Don Imus has prostate cancer

Don “Nappy-headed ho” Imus, the longtime radio personality who has made a career out of thinking he’s a lot funnier than he actually is, got serious this morning. Imus revealed to listeners that he’s been diagnosed with Stage II prostate cancer.

The controversial radio host Don Imus announced that he is battling stage II prostate cancer on his radio show on Monday morning, CBS 2 HD has learned.

There is no word on the prognosis for the 68-year-old entertainer.

Imus found himself at the center of a storm in 2007 after he called members of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team “nappy-headed hos.” The once prominent broadcaster was fired by CBS.

Imus returned to the airwaves when he was hired by ABC later in 2007.

Aside from his frequent tendency to say stupid, racist, offensive things, Imus has dedicated a significant portion of his free time to establishing foundations that benefit kids with cancer. He and his wife founded a line of gourmet foods, the proceeds of which fund the Imus Ranch, a working cattle ranch where children with terminal cancer can “experience the life of the great American cowboy.” Not really sure how that’s going to make them better, but I guess it’s a pretty cool idea. Now Imus is battling cancer himself – but did not comment on what his prognosis or treatment regimen is. According to the MedTV website, a stage II diagnosis usually means that the cancer is still localized to the prostrate and has not spread to other part of the body, which is good news. Standard treatment is surgery to removed the tumor, and radiation therapy. Good luck, Imus.

maybe this experience will make him a more peaceful person, but i doubt it. if he lives he’ll probably just be the same hate-spewing caveman he was before. good luck with that.

  2. SeVen says:

Karma is a bitch isnt it? 🙂

  3. L says:

SeVen, grow up! it sounds like you are saying that people who are diagnosed with cancer are getting a dose of bad karma? You sound like you must be very immature. Imus is far from perfect, he’s human you know, so he has screwed up many times over the years. He has also made it a point in his life to acknowledge his mistakes. Aside from that did you miss the part about all the good work he does for children with cancer?

MSat, the idea of the ranch isn’t to make the kids better but to make them FEEL better about themselves. The Imus ranch salsa is good stuff.

My Dad just finished treatment for prostate cancer. It tends to be one of the less aggressive types of cancer and if caught and treated in the early stages the prognosis is usually good.

Wow.. This could not have happened to a nicer man…

  5. Hieronymus Grex says:

Maybe not karma per se but irony, perhaps ?

  6. Baholicious says:

Hmm. Maybe having his head up his ass for all those years might’ve had something to do with it.

  7. L says:

Sure, Hieronymus Grex. Some might say it’s ironic that he gives of himself to children with cancer and then he gets it himself, that’s sadly ironic. But you guys who are being sarcastic and calling it it karma and pointing out irony that an older, grumpy, cynical, tactless man who has made mistakes is diagnosed with cancer, I just think you are beyond immature.

You know, if it was even O.J. Simpson, he wouldn’t have my sympathy, but I would refrain from making callous comments about karma and irony, if not for any other reason then out of respect for other people suffering from disease.

  8. Sinbad says:

So what? One in three men or something on that line will get prostate cancer. It’s very common. It hasn’t spread and he will get it treated…end of story.

  9. Leandra says:

Most of my uncles got it…it’s as common as the flu I think.

  10. Hieronymus Grex says:

Well you see “L”, I prefer to save my compassion for people I know personally such as a friend or family member instead of wasting it on strangers in the media. This cult of grief never has attracted me and never will.

  11. Sauronsarmy says:

Can’t say a feel bad for the guy.

  12. Sauronsarmy says:

Hieronymus Grex: Right. He has money and access to the best doctors in the country, I’m sure he’ll do fine.

  13. L says:

Hieronymus Grex: i wasn’t suggesting you waste any of your compassion on a stranger, god forbid. actually my point was that being unsympathetic does not have to translate into being insensitive and tactless. it’s not about lacking compassion for him, it’s about the desire to express that lack of compassion….and therein lies your irony, because in doing so the people who making tactless expressions regarding Don Imus are actually echoing the very image he projects, the one which they detest him for.

  14. GimmeABreak says:

@L: You’re spot on! People on this site are harsh! I’ve never seen so much hatred.

  15. michellle says:

    Well said L.

Despite Imus being an ass, & regardless of how common & in some cases benign prostate cancer may be, those of you attempting to be funny or clever at the expense of someone w/ cancer, simply shows how lacking in character & class you clearly are.

As for karma, it’s said to work both ways. So be careful, enjoying others’ misfortune may very well bring about your own.

  16. Prostate cancer survival rate has increased due to the constant research going on to find cures and preventive measures for prostate tumor. However, a patient can live longer by other methods. These methods refer to prognosis, which is possible even at the metastatic state. Even changing the lifestyle that is food habits and inculcating exercise as a part of daily routine.
