Kim Kardashian & Kanye haven’t decided on a baby name, but ‘Robert’ is in the mix

FFN_Kards_KimParty_VMFF9_102115_51885315

As of right now, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West still haven’t named their son. Baby Boy Kardashian-West was born Saturday morning after months of misery and complaints, and you would have thought that Kim and Kanye would have already had a shortlist of boy names to work from. I mean, we gave them a shortlist! Some of those names were actually half-serious! I still think they won’t be able to do any better than Winter West or True West. But if you remember, it took them nearly a week to announce North West’s name. I hope we aren’t in for that kind of wait this time. And for what it’s worth, they may have already picked out the baby’s middle name: Robert. For Kim’s late father. Which… I think that’s really nice.

Naming a baby is one of the biggest decisions new parents have to make, so it makes sense that Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are taking their time choosing a name for their new son. A day after their second child was born, the star couple still haven’t chosen his first name — or, at least, they aren’t sharing it yet — a source tells PEOPLE.

The pair took almost a week to name daughter North, 2, and, shortly before her son’s arrival, Kardashian West told PEOPLE that they still didn’t have a name picked out. However, the source did say that Kardashian West reportedly told people at the hospital that she was going to use her late father’s name — Robert — for the child’s middle name.

“It’s like the last thing Kanye and I did when North was born,” she shared. “We didn’t name her for like seven days. I feel like it will just come to us.”

A source close to West also told PEOPLE that they hadn’t shared the new baby’s name yet.

“He never said anything about the name. Even if they had one picked out, he wasn’t going to share it. He doesn’t believe in telling anyone the name until the baby is born.”

The first source also reveals that Kardashian West did not have a C-section to deliver her baby, which was surely a relief. The new mom had plenty of support throughout the delivery: Most of her family members stopped by the hospital on Saturday to deliver gifts and see their newest addition. And, the source says, older sister Kourtney, who has three children of her own and to whom Kardashian West has said she often turns to for pregnancy advice, stayed with her sister throughout her labor.

[From People]

That was nice of Kourtney to stay with Kim the whole time. I wonder if Khloe was babysitting all of her nieces and nephews at the time? Anyway, as I said, I like the name Robert. I like the idea of paying tribute to the baby’s late grandparent with a middle name. I do sometimes wonder if Kanye regrets not doing that for North, by giving North the name “Donda” for her middle name or something.

People Magazine also reports that Kanye is “really excited” about the birth of his son. A source says: “He would be excited one way or the other, but he’s really stoked to have a son. He is very responsible as a dad. He knows how important it is for North to have a strong father in her life, and he feels that same responsibility to his son, as well.” The source also says that Kanye is “just happy and energized about the whole thing.” Regarding Kim’s pregnancy and the birth, I guess. I’ll give Kanye some begrudging credit: he was a much better partner to Kim this time around. During Kim’s first pregnancy, Kanye was barely around, but he stuck close to home and close to Kim this time around, and I think that made a big difference.

I just thought of it, but what if they name the baby “Don”? As a tribute to Donda? It’s a nice name and sort of badass (like a mafioso/Don Draper) which we know Kanye would like 🙂

So yeah , my current guess is Don Robert West.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think that would be nice, too, since he was so close to her.

    • Erinn says:

Donald Robert Kardashian-West really wouldn’t be awful at all.

I’d love to see a really really normal name come out of this. Both of my dads sisters are teachers and they keep reminding me that any potential children I have should be given names that aren’t going to make their teachers want to cry with frustration. They’re veterans of the Aiden Ayden Jayden Jaiden Jadon Braydon Braiden trend – names that they both loved when they started to trickle in, but lost some of that love for once they had multiple versions of each in their classes. Note: I think those names are perfectly fine- but holy crap it exploded all at once in popularity.

    • Erica_V says:

My suggestion last week was Donden Robert West!

    • Lady D says:

When I hear North I think of the cold. I’m voting Winter West for the laddie.

    • Sabrine says:

That would be a nice tribute to his mom. Maybe make it Donald Robert West. “Don West” sounds nice together. Could be too “plain Jane” for them though.

    • Arock says:

Saint. They named him Saint west. Eye roll.

  2. NewWester says:

I hear Kanye’s mother mentioned quite a bit and he was very close with her. But what about his father? Is there some estrangement there or has he passed away?
I like the name Robert, but I have a feeling it will be some over the top name instead

    • Santia says:

From his lyrics (“Hey Mama”), his dad wasn’t around at all. His mom was a college professor, very intelligent and accomplished, and he looked up to her a lot.

      • Yabby says:

No, his dad was around. His childhood was a traditional two parent home. I think “hey mama” was not based on his entire upbringing. His dad passed a 3-4 years back and he attended his funeral in Oklahoma.

      • FingerBinger says:

@Yabby That was his grandfather that passed away. His father is still alive.

    • Dawn says:

Ummm….I believe KanYe West’s father is alive and well and living in Atlanta. I think his grandfather passed away and that is the funeral they went to right after North’s birth. And I thought that his parents were divorced and he lived in Chicago during the school year and spent summers in Atlanta with his father…I am not a fan so why I know this is ridiculous!

  3. swack says:

I think using Robert for a middle name it great. My daughter picked her daughter’s name so that it would go well with my mom’s name – Irene. She wanted to honor my mom because she was really close to her. As far as the name, Easton has been bantered about and dismissed (just as North was) so I’m thinking maybe Easton.

    • Ellie says:

Yeah, everyone (even this site) has said “oh and just so everyone knows they dismissed Easton as a possibility!” But they denied North over and over and look where that got us. I hope they don’t — babies don’t need theme names, like they’re a litter of puppies or something — but Kim comes from a family that thought all of their kids needed to be named something that starts with the same letter, stripper names be damned. After naming their daughter North I really wouldn’t put much past them.

    • Janie says:

Oh please? We all know they have a name picked out, this is more games on their part. She wanted a boy the first time, had gender selection this time… They have a name. If they say it too soon, everyone will lose interest. Everything they do is for maximum effect. Remember who’s running the show, mama Kris.

  4. als says:

I think he stuck around more this time because she had serious health problems. Which, in itself is not a great reason to stick around.

    • Josephine says:

I think he stuck around because he has less going on in his career. Her “serious” problems were much more likely storylines. Women with complications don’t travel extensively, shop and do pap strolls daily, go out all the time, photoshop her selfies, takes hours to get her hair and make-up done and squeeze into high heels, etc…. Fiction.

    • swack says:

So she said she had placenta accreta yet had a vaginal birth and no hysterectomy (which would happen with placenta accreta). She stated that her delivery was a possible high risk delivery – obviously not as she went in Friday night and had the baby on Sat. I agree all these serious problems were for story lines. I also don’t believe she had pre-eclampsia as bad as they made it to be with North. If she did she would have been off her feet, just like this time.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

I was wondering about all the complications that she supposedly had but yet we would see her out n about in heels and spanxed up to her eyebrows.
Calling your job and lying about being ill because maybe you just can’t be bothered with work, that day is one thing. I think that lying about anything involving a babys health is disgusting. Not that I’m surprised or anything. Look who the source is.

      • me says:

TMZ is reporting that Kim had a very long and painful delivery. Not sure how true this is as TMZ is up the Kardashians’ asses.

    • FingerBinger says:

I think he stuck around because he knew it was a boy.

  5. Lilacflowers says:

    King Robert Baratheon West

    • Cluelesswonder says:

      Lol, omg. I love it.

    • Santia says:

You know, it would be exactly like them to go for something lofty, like King.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

I think they have a name and are just doing the oh we’re in crisis because we can’t find a name for our baby, bs to get people interested. They’re gonna announce so fd up name n lie again and say that their good friend Anna Wintour picked this babys name, also.

    • Chaucer says:

      Joffrey West!

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Everyone is different, and I don’t mean to judge, but I think I would have a name by the time the baby was born. I know some people like to “meet” the baby first, though. But still, I think you would have it narrowed down pretty much. It just seems weird to me to have a nameless baby for the first week. Anyway, I’m glad he’s finally here safely and I hope that’s Kim’s last pregnancy, because I for one don’t think I have the stamina to go through another prego-drama with her.

    • Mayamae says:

Kim seems fascinated by the BRF. Maybe she’s modeling their mode of announcing baby names. I think it also hyped up interest in the baby.

    • sally says:

This doesn’t quite compare, but as a kid, i found a stray cat. we kept her for few days before a neighbor adopted her. anyway, she was so feisty, playful, just had an around big personality for a little tiny cat.

i looked at names online and found Catalina (the first three letters spelled – cat!) and it’s Spanish — so my thoughts were the idea of a ‘salsa dancer, fiery spanish woman, etc’ all made sense ( and yes, i know, i shouldn’t stereotype a culture but i was 10 years old).

So to meet the baby, meet his little personality and find a name after makes complete sense to me!

    • LAK says:

i come from a culture of baby naming, so whilst one might have a general idea of what names they’d like to give the baby, no one, and i’m talking entire family, names the baby until you’ve met them ie baby is here. For the same reason, our names are uniquely our own and don’t change with marriage. on the down side, you could be stuck witha variety of terrible names. i guess that’s what deed poll is there for! LOL.

    • Joaneu says:

Personally, hubby and I had all our kids’ names chosen in advance. It wasn’t always so easy to agree but it works out, obviously. It is always a little strange to refer to your newborn by his/her chosen name because it’s all so new. 🙂

I agree with @Mayamae in that this ‘Guess the Name’ business is for publicity. I think they’ve had the name chosen for a long time, maybe even before they knew it was a boy.

    • swack says:

With my oldest daughter’s lost baby (a son) they had a couple names in mind but didn’t really pick one until he was born. Don’t think it is that big of a deal and probably happens more often than we think. We just don’t hear about it.

    • Ange says:

My mum did this. She actually had a name picked out for me ready to go but when I came out she decided it didn’t suit me at all and went with something different.

  7. Mimz says:

Well, you know i keep thinking of how I know worse names than “North, Easton, Winter or even True” West, in Hollywood. I mean, (she’s an adult now) Soleil Moon? Apple? Rocket? Cricket, Rainbow, Breeze Beretta … Royal Reign – courtesy of Lil Kim, Royalty… etc etc, I don’t think giving a directional name is that ridiculous anymore. I’d take North and/or Easton before the above mentioned.

Well now we get to watch Kim fight to get back in shape in 20 minutes.

    Congrats to them.

ETA: Moxie CrimeFighter, Pilot Inspektor. I rest my case.

  8. Tate says:

It took them two weeks to come up with the name North??

  9. Elisabeth says:

I call Bravo Sierra. That baby’s name has been picked and monogrammed on everything already. This ‘we can’t decide’ is to build up a paparazzi/media frenzy until they announce the name.

    • Dawn says:

Yep I so agree. I don’t think the rags are knocking at their door offering a huge sum of money for the first picture or the name. They are just trying to get some interest going and probably don’t understand why most people don’t care one way or another.

  10. Sara says:

I like the idea of family heirloom names, passed on through generations of children.

  11. Word says:

    Kock Robert West

  12. Word says:

    Kock Robert Pattinson West

  13. MrsBPitt says:

I think the name will have to be some form of royalty…just because Kanye, truly believes, he is some kind of “King” of everything….I think it’s going to be something like…yesus, reign, jermajesty, prince, etc….Come to think of it, it might be King Kardashian…you know he would so do that!

  14. Alexa de Vere says:

I’m still holding out for pharaoh Robert west- I can feel it in my bones!

  15. Citresse says:

Forget Robert as a middle name. Why not socks instead? You can’t jazz it up with a K letter in there but how ’bout sox?
    That’s what I’m talking about.
No Wait. Forget it. That’ll really put Robert K Jr over the edge and we don’t want that.

    • L says:

I just laughed SO hard at this. Socks Kardashian West. What a name.

      • me says:

I’m thinking maybe Dash West. I know that’s Mason’s middle name but I remember Kim got mad when Kourtney took the name because Kim said she had already called “dibs” on it.

      • Citresse says:

Well, sox (red or white) would just never really fit anyway (sorry-bad pun) since the Kardashians favor $$$$$$basketball$$$$$$.

  16. Cricket says:

I wrote my guess on the other thread but will repeat it here. Instead of using Robert as his first name, why not just call him Kardashian West and he can have nickname KWest pronounced Quest?

  17. Sandee says:

    Kim is becoming Kourtneys twin

  18. me says:

So they want to give their son a middle name but didn’t give their daughter one? In fact, they didn’t want to give North a last name either. Initially they wanted to just go with “North” and that’s it as if they already planned for her to be the next Madonna or something.

Well of course Kanye stuck around more this time…he has more time on his hands, and it’s a boy this time around and he just had to have an “heir” you know. Daughters, I guess can’t be heirs??? I hate that kind of mentality.

I think they’re going to call the kid “Seven West” or some other number and then lie and say how the number holds a lot of meaning for them when really they just liked how it sounded. Or they will go Biblical as this couple is so religious *cough* *cough*

  19. Annika says:

    Donye Robert West….?

  20. JustJen says:

Robert? ROBERT?? Ok, her dad’s name but also her brother’s name. As in, the brother she doesn’t speak to unless she’s making fun of him or dissing him. Idiots.

  21. Tarsha says:

What? A normal name? From celebs? NEVER!

  22. Tough Cookie says:

They will surprise us all and name the baby Bruce.
    Bruce Robert.
Nope…too normal. Robert The Bruce West.

  23. LC says:

I was thinking maybe they’d go with Omari Robert , after Kanyes middle name and her fathers name . Omari means first born son and ‘the highest’ . I figure they’d enjoy that since part of the reason they chose North was because it means ‘highest power.’ (According to Kim)

  24. Sunshine says:

They named him Saint as per TMZ.

  25. Colette says:

TMZ says his name is Saint West

  26. Brianna Bananapants says:

I just heard they named the baby Saint…is it possible?

  27. Chelly says:

Yup….confirmed as Saint West. Of course they would name him that *eye roll*

    • word says:

I think that name was thrown around early on right after she announced it was a boy. This is no surprise. LOL remember when Kim was dating Reggie, he played for the Saints then 😛

Also, it’s funny they named the kid after something the parents are certainly NOT. Or perhaps it’s a nod to YSL? Either way, it’s not the worst name.

      • Chelly says:

No, not the worst name but certainly pretentious. They honestly hold themselves up to this “holier than thou” standard when, as you said, they realllllly arent & they’re going to raise their children to have these overinflated sense of self. Theyre just gross

  28. lindy79 says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  29. L says:

Saint West….truly horrible. Oh man. That kid is going to grow up with an ego to rival Kanye’s.

  30. Dawn says:

We all knew that Robert was certainly NOT in the mix. God what an awful moniker to give a little guy and no middle name either.

  31. holly says:

just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…

    • me says:

No, no just wait a few months when Kim emerges wearing a t-shirt that says Saint on it, and a necklace around her neck with Saint as well. Barf.

Anyways, how much money does TMZ pay the Kardashians to get all the scoop? First to report she delivered, first to report the weight, and first to report the name.

  32. Ayra. says:

SAINT West… well then, I don’t even… ok. North and Saint.
We all knew Yeezus would put it in this direction, I think we were hoping a bit too much with names like Wild and Don as we are not yet on Kanye’s level.

  33. LO says:

Funny how Reggie played for the Saints… Just sayin’

  34. Ang says:

Damn the plastic surgeries Kimmy will get after this birth, she got larger than life. Saint West is beyond horrible as names go.
