Here are some photos of Beyonce and Jay-Z at the 2014 Met Gala, almost exactly one year ago. I didn’t love or hate Beyonce’s Givenchy ensemble here. In fact, I thought the whole look was rather disappointing, and she would have easily been one of the least-discussed major celebrities of last year’s Met Gala if not for what happened just hours after these photos were taken.
You see, Beyonce’s sister Solange was also at the Met Gala, and Solange, Jay and Beyonce all went out party-hopping after the gala. And then Solange violently assaulted Jay in an elevator, slapping him, kicking him and looking like she was going to rip his face off. That incident set off a domino-effect of speculation about Beyonce and Jay’s marriage, about Bey’s relationship with her sister, about Jay’s alleged wandering eye and so much more. It honestly took Bey and Jay MONTHS to get back to a point where they weren’t constantly justifying themselves with happy family photo-ops and vague public statements.
So you would think that maybe, one year later, Beyonce and Jay-Z would sit this one out. That they wouldn’t want to even test fate by attending another Met Gala. But you would be wrong. E! News’ sources say that although Beyonce isn’t on any of the pre-released guest lists, she’s totally going to come to the gala. E! News says “it’s not immediately known if Jay Z will be with her.” I’m guessing that Solange will definitely be there though. Solange fancies herself a Fashion Girl (and she does have legitimately better style than Beyonce). Do you think Beyonce and Solange would go to the gala together, without their husbands? Hm.

B is more of a fame whore then Kim k…of course she’s going…. All the attention will be on her due to last year. Also her and hubby never RSVP…they show up and are always the last on the carpet

Nearly all celebrities are! But I do think it’s valid to value each differently based on how they go about it. Beyonce’s awesome dance-in-my-room-like-no-one-is-watching-and-even-if-they-did-I-know-they’d-like-the-show? I’m cool with her promoting the shit out of herself if that’s what I get out of it.
I don’t even know what I get out of Kim K other than a tug at a kneejerk feeling of superiority that then makes me feel crappy because getting kicks from that sort of thing is a bad way to be 🙁
How is Bey more of a famewhore than Kim or even a famewhore in general?
She doesn’t get papped on an excessive basis. She’s been in the industry for over twenty years w/o any drug arrests or huge scandals. She works hard in her career with nearly everything she does connecting back to her work (her attending the Gala with Jay is a part of their brand as a power couple).
So how is she a famewhore?
Gotta disagree – she hasn’t sniffed her sister’s underwear on television, had a 72-day marriage for a tv show, butchered her body, or greased herself up to pose naked. Bey definitely courts attention, but she’s much savvier about it, and she would get attention even if she wasn’t good at playing the game because she has a career that people are interested in following.
Bey as much of a famewhore as Kim? I think you must dislike Beyonce in general if you really believe that. Even if we spoke about quantity Kim would have Bey beat by a mile and we won’t even talk about quality.
Celebrities who aren’t visible fade into obscurity pretty quickly.

After elevator-gate, if she didn’t attend it would be almost as newsworthy. She’s kind of damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t, so she might as well go.

Agreed – I loved Beyonce’s outfit at the time, and even more in retrospect. I think mostly her style is pretty blah, but she stood out to me last year (not only because of elevator-gate). Jay looked really good too.
And, of course they’ll be back. They have been fronting like everything is fine (who really knows what is going on) since the last year, I don’t know why they would stop now.

The challenge with Met Gala fashion is that the stars aren’t choosing their own outfits – they’re wearing what is chosen by their designer host. Some are lucky and get to give input, but many are just handed a gown.

I hate to, but I agree with Goopy. Its not about fashion, it’s about celebrity. And Anna Wintour. I wish they would oust her from everything somehow. She makes everything worse.

I loved what Beyonce wore last year.. but man looking at all the people arriving in town for The MET gala.. well let’s say most of them are there jsut for attention. Nothing more.
Beyonce and Jay go almost every year so I don’t see this year being different. They didn’t do anything wrong so why would they be shamed into not going? It’s Solange who made a fool of herself. I doubt she’s going. Also Beyonce and Jay attended Solange’s wedding a few months back. I’m assuming that all three were in attendance when their mother recently married. People are trying way to hard to start a scandal when there isn’t one.
