchess appear hard-working and concerned.

  5. DogMom says:

My guess is those pics are what the ‘real Kate’ looks like…tired and in need of a color touch up. Not the ‘perfect elegant Princess of Princessyness’ that we all know in love / loathe.

    • Pippa Mid says:

Looks tired aged and p…… !

Don’t like Orders to return to KP – appear at an event or two before Mystique (or NO Mystique).

      • Megan says:

Mystique is an X-Mex character. If she had Mystique’s super powers she’d never get caught shopping.

    • Olenna says:

For a second there I thought it was Carole.

@King Harry and Prince George events.

    • Hazel says:

Yep, I thought the same thing. We probably all did.

  6. zinjojo says:

The new PR guy is at work! I think they’ll use to try to give the impression that W&K spend a lot of time with their charitable work, especially given the reaction to how little either of them worked last year. Plus a few happy family photos and tidbits to make them seem personable and accessible (ha). And they’re pulling in Harry because he’s so much more likeable and actually seems to care about his work.

    • Curious Cole says:

I hate that they’re trying to drag hardworking Harry down with them. I wonder how he feels about the Cambridge’s lack of work ethic?

      • Citresse says:

PR is working overtime. One of the big headlines today called Kate’s shopping trip “rare.”

  8. scout says:

And no Twitter for the baby bump? Bummer… well…little George will do for now.

  9. HoustonGrl says:

It’s just so weird…two adults who literally do nothing all day AND have a full staff of people to look after them. And please, spare me the lecture on their “charitable” work, which is limited and self-serving at best.

    • JF says:

I completely agree! I can’t understand why there isn’t more of a fuss about how much the taxpayers spend on their staff when they never work. Also- are the taxpayers paying for the new PR guy? If so, that’s kind of lame- they don’t work, so they use taxpayers’ money to hire a PR guy to try to make them look better when all they would need to do to improve their image is to start working regularly!

  10. Jacqueline says:

I have a Twitter!! Royals!! They’re JUST LIKE US! Haha

  11. vauvert says:

Kate just lost her serios shopper card as far as I am concerned. One hour?? I barely finish one department properly in one hour (more if it’s shoes…)

    • Lucky Charm says:

IKR?! One hour is just a quick run into the store. She probably ordered online and just went in to pick up all her packages. Unless the Brits just have a different idea then we do of what a serious shopper is.

  12. Reece says:

New PRDude is hitting the ground running. Weelllll…I reserve judgement as my expectations are categorically low for two of those people. You would thought it would have been done a while ago but as their previous PR was lacking…

That woman (I assume) on twitter that’s forever hating them is gonna have a ball now.

  13. Megan says:

It’s going to take more than a Twitter account to pivot the message from Andrew. At this point I think handing the new guy a Go Pro and telling him to shadow George is their best bet. I’m sure Lupo wants the world to know the truth.

    • ArtHistorian says:

The Lupo Diaries – the truth behind the Palace doors!

    • wolfpup says:

I believe that all the publicity is meant to fluff the royal family, at a time where Andrew blew it. In the DM there are more assorted stories about George, the Cambridges, Harry…and will continue, with whatever they think work.

Bill Clinton just kind of rolled over and said sorry, eventually, although of course, his dalliance was with a fully grown woman.

I bet we’ll see a lot more of this couple, to divert attention away from the real story – the survival of the brand, which is The House of Windsor. It kind of makes me sick the way that they use people in this way – I wonder that people want to see them at all. Times change, and Sarah’s trip to the US, to plead her case for Andrew (and her diets), cannot work – people are not fools.

      • Hazel says:

I’m astonished at often celebs like Sarah (and that’s what she is now) can repeat their ‘I lost this much on this diet’ spiels. This is what? The fourth go-round for Sarah? Fifth? And her books say nothing people don’t already know–eat sensibly, exercise, weight comes off. Although yes, I agree, part of her spiel right now is defending Andrew, although coming from a woman who once tried to sell access to Andrew, that doesn’t carry much weight.

  14. Lucky Charm says:

So now that they’re on Twitter, does that mean they’re also going to actually start working?

I do have to say, though, that Duchess Kate does have good coat game. I have serious coat envy!

  15. MinnFinn says:

In the shopping photo, it’s obvious she’s been hitting her tanning bed. You can tell it’s not spray-on tan. She is going to Mustique soon. Anyone on Celebitchy want to bet a pair of corkswoon wedges in their size? But before you bet against me. Know that when I win, I want a $395 gift card for Stuart Weitzman or whatever the retail price is for those things.

    • Citresse says:

Is it safe for pregnant women to use tanning beds? I would guess no.

    • Pippa Mid says:

Either way – keep the wedges 😉 –
      50/ 50 Mystique – Waity yes, but
PG Tips too valuable with current alerts) – remain at KP with loving nanny Maria.

  16. MinnFinn says:

BRF also released list of gifts received during official overseas travel today. I think there’s a new twist in that this is a quarterly list. I believe it used to be annual? Also, the Cambridges list includes all of the gifts they received from individuals during their NYC trip. I don’t recall seeing those included before. http://www.princeofwales.gov.uk/media/documents Is this new prdude’s attempt at more transparency? Watering down the appearance of receiving so many extravagant gifts? Anyway, BP must have begun executing their 2015 ‘The Way Ahead’ strategic plan. (See 2011 Vanity Fair article about Prince Andrew for more about that annual January meeting.)

  17. Citresse says:

She’s an attractive woman but not aging well.

So much shopping and nothing regal to record.

Waity doolittle life and aging is sort of a marvel – looking at this person aging and has nothing to show of a life (a RF member), and on the other hand its as if several years is missing from her life (college days – now we are here – aging!) – strange speaking of someone close to HMs, grand regal RF, historical traditions and importance (yet nothing memorable regal or grand for history . (Except another regular person).

New PR making out more as celebs – in time we may have a ‘dazzle’ selfie.

  18. adtiu says:

It is funny how the headline makes it sound like she never shops “Rare Shopping Trip”
    Puhhlllsssseee

  19. Kata says:

What the hell she is still shopping for? Is that anything in the world she does not own already?
No I really want to know what is she buying all the time? Because isn’t grocery that is for sure!

    • MinnFinn says:

Kate’s existential view of her life ‘I shop therefore I am’.

    • Pippa Mid says:

      +1m

Waity ‘common’ hrh of P William lacks the value to HM BRF – and ignore that all the designers would break a leg to bring the store to KP for her selection.

What’s the use of having royalty – being royal, all the wealth, privilege and act regular (as in bargain shopping on Black Friday).

    • FLORC says:

      Retail therapy.
No real job or passion, absent husband, father in law’s plastic. Yea, shopping. The residences must all be renovated.

And to avoid people thinking i’m calling motherhood not a job. I’m not. For her she has loads of staffer for everything so there’s an exception here.

      • Citresse says:

Before the wedding of Kate and Will, when the Queen kept asking what’s Kate’s career? The reply should have been and can still be ” Retail; she’s a personal shopper.” And shrewdly leave out the part where she only shops for herself.

  20. Pippa Mid says:

Riding on King Harry’s coat tail!

P Willnot and Waity will be fully tired after this Twit feed. And already Waity got off to a shopping New Year – Mystique and busy schedule equals luxury vacay pronto due and recoup from carole middletons hangers Christmas invasion at AH,

Waity seem to have lighten/colour her hair with the bump seem lighter than last appearance.

And the workshys didn’t bother to support King Harry at the basketball charity event, CH/ SJames with Anthony.

    • Citresse says:

I think her last dye job is fading is all. Waity hope you use safe veg dyes for pregnancy. You can really see how grey.

  21. msthang says:

Personally I think she’s crying herself to sleep most nights and Billy has grown immune to it!

  22. Elizabeth R says:

Ok, is anyone else puzzled by the fact that she clearly put herself together to go shopping (great coat, bag, etc. – not a jeans & sweater kind of trip) but appears to be wearing some sort of random hair clip? Maybe I’m alone here, but it strikes me as something you wear while styling your hair or around the house but not out & about when you’re dressed like she is.

Second, has anyone seen the pics from this morning’s Art Room visit? I stared at the pics for a full 5 minutes, trying to understand what she was wearing. No luck.

    • Hazel says:

Yeah, I wondered what her day was like before her impromptu shopping trip. We know she likes casual wear & has plenty of jeans (even pregnancy jeans), so–what? Was she dressed for a staff meeting? Secret charity meeting? Then had to break to stop in at John Lewis & pick up what she ordered online? (I agree with others. Who can go in & out in an hour & call it shopping? Other than a man, that is.)
