Khloe Kardashian: The doctors first told me that Lamar only had ‘four hours’ to live

khloe2

Khloe Kardashian gave an interview to the Today Show and the interview aired yesterday. I suspect it was done days ago, if not more than a week ago. Khloe likely had the interview lined up to promote her book, and then after everything with Lamar Odom, media outlets have just been dividing their questions in half – one half about the book and one half about Lamar. In this interview, Khloe gets through the Lamar question at the beginning, then she spends the rest of the time shilling for the book. Here’s the video, and try not to get distracted by Khloe’s absolutely ABSURD overinflated lips.

When asked about Lamar, Khloe just sort of goes on a stream of consciousness answer about what it was like for her to get the call about Lamar, and what the doctors told her:

“They told me that he had four hours. It’s a horrible call to get. Getting to the hospital and knowing he’s in a coma and having to run these tests or make medical decisions — it’s terrifying…You have to make risk-and-reward decisions. Like, okay, well, there’s an 80 percent chance if we do this operation, he might pass away. But also, if we don’t do it, there’s a 90 percent chance he’ll pass away…[Later on] They kept saying, ‘He’s not out of the woods. You’re so optimistic. You’re so positive.’ They wanted to keep reminding me, ‘We’re nowhere in the clear.’ But I was like, ‘You guys told me he was going to die just a few days ago.’”

[Via Us Weekly]

As for how Lamar is doing now, Khloe says that he’s “learning how to walk again and learning . . . cognitive therapy and speech therapy. They think, like, within a year and a half to two years that, mentally, he might be fully recovered. But they don’t know.” She’s also maintaining that they will divorce, and “I’m still separated with him, but I’m just not expediting” the divorce papers because, in her words, Lamar “had no one else to make these decisions for him.”

How do you feel about Khloe having these kinds of conversations publicly? I’ll admit that when I just read the headlines, I was like, “Ugh, Khloe, it’s kind of tacky to talk about this stuff so publicly.” But… in the context of the interview, I can sort of understand it. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to say “no comment” or “you know what, that’s too private to discuss” about some of this stuff. Because right now, it seems like Khloe is promoting her book by selling out Lamar’s medical business.

    Quit talking Khloe.

    • LAK says:

      yep.

Selling her book by selling out lamar is exactly what she is doing.

    • Belle says:

She is a tacky no-class fame-whore. Capitalizing on your soon to be ex-husband’s fragile medical condition, especially when his possible brain damage is not allowing him to speak for himself, is utterly inappropriate.

I used to find this bunch ridiculous, but mildly entertaining, now I think they’re just disgusting.

    • Christin says:

Self-serving promotion, IMO. By her own (latest) account, he is far from cognitively 100 percent. Why is she airing his medical information?

Making medical decisions during a crisis does not equal it being ok to discuss someone’s private business in such a public manner.

  2. Lora says:

I can’t with her… She got so annoying in the last 2 years

  3. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Lips look like they’re about to pop through the screen and snatch breakfast from my plate. No Bueno.

At the end of the day Khloe could just say ‘no comment’. It’s not that hard. It’s not impossible. For all that we have heard of “Maybe it’s the Father, maybe it’s another relative” all of the major discussions about Lamar have come from none other than her. At this point Lamar is helping prop up the shilling of this book. It’s not like she’s done anything life changing. She got liposuction and a ton of plastic surgery. Without Lamar’s health to fill up the interviews she’s nothing more than a 5 minute commercial posing as an interview.

    • SydneySnider says:

I agree wholeheartedly, The Eternal Side-Eye.
They had a snippet of this interview on the Sunrise programme this morning (in Sydney), and what her moving lips look like is far too rude to describe here… Ugh.

    • I Choose Me says:

      This! All day.

Also, how can she look in the mirror and not see that those lips are ridiculous? HOW?

  4. ldub says:

    “khloe gets kandid”
lmao. smfh. what a time to be alive.
*walks out of room and off a cliff*

  5. swack says:

You tell them that you choose not to discuss his condition. It is not her job to do so. Also, she should have considered what his family want also especially when it comes to discussing publically his condition. I understand if a decision had to be made immediately and could not be put off then make it. But doesn’t seem like she considered anyone else when making these decisions. Just seems like she is using him for all the free publicity she can get.

    • Jwoolman says:

Exactly. She needs to shut up, she is violating his privacy big time, taking advantage of a man who according to her own accounts is not able to understand everything that is going on right now. I hope he recovers fully and gets away from her and her family. They can’t be trusted. I’m sure they are plotting to get his name on a contract for the show before he becomes too able to figure out how destructive they are. They are undoubtedly hoping that his memory for the events prior to his hospitalization never resurfaces, since he knew then that he had been betrayed and damaged.

Lesson learned: always have backup for medical decisions. If he had just designated at least one sensible member of his family or a good reliable friend to work with Khloe, things might be different. With clear instructions, the need to keep his father out of it could have been avoided.

      • swack says:

Jwoolman, throughout all these stories on Lamar I have said if you learn nothing else from it all, you need to have a directive on what you want. I get it’s not easy to make medical decisions. Being POA for my mom, I had to make the decision to amputate her right leg. It was not easy and luckily my one brother was in town to help with the decision. To this day I wonder if it was the best decision as it did not make her life better. I have learned much. My DNR not only covers my wishes not to resusitate but it also includes organ donation. I will now add that I do not wish to have any part of me amputated if I cannot make that decision.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree. I’m sure his poor kids aren’t thrilled she’s blabbing to every camera she can find.

    • Christin says:

That’s my perception of what she’s doing. He didn’t want his business aired before this happened, so why would he want private medical details known by the world? It’s storyline and PR material, IMO. And it all happened just in time for her book release.

  6. Loopy says:

    Shameless Family

  7. Lilacflowers says:

Totally inappropriate. And I’ve been in the situation where I’ve had to make decisions for a critical patient several times and I’ve been present when people have died. They don’t specify how many hours a person has.

    • swack says:

They can’t know. When my mom was in the last of her life, the nurse from hospice would only speculate and say she would probably not last through the night (mottling had begun).

      • Lilacflowers says:

They can only just call you and tell you the time is near. They can’t guess how long that time will be. I was told my dad probably wouldn’t make it through the night, even with life support, because organs were shutting down and they couldn’t assess brain damage – he recovered and was home 4 days later. But when his time finally did come 3 years later, the final stage took 20 hours from the time hospice called us to his last breath. My uncle’s last stage took 4 days. They know things are stopping but they can’t set a clock by it

    • Arpeggi says:

Exactly, there are no medical professionals that will ever give a patient or its family a precise life expectancy. That stuff only happens in movies or TV shows. You can be given a pronostic, you can be told that given the patient’s condition the likelyhood of making it through a certain period of time is low, but no doctor or nurse will ever say “you have 4 hours left to live”, simply because no one can know that! But again, can you expect a Kardashian not to lie?

    • ImJustMe says:

I agree. A lot of things she has said haven’t rung true for me, in my experience as a nurse. Maybe someone really did tell her this, but I have never seen this actually happen. Also, she seems to make all of this about her… not shocking, but still unfortunate.

    • lucy2 says:

But that doesn’t make for as good a story for the Today show! That family has never let a little thing like the truth stand between them and attention.

    • Caroline 99 says:

I actually work in a hospice care center and can attest to this. I have seen people that have all the signs that death is imminent, then suddenly they start to reverse the process and either recover or start the whole declining stage all over again. No way would we ever tell anyone how many hours someone has left because we don’t know. We can only say that the signs are there that death is imminent but it is impossible to say how long.

      • Christin says:

Thanks to those clarifying this. I thought such a specific timeframe sounded sketchy.

When my grandfather was very ill, a nurse told my Dad that he ‘might not’ live through her shift, which was ending at midnight. He died at 11:30. She based it on his co2 levels, IIRC.

When my mom was placed in ICU recently, her signs were all over the place (high then low heart rates and BP). They were planning to bring in a couple of specialists the next morning. I went home to rest a couple of hours, but called the ICU nursing station before leaving the house. All was about the same as when I left. She passed 15 minutes later. The same nurse I spoke to was with her, and truly seemed surprised. Suddenly, Mom would only respond to her name, and then she passed quickly and without suffering. All within 15 minutes of my call.

I have felt badly for not staying there, but I truly believe no one knew how quickly she would deteriorate. I keep telling myself no one probably really knows that it may be hours or minutes away.

      • swack says:

@Christin, my mom passed while I was driving my one daughter home from the nursing home. One of my other daughters said she probably waited until I was gone so that I didn’t have to witness it. That could be. They say children don’t pass away until they are sure their parents are okay with it. Maybe your mom was waiting so that you did not have to see that. I don’t know. Don’t feel bad about not staying there

      • Christin says:

It does make you wonder, doesn’t it. I have also heard hearing is the last to go, which made me very careful about what I say around loved ones who have appeared unresponsive. My cousin was in a coma due to issues with a brain tumor, and she woke up to accurately convey several things that were said.

When Lamar was allegedly comatose (I say allegedly because I’m not sure what to believe about his medical condition), I wondered what kind of things were being said that he could hear.

      • FLORC says:

Calls to family and friends when you can see a patient hasn’t long in hospice. A patient who is in a CCU? I just can’t believe doctors were that specific.

And in all my years in the medical field only the worst care providers stated percentages and timelines within hours like that. It removes hope and can sway opinions with senses of urgency.
That odds and percentages were stated deserves serious side eye.

  8. Castor & Pollux says:

I love how even in this, she manages to squeeze in a humble brag, “They kept saying how optimistic I was! Thank god I was there being positive because even the doctors had given up on him! My Ass of Lies Florence Nightingaled him back to life!” Ugh, what happened to you, Kylie? You used to have some semblance of a brain! Now she’s just as vapid and obsessed with herself as the rest of her awful family. Boo!

    • Tiffany :) says:

“My Ass of Lies Florence Nightingaled him back to life!” ”

      HA! 😀
This whole situation is so depraved, thank you for giving me a laugh.

    • Jag says:

Good point! (It’s Khloe, but they’re all interchangeable at this point.))

  9. Delta Juliet says:

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to say “no comment” or “you know what, that’s too private to discuss” about some of this stuff.

Yeah, except nothing is private for them. The more attention the better!

  10. LA says:

Can you all please stop helping her exploit Lamar? It’s disgusting. Please stop posting about it.

    • Santia says:

It seems like he only decent thing to do at this point.

It sounds evil, but I am glad her book has flopped.

    • Jwoolman says:

LA- No, it should be posted. This is actually important stuff – not because of any importance of the K Klan, but because the issues are far more general and this is a good opportunity to discuss them. That’s true for “celebrity gossip” always, kind of an adult version of Pokemon (lots of critters with different abilities and different development capabilities in contests). Humans love that kind of stuff, speculating about causes and outcomes from limited knowledge, it’s a human thing (like playing with a string for cats). Plus the K Klan reads everything about themselves, and they need another point of view.

You don’t have to play if you don’t want to. It’s ok to not read everything on the site.

      • FLORC says:

It’s about as OK as rubber necking. People do it and will justify the behavior, but it’s not ok to do so. She’s breaching his privacy for self promotion and the more attention paid the more she will do it. Like it or not gawking like we do here helps only those who want to pass time while rewarding privacy violations.

      • katie says:

        @FLORC…
Absolutely. They are exploiting him and his medical issues for their personal gain. I hope EVERYTHING they do from here forward FLOPS!! Just like her book. And NO strong doesn’t look better “naked” . just another reason for one of them to take their clothes off. Hell, the Slow One just posed naked! Hos, nothing but hos! Trashy, trashy, hos!

  11. me says:

I feel like she got them to give that poor man a lobotomy.

  12. Dawn says:

She just can’t shut the hell up about Lamar. I would be so angry with her if I was a part of his family. I hope as soon as his daughter turns 18 she takes over his medical needs if he still needs an advocate to speak for him and his best interests. All I know is right now the Khloe is not doing that. It is all about her and how HARD it is for her. Please.

    • SydneySnider says:

Aussie here. Ha any member of his family ever spoken about his condition, current state, prognosis etc? How old is Lamar’s daughter? This particular Kardashian is a komplete kreep. She, like the rest of them, has no concept of discretion, privacy, dignity or respect for others. I wish they’d all drop off the face of the earth.

      • Dawn says:

His daughter right now is seventeen. I am not sure when she will turn eighteen, but it must be in the coming year. None of Lamar’s family has been speaking out yet but a friend of Lamar’s said that she tried to make him sign a contract saying he would not speak to the press or mention North West at anytime or he would not be able to see him.

  13. Castor & Pollux says:

Also, NO ONE, absolutely no one could make those decisions for him? Not the mother of his children, his aunt, or his grandmother? Praise PMK that Khloe was there to single-handedly make the decisions that saved his life! She’s such a selfless saint!

I’m feeling very cranky and cynical this morning, in case you couldn’t tell. 😉

    • Lilacflowers says:

Or the legal reality that once a person is brought into an ER, unless they bring their written directives with them, the hospital must do everything to stabilize and most states have provisions in place that allow the hospital to petition the courts to make decisions when there is no alternate decision-maker in place and the patient lacks capacity.

    • Jag says:

No, because she was still legally his wife, so she gets to make the decisions.

And if he dies, she will get everything left in his estate, too. I don’t believe for one second this was just about being the only one to help him; it was financial as well, if he has anything left over from his partying.

  14. Nancy says:

The doctor grimly tells her four hours…..Klozilla in a gentle quiet baby voice, usually reserved for the confessional on her show…speaks into the device permanently affixed to her ear and dials up James Harden: meet me at Motel 6 in say 4-1/2 hours, no better make that five. That’s my opinion of Khloe Kardashian.

  15. NoWayJose says:

Yeah, nothing is too private for this family to discuss. I can’t wait until the world is finally done with them. I can’t stand these people!

  16. FingerBinger says:

Khloe saved Lamar’s life. What a woman.

  17. Nancy says:

Just wondering here, has science and medicine become so perfected that a doctor can say he will live for four hours? I can see, it’s a matter of time, or he isn’t going to survive. But, to say Khloe, Lamar will be dead in I’d say hmm four hours, so get your good-byes in. Maybe I’m naïve, but seems odd to me.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      You’re not naive. She’s lying

    • FingerBinger says:

Four hours is very specific. A doctor would never be that specific.

      • Nancy says:

I would think that Lauer or whomever was interviewing her would have called her out on that. Give her a really, a doctor said he will die in lets count down 7 6 5 FOUR HOURS? I imagine Shapiro is now working on what she will say on the recovery tour, since we all know dead in four hours will be heard a lot from Nancy Grace to Dr. Drew and all the talking heads. What a family

    • Ana says:

Lies. A doctor would never do those kind of comments.

    • FLORC says:

Doctors can and have been that specific. It’s not common and not good practice, but it absolutely happens. To say it doesn’t is naive.
Annoying how many are saying it doesn’t and never happens.

  18. Abbicci says:

Did she mean to say Psychic instead of Doctor? There is no Doctor on this planet that would come up with that kind of crazy prediction. For the love of all things holy, they can’t even pinpoint time of death with accuracy unless a pacemaker or something that collects date is involved.

But gifters gotta grift, famewhores gotta whore, and liars gotta lie.

    • Alana says:

Thank you for that. That time point is so ridiculous that there is no doctor that could say that. Actually doctors never want give definitive time especially for terminal situations . That is such a ridiculous lie. The guy was recently in a comatose state and the doctors predicted he would die in 4 hours ? WTF

  19. Jwoolman says:

I’m sure Khloe had a horrible time of it in those first few hours and then days. She had to make serious life and death decisions for someone she says she still loves. I had hoped it would help her mature, but apparently not. She seems to be right back in normal Kardashian mode, spilling details she has no right to spill on order to spin things in her favor and shill a product (in this case, her book that someone else certainly wrote). The vulgar language she has used online when criticized is more evidence of her deep immaturity – she reacts like a kid in junior high. She’s more than 30 years old now, she should be past that.

Promos I’ve seen online (haven’t looked at TV/video) seem to be all chattering about Lamar. Guess they forgot he told them repeatedly that he didn’t want them talking about him on their stupid show, and that he apparently truly went off the rails in Nevada when he heard about the episode where they continued to do so.

  20. Nev says:

    No keep talking!!!!

If she didn’t open up people wouldake up stuff. Ugh.

  21. A~ says:

Her fake lips are really upsetting.

  22. aenflex says:

This family effortlessly symbolizes a lot of unpleasant adjectives.
I try not to comment on stories about them. Just commented to comment that if we all stop commenting, maybe their presence on our favorite blogs will diminish significantly.

  23. My Two Cents says:

If she had any respect for Lamar, or dignity, she would have stipulated no questions about Lamar. Celebs do that all the time. The Klan sees his condition as a way to get them much needed sympathy and respect for standing by him. Which she blew the minute she opened her Botox mouth. If she wasn’t trying to snag $$ Harden at the same time, she would be claiming eternal commitment to Lamar and his health.

  24. MediaMaven says:

The best part about the online feed of that interview was the Bounty Paper Towel lead-in ad. The boy and the dog were adorable. The rest of it was delusions and lying out of her Ass of Lies.

  25. yep says:

She was positive in this situation!
Positive he would pass away, so she stopped divorce proceedings.
Positive that she could inherit his assets if he did, and his children would get a pittance, instead of the other way around. ( They could’ve contested, as she was divorcing him)
Does she say an effn thing about his kids? Her step children?
The only ones coming out of this, as decent human beings, are his ex and their children.

    • Christin says:

Plus, it was a storyline for their show. And publicity for this book.

      • FLORC says:

Because cameras have been seen and all these interviews were set up recently…Don’t like her or her family? Fair. Blaming for things you assume? Ugh. Logic and reason have no place with the K’s or many detractors.

      • Christin says:

I would safely assume that his health drama will be on the show in some form or fashion. The family did nothing to deflect all the leaks about his health, and she is answering questions about his condition now.

It’s absolutely their pattern to generate any and all publicity.

  26. Jayna says:

Shut up, Khloe. Just shut up about Lamar’s personal business and health.

  27. Roller 74 says:

Wasn’t this Lamars complaint all along? That Khloe continues to exploit their personal issues? When will this bitch learn? If I was laid up in the hospital and my soon to be ex husband was blabbing my shit all over major network shows, ya…we would be having words.

  28. dana says:

ugh… lamar is the worse off with khloe. she’s no shame.

  29. Lyn says:

He has or had 4 hrs to live. She nor family care nothing about Lamar Odom.
His biological family need to step up to the plate. Forget the dumb S___

  30. Amanda G says:

All that work done and she still looks terrible. Worse than before IMO.

  31. K says:

If she had any class she’d shut up. We don’t need to know this. It’s none of our business.

  32. Really? says:

Not even one comment in support of Khloe and the hell Lamar odom has put her through? Really People? I know the Karsashian brand is shallow, materialistic, opportunistic and spiritually and mentally and morally unhealthy to emulate; however, why don’t we step back and take a breath and assess what Lamar Odom’s responsibilities are here? Lamar CHOSE to take drugs over and over and over again. Lamar cheated on his wife over and over and over again. He refused the help and rehab that his wife , & family & some friends (his friends that are not strung out on drugs themselves) tried to convince him to take in order to save himself. Instead of taking the personal responsibility to fix and change his life for the better, Lamar CHOSE to take drugs and descend into a hellish lifestyle of drugs and sexual depravity until he ended up almost dead . Celebrities legally lose their right of privacy because they are public figures. Khloe admits she is a brutally honest person and owns it. (I love brutal honesty) yes, she is divulging personal medical information, but she is still legally his wife and can do so. I support it because the public (and our youth) should known what can happen if you make bad decisions. Lamar and Khloe had/have real love for each other. Lamar has put his wife Khloe through HELL. Give her a break. I support her when it is in regards to her husband. Otherwise, I think the Kardashian clan are lousy role models because they all shallow, narcissistic and batshit crazy.

  33. DIZZY says:

when I was separated and not divorced yet, I made a will with a lawyer specifying who was in charge of my estate…and it was not my EX-HUSBAND!
