Rupert Friend eloped with Aimee Mullins, they got married in a compost shed

Today is the one-month anniversary of being happily married to @AimeeMullins! #ilovemywife

I mostly know Rupert Friend from his stint on Homeland, and because he dated Keira Knightley years ago. Okay, I also know him because I think he’s really hot in that dirty kind of Ethan Hawke way. Rupert started dating an American lady about three years ago, and they just got married – they eloped! – a month ago and we’re just finding out about it now. The lady is former Paralympic sprinter Aimee Mullins – her lower legs were amputated when she was child, and she’s been in the Paralympics, plus she’s a model and motivational speaker. Aimee and Rupert got engaged in December 2014, and I sort of forgot about it. I guess they didn’t have time to plan a big wedding, or maybe they didn’t care about a big wedding, because they seemed to pull together this elopement at the last minute.

Still, their wedding seemed like a sweet, lovely affair. I think their idea was to get married outside, with just their friend officiating the wedding and another friend as a witness. But it started raining, and so they ended up getting married in a lovely compost shed. The bride wore an Olivier Theyskens cocktail-ish dress that I actually think she could and will wear again. I like her lace birdcage veil and the whole look is very stylish and lovely. After their rainy-day compost-shed wedding, the bride and groom played pool with their two friends! Which is probably one of the best wedding-reception ideas ever.

The bride looks so chic! And Rupert is hot. Also: I LOVE when people post their wedding photos to Instagram. It’s one of my favorite things.

    Sweet.

Pride & Prejudice, The Young Victoria, and Cheri for Rupert.

Sounds like a perfect wedding to me. I don’t know how it qualifies as eloping though. They’ve been engaged for some time so their relationship and plans to marry were hardly a secret.

the shed is like a quaint little chocolate box cottage from the front.

I think he’s hot too! Cute story and wedding, even to snarky old me.

    Congrats! Lovely couple! 😍

I remember when Friend was dating Keira Knightley and he ALWAYS dressed and styled himself to copy Orlando Bloom.

    How times have changed.

    Congratulations to the couple.

I was actually just thinking that he’s aged how everyone thought Orlando Bloom would age. He looks a heck of a lot better than Bloom at this point.

Congrats to them, and love her flowers! Not so much a fan of the dress, tho.

The last photo in front of the shed is EVERYTHING, rainy day included!

I think this is a very sweet and simple wedding, but it could need a few more people like their parents, friends and family. It would be a lovely wedding, I absolutely love the shed at the background. I don’t care if it is raining or sunny, it is a beautiful wedding.

    Congrats to both of them

    Who took the photos?

  15. Samtha says:

Aw, they look so happy. I love how sweet and simple, as kiki put it above, the wedding was.

Beautiful, unpretentious and joyful. I love her dress and he is very attractive. Well, so is she, now that I mention it. I love weddings that are about how much you love, not how much you have.

  17. tracking says:

Aw, so lovely and she is such an inspiration.

  18. Abby says:

Beautiful photos! Loved him as the dastardly Mr. Wickham in Pride & Prejudice, and also his role in The Young Victiria.

  19. Stella says:

    Gorgeous dress and veil-let.

I LOVE that sh*t that’s as bridal as I’d get personally

  24. clairej says:

So cool. I loved him in ‘Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont’. He is wonderful in it, lovely film.

  25. Mrs. Darcy says:

He’s usually so private that this is really sweet and cool of him to post these pics. They look loved up and adorable, I dig how low key it is. Now if only Quinn makes a miraculous recovery in Homeland my life will be made! I hate that stupid show for what they did to him.
