Tom Hardy & his rescue dog Woodstock star in a PETA ‘adoption is love’ ad

Tom Hardy “stars” in a new PETA ad with his beautiful dog Woodstock. I have mixed feelings about PETA and any celebrity working with PETA, but I’ll give Tom this: he LOVES animals. He especially loves dogs. He’s just one of those people. I think Tom Hardy is happiest when he’s on the ground with a dog, being licked and nuzzled and loved. And the feeling is mutual: animals seems to gravitate to him. Not to brag, but I’m one of those people too – animals always come to me (maybe it’s because I smell like bacon).

The PETA ad comes from a candid paparazzi shot, which makes me wonder if PETA even got Tom’s endorsement. The photos were taken last year, July 2014, when Tom was filming Legend in England. As he often does, Tom brought Woodstock to work with him and every now and then, Tom would stop and talk to bystanders and pose for photos with their dogs, or pose for photos with Woodstock. I’m including some of the Woodstock photos below. Woodstock and Tom have some kind of grand love affair, really.

The point of this PETA campaign is adoption, which is great. Tom adopted/rescued Woodstock in Atlanta back in 2011, when Tom was working on Lawless. Apparently, Woodstock was running loose on the highway and Tom rescued him. Now Woody is Tom’s road dog, coming with him on film sets and Tom’s London home. He also adopted a Pit Bull when he was working on The Drop.

Sigh… Tommy and dogs. I wish Tom would let me nuzzle him.

Nothing can improve the day more than a Bloke+dog post. I’ve gone all mushy. That is all.

    • Kiddo says:

That dog’s face is the picture of love.

    • Kitten says:

Yes, I’m in such a good mood now that it almost feels like Friday, but alas it’s Hump Day which is also….appropriate for a Hardy post.

    • Sixer says:

Exactly, both of you. The days this week on Celebitchy are getting exceeding muddled.

We’re doing a live-on-poverty-level food thing this week, similar to that food stamps one that GOOP so spectacularly messed up, so ANYTHING that raises the mood is most welcome. The Bloke plus dogski in particular.

    • Shambles says:

His puppeh is adorable, but I can’t stop staring at his hands. Ugh. Hump day Hardy Hands. *sighs*

    • Cee says:

We got Fassbender AND Hardy in one single day. This is truly a great day.

  2. Lilacflowers says:

    That dog is everything!

  3. jen2 says:

That dog is utterly adorable. The one where he is licking Hardy’s face in the main photo is priceless.

  4. AnkitaH says:

Such a lovely pic that 🙂

  5. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I was already in love with him, but this….

  6. Catherine says:

Legit question – besides loving Tom and his dog (which I do!) – how do these actors get to travel between countries with their dogs without the six month quarantine? I travel between the states and London for work and it kills me to leave my dog behind. I’m not a super, 1%, rich person and not an actor, but if I could find a way to bring my Jojo with me, life would improve 100000%!!! Any idea how they do this? Elizabeth Taylor used to do this but kept her dogs on her yachts – I’ve really looked into this! But sadly NO YACHT! Lol.

  7. Darkladi says:

After the dog finishes licking & nuzzling the Bloke, can I be next?

  8. Rory says:

That’s the second best looking couple in the world. (My dog and I take first place.) I’m disagree with PETA’s high euthanasia rate on rescue dogs.

I just saw Tom’s Locke and he was amazing in that. Innovative film.

    • Kitten says:

He was so mesmerizing in Locke.

    • Meatball says:

I did a report for a class about rescue and pet adoption and I was so shocked and disgusted by the high euthanasia rate in PETA shelters. 2 of my group mates had talked so highly of PETA, they were pissed when I showed them the information. From what I read, some of their shelters barely adopt out any pets, they usually just kill them.

      • mimif says:

I’m having a hard time believing that Tom did a PETA endorsement if he adopted a pit, as PETA supports breed specific legislation that would have them banned. Or “better off not being born” is how Ingrid clarified it, I believe.

      • Cee says:

        OMG this is terrible.

      • mimif says:

Yeah 96% euth rate in some cases, and often times euth’ing people’s lost pets the day of pickup, with no effort being made to reunite them with their owners. PETA is a f-cking horrible organization, rife with hypocrisy.

      • Jesmari says:

Sometimes Peta takes pets from homes and kills them.

      • lucy2 says:

Though I’m glad they’re promoting adoption, PETA’s practices are terrible. I think so many just jump on board endorsing them because they’re the big name, which is a shame.
I stick to supporting my local shelter and rescue groups, and other worthy ones that I come across, but PETA will never get a penny from me.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Locke was a fantastic film with a compelling performance. He was robbed of nominations during awards season

  9. frisbeejada says:

I really believe that dogs have an intelligence that is more empathetic than we can even understand. They can tell if you love them and they will always gravitate towards those who do. I love dogs and I love men who love dogs – sigh…

    • Rachel says:

I agree. Dogs know who loves them and will shower them with love in return… just like cats can tell when you don’t like them and make it a point to walk all over you.

Not that I don’t like cats (if it’s fluffy and has 4 legs, I want to pet it). But they do seem to know.

      • frisbeejada says:

They do seem to have a sixth sense don’t they? I have a Granddad who hated cats and an Uncle who loved them and every time Granddad visited he was always covered in the furry little buggers. I swear you could hear them sniggering…

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Rachel, they definitely can sense it. One of my aunts hates cats. Our most exciting Christmas dinner involved my mom’s Persian jumping onto my aunt’s shoulder while she was leading grace. My brother-in-law doesn’t like cats and mine follows him around whenever he visits and tries to sit in his lap

  10. renee28 says:

Hardy and Fassy posts in the same day. What did we do to get so lucky?

  11. Sabrine says:

Nobody loves you like your dog.

    • Nicolette says:

+1. Nothing like the love of a dog. There’s a bond that’s like no other.

      • MrsBPitt says:

My dog loves me when I look my worst, or when I’m in a bad mood! Dog’s really do give you unconditional love! I have been fortunate to have had four of the best doggies that ever lived. They gave me so much more, than I could ever give them!

    • bluhare says:

I agree a dog’s adoring look can cure just about anything.

      • Nessa says:

And the way they follow you around the house because they don’t want you out of their sight for a second.

  12. serena says:

    What a beautiful dog!!

  13. Angie says:

I am in love with both Tom Hardy and Woodstock! I love his love for dogs 🙂

  14. Lucy says:

Uhh, in the hypotetical case that PETA had used Tom’s name and image (and his dog’s) without his consent (which tbh I wouldn’t put it past them), wouldn’t that be…illegal?

  15. kri says:

That last pic is EXACTLY how I would look if I was sitting in the grass with Tom Hardy. OMG, that dog is one lucky creature! Pictures of TH and dogs..I’m happy.

  16. Tracy says:

A man and dog love story. Nothing better.

  17. Cee says:

I have 3 dogs and 1 cat. My 3rd dog is a pit-mix I rescued from the streets when she was 4 months old and she is the loveliest, warmest, gentlest dog I’ve ever met. She is fierce and so loyal, she still licks my hands and tries to nuzzle on top of me – even though she is now 5 years old and heavy.
Adopting her (and later on my tabby) has been one of the greatest things I’ve done.

  18. Mean Hannah says:

Gah! I can’t have a dog anymore – because I have a kitty who cannot be with other animals (cats and dogs). She can barely stand people, but I love her so much that I have to make do with other people’s dogs. So much love between those two in these pictures! I’ll just have to make do with begging for love from my cat who only loves me when she feels like it – and when I’m sick. That’s actually the only way my husband figures out that I’m sick – when he sees that our cat won’t leave my side and even follows me to the bathroom.

  19. FLORC says:

Great shots, but overall Tom Hardy just dropped a lot.
    Rant coming.

Ugh. Why aren’t celebs researching PETA and taking a stand against them? Or a bigger question. Why don’t people research the charities and groups they go on the record supporting?
PETAs whole goal and mission is to return the earth to the animals. And if an animal is too domesticated and could be adopted they see it as a mercy to end that life. Otherwise it’s a slave to man.
Great Tom loves the message of pet asoption. It’s a wonderful thing. PETA though is not about this. They just capitalize on it, but wouldn’t support it otherwise.

    • mimif says:

Article states it’s possible Hardy did not officially endorse PETA, but ITA with you on all points.

      • FLORC says:

        Mimif
That his image was allowed to be used says enough for most people. Even if it wasn’t a formal endorsement.
But I see your point. I guess it’s to all celebs that allow their image to be used and for those who willingly attach their name to an organisation they fail to understand, but are getting paid to support.

        I’m 100% for the message.

    • NOLO says:

anybody that thinks PETA is a humane organization is a naive waste of space.

  20. Lola says:

    OMG! Those pics area adorable!

  21. Penelope says:

I’m in love with the man and his dog equally. Happy sigh…

  22. meme says:

Tom Hardy is the hotness and his doggie is the cuteness and together they are irresistibleness.

  23. pass_the_pepper says:

you should google ‘PETA killings’. you guys are idiots.

  24. seesittellsit says:

    How hotter than the otter is Hardy . . . ! 🙂

  25. Tara says:

They’re adorable. New Tom Hardy fan here.
