Perez Hilton takes on Miss California on the Today Show

The whole controversy over Miss California’s answer to the gay marriage question has grown into an all-out feud between her and Perez Hilton. Perez recorded a video in which he called Carrie Prejean a bitch (along with the “c” word), and is flaming mad. The Today show had an interview with both Perez and Prejean (separately), and it was clear he was barely able to keep his anger down.

Matt Lauer pointed out that Prejean was asked her opinion, and she answered it honestly. But Perez says there are better ways she could have answered – ways that would not have lowered her score.

“I personally would have appreciated it if she left her politics and her religion out of it. Because Miss USA represents ALL Americans. I think I gave her the easy way out. She could have answered that question so many ways. She could have said, ‘Well, I want to leave my politics out of it and I think it’s important for the states to make those decisions for themselves.’ And I think that would have been a better answer.”

[Transcribed from video]

And he’s right, that would have been a fair way around the issue. Kaiser noted that Prejean didn’t seem prepared for question. In defending herself on “Today,” she said that while other judges said she should have given a vague answer or said something in the middle, “When I’m asked a specific question, I’m going to give a specific answer.”

Matt Lauer also asked her if she’d give a different answer if she could have a do over, to which Prejean immediately said no, noting, “‘It’s not about being politically correct; for me it’s about being biblically correct.’”

Unfortunately her answer wasn’t exactly biblically correct, in the sense that the Bible also says a lot about tolerance and acceptance of everyone. It’s also widely open to interpretation. I’m not going to pretend to be any exceptional Bible scholar, but I do go to church every week. I am proud that my church belongs to several organizations that actively seek out and support GLTBQ people to let them know they are welcome, equal additions to our congregation. A few of the groups are also actively campaigning for marriage equality. There are a wide variety of responses to homosexuality within the Christian faith, and I hope people know that Prejean’s beliefs are not representative of everyone’s.

I’m with ya Jaybird. She’s being judged on how she answers it, not WHAT she answers it with.

I mean, that wasn’t the only controversial topic that was questioned. (BAILOUT?) and the bottomline was it was answered poorly.

Go her for having an opinion but show some tact. And please stop telling him you’re gonna go pray for him like he’s some kind of diseased monkey that needs healing.

  2. dovesgate says:

I can agree with the opinion that Perez is a diseased monkey that needs healing. I hope thats who she was talking about.

  3. Kaiser says:

    “biblically correct” ???

Now she’s just making me stabby.

  4. Sauronsarmy says:

Perez Hilton is only in this because its getting him more attention not because he actually cares. Remember this is the same douche that draws cum satins and penises on celebrities faces.

  5. heehee says:

If everyone wants their position respected, hers should be respected too.
    Hello?
… it seems like a lot of people say whatever is PC just to look good or be supported- to grab some of the glory of the hot topic of the day. “Yeah Im really making history here by agreeing with the crowd” and they dont even know what theyre talking about.
I prefer someone who has their own mind, and sticks to it, whatever that means.

ANd calling her names inst making her feel welcome or showing any kind of acceptance now is it, Perez. How can you then turn around and demand better for yourself??

  6. Celebitchy says:

She was really classy on the Today show. I don’t agree with her, but she handled herself much better than Perez.

  7. rbsesq says:

Ok, I don’t agree with her opinion on the subject, but he asked her a question. She answered it. His question did not lend itself to a “vague answer” as he put it. If he didn’t want to hear her answer, he shouldn’t have asked the question. If he wanted to dock her points because he didn’t feel she supported her answer that’s one thing. To dock her because he didn’t agree with her is wrong. He says she should have left her politics/religion out. Like he did?!

And it’s incredibly unprofessional for someone who was asked to judge a competition to comment in that way on one of the candidates. He’s bashing her for bringing her politics/religion into the competition, but he’s turned this into a personal vendetta! And he keeps spouting off about Miss USA is supposed to represent Americans, what about American ideals. Isn’t the fundamental foundation of our society the right to believe what you wish and speak your beliefs freely?

  8. Kerry says:

While I DO NOT AT ALL agree with her opinions on Gay Marraige, I cannot go on an all out tirade against her for her answer to the question. She could have lied and spouted some sh*t about how everyone should have the same rights (which is true if you ask me.) but instead she decided to answer honestly for herself at an event where her opinions happen to be the opposite of the mostly gay/gay-loving crowd/judges. (Really, Who else watches pagents?) Perez just wants to drag this out as long as he can (He keeps thinking that he is a celebrity) to get all the attention he can before it runs out and people stop caring about this entirely. Becasue then he has to go back to sitting at home all day doing nothing but talking sh*t about everyone that he is really just jealous of. If Perez can call Miley Cyrus (a 16 year old child) a Wh*re all day than Carrie can say that he shouldn’t be allowed to marry another man. Both statements are completely horrible to say but one of the amazing things about this country is anyone can say/believe in whatever they want. (Even stupid people like these 2) Just because we do not agree with them does not mean that they do not have the right to say it.

  9. annie says:

the bailout is not as “touchy” as same sex marriage, c’mon, she did great, we need more brave young ladies like her. Perez, you did,nt leave you’re politics out. you asked what she thought the states”should” do, not what the states “can” do under the constitution.

  10. connie says:

ugh, i CANNOT stand perez and stopped reading his site years ago. Someone made a good point earlier that when the presidential candidates gave their opinions on this subject there was no media firestorm as we have seen in the past few days. I personally do not agree and in terms of being “biblically correct” Jesus also said “he without sin cast the first stone”. Either way it his her opinion and she has every right to express it. like Voltaire said “I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it”

  11. Wonder Woman says:

Wow sad, she is just making perez look like the better person in the war. lmao

  12. EML says:

I think it was more the “choice to marry gay or straight” part of the statement that is so bothersome, at least to me. Her saying that just shows how she knows nothing of the issue. 6 states and D.C. allow gay marriage. More states allow civil unions, but that slightly different. Either way, there isn’t much of a choice for those homosexual couples who live in the other 44 states and that is why her answer was, in my opinion, offensive. She answered honestly, good for her. But she also showed her ignorance and she’s (deservedly) getting speared for it. If she doesn’t want backlash, she should make sure she’s educated on an issue before she opens her mouth about it.

  13. Carena says:

So is it “biblically correct” to parade around on stage on TV in a bikini?

  14. Sal V says:

Sticks and Stones, Sticks and Stones

  15. Pufft says:

Shoulda, couda, woulda. Let bygones be bygones. She could have said a lot of things, but here’s the thing: SHE DIDN’T.

Although I don’t agree with her opinion on Gay marriages, I salute her for sticking to her statment instead of apologizing for what she believes in. We all need to take a chill pill and give the poor girl a break. You’d be surprised at how many people around the world share her belief and are opposed to gay marriages.

I agree with rbsesq and Kerry. Perez Hilton is a douche bag and why we continue to entertain him is beyond me. As a judge, especially as a judge that asked the question that got the worst answer, he should cool it. He is taking this whole issue waaaaaay to personally. He bad mouths celebrities everyday, drawing cocks on their pictures and calls them every name known to men, yet he is quick to condemn someone that doesn’t dare share his views. Got off your high horse already Perez.

  16. Giz says:

She gave JUST the answer I would have expected from an American beauty contest contestant. And this is not saying that I agree or disagree with her response. It’s just what I would have expected! Of course now that she answered they way she did.

Ms. Prejean will now have more of a career than the woman who won the title. The anti gay movement will see to that. Hilton is only helping to push her career it along! So who exactly is he shooting in the foot? Certainly not Prejean!

One wonders how Vanessa Williams would have handled such a question back in the day!

  17. smith says:

Wow I’m torn. I don’t agree with Miss CA’s politics or “bibl-tics” for lack of a better word. But man, the look on Perez’ face after she answered the question was worth his weight in gold. That just about made my day. (Okay, it’s been a slow day).

  18. Trillion says:

I can’t stand Perez Hilton. I don’t even see how that was a question fit for a beauty pageant contestant in the first place. Sure, she’s not the brightest bulb but neither is he. He strikes me as an attention-by-any-means trawler.

  19. Trillion says:

Oh, also, I think we all know she would’ve been super slammed had she answered that she was in favor of gay marriage. So before you anti-equal rights people think you’ve got yourselves a spokeswoman/martyr…

  20. Lindsey says:

To Carena, no, it’s not. Wearing clothing of mixed fibers is strictly prohibited in Leviticus. So her bathing suit does not fly. Tsk, tsk!

  21. mandajamin says:

What she should have said is “religiously correct” so many people get them confused she probably comes from a closeminded church of people who have been taught their entire lives to fear what is different from them.
too bad for her she will never know how wonderful it is to really love and accept your neighbor.
to say you will pray for someone is not to love them its to look down on them.

  22. Carrie says:

I didn’t agree with her and I agree that she could have answered the question better. Those questions are less about the answers than about the poised and articulate way the contestant answers them. Having said that, Perez Hilton is a shitty celebrity blogger regularly ridiculed by his colleagues. What the hell was he doing judging this in the first place? This pageant has really gone downhill in the last several years and has become rather trashy.

  23. Pufft says:

I’d also like to add that Perez’ comment that Carrie Prejean gave the WORST ANSWER IN PAGEANT HISTORY is just politically incorrect.

Everyone knows that this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtkX3OyPF4Q was the worst answer in Pageant history

  24. daisy424 says:

He asked a question and she gave her opinion. I have a feeling that if she had answered his question like he wanted, (a general non-answer to please everyone) he would have called it a cop out. I don’t think that he would have been happy with any answer but his own.

He says that he wanted her to be politically savvy, but then states he thinks she should leave her politics out of it, which one is it Perez?

IMO, He asked that specific question for the publicity/buzz it generated. He was thinking of himself period.

  25. cherryblossom says:

    They both need to stfu.
Perez is behaving like he’s never heard someone disagree with his point of view before. And that thing about side stepping the answer? Why the fuck do you ask a question then?
As for little miss wanna be beauty queen…well, I appreciate honesty even if I loathe her answer. But uhm, I’m pretty sure the bible is against beauty contests too. It seems to go with that whole pride sin they’re always yammering about.
And, I have to ask this again: Why the fuck is Perez Hilton a judge at a beauty contest?

  26. gg says:

Perez is simply far too immature to be an official judge of anything. I think his turning the invitation to be a judge into his own personal platform, and then calling her a dumb bitch has backfired on him. She’s thanking God bigtime right now that Perez has given her this boost.

I would even go so far as to say that most lesbian and gay people I know would be embarrassed as hell that he thinks he’s representing them.

  27. MomInNH says:

Every gay person I know (And I know a LOT of gay people) will tell you that being gay is not a “choice” or a “lifestyle”. It’s who they are and who they have been since before they were born. THAT statement that she made about it being a choice is what irks me the most.

Whether or not she agrees with it, she should have shown some class and dignity towards ALL people. Not just the hetero ones. There’s a way to make your point without negating an entire group of people.

  28. TRT says:

She got more positive comments just for being honest and standing for what she believes in and taking her first runner up place with dignity than Perez! I applaud her…..

  29. Codzilla says:

daisy: Agreed. His after-the-fact statement that she should have left politics out of it is ridiculous.

I don’t agree with her stance on gay marriage, but, in this situation, Perez is the one who looks like the jackass. As others have rightly pointed out, the man draws cum stains on celebrity photos for a living. And it’s unfortunate that his lame, self-serving antics are tainting an otherwise worthy fight.

  30. Fen says:

She should say “Who am I to judge? I’m no God”

  31. Ally says:

Any other day I would so judgemental towards a person with these ideas, but miss california has my vote in this one.It is her right to have an opinion about this, she didn’t say that it’s the absolute correct answer (at least not when she answered the question), as far as I can remember she said “FOR ME a marriage sould be between a man and a woman”.
Perez is a famewhore, I kinda feel sorry for him because it’s obvious that he wants soooo much to be a celebrity…and when he meets in person the “stars” that he usually bashes on his site he kisses their asses.
Believe me the people that say they support gay marriages and in fact vote against and some of them are trully homophobic are the real problem, not some girl who thinks she’s biblicaly correct.
p.s. english…not my first language, sorry for the writing mistakes

  32. Wresa says:

“BIBLICALLY CORRECT”!!! There’s an oxymoron for ya’! LOL.

Good point, Carena! Would Jesus be a plastic Chippendale parading in a man thong if he were here? Would he condone sexist competitions that lower females to the level of pies in a rotating display at Baker’s Square?

  33. jessica says:

i wouldnt say it was only the comment. it was the fact that the answer to that comment showed a lot of people how close minded she is.

  34. jessica says:

    pretty…..but…….soooooo stuuuuupid

  35. huh says:

I think they should be judged on whether they answer the question in a logical and articulate way. Not so much on whether or not it is an answer the judge agrees or disagrees with.

She didn’t give a logical and articulate answer.

I do disagree with her but I wouldn’t fault her for that. I would fault her for the way she answered the question. It was a rambling answer.

That being said I have no idea how well any other contestant answered her question.

At any rate what would the pagent commitee expect with this guy as a judge? This is exactly what they should have expected.

  36. L says:

How can one person represent ALL americans? That is impossible / unreasonable expectation because all americans are so different. One person couldn’t possibly represent. And why should they? Should they pretend they have no personality, no values, no beliefs simply because they are “representing the usa?” That’s stupid. And nobody takes miss usa seriously anyway, they are beauty queens not scientists. Nobody cares.

Im totally, 100% pro-gay, but I think she has the right to her opinion… she WAS asked HER opinion. She answered… Perez didn’t like the answer so he cracked it. I think he is more at fault here, He needs to grow the f- up and realize that not everybody shares his views – and he needs to start being okay with it instead of just spreading negativity.

  37. Michelle says:

It absolutely PAINS me to say this, but I have to (mostly) agree with that oxygen thief Perez for once, exempting that he comes across as childish and every bit as ignorant as Miss California herself when he resorts to gross name-calling and dragging someone through the mud over a differing opinion.

While I completely disagree with her opinion, it IS her opinion, and she is entitled to that. She could have and should have chosen her wording more carefully so as not to sound like such an ignorant dolt, but come on. It’s a friggin beauty pageant, not a group of Rhodes scholars. The shallow end of the brain pool, if you will.

At the same time, I am glad she said what she said if only because it brings light to just how ignorant and ill-educated about the subject of gay marriage many people are.

  38. HashBrowns says:

Perez is a douche and everyone knows that BUT she really showed her complete ignorance of a very important subject in the world today.

Same sex marriage has been popping up everywhere and an intelligent person would read up on the different laws and such and read up on WHY gay people want to get married and THEN form an opinion. If you still disagree with it after that, then fine, it’s your opinion and you are entitled to it. But I’m also entitled to disagree with it and make my disagreement known.

I’m more pissed at her for being completely ignorant of the subject matter and making my state look bad. Not all of us are blond bimbos with fake breasts and 5 layers of make-up on. She does not represent me. It seems like she probably heard about same-sex marriage in her church or from her parents who demonized it just because they said the Bible tells us this and such as (*wink*).

She didn’t have to lie. Most of you are completely missing the point. Keeping her politics out MEANS being politically savvy. You keep your political opinions to yourself and say something fairly neutral like “I think marriage should be between a man and a woman, but this is a state’s rights issue and it should be dealt with on a state to state basis.” It’s vague, slightly avoids the question and articulate. She isn’t lying and she’s said her opinion and still kept politically correct.

If she can’t come up with a PC answer on the spot like that, then she isn’t right for Miss USA.

By the way, President Obama has repeatedly said that he thinks that marriage is between a man and a woman but does believe that this issue is about state and federal rights as opposed to religious marriage.

  39. Kim says:

I haven’t run into this yet, but my Mom tells me that only one spouse is allowed to collect social security payments. While some of these oversights are because the legal stuff surrounding marriage laws dates from the time when women did not work outside the house, there are also some current laws that are just as BS. For example, in Federal Crop Insurance (corn, wheat, ect), if the owner of the farm is married, they are required to state that their spouse owns half of it. Now, that’s not so bad, except that there are a lot of liability issues with farming. So, if someone slips and falls on a rock, they can sue not just the farmer, but also his spouse, bankrupting both.

I am torn about the gay marriage issue, but I am now hoping that it is legal JUST so some of the above BS gets worked out. I’d like to see the uproar when thousands of gay people realize they are no longer eligible for social security because they got married.

However, just from the smattering of laws above, I think it is an incredibly complicated legal issue, and that it should include more than “Okay, anyone can get married!”

  40. sam says:

Now shes just going to milk this event for all its worth. Sometimes you loose – you have to get over it.

The question was: Do you think other states should do the same – why or why not? She did not address the question.

Perez actually works his statements quite well in this interview, he clearly states what he was looking for from Miss America and explains how she does not meet that.

Saying “and no offense to anybody” doesn’t mean your statements are not offensive.

  41. skldfj says:

WOWWW…..he is just flat out stupid.

  42. WHAT? says:

Good for her for defending herself. She is entitled to her opinion (even if it is controversial), and when asked her opinion she should be able to give it.

What is more disgusting is Perez using the pageant for his own platform. The man is out of control. He is a good example of a “progressive” who is so close minded he cannot value differences of opinion. He asked that question to gain publicity for himself and for Prop 8. He expected an answer to his liking, but when he found it wasn’t, he went nuts. He really needs to take a step back.

  43. Mils says:

Actually, Miss California IS BIBICALLY correct.

While the Bible preaches about ‘loving your neighbour’ (which, in the gay context means, we are to be loving and kind to homosexuals, while at the same time not condoning their sinful lifestyle), the Bible refers to homosexuality as a sin in many versus.

Leviticus 18:22; – “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 – “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God”

Romans 1:26-27 – “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion”

Also, in Genesis 19:1-13, when all the men from every part of the city of Sodom, both young and old, surrounded Lot’s house and demanded to have sex with the men he was sheltering in his house, Lot answered, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing”

In the Bible, marriage is ordained by God to be between a man and a woman.

Genesis 2:21-24 – “So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribsh and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the ribi he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Matthew 19:4-6 – “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one”

Homosexual offenders are placed in the same category as adulterers, prostitutes and thieves. They are all wrong. I couldn’t imagine the apostle approving of homosexual marriages.

If you’re going to bash Miss California, bash her for not being politically correct as she is most definitely BIBLICALLY CORRECT

  44. Gloaming says:

How can she, as Perez expected her to – “leave her own political opinions out”?

When he asked her what her political opinion was?

I dislike her for her stance on this, but i dislike Perez even more for …..well…………………………being Perez.

Anyway, what the hell does it matter what a Miss America Pageant contestant thinks!!

  45. neelyo says:

Thanks for the information Mills. Luckily I don’t want to get married in a church so there shouldn’t be a problem.

This tempest in a teapot is an embarrassment to all sides. The two of them are barely qualified to argue about fashion let alone this complicated subject.

I feel badly for the real winner. This should be her fifteen seconds. And everyone keeps referring to Miss California as a beauty queen. They should be calling her a runner-up.

  46. Annie says:

Hey, guess what though Mils? Throw your bible quotes aside for a second and realize that not everyone gets married in a church.

In fact, those who have church ceremonies have to go to their states and sign legal marriage licenses. Separate from that of their church.

Being able to marry in the church and legal marriage (which, btw, can occur between two people in front of a judge WITHOUT an ordained minister) are two different things.

I doubt they want the right to marry in a church, but they want the right to declare themselves spouses.

Oh and uh, btw, there are tons of people who are MARRIED but not through any faith that holds the bible as the infallible object you seem to.

Amen HashBrowns! I am quite glad to note be blonde-haired blue-eyed and stupid. And I agree, again. It’s not that she’s against Gay-Marriage, it’s the way she chose to state her point. Very poorly done.

  47. j. ferber says:

I just hope Perez realizes he’s unleashed another Sarah Palin on the world. There is such a leadership vacuum in the Republican party, we’re probably looking at the next vice-presidential candidate in the next 15 to 20 years.

  48. j. ferber says:

    Or worse, presidential candidate.

  49. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

    a) there’s nothing, and I mean NOTHING brave about being a bigot.

    b) if she were so concerned about being biblically correct, she’d never be in a beauty pageant in the first place. She’d never wear mixed types of fabrics. During her period, she’d stay in a hut cloistered with other women. She’d never stand on a stage in front of men and women unless it was to be stoned to death. She’d never eat shellfish. And on and on and on.

I love how bigots hide behind the Bible. I’m sure Jesus loves it when people cloak their hatred in his father’s book, too. Gah.

As for Perez Hilton, he’s a twatwaffle.

But her answer was horribly convoluted. Now of course she’s going to milk this for all the publicity it’s worth, getting all sorts of sympathy and faux-hero status from people who actually think it’s “brave” to say she doesn’t believe one group of people should have the same rights as the rest. And then she’ll go away, forgotten.

And hopefully Perez Hilton will, too.

Someday, gay people will have the same rights in this country as straight people. Until then, the bigotry continues.

    Best. Comment. EVER.

  51. Sunny says:

Well, she’s now more famous than Perez will ever be. Expect speaking, and book tours from America’s newest Hostess Cupcake.

Right or wrong, Perez didn’t do the Gay Rights movement any favors here, in fact, he probably set it back a few years. Mainstream Americans were beginning to see gays as sympathetic figures; bullying and berating people (especially white, blond ‘Christian’ people, I think part of the backlash is that this girl is THE status quo)who disagree with you is not the way to civil rights.

  52. Annie says:

Right or wrong, Perez didn’t do the Gay Rights movement any favors here, in fact, he probably set it back a few years

Dammit. I’m inclined to agree. He really shouldn’t be viewed as a representative of that community. He definitely handled it poorly as well.

But she was no better. There’s no logic or clarity, just a bunch of rhetoric about bible this. bible that.

  53. j. ferber says:

Anastasia, you said that beautifully. Bravo.

  54. Michael says:

I support her and her answer. She wasn’t attempting to gain browny points by saying what the GAY guy wanted to hear. She stuck to her beliefs and answered his question. And then he has the nerve to get all pissy because he didn’t get the answer he wanted. He’s a Whiner who should NEVER EVER be allowed to judge anything again. He simply ran into someone he couldn’t force his opinion down her throat and poor baby had a Hissy. GO MISS CALIFORNIA. You can represent my America anyday everyday.

  55. Danielle says:

I admire this chick for standing up for what she believes in, because whether or not you all believe what she does, she still believes it no matter what. That’s faith.

  56. The Bible should be overhauled. It’s just a book like all other EDITED books. There is nothing that is technically ‘biblically’ correct, gay relationships included.
I think it’s amusing that pageant contestants are viewed seriously, but of course it’s about advertising. Since when has Miss America changed the world on her own? But give these bimbos prime air time to represent the backwardness of a portion of people who take the bible literally, and it’s a different ballgame. America needs to move forward not backward. Any more backward (with these stupid beauty pageants)? Anyway, how can any nation proclaim female equality if it still treats women like objects?

Anyway, she handled herself the way she is trained to handle herself, in other words, it’s all a glam act, there is no honesty. Then again, many Americans prefer the fake submissive woman/Stepford Wife thing. If they’re given brute honesty, on TV or wherever, they go into meltdown mode.

  57. jm says:

Since when have beauty pageant contestants given meaningful, articulate answers? Never! They always sound idiotic. Miss California just had the misfortune to be on the receiving end of that moron’s attention-grabbing nonsense.

She stated her opinion (bumbling, yes), but hardly seems out to lynch gays who want to get married. I’d guess it’s just not on her radar.

HERS WAS NOT THE WORST ANSWER!! Go look up Miss Arizona on youtube – she was much worse. And there have been many, many bad answers throughout history. It’s a BEAUTY pageant, not a science fair!!

The interview segments are a joke. But the biggest joke is Perez Hilton, for trying to make this more than what it is. He’s an embarrassment to straight AND gay people.

He delibertately asked her a loaded question. It was an unfair question and he should not have been allowed to ask it. IMO she got set up big time.
She should have known to leave the bibical beliefs back home but bible thumpers always manage to thump themselves.

  59. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Sunny, I have to totally agree.

  60. okay... says:

OKay, when she said that she’d be praying for him, she meant because of the way he’s been bashing her and disrespecting her; his behavior since the event- not because he’s gay.

he asked her a question and he got an honest answer, if he doesn’t feel the need to be ‘politically correct’ than how can he judge and bash someone for having her beliefs?

she’s entitled to having her opinions just like everyone else, and she answered in a very respectful way, so to criticize her for not favoring gay marriage is so unfair; why is it wrong to disagree with something? seriously? i don’t agree with gay marriage but that doesn’t mean i hate gay people or that i bash them– not at all. stop hating the girl for answering honestly.

  61. HashBrowns says:

@okay….: How many people here who have disagreed with her have said that they hate her for answering honestly? Not that many, as a matter of fact, I’ve just skimmed the comments and found 2 of 58 that stand out in that way.

Everyone else is clear that they don’t care that she expressed her opinion, she just did it with zero tact.

  62. okay... says:

I’m not saying everyone HERE is hating her, people don’t agree with her, yeah, but all the media has done is rag on her for her answer.

also, i really don’t see how she did it without “tact”. there was no attack on homosexual people, and she didn’t disrespect them; she just said what her personal opinion was. she was nervous but i thought she tried to answer her honest opinion nicely and without throwing insults at anyone.

  63. InFL says:

ha! she’s getting more attention than the one who won…she will make tons of $$$ and be more “famous” than miss usa

actually i think like 60% of americans believe marriage should be between a man and a woman…she is one of them…

i couldn’t care either way…i believe marriage is an oppressive state…so whatever…but, i’ll give her this much, it seems she was honest about her beliefs regarding the subject…

  64. Mils says:

Annie and anastasiabeaverhausen, I’m not a bigot hiding behind a bible. I was merely correcting the many statements misinforming posters that the Bible and God is okay with homosexuals, when in fact it is the opposite. I also felt the need to correct the many statements that claim that Miss California was Biblically incorrect because God loves all his children.

God is a forgiving father. He talks about forgiveness as long as we repent our sins. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

No where in my above statement did I say everyone gets married in the church or that all married couples marry in a faith. You clearly didn’t read my comment with an open mind (that just so happens to be different from your many comments), as I was making references to what Miss California said about being ‘biblically correct’ instead of being ‘politically correct’. She is, she was.

I don’t have pre-existing anti-gay prejudice in my heart. I’m not opposed by civil unions per say, as I think on a state level, Gay couples should fundamentally enjoy the same rights as straight couples, but I think those laws should not be imposed on the churches because God has clearly made his stance on homosexuals, as other sins, known.

I’m also not pro-beauty pageants. Of the six things God says he hates, “a proud look” (Proverbs 6:17) is one of them. Isaiah seemed to describe a beauty pageant when he says, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go…therefore, the Lord will strike with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion” (Isaiah 3:16-18).

I’m a sinner too. I try to live my life as Godly as possible, but even I fall back many times. Of course, just because I don’t agree with Miss California and many others parading their half naked bodies infront of lustrous men, I should be silence (because I’m also a sinner) while many misinterpret the Bible.

  65. Alex from Romania says:

damn, if she were in my country she would’ve won easily. this perez B***H could just go to hell. gay marriage should not be allowed anywhere. but, unfortunatelly we have come to the point where we are losing all our moral values. i don’t care if i’ll be judged or not, but i am a christian orthodosx from romania and here we don’t allow dirty things like you americans do. too bad for you, because of this way of thinking you will lose everything. do not overestimate yourselves, do not consider you to be the gratest country in the world, because you’re not. this is the best example of your downfall, a girl stated what she belived in, saying the most natural and normal thing in the world, she was accused and put to the ground. shame on you for bringing such horrible examples in the world. for me she is the winner and she will always be.

  66. I'd ratherbewaterboarding says:

Perez Hilton is a little diseased monkey bitch!

  67. HashBrowns says:

@mils: Churches cannot be forced to marry gay couples because they are protected by the law. I can’t get married in an Orthodox Catholic Church because I’m not Catholic.

Prop 8 didn’t change the law or anything else, Prop 8 changed the California Constitution to include the words “marriage is between one man and one woman”. We didn’t have that definition before Prop 8. That is literally all Prop 8 did.

But then you had people spreading lies about how churches were going to have to marry gay couples (not true) and how the gays getting married was going to somehow make hetero unions less…I dunno, sacred?

It was a load of nonsense and it upset me that people not only told the lies and spread them, but others were so willing to believe them and go with it.

  68. McKenna says:

I don’t agree with her opinion, but I would say that while no one person can represent the opinions of ALL Americans, her views are probably more aligned with views of American’s (at least Californian’s) than Perez’s are. Fact is that a majority of voters voted “yes” on prop 8. Most American’s believe they have a right to butt into other people’s lives and have a say in who should and shouldn’t be allowed to marry. She’s not in the minority…unfortunately.

  69. ratherbewaterboarding says:

    Miss California should bitch-slap Perez!

  70. Blondie says:

I just want to go on record as saying that “twatwaffle” is my new favorite term. Hilarious.

  71. StrawberryFairy says:

I think Perez Hilton is a jerk. Dont ask a question if youre not prepared for the answer. To call this woman a b*#$h and a c*^* is just uncalled for. Perez needs to grow up. Not everyone agrees with your lifestyle and if you were a mature adult, you would have been able to accept Miss California’s answer and move on. This is her OPINION and she’s entitled to it! Perez is a very mean-spirited person and it angers me that he can disrespect this young woman and he’s not receiving any backlash on his blog site. Stop going to this guy’s site people. He wants respect yet he can’t give that same respect to others.

  72. whateva... says:

Please she should have known he would ask her that question…plus I think they should ban him from judging next year, he took her answer way too personal…(not that he was ever qualified for the job). He’s a dumbass, I hate when people discuss him as if though he is credible.
Besides I’ve never been impressed with any of the answers from beauty pagents.

  73. Gracie says:

@ anastasiabeaverhausen There’s nothing brave about being a bigot? Try there’s nothing brave about calling people names for having a difference of opinion!

How are you any different than Perez? You’re not.

Labeling opinions that are counter to your own as hateful or bigoted is a vile practice. Demonization stifles the free exchange of ideas.

  74. gg says:

I really don’t think anybody bashing the Bible, God, America, and making blanket generalizations about religious beliefs, Christians and literality are going to help the argument for the gay side at ALL. Has the opposite effect.

Not very many Christians I know actually take the entire Bible literally anyway; the vast majority believe Levitican law was in place at the time simply to curb the free spread of disease amongst the Jews of the era.

There was no such thing as the Christian faith in the Old Testament. Please don’t play dumb, it’s a strawman and shows ignorance of the subject being ranted about.

I just think we should be able to think and evolve without all the hate.

And for the last time — since when does anybody give a rat’s posterior what goes on in some silly beauty pageant?

  75. stanley says:

Now that Perez admitted Ms. California may have lost bc of her answer, the producers of the pageant should do the right thing & give justice to a clear victim of bigotry.Apparently Perez gaver her a low score she never recovered. The fact she made it to Number 2 clearly shows the other judges gave her high scores for her honesty. I say, remove the scores given by the BIGOT Perez & let’s see who won

I am gay myself & I don’t think bigots like Perez will advance the gay cause. It’s bigotry that is the bigger problem bc that is the cause of gay hate crimes (gay marriage isn’t my cause anyway, I have a straight boy fetish & if I can’t imagine myself having sex w/ a gay guy, how can I marry them? Yes, the majority of gays are like me, have you ever wondered why straight boys dominate gay porn?)

  76. Annie says:

But then you had people spreading lies about how churches were going to have to marry gay couples (not true) and how the gays getting married was going to somehow make hetero unions less…I dunno, sacred?

Agreed. 100%. There’s a huge misconception being spread that this is going to force churches to marry gay couples. And it’s not even close to true.

I just wanted to reiterate because it’s something that so many people fail to comprehend.

  77. sissoucat says:

mils: In the Bible, there’s the story of the love between David and Jonathan. Same-sex love. Not friendship, love. The word used – before translation – is the same as in heterosexual love.

And it seems God didn’t punish them for it, and the writers clearly didn’t consider it as a sin, so who are we to say that God is opposed to homosexuals ?

  78. Nomad says:

Asking a question about same sex marriage at a Miss America pageant is out of place and bad form, just like Perez Hilton

  79. Evangaline says:

Go Miss California. Perez Hilton is just an overweight weasel (with apologies to weasels everywhere).

  80. Thuyen says:

It is not just Hilton that was the problem judge. Granted, he was the most blatant. But other judges did state they give Carrie low scores over her answer. Shanna Moakler stated she should have given an answer that reflected all Americans and thus by not doing so lack compassion, so that is why she lost (on top of now saying she be quiet, while the attacks on her continue, but instead go with her own pro-gay marriage agenda by aligning with a gay rights group). Alica Jacobs said that if she could, she would have place her 51st for her answer that she said is lacking in social grace (and is also quoted in a newspaper taking shots at Miss Cali’s breasts).

All three judges try to make it out like Carrie is some extremist radical, who does not know her audience.

But given the backlash against all three judges, especially Hilton, it looks like they did not know their audience when they are taking shots at Carrie (and not so much because more Americans oppose gay marriage, which is true, but because Americans, regardless of the issues or what side, hate bullies, and all three judges come off as bullies trying to use their power to force their views on the contestant). See especially Alicia Jacobs’ blog. The vast majority of posters on her own blog are against what she said, so she attempt to play victim by deleting one entry, then claim conveniently there were death threats on that entry (with it deleted, no one can confirm or deny it seems, except for any folks who might have saved copies of it).

I see nothing hateful in what Carrie said. I see her attempt to state her view of marriage, that many are raised to believe and that many Americans hold to. It must understood, that for religious folks, beliefs and morals are very personal and dear to them. An attack on her value system is an attack on all of us, not just her. To us, the three judges are the ones lacking in social grace, not her.

Carrie did not attack any single person. Not even when she found out the attacks were made on her in the most crude manner by Perez, did she return the favor, but said she will pray for him (just like Christ said one should when one is ridiculed for one’s beliefs).

Contrast that with the cheapshots at her by folks like Hilton and Jacobs, as well as their defenders.

  81. s says:

Yuck..Miss California. Geez…..ditz. No wonder I don’t watch pageants. Puke. All of them…but she was the worst.

  82. s says:

    Totally agree Carena and Wresa.

  83. Thuyen says:

“Go her for having an opinion but show some tact. And please stop telling him you’re gonna go pray for him like he’s some kind of diseased monkey that needs healing.”

She did not pray for him over him being gay.

She said she would pray for him after she was told the vile offensive names he called her, and she decided to take the high road.

  84. Thuyen says:

“I love how bigots hide behind the Bible. I’m sure Jesus loves it when people cloak their hatred in his father’s book, too. Gah.”

One slight problem: Jesus said the same thing Carrie did: that marriage by God’s design is between man and woman. Nice try though.

  85. Thuyen says:

mils: In the Bible, there’s the story of the love between David and Jonathan. “Same-sex love. Not friendship, love. The word used – before translation – is the same as in heterosexual love. And it seems God didn’t punish them for it, and the writers clearly didn’t consider it as a sin, so who are we to say that God is opposed to homosexuals ?”

No serious biblical scholar agree with you that their relationship is reference to gay love.

  86. Thuyen says:

gg: There was no such thing as the Christian faith in the Old Testament. Please don’t play dumb, it’s a strawman and shows ignorance of the subject being ranted about.

Me: Ever heard of the classical Christian statement, the Old Testament is hidden in the New Testament, and the New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament? Me think you might like to rethink your claims of others are ignorant.

  87. Thuyen says:

“Unfortunately her answer wasn’t exactly biblically correct, in the sense that the Bible also says a lot about tolerance and acceptance of everyone.”

In actuality, she is biblically correct. The Bible repeatedly in both the Old and New Testaments state that marriage is between man and woman. It did so in Genesis 2. It did so in the gospels when Christ spoke of marriage as between man and woman, and what God had made, let man not break. Paul did so in Ephesians 5:25-27 also drawing analogy of husband/wife relationship to Christ and the church.

So that’s three places where the Bible directly states marriage is between man and woman according to God’s design.

You don’t have accept that as your moral view. But don’t deny that the Bible does not say so, when it did in the most blatant of terms.

And nowhere does the Bible say we should accept anybody as part of our church no matter what they do. Christ Himself spoke of if a person is unrepentant after folks try to reach him in attempts to reconcile, he is to be treated as any other pagan. Paul himself said expelled the immoral believer.

Not to mention the place where hell is spoken of the most and spoken as reserved for sinners is in the gospels. And the one who used it the most is Christ.

God is a loving God. But He also hates sin. He made that clear in both the Old and the New Testaments.

The very fact is all of us are sinners, except for our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who died for our sins, to atone for them.

Following Him is no license to sin. He did tell the adulterous woman He had forgiven, “go and sin no more.”

The moral aspect of the law given in the Old Testament is repeated in the New Testament for the believer, such as not to murder, not steal, not commit adultery, honor parents, not be a man who go after man or woman who go after woman, etc. All that is repeated in the New Testament.

That does not mean we can live our lives sinlessly. We cannot. We are believers- meaning sinners forgiven by God who now aim to please God daily, even though we fall way short on daily basis.

  88. larry says:

I’D PUT HER IN THE WHITEHOUSE SHE SPEAKS FOR MOST PEOPLE !

  89. kay says:

you go girl (miss ca, not perez)we need more people to stand for truth (the Bible is only interpreted correctly by the Holy Spirit to those wanting the truth – for those who think God overlooks and tolerates sin in his everlasting kingdom). Perez can be healied if he desires because I have friends who have been delivered from the lifestyle and are happier being healed and know they were delivered from a life of bondage and will have everlasting peace.

  90. What an epic submit – precise fact essential! A implausible deal appreciated!
