Blake Lively vs. Jessica Chastain: who had the better gown at Cannes?

151776PCN_OpeningCannes065

By most accounts, Blake Lively’s part in Café Society is pretty small. She wasn’t even asked anything at the press conference, which might have been related more to the fact that people think she doesn’t have much to say? My point is that Blake is really, really happy that she has an excuse to get all dressed up in Cannes, and her excitement doesn’t necessarily match the state of her career. But she’s also got a career as a fashion girl/model, so wouldn’t you expect something more from Blake than this totally sleepy Versace? I think it was supposed to look rose-gold, but in some photos, it just looks like a basic, sparkly nude dress that we’ve seen a million times before. But hey, at least her girls have some much-needed support in this dress.

Mark your calendars! On May 12, 2016, I didn’t have one bad thing to say about Jessica Chastain on the red carpet. It’s a Cannes Miracle! Chastain also wore Versace, but her Versace was WORLDS better than Blake’s. I love the structure of the corset. I love the silhouette. I love this shade of yellow on a pale redhead. I even love her hair, makeup and jewelry here! Seriously, this is maybe her best red carpet appearance of all time. Update: Chastain’s gown was misidentified on Twitter last night, my bad – it is Armani, not Versace.

Anna Kendrick also experimented with the “in” color this season, shades of butter/marigold. This Stella McCartney gown veers more towards marigold and mustard, and as such, I have mixed feelings about it. Some people absolutely adore mustard on the red carpet, but I rarely do. I think this is too orangey-yellow. Plus, the actual design is just blah.

I actually think Blake Lively told rocked this look. Like she looks like a straight up Goddess in this dress. Everything looks fantastic from her curves to her hair to her make up.
PS in regards to her not getting asked a single question at the presser. I found it odd that people are saying that because there’s a video of her speaking at the presser. Then again who cares. She’s at Cannes for the fashion, obviously. That’s her forte and she should run with it because the woman looks amazing here.

    • Sam says:

I just wrote in my comment that I’m getting a goddess vibe from her. She looks really really good here.

    • Locke Lamora says:

The dress is fine, but these extra few phounds look amazing on her. What a figure, my God.
      Jessica also looks sensational.

      • Bebe says:

@Locke Lamora yea it’s her figure that’s totally rocking the look. I didn’t know the woman had curves like that.

      • QQ says:

YESSSSSS that was my take away like Ok fine nudey dress but BOMB extra pounds on her

      • Kitten says:

She has a great shape, with or without the extra weight.

I think she looks incredibly gorgeous here. Sometimes I wish she’d do something different with her hair but the long, flowing locks seems to be her thing so meh.

      • Elisa the I. says:

        +1, both look stunning!

    • Goats on the Roof says:

      Yeah, Blake looks great here.

    • Mgsota says:

Yes! Blake is a goddess! I couldn’t stop staring at the pictures when I saw them last night…and zooming in! What a figure! She looks soooooo good.

Jessica looks amazing too but it instantly reminded me of the yellow Oscar dress Renee Zellweger rocked many moons ago. Basically, been there done that kind of look.

    • Sam says:

Totally agree. Blake looks absolutely stunning. the dress is gorgeous. And Jessica looks stunning as well. As a fellow pale woman I generally cannot pull off yellow – but I haven’t tried that shade. given me some style inspiration.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

What is up on the bodice in the bust area? Some unfortunate dart versus sequin battle? That’s some seriously unfortunate construction flaw. Yes.

      • Mel M says:

Yes I noticed that too. And how does she look less pregnant every time I see a photo of her? Those pics of her doing reshoots with the wetsuit on made her look at least 6 mo along and now she barely looks pregnant.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

        @ Mel M-
Spanx? I cannot fathom what that would have felt like. Torture, I’d guess.

    • Sarah(too) says:

Agreed. I think Blake Lively is one of the most beautiful women out there. And who wouldn’t be excited to get to go to Cannes and be dressed by wonderful designers?

As for the others, Anna Kendrick just never does it for me. Jessica looks spectacular, however. And I want her necklace!

  2. Coco says:

Wow, the upper half of her body looks night and day from the red ensamble. What a difference support makes!

    • Snowflake says:

I thought Kristen should have been the one wearing a bra on that other post. The white t-shirt with no bra looked trashy. I thought Blake looked fine without a bra.

  3. Sam says:

Blake Lively is officially a goddess. That’s all that I got from this post. Just wow. Ryan Reynolds you’re a lucky dude.

    • Jayna says:

Thank God, Ben was married when he met Blake, since he was so gaga over her (No. I don’t believe she slept with married Ben, because I don’t believe she’s that type.). Otherwise, if he had single and chased her, she could have ended up married to Ben, birthing his babies, and dealing with moody Ben. LOL

I think Ryan adores her and she him. I love them as a couple.

      • Sam says:

Blake and Ben would have never worked. If Ben had his way he’s be married to her right now but I personally don’t think it would have ever gotten that far. Like I could see them having sex/hooking up but a functional relationship? Nope. Never. No way Blake puts up with his crap when she could have someone so much better.

Her and Ryan are adorable together. I really hope they last.

      • Myrna says:

Whether or not Blake and Ben hooked up, to say “She’s not that type” bothers me.
        She absolutely IS that type.
Ryan was married to Scarlet Johannson – remember?
And Blake made her move – the wedding ring didn’t matter to her.

      • Bebe says:

@MYRNA everyone knows that it was Scarjo who was cheating on Ryan at the time. Everyone tried to say it was Blake but once the gossip hit and sources came out, it was evident that she wasn’t fully committed to the relationship in that way and treated him extremely poorly. But regardless it’s not like it mattered. Ryan and Scarlett were never going to work because neither of them were invested in the relationship.

      • Kitten says:

Myrna-That’s not what happened-not even close.

I agree with Jayna that Blake is not the type to cheat and it’s unfortunate that some have painted her as a typical side-chick.

      • Myrna says:

@BeBe – this is the 1st time I’m hearing that Scarlet cheated on Ryan.
        Where was that? And who?
        I had no idea.

I agree that they probably wouldn’t have made it.
They each seemed invested in their careers more than the marriage, but what do I know.

I’ve read posts over the years and around that time that she was devastated that he had cheated.

Regardless – I was responding to Jayna’s statement that she doesn’t think Blake is “that type.”
I stand by my opinion that she absolutely IS.

      • V4Real says:

It’s kind of strange that we get so invested in the lives of some of these celebrities that we can say he/she is/isn’t the cheating type. How do any of us know that? We don’t know them personally. We only know the image they put out there for us to see.

      • teacakes says:

@Bebe – “everyone knows that it was Scarjo who was cheating on Ryan”

…?? Or is ‘everyone’ just you, because this is the first I have ever heard of any such thing.

      • Josefina says:

        @V4Real
This so much. I know this is a gossip forum, but sometimes I get the impression people forget all we are getting from these people are filtered stories.

      • amilu says:

Myrna, teacakes – maybe she’s referring to this rumor: http://www.celebitchy.com/132353/was_scarlett_johansson_fooling_around_on_ryan_reynolds/

      • perplexed says:

I thought they were all cheating.

  4. lilacflowers says:

Jessica’s dress is fitted to perfection.

    • Ellie says:

Yes, she looks way more goddess-like in that dress to me than Blake does here. If she picked this one off the rack like she claims to do with her carpet dresses, then she must have one hell of a tailor.

    • anon says:

Just wanted to say. See redheads can do yellow!

    • Kitten says:

She looks incredible. Absolutely stunning. To me, both Blake and Jess are wins.

    • INeedANap says:

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: Jessica Chastain does not get enough credit for being a total smokeshow. Her body is incredible, her rack is perfection, and her waist to hip ratio is why I work out.

I am a straight woman but I am pretty sure I would melt into a puddle of goo if I ever saw her in person.

    • lisa says:

yes i think she looks amazing and i think more “wow” than blake

    • teacakes says:

Everything about Jessica’s entire look here, is perfection.

    • Lee says:

I think Jessica is a stunning woman with an incredible completion and looks magnificent in this dress. I have always liked Jessica Chastain and I think that she nailed the Cannes carpet from head to toe with this look. Her hair, makeup and styling is on point.

  5. Maria says:

Is the Cannes theme this year Ugly men and Beautiful women?

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

No one looks good standing beside Woody Allen.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I’m interested to see if Steve Carell gets the same treatment as the women. Men usually get a pass for working with him.
I’m not saying you give them a pass, just in general.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Colin Firth was my favorite actor in the world, and I’ve never felt the same way about him since he worked with Woody Allen, but I totally know what you mean. To be honest, I probably don’t notice the men as much as the women because of the publicity pictures. He’s usually pictured with the women. I only registered CF because I was so disappointed.

      • CornyBlue says:

I used to think so too but I feel like the tide is changing ? Like I see people who point out how shit Emma Stone is for working with Allen also referencing Colin Firth. Same with someone like Andrew Garfield for working with Mel Gibson etc

      • manta says:

I bet Carell will get the same treatment as the other men who have previously worked with Allen, that’s to say a total free pass.
Just to name a few darlings of this site: Mc Gregor, Jackman, Ejiofor all worked with him years after the separation with Farrow and every time their names appear in a post, it’s a love fest. Firth, and maybe Phoenix, seem the only ones tarnished by the Allen association when it comes to male actors. So maybe I’m wrong and there’s a change of tide.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Good point. But I think the reason men get off easier is the fact that most people can name 10 actresses who’ve worked with him but barely 2 guys. And if you look at the press and the reporting that happens before and during shoots as well as the press tours afterwards, it seems like Allen puts the women front and center (I won’t believe for a second he doesn’t have a hand in this) and the men are sort of relegated to second row. With him, the women are almost always referred to – at some point – as the potential new “muse”. And frankly, I think they like it.

ETA: I refuse to watch his movies and it pains me because he does work with great actors. Some of my favorites. But I just can’t. Just like my Cosby Show DVDs are collecting dust.

      • lucy2 says:

I love Steve Carell, but I’m disappointed in anyone who chooses to work with WA.

      • Starkiller says:

While that’s definitely normally true, I disagree on this case. Many women who are considered “classy” or well-liked continually get a pass-Rachel McAdams, Freida Pinto, Hayley Atwell, Lea Seydoux, Rebecca Hall, just to name a few are all women I have never once seen taken to task for working with him. I like some of these people too, but if we slam one person for it (as we should!) we should be slamming everyone–those who are adored shouldn’t get a pass.

      • teacakes says:

@Starkiller – I don’t see the point in blasting people like Pinto, McAdams, Hiddleston, Luke Owen, Rhys-Meyers, Rebecca Hall etc who worked with him before Dylan’s story came to light again – let’s not forget that before the VF story, hardly anyone knew about it, and that includes us average gossips who thought he was gross for dating Soon-yi.

But after, though? NOPE. And double nope if they’ve got a disingenuous “don’t make me uncomfortable at a film festival, hdu!” like Lively here.

      • Jegede says:

@Starkiller – You and I know why that happens. *wink*

    • Naya says:

Truth. Every pic I have seen, she plants herself immediately next to him with her stupid smug face like she is trying to chanel 70s director muse. Its Woody Allen idiot, we dont think you are a muse, we think you are selfish PoS who is desperate for a career. I find it hilarious she is barely in the movie and doesnt feel like a complete moron posing like she is Grace Kellys second coming. Loser.

To her credit, her love for Woody is not surprising, she is afterall the asshat who romanticizes slavery simply because she knows she would have been the pampered plantation queen. Now Steve Carrell surprises me. Et tut, Michael Scott???!!

    • AJ says:

This. All I can think as I look at her next to him is, YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER.

    • lisa says:

woody looks like he is wondering if blake brought her daughter to cannes

    • Magnoliarose says:

That sums it up for me. I agree about Firth. Mr Darcy how could you!

  7. Tess says:

Who are these people that think Blake has style or talent? She’s got neither. Chastain SLAYED this look-love her!

    • Bebe says:

I’m one of those people who thinks Blake Lively has style. Call this particular look boring or what not but don’t sit here and tell me you don’t think she looks amazing in the dress. Because then you’d be lying or you need to get some glasses.

      • Jayna says:

        I agree.

      • Tess says:

@ Bebe: I actually don’t think she looks great in this dress. She looks cheap IMHO, and my eyesight is just fine

      • V4Real says:

I don’t think she looks good in that dress. I also don’t find her that attractive, no matter how much plastic surgery she has had. There’s not one pic in this post where she looks good.

      • Bridget says:

Blake wears clothes well, but does best when she’s basically just handed a whole look by the designer

      • teacakes says:

This dress is a great example of why she’ll never be the style icon she claims she is – it’s got an interesting pattern and shows off her figure nicely, but those spaghetti straps create the weirdest effect against her boobs.

    • Mimz says:

I think she got style and she has a moderate acceptable talent, which is totally fine. Not every actress needs to have Meryl Streep acting talent to be an actress, just as im sure you are not the world’s best whatever it is you do in your career. I think there’s room for everyone.

      • Mia4s says:

Not every actress needs to have Meryl Streep acting talent to be an actress,

This has certainly been proven true but it’s not a good thing!

She was aiming a bit too high for awhile looking for roles in Gravity and the Great Gatsby for example. She’s not good enough for that. A tiny part in a Woody Allen film (although she like every other actor working for him recently deserves to be trashed) and that dumb looking shark thriller are more her speed. If she’s learned her place in the pecking order she’ll do OK.

      • Mimz says:

@Mia4s But we wouldn’t be here today if everyone just “knew their own place”. We all have the right to try our luck and become better or at least try out something new. She tries, it’s not a crime. And she’s gorgeous, so she’s modeling and has hair and beauty contracts. And she’s done lots of hot girlfriend type movies, and is trying to do something other than that. Blake is hardly the wannabe actress that is being shoved down our throats everywhere. She does a few movies here and there, and yet, people seem to hate on her for even being in a few projects every year.

      • Mia4s says:

It’s not a crime at all for a medium actress to try for bigger, but it can be embarrassing to watch. 😉

    • Bebe says:

Okay @Tess…just like you “think” she looks “cheap” in this dress there are others who think she looks amazing here. No offense but there’s a reason why she’s been around for over a decade. Clearly more people than not think she has great style. She’s built a career off of it. Just because you just don’t see it doesn’t mean the style and talent aren’t there.

      • Sara says:

@Bebe Wow, you’re getting awful defensive over a below average talent with great plastic surgery, because that’s what she is. Second of all, surely you’ve heard the casting couch rumors with her and Harvey Weinstein? She certainly isn’t the first starlet to use that path to success, but I’ll give her props for the fameho tendencies that’ve kept her relevant. Come on, she’s nothing special. No need to attack others who don’t share your opinion.

      • Bebe says:

@Sara no my point is that people on here rag on her and say she has no style/talent and yet she’s been around over a decade. People just hate her for no reason what’s so ever. And yes I’ve heard the casting couch rumors. I’d believe them if she actually was cast in one of his movies.

      • Naya says:

        @Bebe

You want to know why I hate her? Specifically, she revels in the spoils borne of a practice in which she would have been sitting pretty on some balcony dressed in the finest silks and eating the finest food while watching my ancestors being whipped in the family plantation. She romantices the ugliest period in American history without a second thought of what that time really was like for others who dont share her skin tone. As far as I know, it has never occurred to her to acknowledge this pain or apologise for it. Now true to that evidently selfish nature, here she is, cavorting with Woody Friggin Allen. I dont care if she is draped in the finest diamonds, she is the ugliest woman at that festival this year. Ugly on the outside always spills outwards.

      • Mimz says:

Wow hatred. Such a strong feeling to have towards a clueless person, that you don’t even know in person. And before you jump at me, I’m black and I’m African, so I know what you are talking about, but I just think her dumb Antebellum statements were just that: Dumb. Maybe I’m an optimist, but I don’t think she or lots of people (unless you are that cooking lady or Donald Trump) really harbor those horrible feelings of missing those days. It’s like that picture/meme of a white couple at the beach in a bathing suit, and some black girls were like “I wish I was born in the 50s” . Stupid and unbelievably out of touch? yes! Clueless? yes. Do I think Blake wishes she had us as slaves to her, catering to her every need? I don’t know, I really don’t want to think like that. I don’t want to feel hatred towards people I don’t know. Ignorance is a real issue here.

      • Bebe says:

@Naya I’m an African American and I know which comments you’re talking about. However I don’t know Blake Lively and besides loving the fashion from that time period, I have never seen or heard of her doing anything that’s is called racists. I don’t know how she feels but then again neither do you. This isn’t a situation where she went out of her way to blatantly say that the time period is amazing. She just reveled in the fashion which yes shows she’s out of touch with reality but doesn’t exactly equal to her being a racist. So while I can understand why you may not like her, I don’t understand your outright hatred towards someone quite frankly you don’t even know.

      • Pepper says:

She’s been around because Gossip Girl ran for years and that made her a fashion girl. After that show got super crappy after a couple of seasons, it wasn’t her work that was getting her attention. The Affleck rumours got her a lot of press, then Leo, then marrying Ryan Reynolds, then her disaster of a lifestyle site.

I actually don’t mind her. She’s not a great actress but she has that thing that makes actors watchable despite that. But she’s not still relevant because of her day job. Gossip Girl is still the high point of her career and fame, by far. She’s not a real fashion girl either, she just wears what she’s given, she doesn’t add her own touches. It’s her personal life that’s kept her profile up.

      • Bridget says:

Just remember, Kate Bosworth’s been around for more than a decade too.

      • Mimz says:

Thanks @Bebe you said it better than I did.
I somewhat agree with you @Pepper except that she doesn’t have a stylist (although she certainly has “people”) but she dresses herself, and I think she dresses consistently well. A few misses here and there, but she knows the right people and picks the right dresses for her. I’ll give her that.

      • V4Real says:

So some people think Blake is a minimally talentless, dumb, unstylish actress. I could buy that. I don’t hate her but I don’t like her either. It baffles me that people on this site are coming down on others because they despise a certain actress. But I bet they all have a celebrity that they can’t stand.

Just because Blake has the right people behind her helping her career along doesn’t mean she’s a good actress, beautiful or a style icon. It just means she has the right connections. If it wasn’t for the Ben rumors, dating Leo and marrying Ryan she wouldn’t be as popular. And to be honest it’s not like she’s some box office draw. The Age of Adaline (with her bad acting) only pulled in a bit over 13 mil opening weekend. Yes, I saw the movie. I hope the shark movie fairs better. It probably will because the draw of the movie is Blake’s half naked ass. And let’s not forget that it was also nepotism that helped her get her start. Remember the movie Sandman? Well her father was the director. And I don’t mind nepotism if you have talent. We could say Janet Jackson got her big break due to her brothers but JJ had talent and could dance her ass off.

      • Naya says:

Yes, I actively hate this woman. She is by far the most disgusting “actress” I can think off right off the top of my head. You’ll never see me bitching about Goop as so many do here, she is harmless and actually endlessly entertaining. You’ll never ever see me moan over the success of whichever random actress (Charlize, JLaw, Aniston, Garner etc), I have nothing but respect for the grind. Get yours ladies.

But a woman who views slave times as bygone times when everything was beautiful is a selfish thoughtless b*tch. And as luck would have it, this selfish thoughtless b-tch just proved me right. Apparently she is upset that her child molesting homie was roasted at some fancy party but this delicate yellow flower cant be bothered to read the article about the silencing of that mans victim. How dare Ronan and Dylan insert their ugly pain into her “curated” glamorous world?! Sorta like how dare I insert slavery in her glamouros plantation master fantasy.

Thank God for her stupid mouth, she couldn’t help proving me right.

      • teacakes says:

@Bebe – you’re weirdly defensive, but I’d just like to point out that people dislike her for glorifying aesthetics made possible only by slavery, and trust me, that isn’t ‘no reason whatsoever’.

I mean, is this the hill you want to die on? Really?

      • Jegede says:

        @Bebe @Mimz @Kitten
Well said gurls. Completely agree with you.

Though I just really don’t know why you’re even letting the Blake rage get to you.
Lively apparently being a ‘sl*g’, ‘racist’, ‘dumb’, ‘flop’ all while still managing to be ‘basic’, ‘beige’ e.t.c is standard from them.
Surely you can see/expect the M.O by now?

It’s all about slective memory and whose a fave, rather than anything to do with truth.
Kinda funny when you look at it that way.

    • Jayna says:

She has talent. She was great in the Age of Adaline and was in just about every scene of the movie.

      • Tess says:

@ Jayna: thank you for giving me my first good laugh of the day

      • Jayna says:

        Glad to oblige, @Tess. LOL

I stand by my statement, though.

      • Mimz says:

Completely agree Jayna. I loved that movie.

      • Kitten says:

@Tess-Let me guess: you never even saw the movie.

      • Josefina says:

I thought that movie was terrible, but Blake herself was actually not the problem. She really was good.

She’s either blah or terrible in everything else I’ve seen her in, though, so I don’t think I’d call her talented.

      • amilu says:

I’ve only seen her in Hick, but I was surprised by how much I liked her in that otherwise very bad movie. I’ve only ever been aware of her through celebrity blogs.

    • Erinn says:

See, I feel similarly about Chastain. I really don’t know what it is – but there’s something about her I find SO off-putting. I know it’s completely a personal opinion/reaction, but I stand with it.

Watching her on James Cordon a week or two ago, didn’t improve my opinion of her, either.

I will say – I love her dress though.

But at the same time – I find Blake to be perfectly fine. She’s not miraculously talented or anything, but I don’t have anything against her. I think she looks amazing here, and I think I like her gown more than Jessica’s. While Jessica’s is a GORGEOUS gown, I’m a bit of a Crow for the glitter.

      • Myrna says:

Jessica Chastain must have found her a new stylist.

This is the 2nd time recently that I’ve seen pics of her looking flawless.
Her body looks perfect in this gown – it’s spot on.

        Her H.A.I.R.!!!!
Finally – someone figured out a style that doesn’t make her look balding.
She’s stunning here and so youthful.
She used to look matronly all the time…

      • tiny martian says:

Oh I agree about Chastain, I’ve never understood why she gets the roles she does. I find her to be a perfectly acceptable actress, but she’s just not that great to me. Her personality just seems to be very try hard, although it’s a bit hard to peg exactly what I find that is off about it. She does look lovely here, though!

And I saw pictures of Anna Kendrick in this dress last night and she just wowed me, I think she looks stunning! I actually like her look better than Chastain’s, I think her hair, makeup and jewelry are more elegant.

      • Mimz says:

I’m not a fan either. Like. I see JC and there’s nothing there. That’s my impression of her.
I didn’t like any of the movies i saw her in either.

      • Myrna says:

        @Mimz
You didn’t like Zero Dark Thirty?
I could watch and rematch that movie all day…

      • Kitten says:

Yeah I know what you mean, Erinn. I have mixed feelings about Chastain myself. I do think she looks absolutely stunning here though.

@TinyMartian-you summarized my feelings about her perfectly.

@Mimz-I always appreciate your level-headed comments.

      • Mimz says:

Thank you Kitten, I also always appreciate your comments. 🙂
@Myrna TBH I didn’t watch it till the end. I’m not trying to say she’s talent-less… She just lacks something. Charisma maybe? Besides,I don’t like terrorist/war or political movies. She’s just a big.. vacuum of something. I feel nothing when I see her perform.

      • Prince Valiant says:

If you read the reviews, she is praised for her role in Café Society. Even Allen said that Lively, Stone and Stewart are the most interesting young actresses at the moment. You may despise him, but you cannot deny that he is one of the most important movie directors of our times. But OK, savour your fifteen minutes of hatred, guys.

  8. mia girl says:

Forget Blake and Jessica. I’m all about Corey Stoll in these pictures.
    I find him very attractive.

  9. CornyBlue says:

I thought the Chastain dress was Armani ? They mentioned her in their Instagram I think ?
Blake looks absolutely lovely and I dont think the dress looks boring at all. Anna Kendrik looks great such a good colour on her

  10. felixswan2 says:

Wow, I think they all look great (and I’m usually not a fan of Jessica’s or Anna’s red carpet styles)!

  11. Ldub says:

Blake is out here killing these hoes.
Who looks this good several months into their pregnancy?
    *golf clap*

    • Bonnie says:

I feel ya on that one. She’s just slaying in this look. When I saw it live I was like damn this girl is killing everyone out there. And then I found out that she was pregnant and my jaw just dropped. *golf clap* indeed.

  12. Jayna says:

I love the gown, and it is stunning on Blake. Jessica Chastain looked amazing. Both are a vision on the red carpet.

  13. roxane says:

Jessica is amazing in that dress.

  14. Mimz says:

I love the understated glamour of Blake’s dress. Chastain’s dress, on the other hand, I feel like I’ve seen it 3million times, and that forcibly cinched waist / corseted look just makes me cringe, it must be so uncomfortable.
    I think Blake looks ravishing.

    • MrsBPitt says:

I totally agree…I’ve seen JC and AK’s dresses a million times before, just not in that awful color. With Blake’s curves, she looks like Jessica Rabbit! And that is a compliment!

  15. lower-case deb says:

Blake’s dress have an odd shadow around the boob area. is it my phone? looks like some sequins had fallen off or a thread had pulled.

Jessica’s dress reminds me of the yellow Zac Posen dress she wore for Cannes showing of Tree of Life. i remember saying that i love that color and cut on her then, like deathly in love. and it still holds true today! she looks amazing.

and her smile and make up. yowza!

  16. Natalie says:

    WOW. Anna Kendrick looks AMAZING.

  17. tracking says:

Meh, Chastain wore a similar dress in 2011 (strapless canary yellow), so no points for creativity. Normally I find Lively a snooze, but she looks drop-dead gorgeous here. Kendrick also looks nice.

  18. Fallon says:

I think all three ladies look great. Blake is always stunning. The dress is simple, but suits her. Jessica looks incredible – I love the structure and color of the dress. Is it dirty on the bottom at the hem? Anna also looks great, but I think the contrast of the dress color against the red carpet is what’s making it not work 100% for me.

  19. Dorothy#1 says:

Does Anna’s dress have stains on the train?

  20. Kate says:

    Anna K for the win!

  21. drnotknowitall says:

Blake looks absolutely stunning. Just amazing!

  22. serena says:

Loved Anna Kendrick’s dress, that shade of yellow/gold is the only one I can take. As such I don’t find Jessica Chastain’s one all that much.. I mean, great structure (and her girls are supported well, which is a first), but the canary-yellow really throw it all off.

  23. Freddy Spaghetti says:

I think Blake and Anna look amazing! Jessica looks better than usual, but it’s not wowing me.

  24. Joanie says:

Jessica FTW. Blake looks great, but her dress isn’t as flattering in the belly area.

  25. mrsrockstar says:

They both look great but at the bottom of the back of jessica’s dress the material is dark and it looks like she stepped into a dirty puddle instead of just a part of the design. The fit is fabulous.

  26. amilu says:

I came into this thread prepared to auto-vote Chastain, but I’m going to go with Blake. Apart from a few chest/sequin issues in the first two photos, she looks amazing. Chastain’s dress looks like it’s gotten soiled from being dragged all over Cannes. Is that deliberate design? The bottom of her train looks so dirty. And I’m not crazy about the color.

  27. Pants says:

I think they both look beautiful. I actually like Anna Kendrick’s look here too.

  28. Magnoliarose says:

They all look nice. Blake is hustling like she always has and I’m sure she knows she’s on her way to being a fashion girl/sort of actress. At least she knows her lane. JC looks a lot better than usual but I do love Anna K’s charm so it elevates her look for me.

  29. Joy says:

Blake looks great. Absolutely nothing wrong with the dress, even if it isn’t spectacular, mostly because she wears it so well. Jessica looks good too (as does Anna K) but Blake is slaying.

  30. Guest says:

Jessica Chastain…. I am in love with her. Okay. Not really. But she is my girls crush.

  31. nicegirl says:

Yay, Jessica!! I love this red carpet look on her, a big WIN! Stunningly beautiful styling, accessories on point!

  32. Mewsie says:

As someone who grew up both in a city and in a village, I have to say that Blake Lively has a vibe about her that feels like “I just got off of my combine harvester and slipped into this dress”. Jessica looks like a cute city girl and I am so so biased, but I think she is the best. She’s a vegan who glows with health and happiness… She is also talented as hell (*cough* let’s ignore Winter’s War, she maybe needed the money and wanted to make out with Chris H.? *cough*)

Also, Jessica has a natural body, Blake has been tweaking it here and there already, and Jessica is approximately 10 years older and looks younger than Blake… so all the more praise to her.

For me it’s Jessica hands down. And I know that she sometimes strays from the Hollywood red carpet dresscode with some wacky cuts and silhouettes, but life is too short to always conform! If I was famous I would make Björk seem like a reserved, conservative person.

  33. teacakes says:

The spaghetti strap situation on Blake’s dress is unfortunate-looking. The clothes she picks are good at showing off her body, but very little else.

Jessica’s is far better fitted, and the colour really suits her.

  34. SusanneToo says:

Jessica’s dress is very 50’s looking. Love it:

  35. OrangeCrush says:

Blake looks very pretty, but why does she always pose with her chin pointed sky-high? Even when she’s not trying to pose, she still sticks her chin up and out.

  36. Naddie says:

Blake looks perfect here, but despite having an amazing body, she’s like Samson: her strenght is in the hair. There’s nothing appealling about her face.
Jessica is a true beauty, I love her, but since someone here told me she resembles Eddie Redmayne, I can’t unsee it.

  37. kri says:

Jessica looks amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is how you style a redhead -take note Christina Hendrick’s stylist. Divine, Jessica!

  38. Twinkle says:

Jessica is classier. Blake looks like a hochie cochie mama.

  39. familard says:

    Hair: Chastain>Kendrick>Blake

  40. Bread and Circuses says:

    Jessica Chastain looks incredible!

I don’t like the hint of green underskirts on that dress–I think they should have gone warmer, like in the dress’s train–but other than that, this whole look is flawless and makes her look amazing.

  41. Dee says:

Chastain will always blow Lively out of the water.
