Prince Harry has organized a huge fundraising concert for Sentebale in June

Prince Harry has done a few events with the Cambridges in the past two weeks, notably the launch of Heads Together and the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday. Harry should have arrived back in Britain as a conquering hero following the second Invictus Games, which he pulled off without a hitch. The international press coverage of Harry and the games was glowing, but I feel like the coverage within Britain was somewhat muted. This is a consistent problem for Harry: he’s much more hands-on, passionate and “keen” about his charity work, but he often gets lumped in with Will and Kate’s awkward, work-shy asses and painted with the same brush. Either that, or Harry gets accused of trying to “show up” his big brother. Well, Harry’s about to do it again! Harry has organized a charity fundraiser concert at Kensington Palace Gardens for his Sentebale charity!

Prince Harry is ready to rock at the palace! The royal is set to host a concert headlined by Coldplay at Kensington Palace Gardens for his African kids’ charity on June 28. The ambitious fundraiser, aiding Sentebale, will take place against a backdrop of the palace and also star British soul singer Laura Mvula, the charity announced Wednesday.

Coldplay said in a statement, “We’re delighted to join Prince Harry for this very special concert and to support Sentebale’s incredible work with adolescents affected by HIV in Lesotho and Botswana.”

Harry, who recently told PEOPLE he regards kids as an “upgrade of us” as he makes them a focus in most of his charity work, has expanded Sentebale’s efforts to Botswana in order to widen its help across sub-Saharan Africa.

The upcoming concert, which is open for 3,000 ticket holders, will also feature George Mpanga, a newly-named ambassador for the charity who goes by the name of George the Poet and African-Norwegian singing and songwriting duo Nico and Vinz. Other names will be announced soon. Sentebale says all the proceeds raised from the event will go towards running monthly Saturday clubs, caregiver days and residential weeklong camps at the newly opened Mamohato Children’s Centre (which he Harry opened in November, delivering psychosocial support to children living with HIV in Lesotho, and later this year in Botswana.

[From People]

While Harry is absolutely not organizing this event on his own, I would imagine that he’s already done a lot of work on this and will continue to do a lot of work behind-the-scenes to insure that the concert goes off without a hitch. So he’ll have another centerpiece fundraiser/event for his years of advocacy work. What will William and Kate do on June 28th? Will they have diary issues? Or will they show up at the last minute and call this their event too? We’re going to need some extra HONKS FOR KING HARRY.

Honk for Harry. Just hope that the Lazies are not trying to bring this under their joint foundation.

    • INeedANap says:

And Harry is so proactive. Like, it’s not just that he shows up to charities scheduled for him, which is still more than what Willnot and Chutney do. He straight up creates events out of thin air and gets a massive amount of people involved. He’s ambitious. Good for him.

    • Laureez says:

Harry will not survive without their joint foundation as he gets no funding and is jobless. Oh but he lends his face to celebrity events. He must be SO busy. Not.

      • notasugarhere says:

Is this a joke, Laureez? In case not:

Their joint foundation does not provide funding for their daily lives. You can read the annual reports online, and it hovers around the $1-2 million mark net worth. W&K didn’t even get $1 million in donations to that foundation as wedding gifts. Charles had to top it off with almost $300,000 to get it over that mark. So much for the public embracing the new royal couple.

The finances for Invictus and Sentebale are completely separate from that Foundation. It sometimes donates money to those causes so W&K can claim they’re “supporting” those charities, but it donates nowhere near what it takes to run those two huge things.

Harry lives in a 2 bedroom cottage on the Kensington grounds rent free as “spare”. His annual work-and-personal expenses are paid out of the Duchy (somewhere around $400,000 to W&K’s $4,000,000).

Paid work, not right now. He volunteers three day a week at a veteran rehab while doing things like Invictus and Sentebale plus royal engagements. Most of that work doesn’t appear on the CC because I&S are considered personal charity work (not done in the name of the monarchy).

Like most of his royal generation, he has trust funds of personal money (his from Queen Mum and from Diana). It is likely his personal net worth is greater than William’s, as inheritances might have been larger because he isn’t the heir.

If they were thrown out tomorrow, he’d have that inheritance to live on and both Invictus & Sentebale as his personal charity work which he could run personally until he dies. William also has his personal inheritance of about £10 million. Living the way they do, if W&K had to support themselves out of that money, they’d be bankrupt in three years.

That’s super interesting Notasugarhere! Nice to know Harry is “set” in case things go wrong with the monarchy. I wonder if that was a conscious decision on his part…

    HONK!!!!

  3. Astrid says:

Honk for Harry. We know who the real king is even though he doesn’t get better press when he’s with the Lazies

  4. Lainey says:

Damn go Harry! He’s really putting the Cambridgeshire to shame. They’ll probably turn up and get credit for it as they always manage to. Harry’s known for being very hands on behind the scenes and has worked with Coldplay before on the anthem for the invictus games.

  5. Zapp Brannigan says:

Honk for Harry! But Willnot and Cannot will totally try to hijack the positive press for themselves.

  6. Shaboo says:

    Too distracted. Bulge.

  7. bluerunning says:

Honk for Harry! His efforts always look better when compared to the other two thirds of “the trio,” and always amazing when he can help people too

  8. Tiffany says:

The issue is they share the same press office but not the same results. Why is it Jason has had little to no problems with Harry.

  9. Green Is Good says:

    *HONK* Infinity!

And personally, I’m sick of the Do Nothings grabbing onto Harry’s coattails, glomming some free press. Their laziness is obvious to the public.

  10. Sixer says:

Coverage of Harry may well be more muted that the filthy sycophancy dished out on TV (not the press) to Twit and Twat, but I can promise you that Invictus was not ignored in the UK. You couldn’t move for it. Daily dedicated shows. At least two associated shows. Coverage on every single daytime and early evening magazine show. NOT IGNORED.

He’ll probably go back to second string now, though.

    • paleokifaru says:

I’m so glad to hear that. I really appreciate that he doesn’t just take up random causes and has very much committed himself to these few worthwhile charities and issues. His passion shines through.

    • HH says:

That’s good to know. There would be no point in sidelining the dedicated work of the veterans, just to serve a Royal narrative. I don’t keep up with the BP and KP social media ccounts, but from what I gather in the media and on here, it seems like the palace lumps WKH together, but the British press seems to draw a distinction at times. Some times they go along with the narrative of WKH being workshy (and also Harry being the playboy prince), but that seems to be giving way to dedicated and Diana-like Harry vs. lazy Cambridges. I gather that it’s actually BP and KP vs the media when it comes to the separation of WK and H.

  11. TeamAwesome says:

    HONK!!!!!

I have been really bummed by the hundreds of Bucket pictures with no great Ginger Snap snaps, so at least huzzah for good King Harry news at last!

It isn’t the ability to plan things solo that is important, it’s having the spark of idea and follow through to create a team that can pull it off whilst enthusiastically showing up to support it that I think makes a great leader.

  12. KiddVicious says:

The picture of the three of them is funny. Will and Kate look like Harry’s parents and Daddy Will is disapproving of something. Maybe Harry took the good Rolls again without asking permission.

  13. Mel M says:

    HONK, a thousand times honk!

  14. Sunsetsnow says:

    Always…Harry!

  15. Laura says:

King Harry would be ideal! The Monarchy would be safe for another generation, that’s for sure! Mega HONKS!

  16. DonLee says:

Honking for Harry! Show those 2 lazy Lima Beans how it’s supposed to be done!

  17. Poisonous Lookalike says:

    Honking for Harry!

  18. Snazzy says:

    Honking for King Harry!!

  19. Laureez says:

Sentebale organized it, not Harry. Honk for his jobless arse. He’s a mere celebrity face.

    • notasugarhere says:

Sentebale only exists because Seeiso and Harry created it 10+ years ago. The staff who run Sentebale are only paid because of fund raising done by the two founders. It has a big name former Oxfam employee running it because Harry and his charm hired her away. Sentebale only continues to exist due to fund raising, mostly fronted by Harry (polo cup, Chelsea garden, this concert).

I can’t tell. Are you just doing general trolling? Or are you a W&K fan who doesn’t understand how monarchy, royal funding, and these private charities of Harry’s work?

      • Izzy says:

My guess is troll, haven’t seen this commenter before, and they clearly know nothing about the reality of Prince Ginger Snaps and his charity work. Also, this poster seems to forget Harry’s ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY.

        HONKS FOR HARRY!!

  20. Rae says:

    Honking for King Harry!

  21. Megan says:

Honk honk honk. He is the next generation Royal.

  22. ib says:

    HONK!

  23. Betsy says:

    Yay Harry!

Nice pic of Kate looking stoned in the garden.

  24. Nanea says:

Honking for His Royal Hotness, aka Harry Wales.

  25. BearcatLawyer says:

I would give anything to go to this concert. Especially if I got to meet King Ginger Snap in person!

  26. Izzy says:

If the KP PR machine tries to spin the Sentebale concert as having anything whatsoever to do with Duke and Duchess Donothing, I say we all start tweeting them that WE KNOW BETTER.

  27. Boo says:

He is the better version of Brad Pitt. The man Brad Pitt wishes he was anyway.

Harry and Angelina…. now that’s a duo who would be fantastic together. Sigh. Shame it will never happen.

  28. Dewby says:

way too many pictures of Willy & Nilly at the events that they manage to show up at. More please of the Queen/ Harry/Anne/Zara/Sophie/Summer & spouses and all their kids – they look more genuine to me.

  29. V.B says:

A thousand honks for King Harry!
