Nicole Richie’s DUI trial has officially been postponed until August 16th so that her expert witness can testify. I was really hoping it would start today and someone would tell us if she’s pregnant. Or they’d use that as an excuse. I can’t stand not knowing! A quick rundown of Richie’s latest run-in, for which she will stand trial:

“On December 11, 2006, Richie was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after she failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence on California State Route 134 in the Burbank/Glendale, California area. Several motorists had reported a black Mercedes-Benz G-Class entering the freeway on the exit ramp and traveling in the wrong direction. She admitted to using marijuana and Vicodin before the incident.”

She really could have caused a ton of damage and taken someone’s life by doing that. I don’t think these little socialite princesses even think of stuff like that. Most of them seem incapable of thinking 2 inches beyond their own faces. It seems that Nicole’s lawyer is going to argue that the results of her drug test are in some way invalid or inaccurate. She was given a less-accurate urinalysis test instead of a blood test. Richie’s expert witness, Dr. Terence McGee, will likely give evidence refuting the validity of her test.

As much as I’m not wild about Nicole getting an extension, I think it’s more than fair. Expert witnesses are in high demand, and the better they are, the more the demand. I’m sure it’s legitimate that her expert is scheduled until mid-August. Of course no matter what, Nicole’s lawyer will still have to talk his way out of her confession. That’s going to be hard to do, especially with her previous conviction for heroin possession.

Nicole skipped out of the country yesterday to visit her boyfriend/possible baby daddy, in Canada. A lot of people seemed to think she was skipping the country, but she was actually not required to be present at the hearing today. And as dumb as she seems to be, I don’t think Nicole is quite so ignorant as to think she could disappear. After all, what would happen to the Baby Bump Watch?
