Margot Robbie in MiuMiu at the UK ‘Legend of Tarzan’ premiere: hot or boring?

wenn24969090

Here are some photos from last night’s London premiere of The Legend of Tarzan, which is still sitting at 34% at Rotten Tomatoes. Critically, this film was not well-received, but it has already made $65 million worldwide, so I suspect the film will (at the very least) break even when all is said and done. Alexander Skarsgard won’t have to preside over a gigantic bomb, which is good for all of us who enjoy the Swedish Viking.

You can tell that Alex’s costar Margot Robbie is trying to push the film a bit harder now too. Probably because she doesn’t want to have to wear it either if the film completely bombs. Margot wore this MiuMiu gown to the premiere and… it’s not her best look. I think Margot is really beautiful and striking but this whole look does nothing for her or for me. Why did her hair stylist do this to her hair? Why did her stylist choose this dress? This was an opportunity to really wow everyone and it just feels like her team was phoning it in.

Alex’s girlfriend came out for the premiere too. Alexa Chung wore Alessandra Rich and I really, really don’t like it. Then again, I never really understood why Alexa was ever a thing, or why she’s still a thing now. Style icon? Not so much.

Like Margot. She and Alexander seem to have great chemistry.

    • LannisterForever says:

I like her too and they are indeed very cute and seem to have natural chemistry. I’m bummed about the reviews for Tarzan though I’ll probably still see it.

      • Lee says:

Haven’t watched it yet, but I read comments of people who did and said she was amazing in it as Jane!

      • Melanie says:

f the critics, this movie was great. She was an amazing Jane. As a couple they brought the heat. One of the few films I’d see twice

    • Carol says:

Yeah, I think they are hot couple.

      • Mary says:

They are both great looking but I can’t shake the fact that if she was the one who was 39 and he was the one who was 25…..they never would have been cast. And if she was older……people would most likely be criticizing their chemistry bc that’s just how this game works. I’m not saying they don’t look good together I’m just saying…once you realize that he’s 14 years older than her and so, once again, they snubbed actresses who were ACTUALLY his age to give her this role…it kind of sucks and takes the bloom off the rose.

      • LoveIsBlynd says:

This actress is a yawnFest for me. Why are they trying to make her happen?

    • I Choose Me says:

Their chemistry was great in the movie. Margot definitely has screen presence.

    • cynic says:

I saw the movie over the weekend and enjoyed it for what it was – a good popcorn movie. I also agree that Alex and Margot have good chemistry.

  2. Laura says:

Alexa’s dress is amazing and classy. Margot looks like a Real Housewife. Alex is handsome as usual.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

I love Alexa’s look, but then again, I pretty much always love Alexa’s style. I totally get why she’s a style icon. I do think she should go back to wearing bangs.

Margot looks bad, and it’s really hard to make someone that pretty look that bad. The dress is awful, the hair is even worse.

    • Laura says:

Yes, I love her style. She has the cool English rose look down pat.

    • anna says:

totally! i love her androgynous looks as well as the frilly dresses. and i want the strappy shoes she’s wearing here. like NOW! it also doesn’t hurt that she is really funny and self- deprecating.

    • Carol says:

Yep, like Alexa’s look here – I love her style. But I like Margot’s look here too.

    • teacakes says:

yeah, Alexa has way more credibility as a style icon than the likes of Kate Bosworth or Blake Lively – at least there’s some sense of personal style beyond ‘look how thin I am’ (though she is extremely thin) or ‘look at my boobs/legs’ going on there.

And she has the ‘cool London girl’ style down pat. It’s not hard at all to see why so many people used to copy her look, even if I think she badly needs to put some weight back on. She was gorgeous in her Popworld days.

  4. Kate says:

Between the combination of that unflattering dress, and her standing next to the very tall Alex, I’m starting to think she might be ok as Tonya Harding if she bulks up a little.

  5. MrsBPitt says:

The only one who looks hot is Alex!!!

I don’t know what they did to Margot Robbie in Wolf of Wall Street, because she was absolutely gorgeous in that movie. Ever since, she is just another pretty blonde to me….

  6. INeedANap says:

I love her hustle and I am stoked for her to produce a Birds of Prey movie. Get it, girl.

Separately, I have a few guy friends who think Alexa Chung is super hot, specifically her legs (“that leggy hottie” is the term used). I…do not understand.

  7. als says:

I’ve seen some interviews with Alexa Chung and she comes across as nice, maybe a bit quirky and I think a lot of people in the biz like her (perhaps consider her edgy). So, connections.

    • LAK says:

Alexa doesn’t come from money or connections.

She started out as a teen model after being spotted at a festival and switched to co-presenting uber trendy shows on channel 4 based around music and fashion and in the process became uber trendy herself.

She seems to turn lemons into lemonade because whilst her presenting work has patered out, she’s used the fashion contacts acquired to land lots of campaigns and to design popular ranges for various companies.

I, and many people, may be puzzled by her rise, but she’s done it on her own.

      • Betti says:

Yes and No, she is more known for the men she has dated and being in the society mags. Wasn’t she involved with Chris Martin while he was still married to goop?

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Connections, yes. But like LAK said, she worked for those. She’s no Hadid sister. I have to say, I like her in interviews, she seems like a normal girl and I understand why her style stands out even if it’s not my cup of tea. She and Alex are such an odd couple but I can see why they ended up together.

    • Jacky says:

Come on now, the only reason she’s known at all is because she went out with Alex Turner, her ‘career’ lives off the fumes of their relationship.

      • teacakes says:

She made a name for herself with the fashion quite apart from Turner, he wasn’t the reason her looks were getting copied and reproduced on the high street all the time in the late 2000s. She’s known as a fashion girl now, long after the band gf part was over and done.

      • LAK says:

Betti: The chris Martin thing came decades after she’d established her cool girl credentials. She was an established tween/teen star in the mid-late 00s whilst that Chris Martin thing happened 2 (?)yrs ago.

Yes, Jackie, he relationship with Alex Turner gave her tonnes of visibility, BUT she was also trendy on her own and her style copied by every teen/tween in the land for those years she was on popworld.

Her street style remains inexplicably coveted and she gets fashion contracts based upon it. None of it depends on who she is dating.

  8. paolanqar says:

Margot and Alex look HOT together.

  9. Nancy says:

Through my blurred eyes, does she not resemble Lindsey Lohan?!

  10. Lucy2 says:

I don’t care for either dress, but Alex’s suit looks sharp.
I was glad to see his movie open better than expected, most of the projections were in the low $20 million range. They were articles declaring it and the BFG flops on Friday night! I wish the media would wait and see what actually happens before making a pronouncement.

    • Laura says:

Well BFG did actually flop, really hard.

      • Lucy2 says:

BFG did flop ( I think the vague title really hurts it) but my point is that some entertainment journalists were jumping the gun and trying to put out a flop story without waiting to see what the numbers actually were.

    • Naya says:

I think this article is way too optimistic. 20% of that gross is from non-US markets. In the US, it got to run through one of the most profitable movie weekends of the year and only made 40M. For reference, it cost 180M to make. It might make back its money in the international market but this is no where near a hit and it will get no sequels

……and thank God for that. I cant imagine why anybody want to remake Tarzan as racially problematic as it is but if you must, you have to steer away from the “white savior angle”. They gave us a blonde Swedish actor playing an English aristocrat who leads the fight against slavery in Africa. Lovely.

      • Issa says:

Nice getting that #hottake in there.

      • lucy2 says:

I agree about the problematic aspects of the film – I haven’t seen it, so I don’t know how this particular film handled it, but I definitely agree the source material has issues.
I guess I should say I’m happy for ALEX that it wasn’t a huge flop opening weekend – I like him, he seems like a smart and funny guy, and the media was gunning to hang a $200+ million dollar failure on him and declare him Taylor Kitsch 2016. So while it likely won’t be considered a hit or spawn sequels, I was just glad for his sake to see that it probably won’t be a huge box office loss.

      • I Choose Me says:

Sam Jackson’s George character was the one leading the fight imo. He was the reason Tarzan even went back to Africa in the first place. It wasn’t completely a white saviour movie is what I’m saying, they tried to at least give it a few layers. And Tarzan wasn’t portrayed as some flawless hero, evidenced by the back story concerning him and Chief Mbongo.

  11. Esmom says:

I’ve been asleep at the switch because I didn’t know Alexa and Alex were together. I think she looks great although I can’t figure out what’s going on with the top of her head. A reflection? I thought it was a giant floppy bow at first.

Margot’s dress is the worst I’ve seen in a while. That bodice is heinous.

    • Carebare says:

They’re a very low key couple. she put up a cute Instagram post about him yesterday (insta-official if you will).

      • bammer says:

Low key couple? She calls the paps as much as Bosworth.

      • Carebare says:

Oh lord, I wish we could do eye roll emojis in here. I said low key couple. They’ve been dating a year and a half and there aren’t that many paparazzi pictures of them and they never talk about each other and the only people who really know they’re together are their fans (and even a lot of hers don’t know they’re dating).

  12. Sullivan says:

Alexa looks great. Head to toe. Margot looks ok, considering that dress would be unflattering on anyone.

    • MsGoblin says:

Agreed. That dress is hideous. And, although Margot is a beautiful woman, she looks a bit constipated, maybe? Ill at ease, for sure.

    • Ji-yun says:

      Margot really has awful style.

  13. Mia4s says:

It cost $180 million to make so break even is unlikely. At best it will “not lose that much money”. What were they thinking???

They’ve been pushing her hard since Wolf of Wall Street and sticking her name above titles when I really don’t think it means much. Suicide Squad might break her out but we will see. She’s got potential but her name seems to be up for every single blockbuster female role. You know who else broke out the same year as Margot? Lupita Nyong’o. I wonder if she’s been getting similar offers? 😐

    • bammer says:

You know she’s not and that’s “diverse” Hollywood for ya.

    • Mary says:

@Mia…BINGO. Look, this isn’t anything against Margot. I like her. But she’s a 25 year old hot blond. Playing opposite a 39 year old here. Let’s keep this in perspective and not be blind to the Hollywood machine at work in terms of the way race, gender and age all intersect. We are never going to see Lupita pushed the same way that Margot is and that’s so depressing. Just as we are asked to basically just swallow that a Tarzan who apparently already had adventures and is 39 years old apparently couldn’t be married to a woman his own age. It makes my stomach hurt.

  14. bammer says:

Tarzan bombed but I enjoy the fan narrative that it didn’t bomb as badly as expected so that’s a moral victory.

  15. Rocío says:

She’s so beautiful that she could wear a paper bag and still look amazing. I hope her career really takes off. She’s a breath of air. #girlcrush

    • Locke Lamora says:

I like her to, but she’s hardly a breath of fresh air. She’s a textbook Hoolywood actress.

      • Mary says:

@Locke, right? I just posted this on the thread about Pamela Anderson and Nicole Eggert. We want to badly to believe that things have changed in the last 20 years and that we have more respect now for different kinds of beauty . So why is it that the two big young actresses that Hollywood is obsessed with—Jennifer Lawrence and now Margot Robbie—-are textbook hot blondes? Look, Margot is gorgeous but let’s not pretend that she’s pushing any boundaries here. She’s the exact kind of women that men are comfortable hearing from and watching because and is first and foremost “hot” in a totally acceptable and non boundary pushing way.

  16. KV says:

Margot and Alex look hot… I think both are beautiful. I liked Margot ‘s dress and Alex’s suit.

I do not and will not ever “get” Alexa Chung. I question the fashion icon title every time I see her. Thumbs down for her… not impressed.

    • bammer says:

She’s skinny and wears fugly designer clothes but I see her fanclub has swooped in to worship their favorite IT girl. The Daily Mail features her almost everyday and all the comments are variations of what does she do.

  17. Mary says:

They look good together but just have to say….he’s 39 years old. She’s…what? 25? Yet, no one gives a crap about the age difference. If this is really supposed to be a Tarzan who went away and went back to England shouldn’t Jane ALSO be 39? But notice a 39 year old actress didn’t get this role. Nope…it went to 25 year old Margot Robbie because god forbid a love interest ina huge franchise get to be in her late 30’s. Can’t have that! Must have the 25 year old as the love interest because, of course. Of course.

    • amilu says:

I have to say, I don’t think Alex and Margo look dissimilar in age at all. Either Margot is a mature looking 26, or the rumors of her shaving her age are correct.

I have no problem with the age difference here strictly from a movie-watcher’s perspective. If she was a young-looking 26 (like Emma Watson), it might be more of an issue…for me. I know that’s not what you’re saying and that there are 39-year-old actresses out there losing out on roles to younger ladies. And, no, that’s not right or fair. But that’s Hollywood.

I recently watched Colonia with baby-faced Emma Watson and 38-year-old Daniel Bruhl as her love interest, a young activist. THAT was an age difference that stuck out at me. I love Bruhl, but he looked like her uncle.

  18. AnitaCocktail says:

It’s insane how much Margot Robbie resembles Margaux Hemingway. So beautiful.

  19. Betti says:

I’m an unashamed Margot fan and i cannot wait for Suicide Squad to come out as am only going to see it because of her and Jared Leto.

Am surprised its making money, considering all the problems around production (didn’t it go massively over budget) and its being panned.

Re: Alexa. Have never gotten her – i find her rather bland. Her presenting skills leave a lot to be desired.

  20. Sammy says:

Ugh……It looks like the Alexa Chung teenage Army have discovered Celebitchy, there goes the neighbourhood.

I just wanted to see some Viking in a suit pics and I’m surprised to see she’s still rubbing her bones on him and destroying the hotness.

    • I’m hardly a teen, and I totally love Alexa’s style choice here. To me the dress is adorable. Not quite nighttime/premiere wear, but it’s lovely. The style elements are eye catching and while on another person the juxtaposition of a print dress with a white tailored collar having a thigh high slit might look odd, in her case it prevents the dress from looking staid and dowdy. It reminds me of a thirties dress that a Carole Lombard would wear. For me Alexa style choices are unique, they don’t always work but they mostly do.
And I agree with others that don’t get Margot. For me Margo is another tall, young blond who’s indistinguishable from the rest. I have yet to be impressed with either her looks or her acting.

  21. Carebare says:

This is a fairly disgusting comment, but par for the course on this website, where apparently everyone runs to read the daily fail.

  22. NeoCleo says:

She’s so beautiful it’s hard for a stylist to foul up but they really worked hard to do so this time.

  23. Rino4 says:

    Alexa = Olive
All she needs is a bun

  24. dj says:

I saw the movie and liked it. Samuel L. Jackson was very good and helped the diversity & “white savior” aspect some. It was not an origin story so that was nice too. It had nice flashbacks of the origin story so you got that aspect too. It was a fun popcorn movie and I love, love me some Viking and Margot was good too. My husband liked it much better than he thought he was going to also. I did not see much advertised this summer (movie wise) that was even going to get me to go to the theater…so there it is. Plus, I saw Indep Day 2 now THAT deserved 32% Rotten Tomatoes but this on the audience part was in the 70% (the critics had it at 32% not the audience).

  25. Fan says:

Even the box office is rigged. I don’t believe for a moment that Finding Dory is Trepeats. They are promoting that movie for a reason.
