The Walking Dead finale: who met Lucille and who was safe? (spoilers)

Spoilers from last night’s finale of The Walking Dead
Last night’s hour and a half finale of The Walking Dead seemed to epitomize all that was wrong with this season. There was a lot of filler and some genuinely tense moments, but it ended on a cliffhanger that left fans frustrated. At the end we got to see Negan, the big bad from the Saviors, played by the incredible Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He was definitely scary but more of a sympathetic character than I was expecting. Negan’s long speech to the crouching Alexandrites made sense to me. I especially liked how he explained that this was retribution for killing his men. “When I sent my people to kill your people for killing my people, you killed more of my people. Not cool.” He also said that he didn’t want to kill them, he just wanted them to work for him, which again sounded reasonable in context. As Morgan explained on Talking Dead afterwards, Rick’s people had killed over 20 Saviors, so Negan selecting just one person to kill was in no way extreme. The ending looked extreme to viewers though, especially when we were given just a few clues as to whom Negan actually killed. I can’t believe producers used that cheap tactic, yet again, after leaving Glenn’s fate up in the air for several episodes earlier this season.

During the final scene at first I thought that Negan had selected Carl to kill, but he was actually instructing his men to cut out Carl’s eye and feed it to Rick if anyone tried to stop him. That means that Carl and Rick are safe.

Highlight the text below to see speculative spoilers from the comics:
In the comics, Glenn meets his end here, but we know that WD producers don’t follow the comics and Glenn was at the end of the line. It looked like Negan selected someone more in the middle. It may have been Abraham, who died earlier in the comics from a crossbow to the head by the Saviors. Denise died on the show in the same way that Abraham died in the comics, so producers may have subbed Abraham’s death for Glenn’s here.

The rest of last night’s episode was just ok. I’m beginning to feel sorry for Morgan (the character, played by Lennie James), because his entire story arc with Carol just felt like filler. Morgan’s otherwise interesting backstory took up an entire episode earlier this season when we were waiting to hear what happened to Glenn. (Incidentally, that episode was also written by Scott M. Gimple, who was responsible for this one. Eff that guy.) Carol looked to be mortally injured when we last saw her, but Morgan and Carol coincidentally then ran into a couple of good looking nice guys in padded costumes. That seemed mildly ridiculous to me, like of course they’re going to fix up Carol and they’re going to be allies. Also ridiculous: father Gabriel being put in charge of Alexandria like he’s some trustworthy badass now when he’s always been a sniveling backstabber.

As for the fate of Maggie’s pregnancy, I only hope that she doesn’t die. I’m not too concerned either way. Another baby would only be a liability in this universe.

During Talking Dead, producer and this episode’s writer Scott Gimple very meekly explained the non-end. “The end of the story is what people saw and when we reveal who was on the receiving end, that’s going to be the start of another story… the effects from that.” He explained that he wanted viewers to feel suspense and terror like the core characters and that “We’re going to deliver you a story next season that justifies it.” Comic creator Robert Kirkman also said that he loved cliffhangers and defended it by saying “The cliffhanger isn’t the story.” He explained that the story was more about Rick’s transformation from being in charge to being beat down. It’s not like this blockbuster show is going to lose viewership if they wrap up lose ends. They don’t need to bait us to get us to watch next season.

    This ignorant a** season finale….

    • jane says:

been a loyal viewer since day one. Thought the Glenn dumpster dive was pathetic and now the writers think this will ramp up interest and make people excited for a 6 month wait. Don’t actually care anymore, the writers should be fired, so much filler. . Then the stupid writer sat there and tried to explain to us STOOPID people what the season ender was all about. good by to what used to be my fav. wish CB had a spot for likes or dislikes. just a thought, wish the writer could have been kneeling there and negan chose him

      • Mindy says:

I’ve been a loyal watcher since the beginning and I started giving the show the side eye at the end of season 5. I stuck with it this year HOPING they’d fix the slide into stupidity. They didn’t. It just got worse – and it’s all down to BAD writing. What was a show about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances has tuned into a really badly written comic book (and the comic isn’t written badly). I’m done.

      • Ang to the reals says:

Yes!! Plus more yesses, TWD has definitely jump-ed the gun. I’m bailing, g’nite & g’bye. ….

    • C says:

      Worst finale ever!

  2. Jenns says:

Where they going for a Jon Snow kind of cliffhanger here? Because it didn’t work. You had a great buildup with Negan and then…nothing.

Honestly, I’ve been over this show for a while. I know the comics are still a thing, but I feel the TV show needs an end point. Too many show runners and bad writing has ruined it.

    • Meli says:

I agree. It was a completely unnecessary ending because Negan was already terrifying. The idea that one of those in the line would be murdered by barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat was terrifying. Watching them die and then ending the show, knowing who was killed, would have been horrible and made an impact. It didn’t serve the storyline at all to end on this stupid cliffhanger! If they think people won’t figure out who actually died before the new season airs, then they must not know a thing about the internet. There were pictures of Glen filming after his supposed “death”.

Stupid, stupid choice by the writers, in what was otherwise a better season than the one before.

      • Lucky says:

I love this show and am a huge Walking Dead apologist but even this was too much for me. I’m super pissed off that these assholes left us with a ridiculous cliff hanger. F*#k Robert Kirkman & Scott Gimple

  3. Kimmy says:

This show has become such a hate watch for me. This episode was basically ALL FILLER. I bet it was that new Alexandria guy, who we haven’t seen in like 5 episodes. The one Darryl found. They don’t have the balls to kill off any of the main characters. I’ll be so shocked if they actually do!!

  4. launicaangelina says:

I agree that it was frustrating! They don’t need to bait us with a cliffhanger. Just let us know who dies because the end would have been more impactful.

*Possible Spoiler* for those who don’t mind digging around the net. Some smarty pants on Tumblr keyed in on the vocals during the beating and it may give an indication of who died.

  5. Esther says:

    What a terrible mess.

we will know months before the new seasons start who will die. how do they plan to keep that a secret? with casting news and seeing who is on the set we will know who dies.

    what a huge waste.

The Walking Dead was never a well written or well acted show but Season 6 was an absolute mess and i dont know if i will keep watching, its too disappointing how bad the writing is.

  6. mayamae says:

On Talking Dead, JDM stated that Negan scene was taped over something like fourteen hours. And unlike how it’s usually done in TV, the cast was actually present and emoting throughout his monologue. He said they usually have stand ins or even objects, but the cast chose to be present and crying/shaking, etc.

I loved JDM. He is so obviously loving this role. I was silently crying, yet somehow giggling at a few of his comments. It was confusing.

  7. Juls says:

The biggest thing missing from this show is……
    Frank Darabont

  8. Lindy79 says:

Cliffhangers only work for shows that can maintain them as has been shown by the whole Jon Snow malarky with GoT, or at a push if they are only a cliffhanger for a short period of time.

TWD has scores of sites that track filming/get access to calling sheets, so the minute they start filming, anyone who wants to know, will know…it was a stupid decision in all honesty.

Also, how is this going to work for the likes of Comic Con? By then the filming will have well started and the actors will know so either they will fake out and have the dead character there, a few of the main will be missing so as not to give it away and then claim they are filming elsewhere. That’ll make for an interesting panel…

    • ab says:

ugh, this is exactly my issue with it. cliffhangers like this don’t really work any more. they start filming the next season in a month or two, and set photos will be online almost instantly. so the suspense will be ruined. they should have just tied it up with a shot of who was killed. the aftermath is the real cliffhanger. knowing who gets lucille’d is not going to make people stop watching next season.

  9. Tiffany27 says:

Also, internet high five to anyone who can ID the dude in the pic with Morgan. He’s kinda cute.

  10. Dorothy#1 says:

    I loved it!!

  11. Nancy says:

Disappointing finale, but typical. It’s all speculation now, a guessing game. Abraham stepped up to the plate which was cool, and made me dislike him less. Carl got a lot of attention which I hate, yeah it’s t.v, but he’s a child. They wanted us to believe Daryl or Carol died last week, and Carol just about did last night. The comics have Glenn dying by Neigan smashing his head in, but the show varies vastly from the comics, but that’s who my guess is. According to the comics further, Michonne meets her demise by a beheading, so again, if they follow the comics, she’s safe. They could do a Rosetta or someone that wouldn’t be that missed, but that’s a cop out. I hate cliffhangers….who shot J.R. again?

    • Grant says:

      SPOILERS for the comics…

I think Michonne is still alive in the comics. Rosita is the one who gets beheaded.

      • Nancy says:

I was told by a comic book enthusiast that her demise was decapitation. Also that Glenn was killed by Lucille, ah oh.

      • kori says:

No it’s rosita much farther along in the story. Michonne is still alive in the comics. But they are always doing swaps. Rick lost his hand/given to Merle, tyrese decapitared by the governor/Herschel, Abraham getting shot with an arrow by Dwight/Denise, dale getting his leg muched by cannibals/Bob and so on. Andrea is alive and Rick’s love interest and Darryl doesn’t exist. It’s hard to tell what they’ll keep and/or who will play it out.

    • isabelle says:

On the Talking Dead last night the actors don’t yet until filming is resumed (in May). That sort of makes me angry as a viewer the writers stringing this out for ratings and then killing off the person, the audience “believes” is killed. They will kill off the person based on fan comments, guarantee it. Beginning to dislike this show more and more.

    • yolo112 says:

Ya know.. I hope it’s Maggie. Sounds terrible, right? I remember reading some of the actors reactions about the finale and they all seemed to be REALLY angry/upset/emotional/physically ill about who meets Lucille. What character could elicit such emotions from them?? If it’s Glenn, Abraham, Rosita or Eugene, I honestly won’t care. I really hope this next season has a better story line. Things are getting real predictable.

      • Nancy says:

Nope. She’s a whiner on set and off. Almost didn’t come back to show because she had a hard time with a story line. And she cannot do a Southern accent to save her life (no pun intended). lol Drop it and her. It will probably be Glenn. Women’s groups are up in arms again that Denise died. Lord, women do die. I did feel bad for Denise though, that damn arrow through her eye. 🙁

  12. DarkSparkle says:

My take on things: We several times saw the first person view of someone looking out of the back of the van – we find out when the van doors open that Daryl was the person seated closest to the door, who would’ve logically had that point of view. I think Daryl was Lucille’s date – he also would’ve ‘taken it like a champ.’

    • Lindy79 says:

I don’t think the writers have that put much thought into consistency on who was sitting where etc. They never have before when it comes to stuff like that. They’ll pick who they want and the issues with it not matching will be ignored by them.

Also the line taking it like a champ is from the comic, and is said about Glenn. I also think Abraham would take it like a champ too if they decide to change it up.

      • DarkSparkle says:

Totally agree about Abraham – and Michonne also would take it like a champ – and Rick’s love interests don’t have a great history on this show…

    • mayamae says:

I don’t know if it’s Daryl, but rumor has it NR listed his Georgia house. He’s also been pretty maginalized since they’ve reached Alexandria.

    • mom2two says:

I don’t think it’s Daryl. He and Maggie looked pretty bad off and I don’t think either one of them would have taken the first blow like a champ.
Glenn would be my first guess, given the fact that he was the only one of Rick’s crew who showed any kind of resistance or Abraham who straightened his back, almost like a challenge to Negan.
I think the POV from inside the RV was meant to be mutual POV of Glenn, Michonne and Daryl.

It was a terrible finale honestly. Even though Jeffrey Dean Morgan was very good as Negan and Andrew Lincoln, as always , did a good job as Rick going from confident to actually showing some fear-knowing he underestimated this guy.

  13. Linn says:

So when Andrew Lincoln talked about how reading the script for this episode made him sick, it really was because he new it would be embarrassingly bad and not because he thought it was too brutal, right?

Could that episode have been much more of a snoozefest?

Making the viewers “feel suspense and terror like the core characters” would have happened much more if you had actually killed one of the beloved characters this episode.
By giving us a stupid cliffhanger and later killing who is probably a pretty minor character you are doing the exact opposite.

Think about Game of Thrones, people are still talking about the suspense and terror that came with the beheading of Ned and the Red Wedding, while Jon Snow’s cliffhanger death has become much more of a stupid meme.

    • Nancy says:

On the after hours show, they said filming that scene was brutal. It was night and took something like 12 hours with all of the cast kneeling in front of the Neigan character. They were all beat and emotional. If viewers get so invested, it has too be grueling on the set. The episode seemed like all commercials and could have just been the last five minutes of the show, but I’ll be there next fall to see who got obliterated.

      • The Original G says:

I never understand why actor who make millions think that regular people care that they put in a 12 hour day? It makes them sound whiny and I’m supposed to enjoy the magic, not get caught up in their personal drama.

      • mayamae says:

Actually no one was complaining. JDM was praising them for helping him emotionally get into the scene, when much of what they did was offscreen, and typically subbed with a stand in. It was respect for him as an actor (and welcome to the family), and it seemed to mean a lot to him.

      • Nancy says:

I agree mayame: He had nothing but praise for them. These actors get into their characters and weren’t about to have Neigan to that scene with stand-ins. Maybe the finale was lame, but to me there is no question the actors were great. I actually respected Eugene and liked Abraham who I never did before. I’m one of the few who doesn’t like Maggie and Glenn that much, but Glenn’s emotions were raw to the bone. You can see the emotions change in Rick’s face, from calm to killer to manic. However, Daryl is always the best because he is the show for me. Yes I’m a stan, can’t help myself!

      • The Original G says:

But they did act like it was heroic. Sorry, Stanton gave a great performance of a monologue that went on way too long and plagued by poor pacing after an aimless and poorly paced episode

    • isabelle says:

He was sick because the actors don’t know yet who has died. He may not have a job come May. They said this on the Talking Dead last night, they don’t even know yet.

  14. Lindy79 says:

What makes this all the worse is that they already did this nonsense with Glenn, leaving us wondering (but not really) is he dead then magically escaping about 60 walkers by hiding under a dumpster. Walkers in the past on this show have grabbed at people under cars etc…Sophia anyone? so how did they think it made sense for him to have someone eaten while lying on top of him and not one walker would get a bit of Glenn while he crawled under, it was beyond ridiculous, and despite all the backlash they got, they acted like it was the most brilliant piece of writing ever to have graced television.

  16. Valois says:

This is the TV version of clickbaiting.

  17. M.A.F. says:

I haven’t watched since the show came back from winter break. I was aware of the info given under the highlight and with all this build up of Negan, I had a feeling NOTHING was going to happen because NOTHING ever does.

I hope they take this break to figure out their end game. I feel this show has been on for too long.

  18. Haolebunny says:

Lame. Fire Gimpel. So much build up to a non ending. ::yawns:: Walking Dead did NOT deliver a worthy finale. Just a bunch of driving and monologues.

  19. Heather says:

I actually thought the episode was very very good. I was terrified during the episode, and you could see Rick and company getting more and more afraid. Rick in particular (a character I don’t like) acted really well- he started out so cocky and by the end he had been absolutely humiliated. However, the problem was that they didn’t show who was killed. It basically undid the rest of the episode turning a very good episode to a frustrating and weak one. That’s my take. Also I’m fairly certain it was Glen that died. If they would have shown us, we could have mourned. Now we’re all just pissed.

    • mayamae says:

I don’t necessarily think Rick was humiliated. I would say he was humbled, demoralized, and even shamed. But most of all, he knows his hubris is what brought this on. I don’t think it has to do with his pride.

      • HeatherAnn says:

Yes, that’s probably true. His face showed this increasing panic during the course of the episode. Good acting.

    • Nancy says:

@Heather,…..Rick was losing it because Negan was in the face of his son. He is so sadistic that he could have easily killed him and that probably would have finally put Rick over the edge. He’s lost almost everyone he loved.

  20. Madpoe says:

Horrible ending for this season finale! 90 mins of WHAT? 90 min road trip for some funyuns or something.

Common sense left everyone or something? How many times you’re gonna keep being lured into a trap before it dawns on them…ITS A TRAP!? They could’ve mowed down the first 10 ppl blocking them. Or return home and send ppl on foot to get a doctor from hilltop, why sacrifice by having everyone piled up in the RV?

Rick looked like he was having a nervous breakdown, again.
Glenn literally gave away how much Maggie meant to him.
I mean I’ve never read the comic book so I don’t know what’s expected by Negan (hunky papa Winchester) but he talks too much. like its a scooby doo episode or something? Why you given the plot away just do it! And all of those (male) Saviors, ain’t nobody knew about them after the wolves? how are the wolves not forced to be recruited by Negan? Like Alexandria just popped up on Negan’s radar when Rick – aka the worst tooth fairy – creepin’ into ppls bedrooms and stabbin’ em in the head. Cmon!

My guess Lucille said what’s up to:
    1. Glenn
    2. Maggie
    3. Michonne
    4. Rick
    5. Daryll

I’m no longer watching if they bite it.

    • Nancy says:

I think they use the comic book characters, all but Daryl who didn’t exist but use liberty on the actual comic book facts. I agree it may be Glenn but Maggie’s demise seemed too obvious….now she can be the forever forlorn Gaggie. I don’t think they will ever kill Rick off, he’s kind of the core of the show. Michonne doesn’t die from Neigan in the cb and don’t you dare mess with Daryl. They killed off Sasha Alexander on NCIS when it was good in the finale. People went crazy all summer and the same thing would have happened if they had the balls to show who got it last night.

  21. FingerBinger says:

This was the worst season finale in the show’s history.

  22. Dragonlady sakura says:

I was truly pissed off at last nights season finale. I hate when I feel jerked around and this cliff hanger was just that. I’ve read the comics, but since the tv show doesn’t necessarily follow them to the letter, I feel either Glenn or Daryl was killed. Michonne, taking Andrea’s place in the comics, is safe and so is Carl. The secondary characters (Rosita, Eugene, Sasha) don’t really bring outrage to me if they were killed. If Glenn or Daryl were killed, I’m rioting in the streets.

  23. The Original G says:

They should kill off the writer. As for who died, the question is soon going to be, “Who cares.” I wonder if the writer even knows? They’ve got the summer to work it out.

TWD missed an opportunity to create a tight impactful episode. Even with Stanton’s bravura performance, this is crapola.

    • BB says:

I already have that “who cares” who died feeling. After last night’s episode I sorta wish they’d kill them all and revamp the entire show!

    • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

      @the original G – who’s Stanton?

  24. Valois says:

I still think Glenn is the one who is most likely to die.
My other guesses are Abe (The way he was talking about settling down with Sasha. And if Negan wants to scare the group by killing the strongest guy, it’s him.)
Aaron (that would my guess if they are too scared to kill of a major character).

    • greenmonster says:

Yeah, I think so too. Abe making up with Eugene made me think, he could be the one to die. And earlier in the episode it was Aaron who insisted on going with Rick and the rest, makes him another good candidate.

But maybe the writers haven’t even decided yet. I was very disappointed with the cliffhanger. “The end of the story is what people saw and when we reveal who was on the receiving end, that’s going to be the start of another story… ” Really? NO kidding? The death of this person is leading to another story? Wouldn’t have thought of that. Because showing the viewers who had to die would lead nowhere.

In the next season could they please listen to someone else than Rick when it comes to making plans? His plans usually end up in a desaster. AND will season 7 reveal how he got out of the RV that was surrounded by walkers in the middle of this season?

  25. partasti says:

I am done watching this show live. Writers had a Red Wedding like moment on their hands and the f’d it up big time. Back to the netflix queue for TWD.

Acting was great, JDM nailed Neagan but the writers failed them and ruined what should have been an iconic moment.

  26. isabelle says:

All I have to say is F’*** the ending. They built the whole season for the one moment Negan would appear and it fell flat…and the bat was aimed more to the audience than anyone in the group. Who died? The writing for this show.

  27. Mr. Stinky-FishFace says:

So basically I feel like NO ONE here remembers when this is how TV shows used to end. A major cliffhanger begging us to come back to next season. It doesn’t bother me that they did this because I miss shows like this, I miss the speculation that comes with these and if they’re going go along with script material.

If you showed the death yes you get the instant gratification and shock value, but you also lose half the next season getting to do a phenomenal opening. Perhaps I’m just a dork, but for me I’d rather have season finales like this rather than something wrapped up in a cute little bow.

    • Nancy says:

Mr. Stinky FF: Love your name! I mentioned above Sasha Alexandar was killed in the season finale like ten yrs ago on NCIS when the show was watchable. It was epic and it’s all people talked about for a long time. Back in the 80’s or 90’s it was who shot J.R. I don’t like the bait and wait. The storyline would have been just as relevant next season without the four or five month wait. In fact, it would be what everyone was talking about today. Most people seem less than thrilled with the lack luster finale…..especially when they tried to play the Daryl is dead game last week. I would prefer to know now, but my vote doesn’t count.

    • Esther says:

you cant compare how shows used to end because we live in different times. with the internet and social media we will all know who dies months before it airs. its not about instant gratification, its about being spoiled.
we’ll see who is on the set to shoot and who books other shows and then we’ll know.

back in the days when you basically only had your tv guide you could do shows like this and i would agree but not in modern times.

    • The Original G says:

Yeah, but SOMETHING dramatic happened between end of season cliffhangers.

  28. BeachBelle says:

Jumped the shark. They make such stupid horror movie mistakes and they’re years into this thing now so they should be learning and growing in a way that prevents them from running into ever more sadistic bad guys. I can’t deal with the emotional cliffhangers anymore like it’s a Saturday morning cartoon. “Oh no Scoobs! How’s the gang going to get away this time?!”. They just aren’t learning and there’s so little character development on the new people from like Rosita onward that it’s kinda hard to care about them. Here’s an idea, move to Montana. Less populated areas probably have less zombies since they had less people to begin with. Find a natural fortress in Colorado where you can grow stuff and hole up for the winter. You’ve had six years and they’re still hacking at the weeds. The writers have squandered such great plot development opportunities that at this point it feels like sadistic disaster pr0n. Bottom line, people suck, get away from areas where there are likely to be sucky people and more zombies.

So I’m done with this show. I might watch the very last episode of the last season or read about it later and think “oh cool Carl or whomever made it. Neat.”

  29. Kinnakee says:

So 90 minutes of roadtrip: boring but reasonable when you realize they were trying to show how big Negan’s group is and that he’s a strategist.
Carol and Darryl wouldn’t die because none of them were supposed to be in the series at this point, so why would they be cut off now?
I only read the first issues of the comic books, but I know Glenn is the one who meets Lucille, but I don’t think they’d follow that in the series after all that “is he dead or not” drama from the mid season and they’d like to do it a bit differently than the original story so the ones who read it would also be surprised.
So my guess is either Eugene or Abraham. They were saying goodbye to each other before, Eugene gave Rick the “recipies” for making bullets. But since I’ve heard Eugene has some relevance in the future, and Abraham was supposed to die instead Denise in the original story, and he was starting to make plans with Sasha, I would bet on him. And the female scream at the end could be Sasha’s or Rosita’s.
But if you as me who I’d prefered it was… Rick would be on the top of my list. He’s grown to be such an annoying caracter and *spoiler alert* I think Maggie would make a much better leader than him.

  30. cat says:

I loved the final episode. I am not surprised they are making us wait, until the next season, to know who was killed. It makes sense to me. I watch the show with a family member, and we will discuss it, until next season.

  31. Arpeggi says:

*spoiler to anyone who knows nothing about the comics*

The cliffhanger is stupid because we know at this point who dies, it’s known since the #100 comic, it’s Glenn and it’d make no sense whatsoever to kill someone else. I loved how the scene was filmed but it could have been great to do that in the second-to-last episode of the season and show the group then heading to the Hilltop and grieving him during the season finale. Maybe use Carl heading to the Saviors’ compound as the cliffhanger.

I know that deaths are swapped between the comics and the show; Carol is long gone at this point, but Sophia’s stil alive, Daryl doesn’t exist, etc., but it’d make no sense to off anyone else but Glenn. Maggie has to have Hershel Jr., Carl & Rick are safe ’til the end, Michonne is safe for a while and no one cares that much about Sasha, Abraham or Eugene to make killing them worth it. Same goes for Daryl at this point.

I actually enjoyed how The Kingdom was introduced last night with Morgan and Carol. Since they’ve been good at hiring ppl from The Wire, might I suggest Wendell Pierce for Ezekiel? That’d be awesome.

As much as the show’s been flawed in the past 2 seasons, I really enjoyed this past half season, and really: what an awesome casting for Negan! It’s telling that I have very little crap to give for Rick at this point, but I was beaming when Negan showed up. He pretty muched saved the season for me

How far along in the pregnancy would Maggie have to be so if there’s a miscarriage the fetus turns zombie and starts eating Magg’s insides? Would that be too extreme for TWD?

Instead of having people talk about who was killed all summer long, until the new season starts –

they make a cliffhanger which pisses off people and makes them possibly not want to watch the next season.

    Well done, writers! /sarcasm

I completely disagree, I loved this season and it was so exciting to me to see them bring in all the plot elements and characters from the comic. I’ve noticed there’s a divide between comic fans and show-only fans this season, where for once the comic fans are satisfied and the show fans aren’t. Obviously there are comic fans who didn’t like the season, but the general feeling seems to be that comic fans are viewing it in a more positive light.

It all makes a lot more sense if you see background characters and you know how they fit into the story, I guess. I didn’t feel like the season was filler-heavy the way I did in previous seasons. I was so happy to see The Kingdom brought in with Carol and Morgan. I love their arc, the way he’s translating his desire to save people into saving her and she’s slowly letting him. They’re growing and learning from each other and it’s so well-acted.

I think it’s 100% obvious who is going to die. There’s just no way at this point it would make sense for anyone other than Glenn to die, even if you don’t take the iconic comic moment into account. They said the death will be a catalyst to a story, and clearly they’re going to follow the comic story of Maggie becoming a strong leader in the wake of his death. They’ve already sown the seeds with her scenes with Gregory.

I didn’t mind the cliffhanger because I guess it’s very obvious who is going to die so it doesn’t really feel like a cliffhanger to me.

I’m not that familiar with the comic books, but I did enjoy this season. It was not their strongest and it wasn’t the strongest finale, but I don’t see how the show seemingly jumped the shark just now. It was still much better than all the episodes with the Governor and Andrea and the show somehow recovered from it. And the next season has a potential of being waay more enjoyable as Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an excellent Negan.

I could have done without the cliffhanger, but I’m actually grateful they didn’t show the act of being Lucilled from the wide shot and I hope they never will. I watch all the walker stuff without even flinching – characters covered in zombie guts – ok, walkers as pets – fine, skin being ripped from walker’s face – why not, but that last Negan scene made me sick to my stomach, even though it was the victim’s POV. So my only wish for the next episode is that they’ll show the body and other people’s reactions, but won’t go back to the scene itself.

I’d be sad to see Glen go, but it’s true that his death would make the most sense. Aaron, Sasha, Rosita and Eugene’s deaths wouldn’t make that much impact on the viewers, Daryl’s would make too much impact and Gimple won’t risk that, we know from Negan’s words that it’s not Rick and Carl, and choosing to kill an already weak pregnant woman would make him look pathetic, not menacing. So we’re left with Abraham, Michonne and Glen. Abraham makes sense in a way that he is a strong guy, so killing him would show Negan’s power plus he started making plans with Sasha, made amends with Eugene and became more likable in the last episode, which usually ends badly. But his death wouldn’t really serve as a game-changer for any other characters except Sasha, who already survived the deaths of Tyreese and Bob and it didn’t change her that much. Killing another love interest for Rick would be too repetitive and they won’t kill yet another black character after so much backlash, so it’s not Michonne. So yes, it seems to be Glen.

I didn’t think it was ridiculous at all that Gabriel was left in charge. First of all, there’s practically no one left in Alexandria — THAT’S what was ridiculous — everyone taking off after people whom we know can handle themselves and leaving the relative safety of home.

Secondly he’s been shown fighting alongside Rick’s group and training with weapons. I don’t think sniveling-backstabber-to-useful-teammate is an unbelievable transition for the character.
