Joe Giudice on visiting Teresa in prison: we waited an hour until her hair was done

When I hear news of how Teresa Giudice is doing in federal prison, I imagine her as a castmember on Orange is The New Black. She’s staying in the same federal correctional facility in Danbury, CT as Piper Kerman, after all. So when Teresa’s husband Joe admits that she made him wait an hour to see her while she had her hair done, I picture her in Sophia’s makeshift salon. When Joe says that Teresa has a group of friends, she’s Red, doling out favors in exchange for loyalty, ruling with an iron fist and eventually losing power when she makes a false move. That’s probably not so far from Teresa’s life on the outside, considering how she ended up in prison in the first place.

Anyway Joe did an interview with Extra! He revealed that Teresa has women she hangs out with, and that she maintains her beauty routine, sometimes at the expense of her once-weekly visit with her daughters. My favorite part of Joe’s interview is when he admits that they haven’t reached a deal with Bravo yet for Teresa to return to Real Housewives of New Jersey when she’s released early next year. Joe says “The numbers would have to be very big in order to go back.” I hope Bravo calls their bluff and doesn’t hire Teresa again, but we’ll see. Here’s some of what Joe told Extra! His interview will air tonight. You can see a clip on Extra’s site. Joe looks as hungover and confused as usual.

How he appreciates Teresa now
When you have four kids, you have to stay strong. Her being away definitely makes me appreciate her way more, a lot more, and you know everything she did.

On how often the family visits
[The kids] email her all the time…every day, so, they email more than me. We try to make it up there every weekend and we bring her mom up every weekend.

On having to wait while Teresa had her hair done
She made us wait an hour to make her hair, to do her hair. That was a little annoying

On Teresa’s posse in prison
She’s got a little group she hangs out with and does her thing with every day, and who she goes to the gym with and who she hangs out with, and who does her hair and who does her nails… they have their little thing going every day.

On if Teresa will return to RHONJ
The numbers would have to be very big in order to go back so um, we’ll see… as of right now there’s nothing

[From Extra! Quotes via E! and People]

I don’t understand why Teresa would make Joe and her daughters wait an hour while she had her hair done. Did they come unexpectedly when she already had the dye applied? Did she expect a camera crew there? That whole scenario sounds fishy to me, but so does practically everything about these people.

E! also has details of Teresa’s exercise routine, which includes “cardio, bikes, weights and Pilates.” Their source claims that Teresa “Does not miss a day, she does it religiously. She is extremely fit right now.” So Teresa is hanging out with a bunch of friends, getting her hair and nails done, and doing pilates in prison. Such just punishment for scamming creditors out of millions.

Update: Teresa and Joe cover the new issue of US Weekly. They feature a photo of her taken inside prison and her style has changed considerably. I guess we know why she made her family wait an hour while she got her hair done.

      yea, ditto

This family is so gross. Imagine being the kids finding that magazine cover online in a few years, realizing you’ve been pimped out for mom’s prison bills.

  1. HiHeyHelllo says:

Wow that jail seems terrible. It’s no wonder they’re so under crowded theses days. Who would go back to that?

  2. Naddie says:

Is that a prision? Because I can’t afford half of these things.
P.S: An entire hour to look like this???

    • aims says:

It sounds like she’s at the spa.

      • Size Does Matter says:

Exactly. And the waiting while she got her hair done? Has he never seen her with undone hair? Would he have run screaming into the street at the sight of it? I need to not read these stories. Now excuse me while I go figure out how to get fake mortgages, make millions, and get sent to the spa for a year as punishment.

Here’s a description of their program for new mothers:

“Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, NY is a maximum security prison for women. Within the facility, there is a very special program called The Children’s Center for inmates who are pregnant upon incarceration and are serving short sentences for lesser crimes, usually drug-related. These inmates are housed in a separate building from the “general population” and are allowed to keep their babies with them until the age of 12 – 18 months, at which point the mother has completed her sentence and they both go home. The mothers attend classes in parenting, vocation, GED; some are beginning college classes.”

      • NerdMomma says:

That sounds completely appropriate to me. Mothers go back out into society bonded with their baby and armed with some education. Sounds like the best way to improve society, really.

      • bros says:

fantastic. they probably come out being better moms bcause of having to parent in a controlled environment where drugs and violence are not part of the equation. their children get to know and stay with their mothers, and the moms know they have something to continue working for when they are released. totally smart and humane and rehabilitative.

  3. Kay says:

Perhaps the judge will hear about her life at camp cupcake and have her moved to a different facility. Because this doesn’t sound like prison.

    • jwoolman says:

It sounds pretty typical for a minimum security prison for nonviolent white-collar type felons. Just limiting their internet access is probably agony….. 🙂

    • Esmom says:

Seriously. If you didn’t know she was in prison you’d think she was on a spa vacation when hearing about her routine.

  4. NewWester says:

Is that their daughter Gia, the oldest? I thought she was like fourteen or so? She looks in her twenties in that pic! Isn’t that a tad too much makeup?

  5. jwoolman says:

Even though it seems relatively cushy as prisons go, for her the constraints might be enough to keep her on the straight and narrow in future. She’s missing a year of her kids’ lives, among other things. She’s just making the best of it, as prisoners do.

I do hope Bravo doesn’t hire her again and the cameras vanish once she gets out. No need to reward bad behavior further…. It’s not as though she has talent that must be shared with the world. We can only hope she’s getting anger management counseling in prison, that show is toxic and fed her disorders. She should have enough on her plate figuring out the logistics of dealing with her husband in prison for several years and then him being deported to Italy, where she may not be able to go because of her felony. Her kids will need a lot of help dealing with it all. Don’t know if she has a clue about it all, but who knows? Sometimes a long timeout helps people get some new perspective.

    • Lindy79 says:

I doubt it, she’s a massive draw for them.
Watching the reunion show (filmed after the sentencing but before January when she started serving it), they were all acting like she was some poor hard done by innocent, it was appalling.

I’d like to think they will learn from this but given their line is still very much “it was the accountants/lawyers fault” and this seems to be supported by the people they surround themselves with, I honestly doubt it.

    • EC says:

Thank you for pointing that yes, although she is doing her hair and exercising, she is still in PRISON, and this is not a place any of us would go willfully. The loss of her freedom, the time away from her family, the public shaming, all of these are punishments, determined by law, for the crimes she committed and she is serving her time as mandated. I’m no apologist but prison does not ever sound like a vacation to me.

And yeah, sadly I think Bravo will take her back. She is a huge draw, and they will pay her. She will continue to live her phony, narcissistic life because Bravo continues to feed the beast.

    • lucy2 says:

I’m fine if Bravo wants to hire her – as long as EVERY PENNY goes to pay back their insane debts.

  6. BeckyR says:

Real Convicts of New Jersey. These people are freaks.

  7. Lindy79 says:

“and that she maintains her beauty routine, sometimes at the expense of her once-weekly visit with her daughters.”

Why would you admit to this?? These two ingrates one redeeming feature was that they claimed to be all about their kids

How is access to these in any way a fit punishment. All that’s required is that they have food, water, shelter and access to limited recreational activities. Its f*cking prison!

    • Celebitchy says:

To be clear, this was my interpretation of Joe admitting Teresa made him and their daughters wait an hour while she got her hair done.

    • jwoolman says:

It probably happened just once. He probably mentioned it as a funny story, to emphasize that she still is trying to keep up her beauty routines. It sounds as though the kids are in e-mail contact with her, which is good. I doubt very much that she would be so cavalier about her limited face time with her kids. She may be a goof, but she loves her kids to the best of her ability.

    • Lindy79 says:

Aha sorry I thought that was in the full story 🙂

  8. Lilacflowers says:

The prison hair salon may actually be job training for some of the inmates and not just her having her hair done in some cell. Prisons operate hair salons, barber shops, and cafes to develop job skills and work habits. But they know when visiting hours are so she should have known better than to be having her hair done when her kids were coming.

  9. Greek Chic says:

What kind of prison is this that has a gym and people do your nails? Looks more like a spa too me.

    • Kori says:

As someone noted, pretty standard for minimum security. I don’t really have a problem with it. They don’t super-plush pillow or TVs in their rooms but I think a gym (to keep energy burned off and them out of trouble) or grooming (someone noted that it’s cosmetology/hair training for some inmates) is that big an issue. I think those inmates get paid a nominal amount and it can be used in the prison store. I think they try to make it as much like a ‘real world’ as prison can be so they don’t come out hardened criminals for non-violent crimes. What sets it apart from a spa is that every minute of your day is regulated, you don’t have your freedom and you can’t come and go as you please. That may not sound like much, but to the average person who would serve time in a place like this, it’s a major life change–as it should be. They are there as punishment. But then I have a problem with how some maximum security prisons are run. I don’t think there’s much funny about race wars, rape, shanking, protection rackets and what not. That just makes violent criminals come out even more effed up and they’re unleashed on the populace. While they need security there, I wish there was also some vocational skills taught to those who are only serving a few years.

      • Mixtape says:

I agree with everything you said, Kori. A few exercise bikes and some nail polish doesn’t make a “cushy” life out of having no freedom, having your every move regulated, eating what you are told when you are told, communal bathrooms and bunking situations. Situations like these make you realize “cushy” is nothing more than being able to hug your kids whenever you want and having freedom of movement.

  10. Murphy says:

Teresa can’t be Red–that kind of loyalty has to be earned–she didn’t just get it from walking in and being all “Hey its Teresa from RHOJ bitches!”

  11. Neelyo says:

Ugh. I hate that they’re profiting from their crimes.

    • Kori says:

I don’t really have a problem with it if the money goes to creditors. They didn’t get their bankruptcy discharged so I believe they’re still on the hook and probably have liens and judgments. If they can’t earn money, then it’s those people who are really screwed. If it doesn’t get paid back and just goes back into their lifestyle, then, yeah that sucks.

  12. JenniferJustice says:

    Priorities.

  13. Suzy from Ontario says:

This reminds me so much of mother who used to make us wait on Christmas and birthdays for hours to have dinner or for her to arrive, all because she had to get her hair and makeup just so. It was horribly annoying and it made me angry, especially for my kids. To me, it spoke to what was most important in her life…her! She was a very shallow narcissist and Teresa sounds very much the same.

It’s all surface instead of substance with people like that and even prison doesn’t seem to be the wakeup call to get her priorities in order. Hair and makeup and looking good are fine, but they are not more important than your family! I feel sorry for her daughters. I’m sure she gushes about how much she adores them, but really it’s all about her and soon they will come to realize that, if they haven’t already.

  14. tback says:

Her 5 year old thinks she’s “at work”…..until she sees this magazine. SMH. She looks the opposite of glamorous but that doesn’t stop her fame wh-re ways!

  15. Hair and Nails? Gym? Email? Sounds like a country club. She can spend all day in a beauty salon, and still look like a neanderthal.

  16. Mixtape says:

One the one hand, I feel Teresa gives all of womankind hope–no matter how odd your features, with the right grooming, you can convince people you are beautiful and glamorous. On the other hand… there’s that whole fraud thing.

  17. anne_000 says:

It sounds to me as if the reason why she was getting her hair done around visiting hours was because she and Joe have planned to take photos and sell them to the tabloids. This is done as part of their income and their famewhore time.

As for not telling the 5 year old that mommy’s working while everybody else knows the truth and probably talks about it around her, though maybe not intentionally? Going to screw up that kid too, imo.

  18. Talie says:

I guess the rumors were true — no extensions and gray hair.

  19. Izzy says:

These people are nauseating on every level. No redeeming qualities. None.
