Marion Cotillard & Rosamund Pike at the Critics Choice: brides with bad hair?

wenn22074222

The theme of this post is bridal with bad hair. Because… just look at them. Taken apart from Marion Cotillard, I think Rosamund Pike might have been able to work her Valentino gown and not have it look like a wedding gown. But put the two dresses in the same post, and it’s like we’re covering a double-wedding. These are photos of Rosamund and Marion at last night’s Critics Choice Awards. They were both Best Actress nominees and they both lost to Julianne Moore. I don’t think either of them minded. There was a cutaway to Rosamund when Julianne won and she seemed genuinely happy. As for Marion… well, she managed to get an Oscar nomination this year with zero money spent on her campaign. Plus, she already has an Oscar and a slew of other awards. She’s fine.

So let’s talk fashion. Rosamund in this Valentino…I don’t know, you guys. Is it better than her awful #WangFail at the Golden Globes? Sure, but that’s setting the bar really low. I’m pretty much fine with everything below the waist – the skirt is pretty, etc. But that top part makes her boobs look really low. And from the front, it looks like she just pulled back her hair to wash her face at night. God, Rosamund! We were expecting so much from you.

And Marion in this Dior gown… to me, the bigger problem is that this is WAY TOO MUCH dress for the Critics Choice. She wore this to Jimmy Kimmel last night too. Like, this is an old-fashioned ball gown. This is what a debutante would wear to her cotillion. There are probably hundreds of brides-to-be who would love to wear this on their wedding day. I feel like Marion was trying to “dress it down” by doing dirty, greased up hair but she just looks like a bride with bad hair.

Marion is adorable but sometimes I feel like the people at Dior have something against her or just went avant grade crazy. When they dressed Carla Bruni she always looked amazing. Even though it´s very different styles the key is to choose clothes that are flattering to the person.

    • Cici says:

That was when Galliano was still at Dior before he got fired.
The current Dior has much less interesting clothes and the tailoring seems off. They also look like something 30-60 year-old socialite would wear. Dior has two attractive women with great bodies in Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence and somehow they almost always manage to make them look dowdy.

    • Mary-Alice says:

Eh.. it’ Raf’s designs that totallyruined the whole Dior experience. Now he is trying ro be old house Dior plus avantgarde. Just no.

    • alreadyready says:

You know, Dior without Christian Dior, Valentino without Valentino Garavani, Chanel without Coco (and with an increasingly misogynist KL) …I don’t think this is Haute Couture any more. These brands are cash cows, maximizing profits and copying from their old masters’ archives. And dressing celebs for free to gain visibility.
In the past clients used to pay for one -of-a-kind gowns designed and tailored for them individually to best fit their style, body and personality. Now most outfits come from the runways…we can appreciate the difference.

      Two absolutely Stunning women.
Went to a SAG screening of Gone Girl. Rosamund Pike was amazing. I can see why she got the nominations.

  2. Kiddo says:

    Rosamund Pike #foundationgarment

    • Josephine says:

Right? With the right bra, she would have looked so much better. The hair isn’t my favorite, either.

      • BRE says:

I would totally love the hair if she was just out and about shopping but not for an even like this. I’m wondering if she is still nursing, how long ago did she have her baby?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I so agree, but I said that once on here and I was slammed by several people for body shaming. I just think most women look better with a bra. If you disagree, Kiddo started it.

      • Bridget says:

I’m going to take it one step further:

Women that had a baby less than 2 months ago need a bra. They get bigger in pregnancy, so even if a woman isn’t nursing she still has to deal with th pregnancy cans. A bra would work wonders. And with a dress like that, which cost thousands of dollars, they couldn’t just build one in?

      • Josefa says:

I’ve always said the same thing. If you feel more comfy without a bra and you don’t mind how it looks, power to you, sister. But I think you’d look better with one, especially if you’ve got big tatas.

    • vauvert says:

So right. But the style is also one that does not flatter pretty much anyone, with the high neck making your boobs appear too low on the torso no matter how much you hoist them up. She is really failing on the red carpet…

    • Lucy2 says:

I agree- better support would make the dress look great. And I loved her hair at the Globes, this is not as flattering.

    • zinjojo says:

YES! I’m so bummed that Rosamund is just not bringing her A-game to the awards shows. She’s been pretty amazing in the run up to the awards, but what is happening now is just not great.

Definitely needs a bra! And that hair isn’t working. Hope she figures it out for the Academy Awards!

  3. Maya says:

Only time I can say that Marion doesn’t look good. Dress is gorgeous but the hair is a no no and the makeup a hit hard.

Hopefully she will be back to her french ckassy chic look at the Oscars.

    • RocketMerry says:

Yep. Marion does not look good here.
On a bright note, the dark wine-coloured lipstick and slicked back hair make her look a bit like (Italian actress) Asia Argento; so there’s your positive side of things: Asia is totes badass!

  4. SpookySpooks says:

There is something about Marion that buggs me. I just can’t warm up to her.

  5. kri says:

Marion is so lovely, but this is one of her worst red carpet looks for me. Nothing here can be saved. Throw that Gone With The Wind crinoline out the damn door, wash your hair and start again. RP shares the badness here-FFS put on a bra. You are beuatiful with an amazing bod. #isupportsupport

  6. Stephanie says:

How do they manage to take beautiful women and make them look bad? Amazing.
    :-/

  7. Maria says:

These dresses are ugly as sin.

Pike needs a better stylist and seamstress, period. She has a nice body but the fit of her clothing does it no favors.

  8. SamiHami says:

Cotillard always looks like she smells something offensive. In these pics she looks like she’s smelling her greasy hair. Yuck.

  9. Dragonlady Sakura says:

Reminds me of a David’s Bridal ad.

  10. Mimz says:

Am a minority here but i dont hate Marion’s dress. Its a bit much for the occasion yes but i lile it. I dont mind the hair either. Make up is heavy i think she should have gone with a nude, very soft make up. Would make a nice contrast.

  11. Karen says:

Its the battle of my least favorite hair trends: slicked-back oily (Marion) and center parted and scrapped tight to head (Rosamund).

Luckily they’re both so naturally beautiful. The hair doesn’t bother me as much as it would on anyone else.

    • Dante says:

The greased down to the scalp hair trend needs to die. I have seen it too much this season and it flatters no one.

  12. DavidBowie says:

If Marion’s dress had been a foot shorter it would have looked amazing. Her hair is awful.

Rosamund and her stylist have lost their mojo. 🙁

  13. Sarah says:

Isn’t that Dior dress the same one JLaw wore to a Hunger Games premier, but it had been hemmed shorter for her? It looks familiar to me.

  14. Jayna says:

Marion looks like she is getting married. All that’s missing is the veil. But I love her pale skin and makeup against the dark hair.

Roseaund looks awful. A severe look with the hair and makeup and gown not that flattering. I just don’t like her hair parted in the middle and back so severely. It makes the shape of her face look mannish.

  15. spaniard says:

Both dresses are hideous IMO. And Rosamund’s is also really unflattering.

  16. scout says:

LOVE both of these women, but please get advice from a stylist or something, too much white! Add some color, Y’all ladies.

  17. MJ says:

I love the shape of Marion’s dress and think she looks splendid! I agree about her hair though, but it does give this princessy dress a little more edge I guess. Overall she’s a win for me.

Rosamund, just ugh. What is with that stupid mock turtleneck?

  18. Janet says:

Cotillard looks like a walking egg cup.

  19. GingerCrunch says:

Hideousness. And thank you for #WangFail…omg.

  20. Lucy2 says:

Marion is such a natural beauty but this look does nothing for her.

  21. QQ says:

Yikes This is bad from every angle

  22. MrsBPitt says:

Marion just needs a tall blonde wig, a powered face and a glued on beauty mark and she would be Maria Antoinette!!!! WHAT WAS SHE THINKING WITH THIS DRESS!

Rosamund, Rosamund,….get a new stylist or get a stylist, whatever! I had such high hopes for her red carpet appearances. Really bad!!!

  23. Bridget says:

Rosamund’s stylist looks like they have no idea how to style a recently postpartum woman. That Wang dress on Sunday was ridiculous, and this Valentino is leaving a lot to be desired. Does she share a stylist wirh Jessica Chastain?

  24. ernie says:

Jesus. Dior is really sticking with this hairdo, aren’t they?

  25. roxy750 says:

OMG! These are probably 2 of the most beautiful women. They really are very stunning—but these looks, on both are horrendous!

  26. Penelope says:

They are both stunningly beautiful women who would look so lovely in the right outfits. Amazing how often the stars and their stylists get it so horribly wrong.

  27. Katie says:

Bad white dress #2 for Rosamund Pike. She’s got lovely pale skin but the white makes her look pasty. Perhaps a pale color other than white might work better.
Marion is a gorgeous woman and I love her on screen. This look is so bad, all around! The hair looks like gym hair after you don’t have time to shower but still need to get to work. And what is with this lipstick color?! It’s a terrible winey purple and she’s not the first actress I’ve seen sporting it on the red carpet.

  28. ican'tsnap says:

Okay I’ll admit to being a dork who looks at most of the fashion shows online – I noticed in the last few Dior collections that there were hardly ANY red-carpet appropriate gowns. So, they don’t have much to choose from right now.

They should put her in some vintage Dior!

  29. Mar says:

Marion was my IT girl along with Sienna Miller and Diane Kruger for style, but Sienna is the only one of the 3 that have impressed me lately

  30. Josefa says:

You actually have to put an effort into making such beautiful women look this bad. Congrats, I guess.

  31. WhereTheWindBlows says:

I like Marion but the haircut makes it looked like her mother just cut her hair 10 minutes before this photo. Bad, bad, bad.
