Taylor Swift in Versace at the Grammys: boring, budget or fabulous?

wenn23505813

Let’s get the superficial stuff out of the way first. Taylor Swift was set to own this year’s Grammys – she was one of the top-nominated artists, she was widely expected to win at least one of the big awards (which happened), and she’s one of the biggest things in music today. So why choose this Versace two-piece? Why try to dominate the conversation with a new haircut which is neither flattering nor cute? Every time Taylor tried to walk in this hot pink mullet skirt, the skirt billowed open revealing Taylor’s matching panties, and there was some bagginess there which made it look like she was wearing a diaper. As for the hair… it looks like Anna Wintour’s exact haircut. Taylor IS one of this year’s Met Gala co-chairs, so maybe that’s it? I’m all for Taylor getting a short haircut, you know, I just don’t think this is the cut.

Taylor’s date last night was her BFF Selena Gomez, which was cute. Selena wore a Calvin Klein gown and Selena seemed to have pre-gamed pretty hard, like she seemed sort of baked on the red carpet. Selena was just there as a presenter and Taylor’s date, and it seemed like they spent the whole night gossiping and having fun, which is cool. If you’re wondering why Calvin Harris did not escort his girlfriend… E! News says Calvin and Taylor are fine, they’re not breaking up, he was just in the studio and couldn’t get away, and Taylor was always going to bring Selena as her date.

As for Taylor’s opening… she did “Out of the Woods,” which (just my opinion) isn’t her strongest song off of 1989. The whole thing felt very jazz-handy and LIZA WITH A Z.

Taylor Swift – Out Of The Woods (Grammys 2016) by angelto_23

Then when Taylor won Album of the Year, she decided to say something directly about the Kanye West situation:

“I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame. But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.”

I’m totally fine with Taylor framing the issue this way, and speaking to young women about her experiences being underestimated, being publicly slammed, and having Kanye West take credit for her fame. I even enjoy the fact that she basically calls Kanye a sideshow. But… did she and Kanye ever have dinner and talk about his album or what? I guess this is Taylor’s denial that it ever happened.

Epic fail on the hair and outfit….She never had the most stylish hair anyway but she must have rightly upset her hairstylist as that is not flattering.
While she has a great body, you need more hips and a bit more flair to wear that skirt and top….she is like some playing dress up in her big sisters clothes

    • Locke Lamora says:

I LOVE the haircut! I think it suits her amazingly. I love the colour of her hair, I love the bangs, I love everything. This is the best she’s ever looked, facewise.
Anything below the neck looks awful.
Selena looked mediocre and was kinda weird in her interviews.

      • yolo says:

The color?? Really? I’ve always hated that boring dull ashy shade on her. She needs a slightly brighter blonde or so darker low lights in there to breaks up that tone. I’m not a fan of the cut either, but I hate bangs. I like the lob cut on her.

I was very much underwhelmed by the whole event. It seems to be all black lace and cut outs or prom reject dresses. The talent awarded was blah.

      • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, I really like the colour. I like that it’s ashy blonde and not the usual blonde we see and I like that it’s a solid colour with no highlits. I adore that haircut. I really do. I did look better in motion.

      • Donna says:

I love the haircut too! And I thought she was pretty restrained with her acceptance speech reply towards Kanye’s comments. I would have been very tempted to tell him to eff off and scream “I told you so!”

      • Elisa the I. says:

+1, I love the hair-cut and the color! She looks so much better, younger, more stylish compared to that granny hairstyle she had before. The outfit is ok, again I like the colors a lot.

      • pinetree13 says:

WHAT! Oh my gosh that haircut is totally 90’s News-anchor. It’s awful. It’s unflattering and makes her look like an Anna Wintour mini-me. Also she’s had that hair colour (or similar) forEVERRRRRRR. The cut is new, the hair colour is not.

      • Jaxx says:

I loved the haircut too. So much more that lifeless shoulder length stuff. Anna Win doesn’t own the haircut and Taylor looks nothing like her in it. She looks young and pretty and cheerful. Pretty much describes her music.

    • Alex says:

Yea this cut is a major no. Her slightly longer bob was much better for her face. This is too severe. The dress was also a no.

OOTW is one of my favorites from 1989 but Taylor was super pitchy last night. And she knew it too because there’s a video of her last night saying she messed up. She just didn’t nail it.

Speech was good. Even if she and Kanye discussed him mentioning her in the album there’s NO WAY I would believe she cleared those lyrics.

      • Rainbow says:

She looks like Anna Wintour and that’s not a compliment.

      • Shambles says:

“OOTW was one of my favorites from 1989 but Taylor was super pitchy last night.”

At this point, I don’t think it’s a case of “she was super pitchy on this one occasion because she was having an off night.” Her first album came out 10 years ago. She’s been doing this for a literal decade. There’s no excuse at this point, she just cannot sing live.

Talented businesswoman and lyricist? Yes. Singer? Absolutely no.

      • sing it says:

i agree with shambles. taylor is a talented song-writer but she just can’t sing live.

as for taylor’s outfit, i think i may be in the minority, but i really like it! the color combo is beautiful, and she showed some skin without doing the annoying cut-outs that are all over the red carpets these days. her hair is just awful though. it doesn’t work on anna wintour, and it doesn’t work on taylor either.

      • ell says:

she’s good live though, i’ve seen her live. i mean, she’s not adele singing wise (i despise adele’s songs btw, so i wouldn’t go to her concerts anyway), but she’s good enough. she had a off night, it happens. say what you want about taylor, but she does put a lot of effort into what she does, it’s not like she’s usually sloppy.

      • Kitten says:

I guess I’m not sure what people expect. To my (old and unhip) ears, Taylor has always seemed a small step above Britney Spears vocally. I mean, she’s a pop singer not a power ballad songstress like Adele or Whitney or Mariah. I guess I’ve always seen her as someone who has rather mediocre vocal talent who writes incredibly (and annoyingly) catchy songs.

To me, she sounded exactly how I expected her to sound.

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

        @ Rainbow-
That is nearly exactly what I wanted to say.

Why the hell would you want to emulate Anna Wintour?????

      • Alex says:

I didn’t expect much from taylor and nowhere did I say I did. 1989 is the only TS album I own for a reason. She was more pitchy than she normally is. She’s not a strong vocalist at all and I’ve never thought so.

    • HH says:

Every time the skirt billowed open it was incredibly awkward. Those panties made her nether regions look like a ‘Barbie crotch’. It was a very awkward shape.

      • Priya says:

I thought the crotch was weird. And it seemed a little padded or weirdly shaped. But she was able to pull off a blue leotard before and didn’t have crotch issues with that so I think the design was just strange.

I loved it otherwise. The pink and orange are just lovely.

      • Anne tommy says:

The top was for a beach, the skirt was for….nowhere I can think of. Yuck.

  2. Jess says:

I liked the make up and the jewelry. In love with them.
    The rest…no.

I also enjoyed her speech. It was classy

    • Thinker says:

I love this whole look for the Grammy’s. It screams “pop star” and she’s pulling it off. She looks awesome, glowing, bright and cheerful.

I’d take this look any day over the homeless-nightmare torn and feathered catastrophe designed by the side show.

    • Sarah(too) says:

I agree. I liked the whole look and I LOVED her speech. Take that, Yeezy!

  3. Kath says:

Come on, there is no way Taylor Swift would have agreed to (a) be referred to a bitch in Kanye’s song, (b) let him take credit for her fame, and (c) be OK with him saying they should have sex one day. Only in Kanye’s delusional mind did that conversation ever happen.

On a side note, her outfit and hair are truly heinous.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

She really did shut him down with that in the best & classiest way ever, which is probably the best way to do it to piss him off. Not naming him & completely embarrassing in front of all of his peers.

As for the outfit yeah that was not good at all, idk who her stylist is but c’mon I’m sure Taylor can do better than that. I wish her hair grows back soon!

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

That was the biggest, most pointed burn at Kanyuck ( without uttering his name) that I could conceive.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

Exactly. I’m a little rubbed the wrong way by the article saying Taylor is in denial about the conversation. Uh, yeah, because if it happened, it happened in Kanye’s mind only. Let’s not cut him any slack here. The lyric was way out of bounds, and I can’t imagine Taylor approving being degraded that way at all.

      • Thinker says:

Seriously. Especially since he seems unhinged and at this point is ranting and raving all sorts of nonsensical crap. Why should we give him the benefit of the doubt? I just don’t see Taylor sitting at dinner with him agreeing to those lyrics. He’s demented.

      • Priya says:

Seriously. Kanye isn’t the genius people let him think he is.

    • Talie says:

Agreed. Knowing what we know about her…there’s just no way. She also has no sense of humor, so even if it was tame, it still wouldn’t fly with her.

    • HH says:

I actually think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Maybe I’m giving Kanye too much credit, however I just think its beyond nonsensical (even for Kanye) to: a) take shots at the same person when that’s what sent his career spiraling the last time; and, b) makeup the lie that she cleared it.

I think they discussed the possibility of a lyric or a slightly different lyric and that conversation went well. However, I don’t think Taylor approved those specific lines.

      • Goats on the Roof says:

Have you missed what Kanye’s been saying lately? The bit about being the greatest artist of all time? The digs at Amber Rose and her kid? Telling Mark Zuckerberg that he is wasting his money building schools in Africa and to instead donate a billion to ‘Kanye West ideas’? Kanye is nothing but nonsensical these days. Yeah, you’re giving him too much credit.

      • ell says:

“Maybe I’m giving Kanye too much credit”

you are. kayne has been trying to piss off everyone lately, taylor was just the latest recipient.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

      Agreed.

We’re going to take the word of a man who told people to stop wasting their money donating to Africa just because we sometimes dislike Taylor? Nah. The conversation didn’t happen. Just another delussionsl Kanye drama.

      • Gabby says:

Let’s not forget Kanye saying he had phone conversations with Obama, only to have Obama deny everything later.

    • Josephine says:

Why wasn’t Kayne there? He was nominated, and it seems like one of those events that Kim would love to go to. I guess I could see him refusing to go unless he thought he would win, but I find it strange that she didn’t push for it so she could wear some tacky outfit.

      • Annaloo. says:

Remember, kanye is going to be president in 2020, so…

      • CatJ says:

He tweeted to the Grammys that he wouldn’t go unless they gave him Album of the year, and they tweeted back, “Don’t Come”.

And that was mild in the bizarre rambling tweets he has been issuing lately……
and Kim is still hiding under massive fur coats…. so, no.

    • Otaku fairy says:

Yeah. I thought about it, but I don’t believe Kanye’s full story. He might have told her about the “I made that bitch famous” part of the lyric, but most likely didn’t tell her about the more misogynistic part about how he’d get to fuck her because of it. Taylor Swift is the same person who pulled a Madeline Albright over some annoying but harmless comment Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made about her love life. And Kanye isn’t above delusional lies. I am surprised that she handled it so well, since Kanye’s remark is way worse than others she got offended by.

    • K says:

Agreed no way she signed off on those lyrics. I loved her speech, whether you like Taylor or not, what she said is very true for women there is always a man waiting to take credit so it’s great to always remember your work got you your success which is true for her. Plus she again took one of his gross tacky attacks and delt with it in a graceful, pointed and tactful way. She shut him down hard and didn’t even bother to name the loser.

with all that praise her hair and dress look horrible just horrible. I mean inexcusably horrible.

      But the speech was perfect!

  4. aquarius64 says:

Liked the way Taylor slammed Kanye in her acceptance speech. Kanye needs to stop trolling her and publicly bumming Mark Zuckerberg for 1 billion dollars and get his finances straight. Otherwise, the other half of Kimye will be putting out feelers for a divorce attorney and husband no. 3 – at the same time.

  5. amelia says:

    i don’t believe in Grammy’s anymore.

    • Jib says:

Epic fail on the highly produced performance – in a musical show, one would think you could hear the singer over the music. You couldn’t even hear Taylor, which is probably a blessing. Were the people in the audience really thinking she was good?

How anything by Taylow Ssift can wil Album of the Year is nuts, even in a weak year. He music is catchy bubble gum, not award worthy. Yes, she’s popular, but even pop music can do better than that.

      • pinetree13 says:

I agree, if the award was “Most popular album of the year” then by all means. But not if they mean “Best album of the year”.

    • Kat says:

The Grammys are an absolute farce by this point! I really don’t know what kind of black magic Taylor Swift uses in order to clean up at awards shows, but when her brand of pre-canned mediocrity is valued over REAL talent, like Florence and the Machine’s, then you really know that the Grammys are fixed…or the voters are deaf. Either way, I’m put off.

OK, if anyone has read my posts before, then they know I think Swifty is a horrible human being, so any good press she gets makes my skin crawl, mostly because I can’t stand the injustice of seeing vindictive people succeed. That said, I will contribute something “nice” — she’s a master of the PR game, so yes, her acceptance speech did make her appear to be a classy and halfway decent person (emphasis on the “appear”, though).

      • ToxicShockAvenger says:

Seconded. I do agree that a “Well-played, Satan’s Skipper Doll. Well-played.” is in order.

  6. malvina says:

Hate the dress but LOOOOVEEEE the new bob. I’m actually thinking I might copy Taylor and get the same bob. She looks very pretty.

  7. Poop says:

Haven’t we seen this look from her before?

The thing I hate the most about her is her desperate “Girl power” moves. Just relax and don’t try so hard. I like her bob, but she does look like a young Anna Wintour now!

  8. Sabrina says:

I hate this dress and think this was one of the worst looks of the night. Most of the Grammy’s fashion this year seemed terrible.

    I liked Selena’s dress.

  9. Marie-France says:

I don’t like Taylor or her music, but I love the outfit minus The slit. Lovely colors, but The skirt should have been closed. I actually think The hair is ok as well. And The speech was classy.

  10. paolanqar says:

Anna Wintour wants her wig back. I was suffering second hand embarrassment for her performance. She sounded tone deaf.

    • lucy2 says:

It’s so Anna Wintour. And not in a good way.
I found her performance a little cringey, so much posturing and throwing looks around. She’s way too aware of herself, if that makes any sense.

But I can get behind a comment on people trying to undercut and take credit for your success.

  11. GreenieWeenie says:

every time I see a clip of her performing, it’s like….do people really like this ish?

  12. Mimz says:

She looks terrible with that outfit and that haircut is a FAILED attempt at staying twee when your face is saying I’m going to my 30s. It’s not about the cut, it’s on her. It’s just a big no.
Selena on the other hand looks breathtaking IMO. Love this dress.

    • Shambles says:

I think Selena is one of the most beautiful young celebs out there today. Ridiculously stunning. I have a major girl crush.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

agree with Mimz. Taylor actually looks older, as if she is in her 40s with that dated haircut. The color is dull, but so is she. Selena, whoa!!!

  13. Mia V. says:

Girl Power, blah blah blah, all the producers on her album are men.

    • Meryl says:

That’s what I noticed too. She was surrounded by men on stage. I hope in the future she explores other producers. If she gonna preach it to any outlet who will listen, she should back it up as well.

Awful styling. Awful haircut. Awful performance. Classy acceptance speech, but Kendrick was robbed.

    • Rachel says:

PREACH. No one heard a peep out of Taylor when Kanye was shooting off his misogynistic mouth about Amber Rose. What happened to ‘there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women’? Is Amber Rose not a woman? Taylor’s brand of feminism is white, self-centric and self-serving to the core.

I don’t mind the short hair, but it’s aged her about 10 years overnight. Maybe that’s what she was hoping for.

      • Franny Days says:

Rachel, when has Taylor Swift ever gotten involved in a feud between other celebrities, much less exes? Why in the world would she have any right to get in the middle of a feud between Amber and Kanye? That is ridiculous. She got involved when Kanye mentioned HER and Kanye took all the credit for HER success. Her getting involved with any Twitter rant, especially one mentioning butt play would not be her place at all.

      • Otaku fairy says:

I would have loved to have seen that, even though if another woman pop star had gotten involved people would have called it “seeking positive publicity and making it about her.” (The go to complaint). I don’t think she was obligated to get involved, but it would have been very feminist and set a great example if she had.

      • Fiorella says:

She does not comment on everything kanye does or says, and Amber did not need her help at all.☝🏼🙀

      • Susan says:

Well said Fiorella. To get involved in every Twitter argument…with Kanye alone…would be the work of five full time jobs.

    • ell says:

so do you reckon is easy for a musician to have women producers in her team, since there really aren’t very many at all? it’s hardly taylor’s fault.

    • Scal says:

I don’t know if this is a fair complaint. I don’t think she was saying ‘girl power’ or ‘hey women we are strong and awesome’. Her comments were about working hard and then someone else taking credit for your success. I don’t see what that has to do with her production team (although yes, there needs to be more women in the producer side of things)

    • Scal says:

Also not all the producers on the album were men (they were just the one’s at the grammys). If one read’s the credits for all the producers (and there were a ton) Imogen Heap was also listed as a producer on the album.

  14. NewWester says:

Wait, Taylor Swift is co-chair of this year’s Met Gala? Does this mean her BFF(sarcasm) Kanye and his fashionable wife Kim will not attend?

  15. Aussie girl says:

I don’t hate but I don’t think it does much for her slim build. I was surprised at her speech, in the passive aggressive response to Kanye’s song. It was done classy and in Taylor style though and she had every right to respond. It’s weird I thought Calvin would have been there to support her.

  16. Classy and Sassy says:

Hate the outfit; love the bob.

  17. Sarah says:

I really wish she and her brand of “if you disagree with me or don’t support me, you are against feminism” would go away. I am also tired of her milking the Harry Styles “relationship”.

    • Anne says:

yeah. she’s quite immature in her righteousness. hopefully, she’ll grow out of it with time.

      • Naya says:

Shes 27, right? If she hasnt figured it out by now, even with the piles of think pieces directed at her, she never will.

  18. Fran says:

So, she won AOTY after a 2 year campaign for it. Congratulations. Can she go away now?

    • Cynthia says:

LMAO! She waged an effective campaign for this award. Shoutout to her strategy I guess 😉

    • Shambles says:

All of f*cking this. Retreat to your kitchen to bake cat cookies and write songs about Calvin in your Hello Kitty notebook, plz.

  19. Bishg says:

Nope. The bob is hideous. It ages her.
It doesn’t even look good on Anna Wintour anymore (and she’s FORTY years older than Swift). I don’t see why a girl in her mid-late twenties should wear such fuglery.
Plus, considering that Swift enjoys her childish high school queen-bee role so much, it doesn’t match her personality.

    • Pandy says:

I think the bob ages her as well. And the dress did nothing for her body. She rarely makes a misstep fashion-wise, but this was it. Selena looked sloppy and as dull as she usually does. There was a woman in a country band with the exact same color blocking as Taylor, only the top was full and it wasn’t that silly split skirt/panty look. Her dress was much better. Wonder if they saw each other there lolll.

      • Bishg says:

I also agree that the dress does nothing for her body.
        She looks malnourished and frail.
Also, the nanny pants are ridiculous. She has a killer body (except the very obvious bolt-ons) but she’s rarely able to flaunt it.

    • pinetree13 says:

What I don’t get is…she can afford to have her hair styled everyday. So why pick a hair cut that doesn’t need any styling? Why not go for something more high maintenance when you never have to do it yourself? My lame pony-tail would be a FAB DO EVERYDAY if it wasn’t me that had to flat iron it.

  20. Luciana says:

Taylor looked like she always does, which in my opinion is just plain boring, and I also thought of Anna Wintour when I saw her. Selena on the other hand was very pretty, loved the color of her dress.

  21. Sisi says:

    selena looks nice…

  22. mellie says:

I’m ok with the outfit, I do love the hair though, however, I am 43 years old and rock a ‘mom bob’ myself… I think her speech was appropriate and since I believe Kanye is certifiably insane, I’m team Taylor on this one.

  23. Frank says:

AOTY lol just lol Grammys are in did a joke … On that Kanye had it coming though.

  24. amelia says:

Body language of Selena Gomez suggests she is trying to get away from swifty.

    • Meryl says:

Hmm, disagree. Selena looked like she was loving being cozied up to Swift all night. She looked genuinely happy for Swift as she won as well. After all, Taylor’s success benefits Selena’s brand a lot too.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yeah gotta agree with this. They did seem distant at one point a few months/years ago and maybe that’s because Selena was still clinging to blond surfer douche, but now they seem to be two friends one of whom is genuinely happy for the other.

      • Alex says:

yea the distance was because of JB for sure. Its why Demi seemed distant as well because no way could she be around two people that were drinking and abusing drugs like they were

  25. Ummm. says:

Ha. I loved the outfit and make-up. Even the hair would be ok if only she didn’t have bangs.

I love Taylor. She’s a boss and should be admired for dominating her business.

  26. MSat says:

I have almost the same haircut, except I always go a bit shorter on the bangs, Bettie Page style, and the back is shorter than the front so it’s kind of angled more towards my face. I happen to think I look fierce as hell.

  27. Nancy says:

She has a cute face and fabulous body. Sat in her usual seat with her bff who looked like she was going to the prom. Gave a speech telling Kanye she is the fairest of them all. Won a boat load of awards. Yet still she annoys me to no end. Maybe it’s the Mary Poppins thing she has going on or her smug little smile, or the fact she is in her mid 20’s and still acts like the homecoming queen. But she has the formula for success. I just wanted to see Adele and Rihanna.

    • Anne says:

She annoys me too. I think it’s because she affects this “fairest of them all” act in a VERY self-aware, smug way. She hits a lot of false notes for me. And look at that first picture – there is a distinct air of ARROGANCE coming through.

    • ToxicShockAvenger says:

THIS. Mean girls, squads, breakup rants…. these belong on Teen Disney, not coming from a 26-year-old woman. And knock it off with the underwear up to your ribs because DAMN THAT’S CREEPY. Although it DOES support my “Taylor is Barbie” theory: endlessly dressable and posable, plenty of money for DreamVettes and palominos, available in a Best Friend Beach Bash! Playset, and somehow sexed up but sexless at the same time. (It’s the grannies. Girl, if your stomach’s cold, try a shirt.)

  28. Anne says:

AWFUL outfit. The pseudo-panty thing is not a look. It’s a catastrophe. Good lord. In their efforts to be stylish, these famous people sometimes lose the plot.

  29. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Taylor looks like Taylor all the time, shrugs.

I don’t think there’s ever been a style moment that impressed me in all of her years as a musician. So long, short, curly, straight, it’s all vanilla scented meh.

As for her speech, this was one of the few times she was appropriately girl-power. Kanye tried to have power over her with sex. By suggesting a. She wasn’t and hasn’t always been more successful than him and b. That in some twisted alternate reality she wouldn’t sexually submit to him as thanks.

He wouldn’t have pulled that crap with a man. If he had beef with a man he’d have likely gone after the guy’s current/previous girlfriend for the attack so screw him.

    • Otaku fairy says:

+1. That crap gets directed almost exclusively at whatever woman of the moment to dismiss her success and dismiss her as a person.

  30. Cricket says:

I liked the black jumpsuit outfit she wore when she sang better. I wish she went for a textured bob similar to Adele’s hair – I love Adele’s hair, it looks great on her and I think would be flattering on anyone.

I think it is suspect no Calvin in the audience nor twitter rebuttal to Kanye. What happen to her knight in shining armor fighting her social media fights for her? Break up time?

  31. QQ says:

Presidential wife hair by way of anna wintour and Grammy Granny Panties…is bad that Selena being basic actually bested her

The performance thing was horrible, she looked like she cosplayed a dead tree …with a Lowered mike no less

  32. Emily says:

The top pic is giving me old school Lady Gaga vibes.

  33. Brunois myman says:

I LOVED Taylor’s hair, not so much the dress but totally loved her hair, thought she looked beautiful!

  34. ell says:

‘As for the hair… it looks like Anna Wintour’s exact haircut. Taylor IS one of this year’s Met Gala co-chairs, so maybe that’s it?’

    lol

i love taylor, but this haircut is horrendous, luckily hair grows, and i hope she doesn’t keep it. dress is also horrendous, she doesn’t have good taste in red carpet clothes, which really bugs me because her street style is so pretty and on point. i wonder if her stylist (or her) thinks she must go big for events. she really doesn’t. love that her date was her mate as i’m all for celebs not flaunting their relationships.

selena’s dress is tacky, she looks beautiful though.

  35. Betsy says:

That outfit… I really like the colors.

  36. CornyBlue says:

I cannot believe this white devil won over Kendrik Lamar. Congrats on the mediocrity I guess. Good for calling out Kanye.

    • Tiffany says:

It amazes me that I hear the crap about her being a role model. What the hell has she done in the past few years to even show that she is.

  37. SJO says:

Who actually listens to this chick?!!!!!
Her music is so damn saccharine it must cause diabetes.
Help an old girl out because I just don’t get it.
    Never have never will.

    • Jib says:

I’m older, too, and I don’t get it. I mean, Madonna was transformative, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, and Taylor Swift? Not even in the same Universe as they are talent and/ or performance wise. At least Beyoncé, who also can’t sing, is a heck of a dancer and entertainer as was Britney.

Confused by the success of this minimally talented, self-promoting young woman. I think Mommies of young girls are the reason for her success.

  38. Pansy says:

Can we talk about her beating out SO many better albums?? He’s a newcomer, but have you all listened to Chris Stapleton yet? Holy, dude is awesome. Bluesy Americana.
And then there’s Tay, whose songs consist of her singing the same words over and over. I’m blaming this one on Kanye.

  39. Eden75 says:

The haircut is not my thing, but whatever floats her boat.

What I don’t understand is this thing about covering her belly button when she was in her undies on the red carpet. Her baggy diaper undies. WTH is up with that? Give it a rest girl and go back to the prom and wedding dresses. You don’t do edgy well at all.

    • perplexed says:

“What I don’t understand is this thing about covering her belly button when she was in her undies on the red carpet.”

I don’t get this contradiction either.

I get that she has a more “elegant’ physique/body, but I really don’t see how her current outfits are THAT different from what the other pop stars are wearing these days. Okay, she’s not as extreme as Lady Gaga, but that underpants dress looks like something Britney might have worn (although now that I think about it, Britney would save that for her music videos — I don’t know if I ever actually saw her underpants on the red carpet).

    • Scal says:

THIS. When she was climbing the stars I was saying ‘whoa underwear flash!’ It was distracting.

  40. lizzie says:

she looks stupid. it looks like she walked into the salon and said “i’ll have the 60 year old part-time northern reflections cashier please” her dress is childish and her makeup sucks. even her shoes are ugly. what is this?

  41. Aarika says:

I thought she responded with class but it didn’t make a huge impact for me because I think she is addressing someone who is not of sound mind. As for the hair and fashion? Atrocious. She really should let go of that shade of blond.

  42. Shane Falco says:

Pansy, Chris Stapleton is pretty damn amazing. Should have won more than he did.

  43. Micki says:

She is a savvy businesswoman, who can’t sing and can’t dress.

    • Tiffany says:

No. Her parents and the people on her payroll are. She gets tooooo much credit for that title and is an insult to ones who really are.

      • CornyBlue says:

Definitely. Her mom is an investment banker. Only very savvy and smart people become investment bankers.

      • Allie says:

Thank you! The girl didn’t even graduate high school but we’re expected to believe she knows about business and finances without any experience prior? She has a team that makes decisions that she gets credited for. Also, enough with the “she writes her own music”. She has s team of co writers just like every other pop star.

      • Micki says:

Look, that may well be true, but still to know whom to listen to requires to use your head. I don’t know if her mom( or dad or grandma) writes her songs as well and I do find them infantile but even I (as non fan) must admit that they are catchy. I may give her side eye for lots of things like her squad-ing, her pettiness, her type of feminism, her half ass type of revenge but I cant fault her Business sense. And if her parents and team had so much power why do they let her to be so immature in all her dealings outside music?

    • ell says:

of course, let’s undermine women’s achievements. so predictable.

      • Allie says:

Oh God, now we can’t criticize a woman?

      • Tig says:

Exactly- she has the good sense to evaluate advice and select good people for said advice. And if anyone thinks family is any guarantee, think again. As the saying goes “A fool and his money…”, and so far, she is no fool in that regard.

      • ell says:

you’re not criticising, you can do that all you like. you’re saying that her achievements aren’t down to her, and that’s undermining.

  44. Bobafelty says:

This outfit was really popular at my prom…in 2001. Blech.

  45. Daria Morgendorffer says:

I’m not a fan, I think her whole look last night was way too “try-hard” but one thing that I don’t think anyone can take away from her is that she’s handling the Kanye West thing with class. She isn’t addressing it directly, but she made her statement. Props to her for being classy and mature about it.

    • Susan says:

Well said Fiorella. To get involved in every Twitter argument…with Kanye alone…would be the work of five full time jobs.

  46. Otaku fairy says:

I never liked the cropped top with long, poofy skirt look, and the hair is awful. Selena looks great.

  47. Rachel says:

Cartoon He-Man hair. That is all.

  48. Spike says:

Tube top and taffetta. Taylor, the seventies are calling and wants the tube top back.

  49. kri says:

She looks like the g-damn Little Dutch Boy. NO.

  50. TreadStyle says:

Huge no to everything. The hair is awful and the outfit is very look at me and my bolt on’s holding this tiny top up. And it all looks like satin. Very confused by her whole style here.

  51. holly hobby says:

Yes she looks like Anna Wintour. If you want to look like a senior citizen then more power to her? The dress reminds me of Mardi Gras – in a bad way.

  52. Bootsie says:

I’m a bit disappointed you didn’t cover her totally obnoxious, totally over-the-top reaction to Ed Sheeran winning best song for that boring funeral dirge I can’t remember the name of. It was the most explicitly Taylor Swift reaction I’ve ever seen – she basically Kanyed his big moment.

  53. word says:

I don’t mind the dress, the colors are very on trend. I like her haircut, just not a fan of the new color. I’m glad she said what she did in her speech. Why should you keep quiet and let some motherf*cker talk sh*t?

    • Ennie says:

Kanye really, really deserves to be ignored. That will hurt him the most.
I also think she could not keep quiet after what he said because it is a bad example for her young followers.
She really needed to say something against his rant. HE thinks he “owns women” some way or the other, or that they “owe” him something because he was an a** to them. I am glad she said what she said on TV.
If something like this happened in real life, not in celebrity world, his craziness would not deserve even one thought.

  54. Carli says:

I’m not a strong hater or lover of T-Swift, but I am really over her fake reaction faces when she wins. It feels so contrived. I get that she doesn’t want to appear entitled or whatever but I would so much more enjoy watching her authentic reaction when she won than all the “OMG, I am so shocked I won!” fake faces. Am I a smug bitch or does anyone else feel me on this?

    • artpunk44 says:

Completely co-sign. I find her both contrived and conniving.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

      No you’re not alone.

Especially when she’s in competition with other people with genuine talent and quality her fake reaction faces just seem even more ridiculous. No one outside her fanbase thinks her music is any kind of quality so she really needs to stop feeding the negative press about her faking shock.

  55. Magpie says:

Calvin must be in the dog house – you can come to the after party, but not walk the carpet. If things were good, of course she’d walk with her rich trophy boyfriend.

  56. kri says:

I finally figured out that she looks exactly like one of the umbrella decoration thingies they put in your drinks at someplace like a Sandals. That hair looks like a straw umbrella and the rest…..no.

  57. Finis says:

If you ever wore a tube top to the Grammys, you might be a red neck.

Honestly, that was my first thought when I saw her outfit.

  58. Betti says:

I know i have a cold and my ears are blocked but is there something wrong with the audio in the video of her Grammy performance? I could hardly hear her over the backing music and she was really struggling to project her voice but then again she isn’t that great of a singer. Demi Lovato (who knew she had pipes like that) showed how it should be done – Tay Tay take notes.

  59. serena says:

I’m happy she called him out in that sort of way! Her dress was okay, not great, not bad either. I hate this sequin trend so much!

  60. Pancake says:

She looks terrible. She really does. Tall and thin people like Giselle and Charlize manage to look great, but something’s always missing with Taylor. She always looks awkward and gangly, like a 12 year old with implants.

  61. TOPgirl says:

I think she looks really nice. But I’m glad she’s standing up for herself in regards to crazy kanye.

  62. Jayna says:

I love her haircut. Katie Holmes had the exact same cut back when she was with Tom, and I loved it on her also.

  63. Tamara says:

How did this turd win best VOCAL pop album over Floence + the Machine? Seriously?

  64. ToxicShockAvenger says:

Do we really need to keep asking questions like “______ or budget?” If “budget” means tacky or poorly made, why not just say tacky or poorly made? Really getting fed up with the implication that “budget” – a word synonymous with self-control, rational thinking, and financial survival for most people – is bad.

  65. amelia says:

She is the mayor of narcissistic town. Her holier than thou attitude is yucky. But few songs of her are really good in that they are relatable and simple . i remember being upset when i heard her never grow up song in my hostel room i was missing my papa. A place in this world is inspiring. she is talented but not Grammy winning musical genius others are more deserving of that honor.
