Blac Chyna wants to gain 100 lbs: ‘Why should I watch my weight while pregnant?’

chyna1

Blac Chyna is feeling herself these days. She posted these Instagrams this week, showing off her pregnant belly in a clingy dress. The IG photos are cute, but Chyna is obviously working her angles, because in candid photos, her body looks a lot different. Chyna is definitely enjoying her pregnancy, much like Jessica Simpson enjoyed her first pregnancy, the one where Jess ate ALL the slutty brownies ever and gained something like 70-80 pounds. And much like Jessica Simpson circa 2012, I’m really tired of people calling Blac Chyna “fat.” I just have a thing about this: no one should call a pregnant woman “fat.” Ever. Chyna seems to feel the same way too – when she posted these IGs, she asked “Why should I watch my weight when I’m pregnant?”

Blac Chyna is enjoying her pregnancy. The soon-to-be Mrs. Kardashian took to Instagram to show her followers her growing curves, where she put her baby bump front and center. Chyna wanted everyone to know that she not only loves her changing body but she is also embracing it. “Why should I watch my weight when I’m pregnant,” she asked in the caption. Posing for another full-body photo, Chyna wrote, “Y’all Know That I Don’t Play.”

Just last month, the Lashed salon owner took to Snapchat to give her fans and followers a close look at her pregnancy diet. The delicious food, which included scrambled eggs with cheese and Cornish hens stuffed with butter, onions, sautéed kale and onions, are part of her diet to attain her goal weight. “My goal is to gain like 100 pounds this pregnancy,” she admitted into the camera. “I’m going to tear it up and then I’m going to snap back.”

[From E! News]

While I don’t believe we should ever call a pregnant woman “fat,” I also think it’s sort of fair to judge Chyna based on statements she’s making publicly. While she has every right to do what she wants and eat how she wants, telling the world that you hope to gain 100 pounds while pregnant will of course bring criticism and comments. Gaining 100 pounds during a pregnancy is unhealthy, full-stop, even if you’re convinced that you can “snap back.” Chyna is also built like the Jessica Simpsons and Kim Kardashians of the world, and those short, curvy women are never going to have lithe, small pregnancies, so maybe Chyna is just “leaning in” to a certain extent. It does feel like Chyna is going out of her way to gain weight though? Maybe she’s hoping to score a weight loss contract after she gives birth. In which case, we’re playing straight into her hands!

Dang, the girl’s got curves! Color me envious.

  2. Squiggisbig says:

Gestational diabetes is no joke! Definitely don’t think that gaining 100 lbs during pregnancy should be anyone’s goal.

    • FingerBinger says:

100 lbs is your goal when you’re angling to get a deal from weight watchers or jenny craig.

      • Santia says:

I wish we could “like” comments here, if only to like this one. She’s bought into the Kardashian model hook, line and sinker.

      • teacakes says:

@Santia that would be a weird kind of Ourobouros situation, considering Black Chyna’s look got ripped off and capitalised on by at least one member of the Klan.

      • Santia says:

@Teacakes – No doubt the Koven ripped off her “look,” but she is following the Kardashian model of famewhoring.

      • hogtowngooner says:

        BINGO

      • Shelleycon says:

Yeah ditto everything is a ‘deal’ when you live in Kartrash world

    • Lilacflowers says:

      Exactly.

    • Lynnie says:

Isn’t that not healthy for the baby either? At least she’s enjoying her pregnancy lol

    • Flowerchild says:

Wasn’t that like Jessica Simpson goal during her first pregnancy?

    • mabel says:

Exactly. Gestational diabetes is a serious matter.

    • PrincessMe says:

Let me just preface my comment by saying I wouldn’t have commented had she not brought it up. Nobody should be calling her fat, but she also should be considering her health and the health of her baby and not going balls-to-the-wall unhealthy (obviously, I don’t know if she’s doing that). Just from the way she worded the statement, it sounds like those “pregnancy is an excuse to eat whatever, whenever” statements and that’s just not healthy for either one of them (IMHO). At the end of the day, though, it’s her life (and her baby’s) and she can make whatever decision she wants.

    • Wren says:

I doubt it’s her goal either. She’s just saying something outlandish to garner attention and set herself up for a lucrative weight loss contract. And hey, looks like the first part worked great! Now to capitalize…..

    • holly hobby says:

That’s what I was going to say. Huge weight gain = gestational diabetes and an overly large baby (makes labor harder). This is not a judgey comment. I was hammered in the head by my OB/GYN about watching the weight when I was pregnant.

    • Kiliki says:

      My first thought: gestational diabetes.

      Please stay healthy and happy!

    • Wren33 says:

i had gestational diabetes and only gained about 15 pounds, so it is not always linked. But yeah, some people gain pregnancy weight more easily than others, but you are still going to have to take it off so I wouldn’t do it on purpose…

      • MC2 says:

I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancies as well and did not gain much weight & ate well. People would ask what I ate all the time and judge my diet. It was genetic and I followed the diet with my 2nd pregnancy and also had it. It was not linked to what I ate.
That said, I learned how important it is to eat healthy while pregnant, not just for the baby but for the mom too.

    • JenniferJustice says:

yes. I disagree she has every right to do what she wants at this stage. The baby should be first priority and gaining 100 lbs isn’t good for Chyna or the baby.

On a purely vain streak, snapping back isn’t is easy as she thinks. Losing a hundred pounds is a feat in itself, but the skin and muscles change. I suppose with KKlan money, she’ll be able to go under the knife and cheat.

      • Isa says:

Yes! The skin will be all jacked up.

      • MC2 says:

She does have every right to do whatever she wants at this stage. Thinking that women do not because they are pregnant, is a dangerous slope…..

I agree that the baby & health should be the first priority and sad if it is not. I just always bristle when I hear what pregnant women can & can’t do.

    • Susan says:

Childhood Diabetis! And it is genetic – isn’t Rob a diabetic? i see how Diabetis I and II destroys a body and eyesight.

  3. Bridget says:

His and hers weight loss contract?

It’s her body, and her health is between her and her OB. Though good luck “snapping back”. Bold prediction to make.

    • Size Does Matter says:

Yes exactly on the snapping back. Good luck with that, Blac Chyna. It will not be fun.

      • Bridget says:

I think it’s funny that we’re talking about someone just eating a lot stuff cooked with butter and cheese. I mean, it could be way worse – not a slutty brownie in sight.

      • Jwoolman says:

I’m with Bridget. Kale and onions? Eggs? Oh, the horror! She probably knows from her first pregnancy that she puts on a lot of weight just looking at pictures of food, so she’s having some fun with the gullible.

      • Wren says:

Honestly her diet includes a lot of stuff that mine did when I lost weight. Butter, cheese, chicken, kale, onions. It sounds decadent but it’s not, really. Just add some more vegetables and keep the portion sizes appropriate. And stay away from added sugar and empty carbs.

      • Maire3 says:

I remember reading a few Allure & In Style magazines after Jennifer Garner had her first child. She too thought her body would easily revert to its former size, given her rigorous training for Alias. She repeatedly said she was shocked to discover that nursing her daughter was not the “magic solution” that worked for her sisters & her friends.

It’s crazy what pregnancy does to one’s body. Each one is different.

    • holly hobby says:

She has the means to “snap back” = Lipo and plastic surgery.

  4. paolanqar says:

    Her behind is monstrous.

    • TG says:

Don’t you get tired of writing the same thing, every single time?

      • paolanqar says:

No because it is true and since that butt is not real I feel in no way guilty of body shaming anybody. It is monstrous and i can keep saying it as much as I like.

      • Alex says:

The beauty of life is that life shows you and makes you eat your words. Maybe in a future you will get a monstrous ass and you will regretted

      • paolanqar says:

I’d have to buy one first. I don’t see that happening any time soon.

      • crtb says:

        @TG: Really??
Don’t people get tired of saying the same things about Princess Kate? or Madonna? or Jennifer Anniston? or LeAnn Rimes?

        @Alex
If that is true, then everyone on this site should have a big butt for all the things we have said about Kim K.

    • Snowflake says:

Yeah, i guess everyone is going to pretend her “curves” are natural today. She looks ridiculous. She should demand a refund of the $$ she paid for it

  5. Lama Bean says:

I at least admire she’s wearing flats when she actually needs to walk.

I’m not preggers but hormone shifts are a beast in my situation so I can’t imagine how bad they are when pregnant. I was craving Claussen pickles and Haagen das for weeks (not together). Tried a pickle last night and could barely finish it was so bad.

I wouldn’t say “I’m going to gain x lbs” but I don’t disparage pregnant women for indulging in cravings. The common person would not understand the hormone surge.

    • Matomedah says:

I’m 34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd. I was/am very concerned about a healthy me and a healthy baby. I eat better now than when I wasn’t pregnant, and I exercise more! I’m not disparaging her- she can absolutely do what she wants with her body, of course of course- I’m just saying some go to the other side and actually don’t indulge.

      • Annie says:

Would you mind sharing what you do for exercise? Normally athletic, circumstances left me sedentary for a few months before I was pregnant with my first. Everyone I knew told me not to make changes in my routine and, at most, walk. But it felt miserable, like I was being confined to the couch. I’d really like to avoid that forced lethargy if we’re able to have a second, so I’m wondering how you started doing more?

      • JS says:

Annie – have you tried swimming? As someone who usually worked out pretty intensely before I got pregnant (HIIT treadmill, weight lifting, spinning, etc.), I had to stop running after my first trimester because it made me really crampy and killed my hips. Walking doesn’t always seem like enough, so now I try to swim and do barre. Swimming is a serious workout and it’s so much easier on your joints/muscles. You should try it if you access to a pool! I’m 7 months pregnant now and the suggestion came from my OB so it’s perfectly safe…

      • JustJJ says:

I’m preg and I think you just have to keep an eye on things. If you’re staying physical, I think that’s all that matters to keep your energy up. I have had a lot of success on elliptical machines with the resistance up to get my cardio in, maybe while alternating curls of light 5 lb weight in each hand. I was active before pregnancy and have had no problems transitioning into fairl intensive upper body weight training and using weight machines at the gym, including ab machines.

The key is number of reps for me instead of weight.

Just do what feels comfortable but slightly comfortable on weight machines and try not to exceed 25 lbs resistance or so when you’re working on your deep core.

My OB GYN says “let pain and fatigue be your guide” and has had women running half marathons at 30+ weeks. I really don’t think it’s necessary to stop jogging lightly or getting your intense cardio on in pregnancy. Stationary bikes are also great. Anything that works the large muscle groups and continues to build and build strong, lean, muscle gradually. Yoga feels amazing as well and is safe for the most part, obviously don’t do splits in a headstand and avoid inversions, it should be common sense: too much protest from joints or muscles=stop.

I don’t get why everyone says you have to start swimming or walking in pregnancy though, such lies. Also, as long as you don’t eat ice cream and cheeseburgers every day, I think it’s okay to eat three slices of pizza every now and then as you normally would indulge. I’m beginning to lose a lot of my appetite as my uterus grows and there is physically less room for food.

I don’t see how it’s possible for you to gain 100 lbs in pregnancy without an almost deliberate intention to do it. But yeah, according to my OBGYN … drink 3L water a day and get your run on. And don’t check the scale every day, it will drive you insane. There are days when I’m 4-6lbs more than two days before and get back down. It is amazing how much water and food you retain or pass from day to day. It blows my mind why anyone would want to gain 100 pounds. Mind. Blown.

      • Mary Mary says:

I walked a lot while I was pregnant. Everyone is different. I walked at least a mile or 2 daily. It made my labor easier. I gained about 30 pounds max. Ate healthy, lots of vegetables low fat milk, and vitamins but totally was constantly craving the Benihana house salad with the ginger dressing. Went to Benihana’s several times just to eat that salad 🙂 The chef wouldn’t give out his secret recipe, but it is now available on the internet 🙂 Yum

      • Matomedah says:

@Annie, I ran in the beginning. When u felt too big, I switched to a stationery bike. Sometimes it’s awkward, but it works. I do 30min/day, every day. I’m also vegetarian but I eat peanut butter, dairy, and other sources of protein like quinoa and beans. I gained 18, 16, and now 20lb respectively for my 3 babies. I get gestational hypertension every time, even though I’ve always been really active/thin/athletic. Just bum genetics for me. So I try really hard to stay as fit as I can to avoid more complications.

  6. HH says:

Much like Kim Kardashian, the altered body is what’s giving her a “comical appearance. Also, I would support her, except her use of the phrase “snap back.” It’s clear she’s in for a rude awakening.

    • Santia says:

Maybe she managing expectations. If she says she WANTS to gain 100 pounds, people won’t go in on her as much? Also, she’ll snap back just fine. Money helps the snap-back and she has money now.

      • HH says:

Unless that money is used on surgery, no matter how hard you work out, you don’t “snap back” from 100 pounds. The managing expectations part is a good point. Maybe she’s being strategic.

      • Santia says:

it’ll be the Kim Kardashian snap-back – at the surgeon’s office every week until she gets to her “goal weight.”

    • qwerty says:

Yeah, after 100 lbs weight gain during pregnancy you snap back… like a deflated balloon.

  7. lizzie says:

when you lie about your weight to begin with you have to set a precedent about how much you will gain during pregnancy. i’m not the weight police – i don’t care how much she weights – i’m 5’3 and 170lbs so I’m not in a position to judge anyone. but the facts with lots of celebs, especially D-listers who need to generate attention, are this: if you say you weigh 100 lbs but you really weight 160 lbs with your giant butt and breast implants you need to set it up like you gained 100 lbs in your pregnancy because at 9 months, she is clearly going to be 200lbs. you see? kim k does the same shit. i’m not saying she looks bad, she doesn’t. but what i’m saying is, when you lie about your starting weight as part of your image – you need to perpetuate it.

  8. mkyarwood says:

Yeah, I couldn’t eat for much of my first pregnancy, so I went for it with the second! 80 lbs by delivery week, lol. But I ate mostly ‘good’ things with a few questionable things thrown in, and it wasn’t hard to lose the weight (within 10 lbs). It just took around 2 years 😉

  9. swak says:

I hope her OB has talked to her about the problems that can occur during pregnancy. Her weight gain is between her and her OB but if she puts it out there for all to see, then she has to expect comments (calling her “fat” is not okay). There is a reason weight gain is moderated and it has nothing to do with being able to “snap back” afterwards. I’m so sick of this trend we have gotten into of how women should be back to their pre-pregnancy weight after a couple months.

  10. Jenba says:

I gained 100 lbs. while pregnant. No gestational diabetes or other health issues to blame, nor did I gorge on junk food or over eat. The weight slowly crept on over the course of my 42 week pregnancy, even while exercising every day and eating nutritional foods, I was shocked each time I stepped on the scale. Fortunately I have always been super healthy, tall, carry weight very well, & gave birth to a healthy 9 lb baby girl. At 10 months postpartum I’ve lost 60 of it by eating clean & walking everyday with my daughter in the stroller. I’m very pleased with my post baby body. With all that being said, to have anyone actively WANTING to gain that high amount of weight while pregnant makes me raise my eyebrows big time. Good luck with that Blac!

    • swak says:

Congrats on loosing the weight in a healthy way!

    • sunnydaze says:

I REALLY REALLY needed to see this today! I’m about 26 weeks and up about 30lbs – very little bad food (some cherry ice cream here and there) but this pregnancy has been MISERABLE and I’m in constant pain – too much to even do prenatal yoga, and breathing difficulties make even taking walks too daunting. So naturally I’m terrified of what is to come between now and October when this kiddo pops out. I’m so uncomfortable (even right now) I just want to cry most of the time, and it’s my first so I’m stressing about what my husband thinks of me, all that stuff….and now I’m rambling. Anyway, thank you for writing that, it gave me a bit of hope that even if the weight does continue to pack on Perhaps I won’t have to live at the gym and mortgage my house for a personal trainer.

      • Mary Mary says:

Sunny: Stroller walking the baby to the mall, to stores, getting out and about with the baby for fresh air. I used to take the baby for daily long walks in the carriage or as she got older the stroller. Fresh air and walking. Also, lifting and carrying the child she was a healthy 8 pounds and 21″ inches so, it was a bit like weight lifting, and as she grew by the months heavier to carry but all the exercise in taking care of the baby, movement, etc. Took me about a year to lose the 30 pound weight gain and get back to wearing slim skirts again. Don’t get discouraged at all. Enjoy the pregnancy and good food 🙂

  11. Trixie says:

Lol at her thinking she’s going to “snap back” after gaining 100 pounds.

    • Jenba says:

Yeah there is no ‘snap back’ , you’ve gotta be mindful about what you put in your body and work your ass off. Or in her case, most likely, surgerical and cosmetic help.

    • Heather says:

She’s going to go to Kim’s surgeon to try and “snap back”.

  12. Jwoolman says:

This is her second pregnancy, so she knows what to expect. She certainly looks much more comfortable than her future sister-in-law Kim K. I doubt she would do anything that would be harmful to the baby. She’s more likely just playing with us.

    • Wren says:

Exactly. And it’s working quite a treat.

I do love seeing her in sensible shoes and clothes that don’t look like she has to heave herself out of the second the cameras are off.

  13. Micki says:

    Absolutely idiotic statement.
Try to eat healthy and whatever you gain, you’ll gain it. God knows how much from it will be retained water. From the look of her calves- a lot.
I had both my children in high summer and although I wore dresses and maxi skirts very often they were nowhere as tight as hers. I can only imagine the marks on her skin.
And I practical question: how does she pee? Does she peel the dress up or she wears a diaper?

    • PrincessMe says:

Well if she can’t get the dress over her hips, she should be able to pull it up to pee. It’s probably really stretchy knit – it would have to be.

  14. Cupcake says:

Obviously angling for a weight loss contract! I think she’s a very business savvy woman. I believe her pregnancy was at motivated (at least partially) to gain her piece of the Kardashian empire.

  15. Isa says:

Meat, eggs, and vegetables? She’s gonna need more slutty brownies for that goal.
I didn’t want to gain much weight because of stretch marks. Although I guess they all just get them lasered off now.
Plus, it can be really freaking hard to lose the baby weight. I’ve been working on losing it for the past year and I only gained 23 lbs with my last.

  16. HeyThere! says:

Never call a pregnant lady fat and absolutely never call a mom who has had a baby recently fat. Why are others so focused on a new moms weight???? Obviously I’m a new mom. Lol. There is no time to workout. I can hardly eat a bowl of cereal before 4pm!!!! Ugh. Why does everyone care so much. BTW she looks beautiful.

  17. Tessa says:

Na, I think it’s shAde at Kim’s ‘wow is me I hate being pregnant, look
At me I’m so sexy but miserable’ act

Rather have a tubby chyna any day. And am I the only one who thinks she is pretty? I think she is very beautiful apart from the bum of course

  18. Roller74 says:

She can gain all of the weight she wants, but at 5 feet 0 inches tall, she better be prepared for the side effects that come with massive weight gain in a short amount of time (diabetes, blood clots, lower leg edema, increased blood pressure etc.).

She should wear bare face more often. Her skin is amazing and all of that heavy makeup really ages her.

  19. Betsy says:

Increasing one’s predisposition to develop gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, plus weight multiplies the aches and pains of pregnancy. Oh my god, just dumb.

  20. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Jesus. She’d be so uncomfortable carrying all that extra weight. That symphysis pubis pain late in pregnancy when walking would be so much worse with extra weight- and gestational diabetes is a real risk, as is pre-eclampsia- both risk the health of mom and baby. She really ought to have a long talk with her OB.

I stopped getting on the scale when i hit 70 pound gain with twins. After about a year, I was still 15# over my pre-baby weight with my first prior to twins. I was in my mid 30s by the time the twins were born, it never completely left me- never got back to the mid 120s at 5’5 1/2″. Maybe for younger women the weight loss is easier. by the time I had 3 under 3 at 35, even with that stress and schedule, I couldn’t shed it all, but I guess she’d have access to a chef and trainer and child care.

  21. shewolf says:

Hahahaha! Sounds like someone whose never been pregnant before. That extra 100 lbs with an 8 lb fetus in your gut won’t feel like such a good idea in another month. Good luck sleeping in anything but a seated position honey!

  22. Kat says:

I can imagine saying the same thing if I got annoyed enough at people going on at me.

THE WORLD: Kate, you’re too fat and you’re going to get fatter!
ME: Hope I do. What are you going to say about that? All part of the plan, Mr. N. Parker…

It’s very easy to make remarks about other people but to expect not to get their backs up and basically tell you to go to hell with your concern trolling is asking too much. Nobody wants to gain 100lbs. The only person who has a right to mention your weight during pregnancy is your medical advisor. It’s between Blac and her doctor.

  23. Pandy says:

She won’t score a weight loss contract. Nobody knows her really. And yes I have to agree with a few posters. The fake butts look
Monstrous when combined with a pregnancy.

  24. MiniMii says:

Her comments are idiotic and utterly irresponsible – both in terms of her own health and the message she is sending out to fans.

Gaining excessive weight during pregnancy not only puts the mother’s health at risk (gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, plus the stress on joints and then the stress of losing that weight after the pregnancy), it also puts the baby’s health – now and in the future – at risk. There have been studies showing that overweight or obese mothers put their children at risk for their own weight problems, along with an increased risk that the child will develop Type II diabetes in the future.

While it’s no big surprise to hear this level of stupid coming from the Kardashian clan, the fact that she is putting her own priorities above that of her developing fetus is disgusting.

  25. Capepopsie says:

I do think she is going to regret not
Thinking about her weight, once her
    Baby is born.

    I know I did.

  26. khaveman says:

Um…..diabetes? Heart stress? Joint stress? High blood pressure?

  27. Char says:

I feel like most commenters are forgetting this is her second child? If she didn’t gain 100lbs the first time, she most likely won’t won’t this time. Plus the “bad food” they listed isn’t bad at all. If she was indulging in Cheetos, grape soda, & ho ho’s, I’d say she might gain too much weight, but not from what is listed in the article. I’m assuming her comment was either for attention or a sarcastic response to those who are already calling her fat.

    • Betsy says:

I had never heard of her prior to her dating this guy, so I didn’t know she had a child already.

  28. Veronica says:

I know this is crazy, but I feel like we can safely assume the “100 pounds” was probably hyperbolic and intended as a middle finger to people who criticize pregnancy weight gain. In the blue dress, she looks more or less what I’d expect for frame and gestation period.

  29. cheryl says:

As an anesthesiologist I can tell you, it is much more difficult to place an epidural or a spinal on really large pregnant woman. Often harder to place IVs as well. Obese pregnant women are much more likely to have airway issues, (aspiration, difficult intubations) if they need to have a general anesthetic for their c-sections, because I can’t get the spinal in, because their BMI is over 50 or 60… She’s an imbecile.

  30. Angel says:

Preeclampsia and gestational diabetes come to mind?

  31. Sport says:

    Still smaller than Kim.

  32. MrMagic says:

Somebody get Mrs. Kardashian CHAIR PLEASE!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHHA

  33. Whitney says:

I’m creeped out by the contrast between her face and her hairline in the header pic. It’s like someone superimposed her face on a different body, or the foundation she’s using is a few shades lighter than her skin tone.

  34. Barbara says:

What woman would want to gain 100 lbs. I think she says things for drama. Her doctor surely advised her the expected amount.

  35. Etois says:

She’s an idiot. Gestational diabetes?? Kind of a big deal. It’s completely unhealthy for a child to be born to an obese mother for a whole host of reasons I’m not going to get into on this website’s message board. I’m in healthcare and this is a stupid, wrong mentality. Totally uneducated and if she had any desire to do some reading on modern pregnancy and childbirth she would know better.

  36. jferber says:

I think she’s an incredibly beautiful woman. She is stunning. I, too, feel that her 100 pound weight gain comment is just trolling the trolls. I get that she wants to enjoy her pregnancy. I did, too. It is a time when that constant steely vigilance about weight and food so many women have can finally be relaxed. She has probably been watching her weight her whole life, like me. During my pregnancy, if I felt like eating at McDonald’s, then I did. I’m sure she’s getting regular medical appointments and following her doctor’s advice. I’m so happy for her that she is at a good place in her life.

When she said she wanted to gain 100 lbs I immediately thought “that’s unsafe”. But after a few seconds I wonder if she just said that in case she carries “heavier” or would get more criticism for her body size, she wanted to put out there that she’s not holding back with food so her changing body size can be her excuse? I felt like I was super big when i was pregnant but my doctor said I should be bigger so I felt pressure to eat more than I needed. Size is always such a sensitive topic. Regardless I’m not a lover of blac. It’s like I don’t like reading about her but I can’t help but to read it !

Ignorant, self serving, child endangerment, ALL forms of diabetes, infant/child obesity, asthma, kidney, thyroid, heart, circulation, growth hormones, immediate family history of father with diabetes, etc., etc., etc. Not enough potential risk? A mother does Not have the right to endanger the growing fetus.

I’m a NICU nurse and her comments make me cringe! We get babies all the time with gestational diabetes complications and it seems like a lot of the moms just didn’t understand that it can harm their babies – it’s not just a how easy can your body ‘snap back’. I shudder to think of women who hear her cavalier attitude and are inclined to do likewise.

Seriously though: are they very poorly educated women? Basic pregnancy reading says one of the biggest worries about GD (after possible birth complications) is blood sugar problems in the baby.

Although one of my favorite pregnancy memories was sitting, nauseated, after my three hour GD test, just worried as all get out that after all that exercise and good diet I might have GD, two women sat down next to me, drinking a big gulp size of fruit punch and eating the randomest snack foods like twinkies and doritos. Guess they had passed. 😉
