Jennifer Aniston wears all-black, wins the Montecito Award: cute or unflattering?

FFN_RIJ_ANISTON_013015_51640812

Here are some photos of Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux out in Santa Barbara on Friday night. They were attending the Santa Barbara Film Festival, where Aniston picked up the Montecito Award for her work in Cake. She didn’t let Justin walk the carpet with her or pose for photos with her. At least she didn’t make him stay in the car! As for her outfit, I cannot find the ID to save my life. I think the ensemble is probably Saint Laurent – she’s been wearing so much Saint Laurent lately (so has The Leg), plus that belt feels very YSL-y. I’m glad she finally covered up her girls, and I like it when she wears pants. I just feel like these pants could have been hemmed a bit better.

Not only did Jennifer get the award, but she also sat down for a two-hour Q&A/discussion for the fans. She talked about how she got the part of Rachel on Friends (a story I feel like we’ve heard about a million times) – go here to read. She also talked a bit about how difficult it is for her to get hired for Cake-like films, because people only think of her as a rom-com queen.

Her rom-com reputation: It’s “sort of blessing and a curse… Usually I don’t even get the opportunity to get in the room because it’s usually given to an actress who is already in the director’s mind or the screenwriter’s mind. And usually I’m not put onto those lists — ‘Too much baggage with that’ or ‘Won’t be able to disappear’ or all that kind of stuff, which makes me just more and more to want to find something that I can dig my heels into.”

The paparazzi & the tabloids: “It’s a real distraction and it’s a real hassle. It’s just one of those things that’s unfortunately out of anyone’s control, and so you just have to hope that you can get through a take without one of them screaming something or using their flashbulbs if you’re doing a night shoot. And when you’re out there being quite vulnerable and emoting and all of that stuff, having these, you know, animals over there is disheartening. It’s an added challenge. It’s not something they teach you or they warn you about.”

On Justin Theroux: “He’s an amazing character actor and actor period.” She said she first met Theroux when he was shooting 2008’s Tropic Thunder, but first worked — and fell in love with him — on 2012’s Wanderlust, noting, “He kind of steals the movie!”

[From THR]

While I think she’s probably dead-on in her assessment of why she isn’t offered darker, more dramatic roles – because people only think of her as a bubbly rom-com princess – I feel like she’s also missing one other reason why she isn’t offered the kind of juicy roles she thinks she should have: because literally no one is buying it. She’s never been able to carry a film on her own. Pair her with a strong leading man, sure. Put her in an ensemble, sure. She does well enough. But she’s not being offered the juicy roles in dark dramas because she’s never been able to show that A) she can pull them off or B) that anyone will go see the film with Aniston in the lead.

Also: do you think it’s shade that she calls Justin a “character actor”? I do not. He IS a character actor, just as Jennifer is a character actress, except she thinks she’s a leading lady. But that’s the thing… Justin might think of himself as a leading man. Which is why I don’t know if it’s shade to call him a character actor. It’s like Jennifer is saying “You’re never going to be more than part of an ensemble. But I still love you.”

There’s some discussion about whether Aniston will be invited to present at the Oscars. I think she might be asked, and if asked, I think she would show up. Especially if the producers aren’t inviting Brangelina. But Brad is one of the producers on Selma, which is up for Best Picture, so who knows?

Last thing – Page Six says Jennifer had a “girls’ night” with Chelsea Handler, Sandra Bullock and some other ladies in West Hollywood last week.

Jen has been looking fantastic lately.

    • Jenni says:

Yes, she does. She looks super cute.

      • Annie says:

Both she and the BF just had laser peels and perhaps botox.

Can she disappear already? She should realize by now that no matter how much hands she promotes a movie with her as the main lead and without any support from a bigger star, people are just not interested to see it.

without CAA and her her PR machine, I bet you she could bea Hasbeen by now, I think they are getting tons of money from her because she is a hard sell.

      • perplexed says:

I think her work is better than his. She looks good; he looks orange.

    • Elly says:

yes, lately she shines. I´m surprised how much i like most of her styles in the last weeks.

    • Katherine says:

I like this outfit. Flattering. Everything about this look works except that stupid oversized watch. But the award is just an extension of her joke Oscar campaign – a campaign which has left a bad taste in the mouths of many in the industry. It has not helped her at all. She really mishandled the marketing of the movie (particularly by ignoring the rest of the cast and making this all about her) and the suspicious shilling by some pundits and the fact she didn’t have the goods to back it up.

Sadly for her it will be a cold day in hell before she gets in the game again.

      • GoOnGirl! says:

@ Katherine. If only what you wrote were so true. Where are the other people in the movie? Someone commented recently that William Macy and Felicity Huffman were at one of the award shows and they didn’t take a picture together. I’m not even sure they said hello. So what happened during the making of this movie?

    • Someonestolemyname says:

I love the outfit. This style top suits her more than the V neck.

She looks great in this look. She long longer , taller. It’s a nice look for her.

  2. Reed says:

So Cake is HUGE BOMB after all the overpromotion. $1.5m in two weeks. Shocked….not.

    • Maya says:

Well the budget was 8 million according to Jennifer herself and the awards campaign must have cost atleast 10 million – so yeah this movie is a HUGE flop…

      • Chinoiserie says:

I think it very unlikely that the awards campaign cost 10M, I feel she handled the campaigning mostly on her own. It would be extremely foolish for anyone to spend even a million let alone 10 for the campaign. Nobody would have not even heard of this film if she had not campaigned for her role, that is how small the film is.

      • Katherine says:

Unfortunately it might have been better for her if no one had heard of Cake. It has become the laughing stock of the net.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

        The film was a dud.

I think Jen should be going to quality tv HBO, Showtime roles, maybe something on par with the True Detective female role, it would give her a chance to change her image, rough it up a bit, play a darker character and also she good in ensemble work.

Maybe She should have put her name in the hat for the True Detective female lead, …how old is the role?

      • @someonestolemyname
Juliette Lewis has a new show coming out in….March??? I think. “Secrets and Lies”…with Ryan Phillipe. And she’s in another series (that’s coming out next year?) called “Wayward Pines” (according to IMDb)….I’m glad to see her more on screen.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

@ Reed. You know what’s funny? I think Radar On Line is the only place that actually stated the fact that Cake did bomb. Everyone else hushed it up. Then the budget for the film was dropped from $8 million to $4 million. Well if it’s $4 million, Aniston told a lie because she stated $8 million was the budget for her “little film” that no one saw. I still don’t know how you can get nominated when, even she said it, no one saw the movie. Now having said all this, I’m waiting for her to disappear and take Justin with her.

  3. Kiddo says:

I like that look on her. I see her acting ability on par with Sandra Bullocks’. Sandra is over-rated and Jen is under-rated. LET THE HATE BEGIN.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Sorry, no hate. I think Sandra B seems nice, but have always thought her acting ability was overrated.

      • I like her older movies (the one where she was an alcoholic, “2 Weeks Notice”, and “The Proposal”), somewhat, but Sandra has basically played the same roles over and over again. At least from what I noticed. All of her characters always are the serious/frumpy/no fun/awkward types. Basically you can just move her from movie to movie, and change her name and hairstyle. And I STILL cannot believe she won an Oscar for “The Blind Side”…….I was actually pretty excited to see the movie, as years before the movie was made, I read the story in Reader’s Digest, but I was very….underwhelmed. I get kind of antsy when I get bored with movies (and it doesn’t take much), and the only reason I didn’t fast forward through half of it was because I was watching it with my mom.

      • epiphany says:

You’re right, Sandy Bullock is no Meryl Streep, but she comes across as much more lovable and believable than Aniston, which is the source of her success, not her raw acting chops. Aniston, on the hand, has no acting chops at all, and certainly no charisma. She’s just so obsessed with fame that she can’t see it. She’s fine in an ensemble cast where several other actors help carry the load, but that’s the end of it. I really wish she’d see her real talents are in business, particularly real estate. She turned profits on several high end properties in a very down market – GF should study up on real estate law, and become a full time property flipper. She might even get a reality show out of it!

      • Kiddo says:

I disagree, I think Jen has been good, not excellent, but very good with screen presence and charisma. She plays to this strength in comedies, which is actually no small feat. I haven’t seen Cake, but I’m guessing that maybe she hasn’t been as convincing in a serious role. I can’t say. I think people confuse and combine Aniston’s tabloid persona with her acting ability, and lose objectivity in critiquing the work. I think the same happens with Bullock, but in the opposite direction, in that they give her more credit than she deserves, because she has been treated as America’s fun girl, sweetheart.

      • Red says:

Sandy was amazing in Gravity. The way she moves her body through some of those scenes and still manages to say a thousand things with no words is amazing. Its somewhere between delicately graceful and athletic, and so vulnerable. The standing scene at the end and the rebirth scene on the space ship, mind blowingly good. The symbolism would have been lost with lesser actresses but Sandra brought it.

      • perplexed says:

I like Sandra Bullock, but yeah I was surprised at how underwhelming she was in The Blind Side. I thought that win was much weirder than Marisa Tomei’s.

      • Katherine says:

I will always enjoy While You Were Sleeping. LOL! Sometimes it’s not about great acting but the presence an actor brings to the role and to the screen. Sometimes acting and presence are separate qualities/factors – for the lucky few it is a lovely combination. Sandra has, at times, what I would call an entertaining presence – her acting not so much.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

I liked Sandy in Love Potion No.9. It’s so silly. Lol…. it’s old school Sandy. So silly, a B- movie. Straight to Video.

    • Andrea1 says:

      Yawns

    • BadAssCompass says:

kind of agree, birds of feather flock together after all 😉 as for her fashion, I don’t hate it, don’t love it either, pants material seems a bit too thick.
also, I think she wanted to say that Justin is equal parts hot and also able to pull character actor card. Tbh, even though he photographs lame, I thought he was quite good in the Leftovers. That show did not get any awards love, did it?

    • Maya says:

I have no problem with Jennifer’s acting – she is very talented when it comes to comedy.

Now her personality is another issue…

    • Luca76 says:

Sandra is funnier and has more charisma on screen. She is much better at physical comedy. Jen is actually a better serious actress but she isn’t a lead actress. She’s always better in ensembles. She has great comedic timing. But she can’t carry a film and is usually only as good as her co stars whereas Sandra can carry a crappy film with her personality. She can also upstage other actors and hold the the focus of a film something I don’t think Jen can do and for me is the mark of a movie star. While neither is a great actress IMO Sandra is a true movie star and Jen is probably a better fit for TV (I know that’s not going to happen anytime soon).

      • Sullivan says:

Beyond the acting, Sandra has a movie star presence. Aniston has TV star presence. If only she’d go back to TV.

    • kcarp says:

I think you are right. I can’t even get on board with Sandra Bullock being this great actress. I feel like when she won the Oscar basically she just colored her hair blond and began talking with a twang.

I think J was great in that movie, what was it called? It’s at the tip of my tongue. The one where she is a wife working in at store with Jake Gyllenhaal?

I do think Justin Theroux is kind of ridiculous. They will never get married. He seems like he is a girlfriend of hers who will drink margaritas and talk trash about The Leg.

  4. jenn12 says:

I have no interest in her, but she is usually on point in terms of fashion. I love all black and I wear it a lot, but I make sure the shoes are a counterpoint, like wearing red or silver when everything else is black, or using silver accessories.

    • I like it, but think the fit is off with everything above the waist……too loose. And I wish her pants had been hemmed a little. But I’m a huge fan of the pants part of the jumpsuit.

      • jenn12 says:

I love wide legged trousers. Not feeling the belt.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Virgilia Coriolanus, who wrote: “I like it, but think the fit is off with everything above the waist……too loose. And I wish her pants had been hemmed a little.”

I think it’s because she buys outfits designed for taller women. At 5’4″ (I think she’s embellishing the inches a bit), Jen should be wearing clothes designed for ‘Petite’ body frames. So the tops (especially those ‘V’ neck jackets) and pants are too long/sometimes too big in each direction.

  5. scout says:

42″ flare is back again? She looks happy, that’s always attractive.

I think she presented once and Brange were there in the front row, so they all might show up and it’s a good thing. I am dreading the “white gloves” presence though, hope I don’t have to see that mug again. Looking forward to Oscar.

  6. Oooh, queue gossip about how Jennifer and Justin got together–she said she fell in love with him on the set of “Wanderlust”….coughWanderlustDidn’tFilmForOverAYearcough….where’s O’Kitten? I’m f-cking up the rotation 😉

    • FLORC says:

      VC
Lol! Yea. Timelines have been tripped over so many times at this point. Aniston got with a guy who was in a committed 14 year relationship with his live in gf. It’s pretty much admitted to by Justing And Jen at this point multiple times.

      • Kim1 says:

Justin’s girlfriend, Heidi , visited the set of Wanderlust and had dinner with members of the cast, including Jennifer.
        #UNCOOL

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think the outfit is nice. I don’t think she meant to insult him by the character actor remark, though she did catch herself and add “and actor, period,” so maybe it came out wrong.

  8. As far as her character acting goes–I don’t think she can act, period. While (I think) a lot of actors have tics that are the same in all their films, hers really annoy me. Like REALLY annoy me. I hate how when she’s trying to act confused she starts stuttering and makes her eyes really wide. Which is also weird, because she does the same stuttering thing with a lot of her speeches, it seems. I kind of liked her in Horrible Bosses, but I think they took her character too far in Horrible Bosses II.

It’ll be interesting to see how she does with her career in this new year………it doesn’t seem that “Cake” has helped her career (as in she didn’t sign onto any new movies), let’s hope, for her sake, that hurt her.

    • norah says:

the difference between ja and sandra bullock is that the latter can carry a movie without a huge male actor opposite her – jennifer needs that counter balance sadly enough. all her biggest hits were with the top actors – esp in the beginning ben stiller jim carrey etc – but recently none of her films even with an ensemble havent done well – except meet the millers and hb – she is like rachel in every role complete with the ticks or whatever gestures which makes it very annoying to see – cake had a really good cast but sadly only concentrated on ja

  9. Lucy2 says:

    I like the outfit.
I know people give her flack for her campaigning, but she acknowledged the problem in her career and made an effort to change it and get different roles, which I don’t see as a bad thing.

    • Esmom says:

Yes and yes. I really think she worked so hard to promote Cake not for the awards but change the trajectory of her career.

And now, as Kiddo said above, let the hate begin.

      • eva says:

If that’s true why not bring other cast members out to promote the film, why just her?

And give it a rest with the hate talk, people hardly hate her they’re just tired of the same old rubbish she spouts.

      • Andrea1 says:

“And give it a rest with the hate talk, people hardly hate her they’re just tired of the same old rubbish she spouts”.
@ eva exactly! Notice I yawned upthread! Enough with the hate talk. Its getting boring please…

      • epiphany says:

I Know, isn’t that silly, to use a word as inflammatory as “hate”, when it’s just criticism, expressing a contradictory opinion, or just good ol’ snark? Hate takes a tremendous amount if effort; I can’t speak for anyone else, but I don’t care enough about Aniston to expend the energy to hate her. She makes herself an easy target, what with her ridiculous PR games, and the things she says – she loves Justin Theroux because he “thinks thoughts”, for goodness sake – so why not let the snark fly? It doesn’t hurt anyone, Aniston herself couldn’t care less, and it’s fun. No hate here.

      • Josephina says:

        @Kiddo and Esmom-

Aniston puts her foot in her mouth often enough, AND she is a very visible actress. Kim Kardashian knows that what she says will be scrubbed and at this point, Aniston is on the same level. Given also that she has Samurai Huvane as a PR agent WHILE she makes/has made her many careless blunders provides AMPLE opportunities to comment. Either she is not listening to him or he is playing a very mean and endless joke.

If you are satisfied talking about her hair, clothes, fitness, yoga and diet- well, maybe that’s enough to fill your belly … but it may surprise you that women need more substance –even under the guise of entertainment.

And yes, her celebrity status- her thirst for fame – has gotten in her way in getting choice film roles.

      • Janet says:

No, no, Epiphany, you got it mixed up. She said she loved to sit and watch John Mayer think thoughts. She loves Justin Theroux because he has pretty eyeballs.

  10. Andrea1 says:

“Especially if the producers aren’t inviting Brangelina. But Brad is one of the producers on Selma, which is up for Best Picture, so who knows?”
What makes you think Angie won’t show? unbroken got 3 noms in the tech category and like it or not its still a big deal. And also something many second time directors will kill to have. So IMO Angie will show up to support her movie! And I’m pretty show Brad will be there for selma too.

  11. gritsngreens says:

She’s just so boring and overrated. She’s the cheerleader in high school who has never shaken off the homecoming mentality.

The Good Girl came on this weekend and I watched it (Jake!) again. Her performance was really cringe-worthy. The movie was written well and produced well, and I feel that’s the only reason it did so well. If it was another actress, I feel they would have really given that part some zing. She just mumbled her lines and walked like she had to pee for the whole performance. I guess that’s “serious acting” to her though. Sorry, rant over. I just don’t like her!

    • Granger says:

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought she was bland in The Good Girl!!! I remember at the time how much attention she got for playing “plain.” She wore minimalist make-up and ugly clothes, and shuffled along with her arms hanging limply at her sides. BUT HER HAIR WAS PERFECT. Her highlights were impeccable and obviously expensive, and didn’t suit her department-store-employee character at all. It drove me crazy.

      • norah says:

the difference between good girl and cake is that there is no real difference. except the years between 2002 and now. i thought that jake g was terrific in the gg but then again he tends to be good no matter what ( i am biased abt jake g)

      • Katherine says:

I agree that Jen’s performance in The Good Girl was way overrated at the time though it didn’t garner any critical acclaim. But I remember being very happy for her that she was attempting to expand her acting comfort zone. While I realize that often an acting performance can be very much a product of a director’s very specific directions, I thought Jen showed promise in TGG.

    • Anastasia says:

You forgot something: she stared off into space a lot, too. ACTORING! LOL

    • Janet says:

gritsngreens, love your moniker. Totally agree with you about Aniston. She bugs the hell out of me.

  12. Jessica says:

I’m not a fan of the pants, but overly long flared pants are very on trend right now, Tom Ford’s bringing them back. That maroon suit she wore a few weeks ago, also bang on trend. I know people always say she dresses like she’s stuck in the 90’s, but she’s almost always wearing the latest fashion, she just manages to blend it in with her ‘look’ and not let the trend overpower her. Not many people can do that, but it’s a great skill for an celeb to have because they get the best of both worlds. They look trendy in the present, but when you look at a decade’s worth of photo’s there’s no ‘what the hell where they thinking’ fashion disasters. If you looked at Aniston’s fashion over the past 10 years with no prior knowledge of her, you wouldn’t be able to tell which photo’s were from when, which gives her a timeless quality.

Theroux is a character actor, and he makes a point of calling himself that, so I don’t think she was accidentally or otherwise insulting him here.

    • Esmom says:

Godo point about her style. For some people, it can really seem like the clothes are wearing them and that’s generally not the case with JA.

    • TC says:

I think the comment that “Aniston dresses like she’s stuck in the 90s” is really more a comment about how she still dresses like she’s in her 20s. Most of her red carpet choices appears too young for her, in my personal opinion. Either lots of cleavage showing or micro-minis that don’t look all that flattering on her. She wore a backless top with a short skirt to a Cake screening last month and the outfiy looked like it was purchased from the “juniors” section. Just really unflattering for someone her age in my personal opinion. The outfit above is more appropriate, but it’s just not that flattering because flares work best on women with long, thin legs. The style only makes her legs look chunkier than really are.

      • perplexed says:

I think the style nowadays seems to be to wear very short skits. That’s why I figure she wears them. I don’t remember anyone in the 90s wearing the kind of skirts they wear now (I’m sure some must have, but clothes nowadays seem much more revealing, so most of the stars seem to be following that trend). In the ’90s most stars seem more modestly dressed. Now everyone has gone the other way. It’s funny watching old clips on Youtube — hardly anybody from that period seemed to show their legs or cleavage off the way they do now. Julia Roberts has always been more modestly dressed, but in the 90s she seemed to be covered from neck-to-toe.

      • TC says:

@ perplexed — Google “Jennifer Aniston 90s fashion.” You’ll see plenty of cleavage, minus and short-shorts, both in fashion shoots and red carpets. But my point is that she dresses way too young for her age. They style she typically wears are styles you see on 20 year-olds.

      • perplexed says:

But I think her style is simply more in line with what people happen to be wearing now as a collective group. As in, everybody is dressed like that now. Her fashions don’t seem out of the range of what celebrity fashion is in the post 2000s. I don’t know if that’s because 40 is the new 20 or whatever, but I don’t see a lot of modestly dressed people nowadays (i.e booty shorts where the butt cleavage shows.) Today, the fashions are much more outrageous. Aniston’s 90s fashion looks appear more modest, even when she’s worn a short skirt, than how she dresses now (not Julia Roberts modest, but more modest compared to today’s weird Kardashian, Britney Spears, and J-Lo trendy styles). There’s a clip of her on Jay Leno in the 90s where she’s talking about Greece and she’s wearing pants and a regular shirt (that’s not how she’d dress today for a talk show appearance). I do think she’s dressing according to her personality, but I also think her style is melded with contemporary fashion trends.

Kate Middleton probably gets high praise for “seeming like a lady” fashion-wise, because the way she dresses, dictated by royal protocol, is sort of not what we’re used to seeing in today’s contemporary fashion.

      • TC says:

Well, Cate Blanchett, Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet, Nicole Kidman, Rachel Weisz, Diane Lane, Penelope Cruz, Tilda Swinton, Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock (all actresses who are around the same age as Aniston) don’t dress this way. In fact, they dress with a level of style and sophistication on the red carpet that Aniston just doesn’t possess. Even younger actresses aren’t following the revealing trend: Emma Watson, Emma Stone, Evan Rachel Wood, America Ferrera, Zoe Saldana, Natalie Portman, Felicity Jones and Marion Cotillard come to mind. So for one to say Aniston is just following the current trend, I don’t buy it when so many other actresses (who want their films talked about, not their cleavage) aren’t.

      • perplexed says:

I’ve seen actresses like Portman, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Zoe Saldana Bullock, and Witherspoon dress in very short skirts/dresses. Even Kristen Stewart does, and she’s a complete grungy tomboy. Kidman has sported cleavage where her chest looks kind of weird. Bullock wore a racy dress to the MTV awards which looked as short and revealing as what I’ve seen Aniston wear. Charlize Theron recently wore a dress to a premiere which was see through and you could see her …underpants? (It was similar to what Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lawrence wore to their premieres where you could see their underpants through a see-through dress. Whatever strange trend this is I haven’t actually seen Aniston step into it yet).

The other actresses add more color to their wardrobe while Aniston favors black, but even Portman was on Letterman recently in a very short dress where she showed off her very short legs. She’s also sported daring cleavage, but her chest is sort of small it never winds up looking particularly provocative.

In the picture above, Aniston is dressed modestly. Sometimes she wears short skirts, and other times she doesn’t like the other actresses mentioned. They mix things up but I don’t think they’re always dressed conservatively like Aniston is in the pic above. They simply change up their looks between revealing and non-revealing like she does.

But we can agree to disagree.

    • snowflake says:

I like JA’s style. Simple, elegant, never a fashion victim. She is much better at fashion than KK, imo. KK looks like a fashion victim most of the time.

  13. Talie says:

She didn’t cancel this like Leo did after it was clear he wasn’t going to win an Oscar. I think the next time she does a dramatic role, she’s sail right to a nomination and maybe even a win.

    • When did Leo do that?

And lol, where’s Kiddo? I was watching “Friday” last night with my mom, and now I know where Leo got his fake karate kicking from. Craig and Smokey.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

        @Virgilia Coriolanus …

“Friday” is one of my favorite films of all time. Chris Tucker was a riot as Smokey. But then he went on to even greater notoriety as the Intergalactic D.J. Ruby Rhod in another one of my all-time favorite films, sci-fi cult classic “The Fifth Element.” If you haven’t seen it, you truly must. 🙂

      • @Emma
I was sad that he wasn’t in the 2nd or 3rd one…..I wonder if he said no to sequels?

And I LOVED their exchange with Felicia–“Get the hell on, Felicia…..Let me borrow a joint right quick…..You need to borrow a job, with your begging ass….I’mma remember that….Remember it, write it down, I don’t give a f-ck…..Craig….BYE FELICIA”…HAHAHAHA!!!!

No, he wasn’t in any of the sequels. After the success of the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker 1998 film “Rush Hour,” Chris started demanding more money (much, much more than he could ever be paid for the 2000 “Friday” sequel, “Next Friday”). The third “Rush Hour” sequel almost didn’t get made because he asked for a large salary and refused to commit to the film until his salary was confirmed. I think he’s over it (and himself) now. I also loved him in “The Silver Linings Playbook.” 🙂

Oh, and good news for all Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan fans. “Rush Hour 4” is in development. It’ll be interesting to see where the characters are in their lives as the first film came out 17 years ago.

P.S. Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister (Deebo in “Friday” and the President in “The Fifth Element” by writer Director Luc Besson) and the actress who played Felicia (Angela Means) were a couple in 1995 when the film was made.

  14. Tarsha says:

VC I was just going to post the same thing, you beat me to it. So here we have Aniston admitting that she and a taken man fell in love on set. Heidi and Justin were a couple during, and shortly after Wanderlust wrapped up. So she fell in love with a taken man on set and seduced him and stole him from his partner of 14 years. Her own words expose her.

    • GoOnGirl! says:

@Tarsha. And she’s been, and will continue, given a free pass on her “stealing” Justin. After all, she broke up a 14-year relationship, but it didn’t matter because Justin and Heidi were never “married.” And she does tell different stories of how they met.

  15. LAK says:

Has anyone noticed that Justin isn’t wearing guyliner?

Is that progress? I feel it is.

    More natural Justin. LOL

  16. Emma - the JP Lover says:

People always bring up “The Good Girl” as Jen’s big ‘dramatic chops’ film. But her true, ‘darkly we go’ dramatic chops film was the November 2005 film “Derailed” with Clive Owen in which Jen played the villain. Not only was she completely out of her league with Clive Owen, she just doesn’t seem to have the depth necessary to pull off such rolls. The fact that people always bypass “Derailed” and go straight to “The Good Girl” speaks volumes. I believe that’s the real reason Jen doesn’t get offered those roles.

  17. Maya says:

So uncool and missing a sensitivity chip Jennifer.

So you fell in love with him while you were shooting Wanderlust. You conveniently forgot he was in a 14 year relationship with another woman.

My or my – the mighty continues to fall and the lies continues to get exposed.

  18. Josephine says:

Why is no one talking about that hair?! Holy split ends, her hair looks awful. The curtain hair just really brings down her look. I like the top alot, but I’m not a fan of the look as a whole – she looks kinda blah.

  19. Robert says:

Why is she still doing the press circuit? It’s not like Cake was nominated for any Oscars. Her and Eggs Benedict both need to go away for a few months.

  20. HoustonGrl says:

I saw a clip of cake, a long clip. I really don’t get what all the fuss is about. It was seriously RACHEL GREEN only serious and sad. I’m not trying to be harsh. Her acting is one-dimensional. She should just be happy to have made however many millions with such limited talent.

  21. norah says:

does she look bloated again or is it just me? the outfit is ok – hair is a mess but the belt /sash looks rather tight from the pictures

    • TC says:

I think the outfit makes her loom bloated, because it’s not very flattering. Opting for a cropped, tapered pantsuit with killer heels instead of flares would’ve been the better option.

  22. FingerBinger says:

I like the outfit. The pants are too long ,but guess that’s the fashionable thing to do.

  23. pwal says:

Re: character actor… not a dig at all, although the term sometimes gets misappropriated, especially when someone is out to get undue recognition for a passable performance.

Myself, I think that Aniston is seeking out the qualifier, character actor trapped in a leading actor’s body, a moniker a certain ex has been labelled for the last 15+ years. Only, the certain ex hasn’t enjoyed the media infestation that Aniston has purchased for this one performance, but ultimately, the certain ex wins because his performances gain more acclaim as time passes.

  24. GoOnGirl! says:

I remember when Aniston wore colors. Then, for some reason, she switched to black. All I can say is I do hope the Academy Awards does not ask her to present. I am so ready for her “pity me” tour to be over and for her to just disappear.

  25. someone says:

    I think she looks fantastic!

  26. GoOnGirl! says:

@emma the JP lover: But doesn’t Aniston have a stylist or does she choose outfits herself?

@GoOnGirl!, who wrote: “@emma the JP lover: But doesn’t Aniston have a stylist or does she choose outfits herself?”

I’ve never read anyone pegged as Jennifer Aniston’s stylist. We know about her PR Guru, her hairstylist, and her yoga instructor, but the only time I recall a stylist being named in connection to Jennifer Aniston was during the extremely brief period when she tried to give herself a ‘hypster’ makeover with the short hairstyle, wedge shoes/boots, jeans, short jackets, and extra holes in her ear. Remember that? The stylist’s name was Kate Young.

      http://www.celebitchy.com/337176/jennifer_anistons_makeover_is_part_of_a_master_plan_to_look_edgy_for_justin/

If you had a personal stylist who always dressed you in see-through outfits (especially the tops) and over-sized tops, would you continue to let them dress you are school them in how you want the world to see you?

What she needs is a personal tailor to re-fit those off the runway outfits to suit her short waist and frame.

  27. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Well, at least she left the Xena Warrior Princess look at home this time. My eyes could only take so much more of the spectacle of her southbound trains.

  28. CJ Berk says:

She’s pretty-no question-and she’s had some really great surgery to enhance her face.
I just don’t understand why she can’t hem her pants….these are way too long, as were the last pair she wore. Someone should tell her to get a better tailor….it’s not stylish-kinda sloppy.

  29. Velvet Elvis says:

I haven’t been loving the extremely low cut, super revealing fashions she’s been wearing lately. It’s like she’s trying to be J Lo. I think this look on her is fab. Love it.

  30. Camille (The Original) says:

Hate the outfit. It looks awful on her.

  31. Ice Queen says:

The pants are way too long. Other than that she looks ok.

  32. Jayna says:

I just read all the posts. Some observations.

She doesn’t have the range to be a lead in a drama on the big screen. Someone said that a certain charisma on screen does make you a movie star even if not a great actor with range. I agree. I agree that Sandra Bullock is more talented than Jen as a movie star. I’ve watched most of Jen’s movies as I like her and have been disappointed with how she develops a character a lot of times (not always) even in Rom Coms. I did think she did a good job in that movie with Kevin Costner. It had serious scenes in it. I thought she was great in Marley and Me. But All About Polly, the first time I saw it I thought she played it too flat. She was going for chill and flakey, but something was missing. That indie movie where she was a pot-smoking maid she was awful. She’s playing a pothead, but she again went flat. I thought it was her worst acting ever. It was lethargic.

I think Sandra brings to the big screen in rom-coms more energy and charisma. Also, she does have more range than rom-coms, but isn’t a great actress, but I think a very good actress. No, she never deserved the Oscar for Blind Side, but Sandra has done more than comedies and I’ve liked her in most of her roles. No, Julia Roberts never deserved the Oscar for her role. Julia Roberts has something on screen, though, that was undeniable, a spark that lit up the screen. She could flat-line too when trying to be a dramatic actress. She was great in the abused wife movie (I can’t remember the name). She ruined the drama Closer, ruined it. The other actors, Jude, Clive and Natalie Portman, were fantastic.

Jen was fantastic in the Break-Up, a dramady. I thought she pulled off that balance beautifully. And in that scene in the bedroom when they are fighting, it’s her finest acting ever. That scene was as good as any other actresses could have done. Of course, the pain in her eyes was probably real at that point, not long after the breakup with Brad.

She has said she’s open to TV recently in an interview. She is 46. She knows the best parts are on TV right now for women. I doubt she wants to go there just yet because of the commitment and hours and months, and if it fails, it could set her back. She will give it her all for movies and getting parts and when it is drying up, she will go to TV. I think on TV she shines more, the small screen, and would be fine in a drama ensemble.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Jayna, who wrote: “No, Julia Roberts never deserved the Oscar for her role.”

Agreed. Julia should have won her Oscar for the sterling performance she gave in “The Pelican Brief” (Denzel Washington, too). I personally think that was one of Julia’s best dramatic roles (it was one of the 3 or 4 roles for which Denzel Washington ‘should’ have won an Oscar). If you haven’t seen the “The Pelican Brief” (1993), I highly recommend it. 🙂

  33. lisa2 says:

I like the top not the pants. They need a bit of a hem.

I don’t talk about her acting. I have only seen ONE Jennifer Aniston film from start to finish and that was The Break Up. I know her fans talk about The Good Girl all the time. But that is a film that is over 10 years ago. Now she has Cake. She says she doesn’t get offers for these roles. It will be interesting to see what her next film role will be. If she wants the serious path then she will have to pass up on the comedic roles. It would have been better if she had promoted the film with the other actors. The failure of it is now in her hands. And the film has failed. The BO budget is between 7-10 million. That is what the studio said at the beginning of filming. It was from the Chinese investors. The Oscar promotion for her was a big spending deal. Anyone thinking otherwise is not in the REAL. The studio for one Julienne Moore’s movies said they could not afford an Oscar campaign for her. Which they quoted as 5-10 million. Jennifer hired a consultant. That person could cost 2-3 million; not to mention the print ads and such. So if she spent out of pocket she spent MILLIONS.. If she invested in projects she wanted to do with this kind of passion she could make the change in her career that she says she wants.

I am a born New Yorker. Ergo, my “uniform” is black. It’s my go-to color. My closet looks like a black hole. So unless it’s particularly hideous (and involves things like lace and whatnot), I am almost always a fan of a monochromatic black outfit.

  35. perplexed says:

I’ve found her to be okay in most of her films (which aren’t good, but I don’t think she’s the worst part of them). With a few exceptions, I find it’s her male co-stars that are kind of boring or annoying. I liked her with Affleck in He’s Just Not That Into You. But, for instance, I find Ben Stiller kind of irritating. In that movie she did with Stiller, I found her to be the one I was more willing to watch while I had to tolerate him. But when she’s paired with someone like Affleck, I find I enjoy watching her, the person she’s acting with, and the movie she’s in.
