Emily Blunt in red Emilio Pucci at the Critics’ Choice: striking or boring?

Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were my favorite couple at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards. They were adorable together. When Emily won for Best Actress in an Action Movie, for The Edge of Tomorrow, John ran on to congratulate her from the side of the stage, where he was waiting to present the next award. Emily joked during her acceptance speech that she was so fit during the film that she could bench John. She also said that it was “the greatest thing to not be a damsel in distress in an action movie.” Later in the night, the two of them riffed with host Michael Strahan, with John jumping up in faux outrage after Michael called Emily hot. You just get the feeling that they’re so happy together. I’ve never been a big fan of either but they’re growing on me.

Emily wore this red full length Pucci sequin gown with a keyhole neckline. She often takes calculated risks with her fashion and goes for a kind of thoughtful style rather than a bombshell look. (She’s gorgeous, she just doesn’t overdo it.) This really works, and her Lorraine Schwartz bangles and drop earrings are the perfect complement to the look. Check out this close up of her bracelet. Someone pissed her off but she’s keeping her game face on.

Here are some other attendees last night and we’ll be bringing you more fashion and news from the Critics Choice Awards throughout the morning. First off we have Andrea Riseborough in a green Escada pantsuit. Riseborough co-starred in Birdman along with Michael Keaton and Naomi Watts. When Birdman won for Best Acting Ensemble, Keaton asked her to speak and she was so cute. I thought she was in her mid 20s but it turns out that she’s 33. Her minimal makeup really makes her look younger. I like this oversize pantsuit, it’s quirky and it works. It looks like something Tilda Swinton would have worn if she had deigned to show up.

I’m also including photos of Genesis Rodriguez and Jamie Chung, two actresses from the excellent animated movie Big Hero 6. I didn’t know who they were prior to this but they both look incredible. Genesis is in a blue cutout strapless Reem Acra gown. It’s a little “look at me” but not bad. I much prefer Jamie’s full coverage Yanina Couture dress with the large abstract floral pattern. I usually dislike the sheer skirt over a miniskirt trend but this is incredible.

That dress is stunning on Emily. I love that dress and want it. She got it right.

I also love that ice blue gown on that one girl.

    • homegrrrlll says:

The red on Emily Blunt is too cool. With her hair it should have been a wine red with bronze embellishments- a warmer tone would have been more flattering. And the actress in the blue dress threw the whole look away with long fake looking extensions. An asymmetrical shoulder length style would have matched the futuristic look of the gown; #GiveExtensionsBackToBarbie

  2. OriginalTessa says:

I think Emily did something to her face. I think she gave the ole Botox a whirl, and it looks off.

    • caitlin says:

I think it’s just that she’s smiling for a change – unless she’s acting or promoting something all the pictures I’ve seen of her show her scowling

    • Jen says:

I think the lighter hair just doesn’t suit her. I don’t think she’s had anything done in my not-at-all expert opinion.

  3. Lilacflowers says:

Andrea Riseborough was hilarious in Birdman. She was at RADA with Tom Hiddleston and they have great things to say about one another.

    • manta says:

I haven’t seen Birdman yet but I’m sure she’s great in it. I rented Welcome to the Punch because Mark Strong+James McAvoy but I enjoyed her as much as the guys.

It took me a while to realize that was the same girl from Dagenham and Happy Go Lucky.
She definitely picks interesting projects even if she’s not in the center. I’m sure she’ll have her day in the spotlight.

      • ichsi says:

She was the best thing about WTTP (next to McAvoy’s butt and the sexual tension between his and Strong’s character)

  4. It is what it is says:

Is Blunt giving us the bird?

Also the green jumpsuit look is amazing. And Jane the virgin looks great!

    • tifzlan says:

That’s not Jane the Virgin. Jane is played by GINA Rodriguez. Genesis voiced Honey Lemon in Big Hero 6.

    • Leftovers says:

I know a number of people who just use their middle finger as their index finger, which is particularly funny when they use a tablet, so I am not reading too much into this gesture.

  5. tifzlan says:

    1. John Krasinski is so hot.
    2. Big Hero 6 was so good and it made me cry.

    • Diana B says:

I wept like a baby on the theather with Big Hero 6. It made me laugh like a lunatic and at the end cry like there was no tomorrow. So good. I hope it wins that damn Oscar.

  6. LB says:

I always remember Jamie Chung from Real World San Diego which had some of the best episodes ever. The moment I remember best about her is the night two of her roommates got arrested and she and her (non roommate) friends just climbed a fence to leave the premises. It was so random because suddenly she was back in the house. Hilarious editing and hilarious episode.

Blunt looks fabulous. Edge of Tomorrow was an underrated, excellent movie. I printed out her picture from that movie as my fitness inspiration.

    • kpoodle says:

RW San Diego was probably my favorite RW cast of all time. They were hysterical together. Do you remember the episode where they discussed Randy’s “man panties”? I was in tears, laughing.

      • LB says:

Lol I do!! I had tears as well. Randy was a trip. My fave Randy moment was again the night Brad got arrested and they all made Free Brad signs and Randy’s was just a scribble because he was too drunk. Also Bazooka Joe! Brad was funny too that night when he heard the word penal code and responded “I didn’t touch his penis”. The whole season had gems – the two of them dressing up as Mario brothers. I wish I could watch that season again.

Do you remember Frankie’s fear of water?

      • Bridget says:

It makes a lot of sense when you hear that they were smoking a lot of pot during that season!

      • QQ says:

Yo, Is crazy she is now actually IN HOLLYWOOD like a Thing meantime Johnny Bananas and Wes and all Are still Doing Challenges.. like yearly.. In damned near their 40s

  7. Nk868 says:

Lovelovelove chungs dress. Agree, usually over the mini/sheer combo (just seems overdone at this point most of the time, I don’t outright dislike it) but this shows how to do this trend well!

  8. Erm says:

Jamie’s dress is amazing. I agree it would be better if the skirt’s lining went to the hem.. Then it would be perfection. Emily is super pretty but her dress is pretty boring.

  9. BendyWindy says:

Jamie Chung looks amazeballs. I love her whole look. Emily’s dress is eye-catching, but I dislike the way it fits in the neck area. I don’t know, it just looks a bit off to me. The lady in blue is doing nothing for me.

  10. Mimz says:

For those who dont know Jamie is in Once Upon a Time as Mulan.
Genesis, an american “latina” actress, she did a few telenovelas but also made a few movies but nothing great yet like Man On a Ledge and What to expect when you’re expecting.
Shes good. Both of them look great.
    All ladies look good here..

    • Diana B says:

Yes! I thought “how can you not know who Jamie chung is? she’s freakin Mulan!”

    • booboocita says:

For me, Genesis is a sign that I’m getting old. She’s the daughter of Jose Luis Rodriguez, a Venezuelan actor and singer who was HUGE when I was a little girl in Caracas back in the 1970s and 80s. He starred in quite a few Venezuelan telenovelas, always cast as the dead-sexy heartthrob (his nickname was “El Puma”). His mother was an activist, and he’s always been pretty leftist. In the mid-1980s, he made a number of public statements criticizing the Venezuelan government, and he and his wife had to leave the country. They settled in Miami, where Genesis was born. He lives in Peru now, where he’s a judge on the Peruvian version of “The Voice.”

Genesis has done a couple of telenovelas, but she’s also known for being a sexual abuse survivor. She made a movie with a married Mexican actor, Mauricio Islas, when she was a minor (she was 15; Islas was in his 30s), and she later said that she had been easy to manipulate, as she’d always had a crush on him. The Rodriguez family took him to court; the suit was settled for several million, and Islas still has a career. A**hole.

      • Mimz says:

Thanks BooBoocita thats the longer version but yes. I have known of her for a while and read about the scandalous “party underage sex” mauricio had with genesis. Its disgusting that he still has (?) A career but nothing close to what he used to (heartthrob, star of telenovelas) so he will never ever recover from that. I used to like him but i just think hes gross. Her romance with Christian on the other hand… that man i cant fault her for wanting he is so hot. I think she likes older guys…

I hope she makes it in hollywood. Shes good.

  11. scout says:

Emily Blunt brings some color but I don’t like her for some reason, can’t figure out why exactly. Green dress is awful, looks like she borrowed it from her mom.

  12. Lucy says:

Everyone here looked fantastic!! The green pantsuit intrigues me, in a good way.

    • GingerCrunch says:

No kidding! Emily is flawless, green pantsuit girl is super-cute and YOWZA on Jamie Chung! Well done for an awards show not everyone is not gonna watch, I’m guessing?

  13. Em' says:

Andrea Riseborough was the best dressed yesterday IMO. This pantsuit is amazing. The colour is a delight.
I thought the fasion was more interesting yesterday than during the Globes.

  14. Esmom says:

This might be one of Emily’s best looks, love it. I like the soft hair, it really flatters.

  15. Janet says:

The red dress is pretty. That green soot suit is horrible. I like Jamie Chung’s dress and she looks good in it.

  16. kristina says:

Emily looks like she is Botoxed to the MAX. She’s looked that way for a while now. Lay off it, girl!

  17. Lucy2 says:

Emily looks good, and I like the other 2 gowns as well.
Andrea, the woman in green? Does not look mid 20s. No way.

  18. Jen43 says:

I like Emily’s hair darker. Her husband is hotter than she is.

  19. Sassback says:

I love John Krasinski. He doesn’t do enough stuff. He did not choose his movie work wisely when he was at the height of his fame, that’s for sure. But, even though it was a little not quite right, his Brief Interviews with Hideous Men is great; he gave himself the best monologue and he killed it. I also liked his movie with Olivia Thirlby. He clearly plays bad guy disguised as nice guy really really well, a little like Neil Patrick Harris**. I liked Blunt in that awful Devil Wears Prada movie, she was one of the only good parts; her dress here is boring, and she’s looking a little like Liz Hurley in the first photo.

**By the way, I liked NPH in Gone Girl, kind of thought he’d get a Best Supporting nom.

  20. Greek Chic says:

Riseborough looks way older than 33 to me… I don’t like the suit (the color is nice), hair is mess and what’s wrong with these eyebrows? I don’t know her but i thought she was is her ’40s.
    Emily Blunt looks great.

    • Greek Chic says:

wow i googled her and she’s actually pretty..She doesn’t look like the same person. What happened? Black hair and messy eyebrows don’t suit her..She’s gorgeous here http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/bg/Andrea+Riseborough+W+E+premieres+London+R-M89ZxggbOl.jpg

      • Diana B says:

Holy moly, is like a different her. What the hell happened?

      • lucy2 says:

Wow, how is that the same person? She has grandma face in this post, but she’s gorgeous in that photo.

      • Lauren says:

What happened??? She looks 50 now!
Oh the wonders of hair and makeup…
I really wonder which Hollywood stars would still be considered beautiful on a day to day basis without all the makeup and hair stylists.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

SO glad Im not alone! Call me bitchy but she looks practically elderly. The oversized “homeless chic” pantsuit is not doing her any favors either. Side note, look at her feet! She seriously looks like a corpse, what that hell!?

      • Kori says:

I thought the same thing. The real pale, ashy skin ages her as does the hair. I’ve seen her in things and she usually looks much better. Isn’t she the actress who played Wallis in Madge’s WE? But this was not a good look and I didn’t like the green pantsuit either.

i love Emily Blunt’s dress–red is my favorite color so a little biased maybe. She was fabulous in Edge of Tomorrow–or as it’s been rebranded ‘Live. Die. Repeat’. It was actually a really good movie and her character was super kick-ass.

Jamie Chung isn’t just Mulan, she was Ed Helm’s wife in the Hangover 2 which was just ick. First I liked him with Heather Graham’s stripper but also because she looked like she could be his daughter. It smacked too much of ‘young Asian bride’ to me.

      • Greek Chic says:

@SnarkySnarkers i wanted to comment on her feet too.She looks like a corpse! She’s so pale that you see the veins in her feet. I’m pale too and until i am a little taned i don’t wear sandals.
I’m surprised that so many people here think she looks good.

  21. Bridget says:

I love Emily Blunt, but Krasinski leaves me cold. To me, it said a lot about him that he didn’t particularly like his Office castmates. There’s no rule that says you have to love the people you work with, but it felt like he married someone more famous and got big for his britches.

    • Tiffany says:

Yep. And his career right now is Mr. Emily Blunt. I feel she could have done better than him.

I think that it is really telling that none of his Office castmates have anything nice to say about him. Dude is a straight up social climber and still has a crappy career.

      • ican'tsnap says:

Yes he is a climber! You can tell he’s so proud to be friends with Matt Damon.

I have a little story about him, not a HUGE deal but I do think it’s telling… he interned at Conan, and the interns were not supposed to talk to the guests. Hard and fast rule. Well, he went up to Christopher Walken (think it was Walken) and told him how much he loved him blah blah blah, and that he’s an actor… I don’t know exactly what he told him. That’s the whole story, nothing huge, but it does speak to a sense of entitlement/self-importance, no?

      • Becky1 says:

I love Emily Blunt’s dress and think she looks great but I find the two of them annoying. There’s something forced about their public personas.

  22. Lama Bean says:

Jamie Chung is engaged to my crush Bryan Greenberg. I have loved him since the movie with Uma and Meryl. Jamie looks beautiful here.

  23. QQ says:

IDK Nothing this award season has done anything for me thus far..is all a Lot of “ehhh Sure sure that’s “nice” that is as far as it goes…….That Said: GENESIS RODRIGUEZ IS THE DAUGHTER OF EL PUMA!! ( Ya’ll he is Terrible and corny as F*ck but he was EVERYTHING in Venezuela and Latin America from 70s To 80s, look him and his pictures Up I’ll give you LIFE cause He Looks Like a Damned Big Cat, hence his Name… also He got with her Mom In All Types of Scandalous Fashion and when They simulcasted the wedding which they went to have in a Miami Palace His ex was in the Biggest Saturday Variety Show Split Screen Singing A Song About “Let Me Sing on the Day of Your wedding” It was Pure…as Michael K would Say: ESCANDALO)

  24. jammypants says:

Big Hero 6 is so underrated.

  25. roxy750 says:

All these women look stunning! Gorgeous!

  26. Penelope says:

I’m crushed to read that a few of you think John K. is a jerk! He always seems so down-to-earth to me, and I love his looks. They are such a sweet couple, too. Adore Emily’s outfit here and her turn in The Devil Wears Prada will always be one of my favorite performances EVER. She stole every scene she was in from the likes of Meryl Streep, no less. Love her.

    • Bridget says:

Its no secret that he and his Office co-stars didn’t like each other, and it was because he thought he was meant for bigger things.

      • Penelope says:

Ahh, that bums me out. Thanks for the input, though. The things you learn here! 🙂

    • ican'tsnap says:

They do seem very much in love and like they have a lot of fun together, BUT there are too many stories about him. And honestly I never had much an opinion on her, but she’s starting to bug me. I’ve noticed more and more that she seems to have a sort of haughty air about her. The look she gives on the red carpet is just increasingly… smug.

  27. Margaret says:

I guess I’m alone thinking Emily Blunt’s har looks like crap. The center part and two-tone color just looks boring and unflattering.

  28. jenniferjustice says:

Sorry but blunt gives off an arrogant self-important vibe. She has once she came on the scene. IMO she’s just meh and she hardly ever smiles. Too stoic and surly for me.

  29. LAK says:

OMG what happened to Andrea Risenborough??!!! She looks decades older than her real age. Gosh, I hate to be ageist, which we discuss and agree shouldn’t be part of the discussion, but the difference in her here vs the W.E. red carpet from a couple of years ago!!!!!!

  30. I_Answer_The_Headline_Question says:

Emily Blunt in red Emilio Pucci at the Critics’ Choice: striking or boring?

Neither. She looks nice but I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘striking’. I cant help but wonder if everyone else in this picture set didn’t look so terrible, would she really look good enough to warrant her own headline?
