He was in the City of Lights to promote and premiere The Revenant, of course, but Leo has been able to spend some of this promotional tour having fun, whether it’s picking up four blondes in London, or giving some special attention to a fan in Rome. So when he was in Paris, Leo found time to see Rihanna. Huh. This time last year, the rumors were flying around that Leo and Rihanna were hooking up regularly. Then Leo sued a French publication for saying that Leo had gotten Rihanna pregnant and something something. Leo ended up winning that lawsuit, but it did cause people to wonder: why were those stories such a big deal to Leo? Why the fervent denials and lawsuits about an alleged hookup situation with Rihanna in particular? And now they’re hanging out as friends in Paris?
Rihanna met up with Leonardo DiCaprio during a club stop in Paris on Sunday – but the pair are “just friends,” sources say. The Oscar-nominated actor was seen hanging out with the “American Oxygen” singer at the Arc club in the City of Light in the early morning hours of Sunday. Rihanna, 27, is currently in Paris to film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets alongside her BFF Cara Delevingne, who also joined the singer at the club. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is in the middle of a European press tour for The Revenant.
A source tells PEOPLE that DiCaprio and Rihanna are “just friends.”
“She came by with Cara and said hi,” says the source, adding that Rihanna and Delevingne left the club together. This isn’t the first time the two stars have hung out together. In February of last year, DiCaprio was on-hand to help Rihanna ring in her 27th birthday in Los Angeles.
At the time, a source told PEOPLE that while the pair didn’t act like a couple, they were flirtatious.
“They would flirt and dance so definitely a little magic there,” the onlooker revealed. “They were definitely flirty and dancing, but not over the top.”
Just FYI: other outlets claim that Leo and Rihanna were actually seen canoodling/kissing in Paris. Some paparazzo got some shots where they look cuddled up together at the club, so I don’t know what to tell you.
True story: back in 2013, there were lots of rumors about Leo and Cara Delevingne too. Cara and Leo met at the Cannes Film Festival and there were rumors that they hooked up there, or that Leo really, really wanted Cara and she rebuffed him. As for Leo and Rihanna… I don’t even know what to think. My gossip instinct says that Leo and Rihanna did hook up at some point but that neither of them wanted to make it official. That’s what I choose to believe.

In his defense, Leo sued a French tabloid for falsely claiming he knocked Rihanna up and pressured her to not have the baby – heavy stuff. I’d do the same if I were in his situation. If the tabloids were claiming they were just dating, he wouldn’t have sued.

[A little backstory: Frederic Truskolaski (FT) owns French tabloids, Oops! and Crazy!]
1. FT publishes the false “Leo doesn’t want Rihanna to have his baby” story in his rag, Oops. Leo sues and wins.
2. FT goes on record claiming Leo is a “pervert” with a “racial issue,” that he “systematically goes out with Aryan-type girls,” and that he “could not stand the fact that our magazine was saying he was having a baby with a black girl.” So he basically calls Leo a racist, and the claim grows legs, which hurts Leo’s image. (Tbh, I’m not sure if FT says this after the first lawsuit or the second, but I think it’s after the first.)
2. FT then publishes yet another false Rihanna/Leo story in his other rag, Crazy. Granted, the story is about them moving in together, and therefore milder than the unwanted baby story, but FT literally just got sued for publishing lies and he does it again. Plus, he’s calling Leo a racist, and so…
3. Leo sues FT again. I would, too, just on the principle of it all. And also because FT seems like a nasty, lying piece of work.
Your Leo defense just got blown out of the water, ladies. Daily Mail is now reporting that his lawyers have sent out warnings to any publication that publishes pics of him appearing to make out with Rihanna at the club this weekend. Apparently the pics are being shopped around, hence his worry.
So yeah. Leos worst nightmare is to be said to be attached to a black superstar in her mid-twenties. And Rihanna needs to buy herself some self-respect. Quit the socialite nonsense, go back to the studio and finish that damn album, you silly girl.
