Chris Evans suited up as Cap with Chris Pratt at a Seattle children’s hospital

Chris Evans

This story made me a little weepy, so I need to talk it out. A few months ago, Chris Pratt and Chris Evans made a Super Bowl bet. Pratt is a Seahawks fan, and Evans forever stands with his Pats. Both men wagered to visit the other’s children’s hospital of choice dependent upon the game’s outcome. The Patriots took the title, but Evans and Pratt decided both hospitals should receive superhero visits. Pratt wore a Patriots jersey in Boston. Now Evans has made good by wearing his Cap suit in Seattle. This is the first time Evans has donned the suit for a visit. He usually shows up in civilian duds. This time was different, and the results are awesome. Cap with a beard! Make it happen, Marvel.

Even if you aren’t a fan of Pratt or Evans, it’s impossible not to be moved by these photos. Pratt previously swiped his Star Lord suit with the express purpose of visiting children’s hospitals. I wish he’d have worn the suit in Seattle, but still, this is awesome! Two Marvel superheroes in one visit. These kids were thrilled. Pratt and Evans look just as excited as the children. Evans pointing at a baby is probably my favorite of the batch. Seattle Children’s Hospital posted a flurry of photos on Twitter. Pratt tossed some snaps on Facebook, and Evans expressed his enthusiasm on Twitter.

This Dorito-flavored meatball gets excited about the strangest stubjects, but his enthusiasm is infectious here. Pratt and Evans aren’t doing this for publicity. They’re doing it for the kids. Marvel just happens to have hired some really nice guys. *sniff*

P.S. The British tabs think Evans is dating model Lucy Pinder because he visited Disneyland with a girl who looks nothing like Lucy. Huh.

D’awww. Good on them both for using their celebrity for a good cause. Dorito seems a lot more comfortable doing charity and spending time with kids than he does doing publicity.

Cap with a beard…omg. Oui, s’il vous plait.

    • Prairiegirl says:

You may be on to something. Let the other Avengers do interviews; give Chris DVDs of Ultron to show to the sick kids stuck in hospital. Contractual publicity requirements met all around.

  2. Lilacflowers says:

So proud of my super secret husband Chris when he does stuff like this. He was on loan to T.Fanty this weekend so good job to her for getting him there.

    • springingforward says:

This is so fantastic; I am so glad that Chris2 have done this. They really made a difference to these kids and both seem to recognize that they derived as much inspiration from these brave little kids as the kids got from the visit with their favorite superheroes.

      xxxooo

  3. Santia says:

There are actually still good people in the world …

    • Ripley says:

Why is it so dusty in here?

    • fritanga says:

Yeah. These guys. They rule. So proud of both of them.

After the constant parade of selfish preening douchebags, selfish vacant famewhores, selfish narcissistic morons, etc. who usually inhabit this site, it’s wonderful to see that some people, despite their enormous fame and wealth, can take the time to actually try to improve the lives of “nobodies” who are in pain and suffering. Evans and Pratt are good people.

  4. InvaderTak says:

A good thing from both of them. Those kids must have freaked.

  5. Sos101 says:

How lovely. This made my morning.

  6. Snazzy says:

I think I have something in my eye … that must be it …

  7. Lake Mom says:

The last picture with the baby brought tears to this old cynic’s eyes. These guys really are super heroes.

  8. Lucy2 says:

That is so great. The kids must love it!

  9. RocketMerry says:

Yay, C.Pratt pictures! Adorable and sweet as per usual 😀

  10. Rachel says:

I like Cap with a beard.

    • MtnRunner says:

Me too, and I rarely say that about men with full beards. But I think he looks as good with a beard as without. The hottest Marvel man in my book.

    • MtnRunner says:

Sighs, Avengers was my first non-Ironman Marvel film and I pretty much ignored him (and everybody but RDJ). But boy, he had me by the tits in Winter Soldier and this kind of charity work is a total panty dropper.

*runs upstairs to take a cold shower*

    • Darya says:

I love Evans with a beard – he gives good scruff. Captain America is hunky, but I don’t think that character gives his natural charm a chance to shine. He’s been in a fair number of iffy movies, but his performances made all of them more watchable. In my opinion, Fantastic Four (both of them), What’s Your Number, The Losers, Push, Nanny Diaries and Cellular were all saved from being total dogs because he was in them.

  11. GlimmerBunny says:

So adorable and heart-warming. Chris Pratt actually wore his costume when they visited the last hospital together (Evans didn’t), so maybe they take turns being the “star” superhero?

    • Lilacflowers says:

The costumed one was the “visitor” in each case. Pratt supports the Seattle Children’s Hospital and Evans supports Christopher’s Haven at Mass General so they were each bringing their “superhero” friend as part of the deal.

    • Lolo-ology says:

Interesting theory! I bet you’re right. I know I’d get overly excited if both showed up in full regalia. 😉

  12. cryforyesterday says:

I think Marvel also sent toys for the kids and Disney sent up Cap’s suit, which makes me wonder if that’s why Chris Evans is usually out of costume when he does visits like this. Stories like these make me always make me cry. I also love that they didn’t alert the media until after it happened.

    • Esthetix says:

I think Evans just really dislikes wearing the cap suit, which makes him doing it now for the children so much more wonderful.

Btw, Hiddleston did an impression of Chris Evans once and the whole bit was complaining about the suit.

      • Lilacflowers says:

They all hate the suits. They have stunt rigging built into them, which makes them really heavy and uncomfortable, with random pieces of metal occasionally scratching or hooking them. They aren’t easy to get on or off and once they’re in them, they’re pretty much unable to use a bathroom for several hours. They’re also really hot – they even built an air conditioning unit into Hemsworth’s. The spandex fits very snugly, leaving nothing to anyone’s imagination and requiring digital erasing from the actual film. If a cape is involved, it adds more problems, with the capes often blowing into the actor’s face or the co-star’s face or getting caught on things. Helmets also cause difficulties by limiting their vision, hearing, and movement . Evans, Hiddleston, Hemsworth, and Sebastian Stan have all talked about the costume problems in multiple interviews. Jeremy Renner has said he is very grateful that Hawkeye’s costume is pretty basic.

  13. Catelina says:

    when will hemsworth? :p

  14. Lolo-ology says:

Awesome human beings. Much feels. <3

  15. Lindy79 says:

    That last picture, sweet lord.

I don’t care what their reasons or what people might claim actors reasons are, it brings joy to kids and families that are facing a daily nightmare so they have my unwavering love for doing this.

    • MtnRunner says:

Yep. It means so much two kids and their parents. I believe that they do have good motives, even if they’re also looking for good publicity at the same time. It’s still a worthwhile thing for them to do.

  16. megs283 says:

    I love this!! <3 <3 <3

  17. vauvert says:

Kudos to both of them. Hope they do more of it and bless them. It makes me sad thinking how many others stars waste their time with stupid pap walks, selfies and crap when this is how much good they could do with a simple visit. How hard is it, you guys? Yes, it is a few hours of your lives, in your costume… given all the benefits that come with the celebrity role, you would wish and hope they all gave something back like this on a regular basis.

    • Christin says:

I truly hope there may be some that do this type of thing under the radar. The really vapid ones, probably not.

  18. INeedANap says:

Also, I’m commenting separately on the Lucy Pinder thing — I thought last time that rumor got posted, folks said she was dating someone else?

  19. Lama Bean says:

Gracious this just intensifies my crush on Evans.

  20. Lori says:

    Gah! Onions all around me…

  21. Christin says:

The children and parents need and appreciate this type of pleasant distraction. A little guy (age 4) in our family had to be hospitalized for a few weeks several cities away, and it was very hard on him and the parents. Such unfamiliar surroundings, machines, strangers, etc.

His care was excellent, and he fortunately survived a life-threatening situation. Yet other children face months if not years in hospitals. Any little break like this is wonderful.

  22. MAP says:

    LOVE LOVE LOVE

  23. Lucy says:

I love that they did this, and how excited they both genuinely seemed while doing so. The Chrises Are The Heroes The World Needs And Deserves.

  24. Ginger says:

I love what they are doing for the children. Kudos to them! Now if only Pratt would stop hunting for sport then I could get back on board with him. IF Evans is dating Lucy Pinder, he’s one lucky man!

    • Kate says:

Why would he be a lucky man? Because of her looks? I’ve read plenty of quotes from her and she isn’t a nice person at all (she said “thick people” irritate her). So, if they are dating, it would be all superficial, I’m sure.

      • **sighs** says:

When Brits say thick they mean stupid. I don’t know if that changes your opinion. I don’t know her from Eve, but I looked up her pics. She…uh…certainly isn’t going for class or subtlety, is she?

      • Kate says:

As a Brit, yes, I know. It doesn’t change my opinion. Saying someone is thick/dense/stupid is an insult. It makes her come across as someone who thinks her sh*t doesn’t stink. Meh…

      • **sighs** says:

She doesn’t seem the brightest bulb, so pot/kettle and all. Like I said, I really don’t know her at all. Just a quick google search.

  25. MtnRunner says:

This post made my morning. Eyes a little wet, no lie. After having my newborn hospitalized for nearly two weeks, this kind of thing means a lot to me as a parent. Bless them both for bringing joy to a child’s hard, scary experience. I wish more of the superheroes would do this on a regular basis.

  26. Scarlet Vixen says:

Gah, seeing that poor sweet baby in that hospital just breaks my heart. Even if she is too young to realize the awesomeness of meeting Cap and Star-Lord, her parents sure do. What an amazing treat for both the kids AND their parents, who need a bright light in their lives as well.

  27. sounds made up says:

He could do so much better than wannabe porn star Lucy Pinder. She was voted out first week on Celebrity Big Brother FFS. I thought she was with a friend of his at Disney? A guy who looked like his assistant. Makes more sense. Besides isn’t she still dating Daniel Hooper (for over 13 years now)? Chris Evans seems like a decent enough guy but he has the worst taste in women, because she looks like a pretty cheap date just like Minka Kelly or Vida Guerra. I can’t picture him bringing her to mom with a straight face so what’s the point? Maybe he’s just having fun until the right one comes around. It’s not going to last long anyway if her friends and “rep” (lol, seriously?) keep leaking stuff to get her name out there.

    • **sighs** says:

What exactly is his dating history? I don’t really follow him and the only one I know about is minka Kelly. Didn’t she date a baseball player as well?

      • sounds made up says:

He dated Lindsey McKeon around 1999-2000 (they were in FOX’s Opposite Sex together), Jessica Biel from 2001 until 2006 (who left him for Derek Jeter), then he hooked up with Minka Kelly (who left him for John Mayer, then Derek Jeter) and Christina Ricci in 2007, Vida Guerra in 2008, Emmy Rossum, Allison Ochmanek in 2011 and back to Minka Kelly in 2012. Probably lots of non-famous chicks in between.

      • InvaderTak says:

Sorry, I feel like a jerk but it’s kinda funny he got left twice by two seperate women for Derek Jeter. I’m a jerk I know.

      • **sighs** says:

He has 2 types, doesn’t he? Pretty boy likes pretty girls.

      • Stacy says:

I bet he goes for personality and brains.

  28. kri says:

Dammit I will not cry I will not cry!! Too late. I’m so glad that these kids had this. Just to be able have some fun when they are battling for their lives..jeez. I’m done.

  29. StormsMama says:

    😍☺️☺️☺️😘😘😘
    #waytogoCap

Love them for using their celebrity for good

  30. nicegirl says:

    I love Chris Evans.

  31. oneshot says:

    awwwwwwwwwwwww.

I’m so glad the movies I love are repped by good guys, Chrisx2 <333333

  32. H26 says:

They also had challenged fans to raise money for the hospitals and raised $27,000. 12,000 for Christopher’s Haven and 15,000 for Seattle Children’s. No media was alerted they were coming per their request. I am from Seattle so we had a lot of news stories yesterday about this story.

  33. MrsBPitt says:

These are two awesome guys!!! I hope with all my heart, those sweet children get well soon!!!

  34. FLORC says:

Would hit that. The muscles and the costume help me deal with the scenerio where he cries after *cough*.He’s hot here.
Pratt still kills because he feels like it and enjoys it in a way many don’t so he’s still gross.

  35. Penelope says:

    Chris Evans for everything. Sigh.

    Love them both!

  36. viki says:

Evan’s face seems to be getting bigger and rounder as he age, like Leo Di…. I’m glad he hasn’t let fame get to his head. Keep it humble, always. 🙂

  37. Esmerelda says:

    Sweet!
One of my 4yo nephews unfortunately has to deal with some hospital time… my heart goes out to all the families dealing with such an experience. Good on the Chrisx2 for being part of the forces for good!

  38. Katie says:

Chris Evans is beautiful to look at and apparently also beautiful on the inside too. Good for them. More people should be celebrated for the good they do

  39. LAK says:

    This story is so sweet.

  40. Jen43 says:

    Very heart warming.

  41. Darya says:

Just want to add my two cents for the work Seattle Children’s does. It is an amazing institution, they regularly provide over $100 million in uncompensated care each year and are considered one of the top pediatric research centers in the country. They also get amazing support from the community, financial and otherwise. Russell Wilson makes weekly visits. And before the cynics say it’s all for PR – he’s been doing so regularly, starting soon after being drafted, continued after becoming a starter, and then kept coming even after winning a Superbowl. Oh, and he still showed up two days after losing the Superbowl too.

From what I remember, the hospital is very protective of their patients and their parents – if they think a celeb or athlete is there just to get PR points they’ll get a quick photo op in the lobby with a few kids who are in good shape and they’re out. It speaks volumes that these guys are up in the rooms visiting patents with probably pretty serious conditions.

  42. serena says:

Ok, that made me cry a little bit. That was a really nice gesture.
