Nina Dobrev has a huge shoe problem in St. Tropez: uncomfortable or fine?

140434PCN_Party15

Just know, I never thought I’d be writing about Nina Dobrev’s poor feet this week. But here we are. Nina was in St. Tropez this week to attend Leonardo DiCaprio’s big fundraiser for his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. Many, many ladies showed up. Lots of models, obviously, and Leo’s official girlfriend Kelly Rohrbach, plus some actresses like Nina and Michelle Rodriguez.

When I glanced through these photos yesterday, Nina barely even registered, mostly because I was mostly looking for Kelly Rohrbach, and then secondarily I was like “WTF is Michelle Rodriguez wearing?” But these photos of Nina began trending on several gossip sites (this was the top story on The Daily Mail for several hours!). You know why? Because of this poor girl’s feet. Nina crammed her feet into a too-small pair of Stuart Weitzman heels and her baby toes were like “OMGGGG HELP ME” and her big toe was like “FML” and her heel was like “BLIIIISTER.” Here are some closeups and you can see some additional foot photos here.

OUCH. I’ve never really understood this, probably because I’m incapable of wearing anything this uncomfortable. If I tried on a pair of shoes that did THIS to my feet, I’d be all “nope” and “I didn’t even want to wear those shoes anyway.” The only time I can really handle foot pain is when I’m breaking in a new pair of sneakers and I get new-shoe blisters on my heels or baby toes (don’t ask, I’m not sure why either). But even then, I’m not cramming my feet into obviously too-small shoes. Did Nina choose these shoes last-minute? Were they someone else’s shoes? So many questions.

Her dress is Reem Acra, by the way. I like it.

when you’re famous you don’t have access to shoes that fit? Is it like sample sizes for clothing?

    • ORLY says:

Nina naturally has wonky toes. There are other pics of her where her feet look similar to this. I seem to remember one in particular where she’s wearing red shoes and her toes look broken.
Also try googling “Nina Dobrev feet” you’ll find pics of her in flip flops where her toes are a mess. Poor girl.

      • Rachel says:

I wondered is that was the case. Because the shoes don’t actually look that small. Her toes are not even close to hanging off the end of the shoe, and there’s a gap between her heel and the back of the shoe. So I don’t think they’re too small. I think she just has funky toes. As someone with very large feet for a woman, I know what happens when you try to cram your foot into a too small sandal, and it doesn’t look like that.

      • mootwo says:

her ballet background guarantees wonky toes.

      • FLORC says:

Ballet backround does not guarantee that. It certianly raises chances, but that’s it.
I have years of ballet and more specifically pointe. My feet and toes just aren’t that bad at all.
Some people have wonky toes that run in their families. I wonder if that is her case.

    • Sugar says:

Tom and Lorenzo talked about this and it is kind of like that. The stylists get the shoes from the designers and they only get a few sizes to loan out. That’s why celebs shoes never seem to fit.

      • Snazzy says:

AHHH OK! That makes sense, I guess. Although I’m not sure I’d ever agree to wear shoes that are too small and that smush my feet forever. Then again, I’m not famous and/or known for what I wear. And I’m ok with that. And so are my feet 🙂

      • ORLY says:

I usually agree with Tom and Lorenzo, but in this case, Nina’s shoes is not the issue. There are pics of her in many different shoes, and even flat sandals where her toes look just as bad.

  2. Gobo says:

They don’t look too small. It just looks like she has crooked toes.

    • Fran says:

Yeah, also when I wear impossibly high heels my toes do exactly the same thing in order to “grip” the surface without slipping too forward.

      • Lucky says:

Exactly what I was thinking, and they are metallic and if her feet were at all sweaty- slippery city

      • genevieve says:

But they do look like if her toes were straight, they’d be hanging over the edge.

Either way, even if those shoes fit, that kind of shoe is not good for your skeleton.

      • Liberty says:

This. I worked in a company where, due to massive problematic ongoing reconstruction of our floor plan, I offered to share my office with our marvelous stylist. Models trooping in all the time for fittings, etc. One of my staff was in charge of ordering garments for the stylist for her shoots.

I vote for slippery shoes in this case, been there! but also sometimes design houses only have so many prototypes pairs to send around for shoots and appearances (you find yourself scurrying to use them and rush them to FedEx or to a seat on the next flight out of your city to make it to the next magazine or show or agency) so it could be a matter of she braved the choice she was given, to deliver the look her stylist/designer wanted out there. I had a model holed up in my apt once for two days, wrapped in a quilt in misery, while my doctor was in and out dealing with her cut-up feet, and her two model BFF slept on the floor in commiseration of a common result of braving the styling.

    • Liv says:

I don’t get how you’re able to walk in those shoes. I can handle highheels, but not this high. Amazing. I’d look like a storch walking in them.

    • Eleonor says:

This, her feet are shaped like that.

    • bella says:

      yes, it’s called hammer toes.
some are born with the deformity that only gets worse with tight shoes and very high heels causing the toes to “grip” that way.
it will continue to get worse.
corrective surgery where the toes’ knuckles are removed corrects this and there is another less invasive surgery where the tendons of the toes upper knuckle is cut that releases the grip.
sounds like i know from experience? yup.
it’s not fun and it’s embarassing.
i spent most of my adult years hiding my toes…
      but now i’m free! 😊

      • FLORC says:

        bella
Fre those Toes! FMORC and his family all have them. They call them their “lightbulb toes” as it mimics the shape. It suits them those as his family are all very skilled runners. Like a family of webbed feet being skilled swimmers.

  3. GlimmerBunny says:

I like the whole look, including the uncomfortable shoes, but the hair is terrible. Why would she wear it like at the gym with a dress like this??

    • Dvaria says:

it was probably humid and hot. My hair is currently in the same style and I’m on my way to work. it only comes down in air conditioned offices during the summer time to avoid the poof

    • FLORC says:

      Glimmer
Her bun looks like how I sometimes where my hair in humidity. When you remove the bun your hair comes down in styled curles. It only fails in my experience if the ends of your hair are dmaged and dry. Then it comes out jagged and folded.

  4. Hissyfit says:

It’s not too small, it’s just way her toes curl when she’s walking.

    • Kiddo says:

I agree. I think the shoes are too high; when you have to contort your feet to wear them or walk in them.

      • Brittney B says:

Yes, this too… I find myself doing this to grip the soles of my open-toe shoes. My toes don’t stay flat naturally, but they’re definitely not flat when I’m walking in something slippery.

    • Mimz says:

It looks to me like she’s trying not to slide in those shoes, they don’t look tight at all. Believe me, i know what shoes that are too small look like. People are reaching.
      I like her whole outfit.

  5. NewWester says:

There are no words to describe what Michelle Rodriguez is wearing. Stacey and Clinton from “What Not to Wear” must be speechless and their eyes must have rolled out of their heads.

  6. embertine says:

I think she looks fantastic, particularly compared to the utter batsh*ttery of some of the other outfits. I think she just has wonky toes, and because the heels are very high they have got a bit squashed. I don’t think the shoes are too small.

  7. Goats on the Roof says:

Looks like the shoes fit. She just has crooked toes.

  8. JudyK says:

If my toes looked like that, I would not wear open-toed shoes.

  9. Tracy says:

The shoes aren’t too small, she just has a wickedly bad case of hammer toes. Fugly, for sure.

  10. Brittney B says:

Yeahhh… they might be a little too tight, but mostly I agree with embertine; her toes probably have a tendency to scrunch up and/or overlap. I know because mine do… after years of ballet and figure skating, my toes scrunch up like her left foot in the third photo. Even when I’m standing barefoot.

People used to fit me for skates and tell me to put my toes flat so they could determine my true size… but it takes actual effort and concentration to make them all stay flat. Poor Nina, I hope she’s not embarrassed by the stories about this.

  11. InvaderTak says:

There are grips made for heels that high that prevent that. Not sure why celebs don’t use them.

  12. Jets says:

Her feet are a hot mess… I remember seeing pics of an event she went to a few years ago and my eyes went straight to her feet, her toes are crooked and they want to hang ten on her open toe shoes, they’re pretty bad, worse than Jen Garner’s overlapping pinky toe, which is horrific by the way. It’s like there really is a God, when he made Nina he stopped short of making her perfect by jacking up her feet…

    • Enn says:

Thanks for making all of us with less than perfect feet feel like mutants.

      Signed,

Bunions and overlapping pinky toes on both feet

      • Dvaria says:

i have wide feet so i can never wear shoes like this even if i wanted to because they only make grandma shoes for wide feet these days unless you shell out the big bucks online and hope they work.

Aerosoles are my only friend 🙁

        wonky feet sisterhood 4ever

      • megs283 says:

Yeah, who cares! they’re feet! As long as they don’t hurt…I’m happy. 🙂 There’s a reason why Shallow Hal focused on someone’s toe as a reason to dump a girl…it’s SHALLOW.

      • I Choose Me says:

I’m bowlegged, my second toe is longer than my big toe and my little toe barely has a nail. What do I win? 😀

  13. Mrs. Darcy says:

Agree they don’t look to small to me, her heels are sliding forward. Just a torturous looking designer shoe. My feet do this in heels too, I have narrow feet and heels and fallen arches so I don’t wear high heels anyway, but when I try this is usually what happens. I really like the rest of her look, very Grecian and pretty.

  14. Lucy2 says:

She looks good, but the shoes look very uncomfortable and her toes look very crooked. I see foot surgery in her future.

  15. Antonym says:

Is Michelle brushing her teeth in the first pic? Does her toothbrush match her dress?!? WHat the…

    • InvaderTak says:

      Vaping.

      • Antonym says:

I think I’ve officially spent too much energy playing “what’s in Michelle’s mouth”. I zoomed in and I think I’m sticking with toothbrush. Vaping would make sense, but don’t ecigs have little glass sections? IDK, I’m not a smoker so I’ve only seen a limited number of these things…

      • ORLY says:

There are different kinds of e-cigs, not all have visible glass sections.

  16. Whatwhatnot says:

It’s not the shoes. It’s just the way her feet are. There were some pic of her on TMZ recently on a yacht in a bikini and while I thought she looked great, I didn’t notice her feet at first, but the comment section started noticing her toes and some people were going in and comparing them to talons and claws. So I took a closer look and sure enough, yup. And unfortunately for her they were right.

  17. cakecakecake says:

to me, its looks like her feet are like that when she takes off her shoes…like they’ve been like that for some yrs.

my bestie had to have foot surgery, her feet were similar, not as bad..wearing heels all the time does it to folks.

  18. QQ says:

Am I missing something here?? I mean I wear heels almost daily and all I’m seeing here is a girl in the midst of “gripping” as she moves forward in a very 2000s shoe…. someone point me out what is amiss if at all

The real interesting thing here is: so ..In a Yacht in Europe in the summer?? no one is gonna question the Lindsay Lohanness of this?

  19. M.A.F. says:

Wasn’t she a gymnast growing up? Explain s the feet action. Shoes are cute but I don’t like it with the dress.

  20. Georgia says:

I like the shoes a lot. She looks great to me. When I was younger I used to buy shoes in a smaller size if I like them and my size was not available.
    I regret that decisions now.

  21. lila fowler says:

That huge bunion that she has on her one foot is not helping.

  22. perplexed says:

Don’t have an opinion about her feet, but what is she up to career-wise now that The Vampire Diaries are over? Just curious.

    • perplexed says:

Correction: now that she’s left The Vampire Diaries. My bad, the show is not actually over.

  23. Vickie says:

She’s actually talked about how crooked her toes are before. Years of ballet and gymnastics.

  24. FLORC says:

I get the fashion. Wanting to be trendy or whatever. When I had a blister or lost a toe nail from dancing or running (TMI, I know) I wore floor length skirts or dresses and put on some flats. She should do that. When the fashion gets cast aside because your feet look in pain it’s time for flats.

  25. kimbers says:

Hope to see her on the big screen bc she’s truly talented, but seeing her play the hollywood game is scary and kinda gross knowing what some actresses do for roles. What makes some actresses successful is their look. These actresses (cough cough jlaw)dont LOOK like they’d do ANYTHING for fame…but they do anything and that’s what makes them good actresses I suppose. ..they fool us into thinking they’re sweet.

  26. Dorky says:

Her toes aren’t screwed up. They’re just long like fingers, and they’re at the moment these pictures were taken, gripping as she’s walking in heels. No biggie.
