2016 Emmy nominations: who got recognized & who got snubbed?

GOT1

As previewed yesterday, the 2016 Emmy nominations were finally announced this morning in LA. It feels like people were especially excited about this year’s nominations, likely because there’s always the hope that the Emmy voters might begin to phase in some new shows and new people. And it seems like every year, we’re disappointed with the same old people and same old shows. Is it the same this year? Here are the major nominations, and you can see the full list here at the Emmys main site. This year’s Emmys telecast will be on September 18th on ABC.

[From Emmys.com]

Those are the big ones, but you can see the supporting actor noms in Comedy here. I was really worried that Game of Thrones got snubbed in all of the acting categories, but NO! GoT actors flooded the supporting categories which… I agree with that. Dinklage didn’t need another nomination, but he is one of the best actors on the series, so be it. I LOVE that Kit Harington got nominated (SadFace might even win!), and I love that Maisie Williams, Lena Headey and yes, even Emilia Clarke got recognized.

I know many of you will love that The Americans finally got some major love, as did Mr. Robot and Master of None. I’m not shocked that Downton Abbey got some noms (even though the last season was all over the place), and I’m not shocked that The Night Manager got some love too – it was a really well-done miniseries. And look, Tom Hiddleston got his first Emmy nomination! The Tiddlesbanging was all worth it, people!

RAMI MALEK AND MR ROBOT!! 😀

Also excited for Master of None and Aziz and Ellie Kemper and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

I need to start watching Blackish.

    • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Love Rami & Mr. Robot! Addictive

    • pru says:

King Rami on the rise – FINALLY!! Love that Sam Esmail is getting much deserved recognition too.

Emmy time always increases my Must -Watch list. So much to see before 9/18.

    • Cee says:

Blackish is awesome! It’s my favourite comedy atm

    • lucy2 says:

I too was so thrilled for Master of None and Kimmy Schmidt, and also for the Americans finally getting recognized!
I don’t watch Blackish regularly, but any time I’ve seen it, I’ve liked it. Tracee is great and the kids are funny without being annoying.

    • delorb says:

Black-ish is hilarious. Their nominations are well deserved. I wish they’d shown some love for Jenifer Lewis. She’s great.

    • Margo S. says:

I know!! Rami is incredible in Mr robot. Can’t wait for season 2!!!

  2. Tiffany says:

YAY on Black-ish. I know the category is stacked but congrats to the show, Anthony and Tracee.

    • Juliette says:

Love Blackish, one of the better shows imho. Ruby, the MIL has some of the funniest lines. Her snark is just awesome.

      • Mimz, says:

I LOVE Black-ish, I was actually watching an old episode just now and I fully agree, Jenifer lewis always has me in tears, she’s AMAZING. I’m super happy for the noms. I hope the kids get some too. I’m so happy!!!

    • Carol says:

Its really the only TV show that I watch from a major network. Glad it got a couple nods.

    • delorb says:

I wish they’d win too, but as you say, there is very little chance of that. Its a brilliant show, IMO.

      • Juliette says:

And the episode where they talked about police brutality was so beautifully written and well acted. It’s one that will stay with me for sure.

    • Pinky says:

Very glad for them. One of the few consistently funny shows.

      –TheRealPinky

  3. Trixie says:

I hope Tom and Taylor are still together come September 18 and that Tom brings Taylor as his Emmy date.

    • Frexit says:

He won’t. She sucks up too much attention. Hopefully now that everyone is turning on her because she got caught trying to shove her ex under the bus she’ll give us a break and go away for a while

    • Mia4s says:

Sadly I think we will be denied the embarrassm…I mean entertainment. He will likely still be filming Thor and given that he’s in no way a favourite to win, I doubt he will go.

      • Miss M says:

Are you kidding me? Tom Hiddleston will not go? Tom Hiddleston?! I wil be shocked(!) if he does not show up there TS or no TS.

      • Naya says:

This nom one of the short term objectives behind the conscious coupling so Tom will milk every last drop out of this moment. Trust. He will campaign for it like it was a best picture Oscar and then show up on the day, orange and grinning ear to ear.

      • Maire3 says:

He’s probably angling to be a presenter.

      • K.C. says:

THE EMMYS?!? There is no way in the world Tom is missing the Emmys. That boy loves himself an award show. And even if he’s unlikely to win himself, he co-produced the show. He is so there. Probably already has his tux picked out.

I doubt his nom had anything to do with his love life. Those voters don’t care.

Great selection of nominees this year. I’m happily surprised by several nominations.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

He will go, and he will pump this for everything he can get. Tay tay will be on his arm for maximum exposure.

And no, his love life has no effect on this nomination.

        Start popping the popcorn…..

      • koko says:

He’ll be there, even if he has to row a boat with her sunbathing on the other side from Oz to Hollywood.
I would guess his filming will be done or they will give him a break to attend.

      • delorb says:

        @K.C.

I don’t know about that. A lot of these nominations are lazy and based partly on how familiar the nominating committees are with the names. We’ll probably never know. But we do know that it didn’t hurt!

      • Mira says:

“He will campaign for it like it was a best picture Oscar and then show up on the day, orange and grinning ear to ear.” Hahaha!

      • amunet ma'at says:

@Naya bringing the funny. Oh no you didn’t say “orange and grinning ear to ear” lol.

    • Luca76 says:

Of course they will go. Taylor Swift isn’t missing the Emmys. Anyway I keep hearing different rumors about the length of Hiddleston’s stay. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s long done by September.

    • WhatTheHell? says:

Not only will TIDDLES be there sucking up the attention, she will be showing off the rock on her finger.

No way in hell are those two thirsty kids gonna miss the big show. The Emmy nod was just one of the early objectives of generating publicity for their hookup, along with distracting from Kimye & sticking it to Calvin.

      • this_dis says:

Tom’s part in TNM has been having Emmy buzz for months. Also, TNM itself got 11 other nominations. I doubt that all hangs on the latest events.

      • saltandpepper says:

A month ago I would have defended Hiddles but now that the real Tom has finally emerged as the most thirsty man on earth, she’ll go with him, flaunting her rock while he flaunts her. Well played Hiddles. After the initial shock wore off that she was interested in him, I bet you he’s been in control ever since. And will be and Taylor being Taylor will gladly play with. Let the games continue and continue and continue… ad infinitum. Ad nauseam.

      • lilacflowers says:

Emmy voters do not care about such things. Neither do Oscar voters despite so many people insisting that they do.

    • Colette says:

They will be married by September 😉

    • Pinky says:

Are you kidding? She will be dragging HIM to the Emmys, kicking and screaming, kissing and sucking.

      –TheRealPinky

  4. Lilacflowers says:

Happy for Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman. That’s actually a double nomination for both Hugh and Tom Hiddleston because they were producers as well. Sad for Tom Hollander because his Corky was the best part of the series, after Olivia asking Hugh if he was discombobulated and Tobias Menzies’s face when he couldn’t answer the phone

    • Guesto says:

Agree, Lilac. Hollander’s Corky was pure laugh-out-loud delight and one of the few things that kept me watching TNM.

    • Gingerly says:

I am sad for Hollander, too.

    • CornyBlue says:

I am so ready for Olivia Coleman to become bigger than she is. Genuinely one of the most talented actresses today.

      • Bex says:

Olivia Colman is revered in the UK. Genuinely can’t think of another actress that is so well liked by the general public aside from Dames Maggie and Judi- probably precisely because she isn’t bigger in film so the press haven’t had a chance to accuse her of ‘losing her roots’ or ‘going Hollywood’ yet. She stole the show in The Lobster so I hope all this leads to big things 🙂

      • Lucy says:

I met her not long ago, she’s lovely. She’s exactly like your mate’s mum who’s a bit awkward but wants everyone to have a good time.

      • Bonzo says:

It would have been nice to see Olivia’s work recognized. She was the best thing about TNM.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Bonzo, Olivia is nominated for TNM in the supporting category

      • bonzo says:

        Ahh… just saw that. Yea!!

    • TeamAwesome says:

Have you seen Rev, the series where Tom Hollander plays an inner city vicar and Olivia Coleman is his wife? So good.

    • this_dis says:

Hollander was alright, but I still much preferred Olivia Colman’s work.

  5. Mia4s says:

Hiddleston embarrasses himself and Cumberbatch and Elba get nominated without lifting a finger in PR. AHAHAHAHAHA! That said it’s BULL that Hiddleston and Cumberbatch are in there over Oscar Isaac in Show Me a Hero. It’s actually embarrassing. Oh well, they’re all going to lose to Bryan Cranston anyway! 😉

Thrilled to see The Americans finally recognized!

    • Luca76 says:

Really think he would have been nominated regardless. Old rich dudes, LOVED that miniseries. One of my clients couldn’t stop raving about this (right before Hiddleswift broke). That’s the demo of that voted for it.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Sadly, Show Me a Hero came and went very quietly although Oscar was fantastic in it. Cumberbatch doesn’t belong, that Sherlock thing was awful and he wasn’t good in it but the Emmys like to hang onto things for way too long, hence Modern Family. I agree Cranston will probably win, as he should

      • M.A.F. says:

        Modern Family needs to go.

      • Roxane says:

        @Li Cumberbatch’s nomination is a mystery, he didn’t even tried …

      • Bee says:

When I read it I assumed Cumberbatch was nominated for The Hollow Crown or something else I missed. Utterly perplexed how he got a nom for that latest Sherlock episode, because it was truly awful. Everything about that “special” was bad, including Cumberbatch’s acting, which in my opinion, he phoned in.

      • lilacflowers says:

@Bee, Cumberbatch’s version of The Hollow Crown hasn’t aired in the US yet so it can’t be considered until next year.

      • peridot says:

Show Me A Hero deserves a nom at least. Oscar Isaacs & Catherine Keener were fantastic!

    • Maire3 says:

Yeah, I was rooting for Oscar as well. His performance was heartbreaking at the end.

No doubt this will add more horsepower to the stage-coached romance touring the globe.
      This seems appropriate

    • Maire3 says:

@Lilac. I missed your comment. Great point: old rich dudes love le Carré.

I’m a long time fan of both David Simon & Oscar Isaac. This is well worth a read
      http://davidsimon.com/whats-my-line/

    • CornyBlue says:

But Night Manager is genuinely good whereas the new Sherlock was so average at best.

      • Mia4s says:

That is part of why it was so funny! Cumberbatch is already an Emmy winner, didn’t lift a finger, and still gets nominated! Elba too, although I cannot recall if he has already won. Hiddleston comes across as such a lame try hard compared to the other men in his category. He’s currently giving full interviews to the Trade papers about his nomination rather than just releasing a statement of thanks like 99% of the others. The thirst!! So so lame.

      • lilacflowers says:

Cumberbatch was nominated because he won last year. The Emmys tend to repeat themselves.

    • Pinky says:

      Courtney B. Vance. Hands down.

      –TheRealPinky

  6. Roxane says:

WHERE IS OSCAR ISAAC, for Show me a hero. Where ??!!

    • Hecate says:

I thought Anthony Mackie deserved a supporting nod for All The Way, too.

    • Maire3 says:

The Emmys rarely show any love for David Simon’s stuff. The Wire was tragically overlooked year after year. Some amazing performances on Treme, too.

I was pleasantly shocked Isaac got the Golden Globe earlier this year.

  7. Jenns says:

I need to start watching The Americans. I watched season one, which was fine, but it didn’t grab me. I hear it gets much better though.

    • Aulty says:

It did and I would highly recommend a good The Americans-binge – unlike some other shows, this one is actually great for binge-watching, but you have to pay attention – with all the Russian dialogs its easy to miss parts of the plot.

    • Esmom says:

I’ve tried several times and it doesn’t grab me either. I can never get past Matthew Rhys — I am always so aware that he’s “acting.” Which is weird because I loved him on Brothers and Sisters. I feel like the show has everything I would love, so I don’t know what the problem is. I’ll have to give it another try.

  8. Luca76 says:

Hahaha I usually don’t pay attention to the Emmys but these are good choices. And yes I’m excited about the prospect of Hiddleswift’s first red carpet to start off fall. LOVE it!!!

  9. Sue says:

So Tiddlesbanging until red carpet, right? Oh god…

  10. CK says:

I’m happy about the love for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Confirmation, GoT (I probably would swap Emilia Clarke for Sophie Turner), The People vs. OJ, and Black-ish getting some love. I’m also happy that star power and name recognition didn’t drag that shaky season of AHS or it’s shaky lead, Lady Gaga into the nominations.

    • Miss M says:

@CK: i would swap Emilia for Sophie Turner too. I wonder if Tatiana Maslany will win this year.

      • Naya says:

Tatiana better win or I will write a strong worded letter to the organizers.

      • Kaye says:

I agree with you, Miss M. I think ST was amazing this year.

      • maria 2 says:

agreed. Emilia didn’t derserve it. One facial expression and almost only one line. “Mother of dragons!”

      • Miss M says:

@Naya: she does deserve to win!
@Kaye@Maria: Sophie has done a great job, especially last season. But the Emmy’s took 2 seasons to notice Tatiana. Maybe Sophie’s work will get an acknowledgment next year.

      • Eve says:

Tatiana really deserves to win, especially since the show only has one more season to go and she’s been doing such great work for the past 4 seasons.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I am so happy about Tatiana Maslany!!!!!! Yay, Seestra!

      • Steph says:

I hope Tatiana finally wins! She is amazing! I bet the b!tch that plays Rachel is crazy jealous.

    • CornyBlue says:

I am so happy Gaga did not get nominated. Her winning that globe over Kiki is still so odd

  11. pikawho? says:

Yay for The Americans! Last season was amazing and I hope they win! Its one of the most underrated but consistently amazing shows on television.

And a loud “f–k off!” to Hiddleston being nominated when his part was so boring and predictable. Hugh Laurie outshone him in every scene, even when it bordered on panto. Thank god the other actors in the category had stronger performances so that his chances of actually winning are low.

    • Susannah says:

I’m so excited for The Americans nominations too! Finally they’re being recognized for their great writing and acting. I wish more people would watch this show, it’s so good!

      • pikawho? says:

I think a lot of people get turned off by its slow pace and the fact that the main characters are “villains”. A lot of Americans who grew up in that era basically believed that russian spies were pure, cartoonishly evil and feel uncomfortable about the prospect of relating to or having sympathy for even a fictional one. I have recommended it to people and they either say its boring or think its communist propaganda in disguise (wtf?)

      • lucy2 says:

I wish more would watch it too, but at the same time, I’m not at all surprised. The general public’s taste in TV shows often leaves me scratching my head in confusion.
It’s so well done, especially the lead characters as villains you still root for aspect. I think it’s a great character exploration.

    • Pinky says:

Yes. Hiddlestunted sucked. Laurie was much better. And Vance FTW!

      –TheRealPinky

    • Taxi says:

I did grow up in that era & The Americans is one of my favorite shows. The teen-age daughter has become less annoying as a 1 facial-expression actor in the recent season & Keri, Matthew, and the supporting cast are excellent. It’s not a show you “get” watching 1 or 2 isolated episodes.

      • Tiffany says:

Holly Taylor did bring it this year. The season finale when she went after Matthew ( if she only knew her parents trangressions), the apple did not fall far from the tree.

    • bonzo says:

I thought Hiddles was the weakest performance of the TNM cast. So wooden. Clearly the voters didn’t, but it doesn’t mean they’re right.

  12. KB says:

I was pulling for Christian Slater. Did Kit Harrington deserve that nomination? I haven’t seen the last two seasons of Game of Thrones.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Yes. He really stepped up this season.

    • Kelly says:

I thought Harrington really deserved a nomination last year as well. He’s always been a good actor – he originated the role of Albert in War Horse in London nearly 10 years ago. He may have appeared to be too old for the film, especially working opposite Cumberbatch and Hiddleston, and been busy with GoT at the time it was shot.

I didn’t think Maisie Williams should have been nominated. She did better work in earlier seasons opposite Charles Dance (Tywin) and Rory McCann (The Hound). Sophie Turner should have gotten in instead, but the inconsistent writing for Sansa may have hurt her.

      • SKF says:

Kit was fantastic this season. I adore Dinklage but they gave him almost nothing to work with this season, he shouldn’t have gotten a nom. Maisie’s season also wasn’t great. I think it should have just been Kit and Lena and maybe Liam because Davos was wonderful this season too.

      • lilacflowers says:

It would be interesting to know which episodes they submitted for Sophie and Maisie. Sophie was absolutely chilling in Battle of the Bastards.

      • jammypants says:

The Greyjoy siblings and Ramsay were also phenomenal. Wish they got some recognition.

    • Intro Outro says:

Agreed with others, Harington has earned this nom. Didn’t really pay much attention to him prior to this season, although I thought he was pretty much in his element and nothing was jarring in his acting, but he has done some great and nuanced job on Jon this time around.

  13. Sixer says:

Yay Americans! And I finally get to see the first series of Mr Robot next week.

  14. Crox says:

I like that the GoT actors and actresses got recognised, I don’t like that they are competing against each other.

  15. lexx says:

It’s like the emmy people don’t actually watch tv. Jurnee Bell and Aldis Hodge killed it in Underground this year.

    • Robino! says:

YES!!!! And Amirah Vann. And so so SO many others…not even a nod??? This was a fantastic show with an amazing cast. Where’s the love???

  16. EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

In addition to all the TNM nominations, I’m very excited about the noms for The Americans, the GOT actors, Kirsten Dunst, and Thomas Middleditch.

    • EnnuiAreTheChampions says:

Oh, and I didn’t even see the Fargo supporting noms — yay for Bokeem Woodbine, Jesse Plemons, and Jean Smart, especially Woodbine and Smart!

Gah, I need a new season of Fargo right now. I really think it’s one of the best shows on TV.

      • lucy2 says:

It’s definitely one of the best. Thrilled for Woodbine, he had amazing presence on screen in that role.

  17. grabbyhands says:

Rarely has a nomination been least deserved as the nods for The Abominable Bride, which was one of the worst Sherlock offerings aired, which is saying something considering what a train wreck season 3 was.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Yep I am surprised I thought it was complete dreck to be honest, as for series one and two it seems to run to one bad, one so-so and one good episode every series. Season three was cobbled together from bad fan fiction on tumblr.

    • Aulty says:

With Sherlock it was the story that was so so bad. The nom for best TV movie? – not deserved, but then it probably won’t win anyway. Neither (imho) will Cumberbatch but, the acting, was decent – and I can see why he did get a nod.

      • lilacflowers says:

He got a nod because the Emmys tend to nominate the same people and shows over and over, even when past their prime (See: Modern Family & Downton Abby) and he won last year so they’ll keep nominating him for a while. Oscar Issac should have had that slot.

    • Bee says:

If there was a category for Best Show Completely Ruined, Sherlock would be a lock.

    • Intro Outro says:

I didn’t think it was THAT awful tbh, at least I wasn’t bored when I watched it lol, but yeah, I also thought that there’s nothing in TAB that would deserve this nomination.

  18. Spencer says:

Happy for the Americans! Finally! Kind of wished for penny dreadful and Eva green… Shocked on Cumberbatch that my least favorite of his roles.

    • Em says:

Eva Green is so overdue for an Emmy award for her work in Penny Dreadful. She blows the rest of them out of the water. Yet once again, she gets totally snubbed. Not even a nomination? Really??? I am going to sorely miss her in that role.

  19. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Yay Jon Snow!!!!! I love you. Yay Tyrion, Cersei, Arya & Dany! I’m sad Sir Davos didn’t get a nod though too. Go Game of Thrones! What do a select few say?

    HODOR!
    Wun Wun!
    Someone else!

  20. M.A.F. says:

Why is Outstanding TV Movie/Limited series listed twice? It should read Outstanding TV Movie followed by Outstanding Limited Series.

  21. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Excited for some new names on the nom list! Not so excited about some old repeats.!

  22. hogtowngooner says:

I think I’m the only person who hated Kimmy Schmidt lol. Granted, I only made it through 3 or 4 episodes so maybe it got better, but I couldn’t keep going.

Looks like a good bath of nominees, though. The Emmys seem to be getting a bit more generous with what shows they shower with noms lol.

    • pru says:

Re; Kimmy Schmidt – you are not alone!! I couldn’t get thru the first season.

    • kiddo says:

Yeah me too, i thought i give it a try i watched the entire first season, but nope wont come back for season 2, It never got me hooked

    • Aulty says:

Me neither – but then, I wasn’t all that keen on 30 Rocks either.

    • CornyBlue says:

I did not like it much either. It has one or two good jokes but thats it. Ki Hong Lee is so cute tho. Made it worthwhile.

    • Esmom says:

I couldn’t get into Kimmy Schmidt either. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn’t.

    • Erinn says:

I really liked the first season… because it was kind of like 30 Rock in the silliness. But… I’ve watched like one or two from s02 and just haven’t bothered watching more. Tituss really is the star of that show though.

    • delorb says:

I’m sure you’re not alone, just as I’m not alone in really liking Sherlock, while most people here hated it. I think 30 Rock was one of the best TV shows in like forever. Its right up there with MASH, All in the Family, I Love Lucy, etc. IMO, Kimmy is building on that and quite nicely. I can pull up a 30 Rock episode and laugh, even though I know where the jokes are. It hasn’t gotten old yet. Whereas, Friends is kind of a slog for me now. Happy for both Kimmy and Sherlock.

  23. Felice. says:

Beyonce got 4 nominations for Lemonade.

  24. Josie says:

Good for Sr Thomas Swift. Hopefully him and swifty can chill with the ridic PR campaign.

  25. Bex says:

Yes to Olivia Colman! I’m a huge fan and thought she’d get overlooked. Think Eva Green should’ve got a nomination too, but this looks like a pretty good list 🙂

  26. Insomniac says:

Woohoo for Bokeem Woodbine and Kirsten Dunst!

  27. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I’m pleased to say that I actually watch every show listed for Best Drama. That’s prob a first.

Btw, I just binged both seasons of Bloodline last weekend & I recommend it. I cannot get it out of my head. It really makes you think. You simultaneously hate & care about characters. I can’t wait to see what they pull in Season 3.

I obsess over no other show more than I do GoT though. So many emotional moments this season 😢😢😢

    • Esmom says:

Yes, another Bloodline watcher, I have been looking for one! I loved it too and it has also really stuck with me. I’m happy to see Ben Mendelssohn nominated. The whole cast is really, really good. I think Kyle Chandler’s performance was pretty awards worthy, but it is a crowded field so I’m glad a him went to Ben. He was mesmerizing.

    • Guesto says:

Bloodline was addictively fascinating! Tootling around Netflix and knowing nothing about Bloodline, I idly clicked on it, based on nothing other than a Netflix ‘you watched this so you might like this’ recommendation and ended up watching 5 eps from season 1 in one go. And then binge-watched it to the end.

It’s exactly as you say, so love-hate, so brilliantly drawn, such complex characters who, as the story unfolds, draw you into their very complicated individual childhood histories and equally complicated but entirely related adult dilemmas.

Beautifully spare writing, sublime casting, gorgeous backdrop, can’t wait for Season 3.

    • lucy2 says:

It’s on my list, just haven’t had time. Love the cast though.

    • Bonzo says:

I was thrilled to see Kyle Chandler get a nom. I’ve loved him since FNL.

    • Esmom says:

Bonzo, Oh wow, I missed Kyle’s name in that category, awesome! I never watched FNL but I think he’s brilliant. Not to mention easy on the eyes, I love his smile.

Guesto, I stumbled into it the exact same way. Agree on all your points. And I felt really quite empty when it was over, lol. I’m sad it will be months and months until the next season. Sigh.

      • Mira says:

I am liked Bloodline a lot but i am surprised they left out Narcos which i think is just as good if not better.
I am also really happy Aziz got a nomination.

  28. Brittney B. says:

    TATIANA!!!!! AZIZ!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, TV is SO much more advanced than film right now. It’s not perfect, but the representation is light-years ahead. I’m so glad there’s so much love for shows that focus on women and people of color.

  29. Lucy says:

Yay GOT!!! Well deserved nominations all around. I’m just bummed Iwan Rheon (Ramsay) was so unfairly snubbed in the Supporting Actor Category. Oh well!! Maybe on future projects.

  30. Caitiecait says:

Courtney B Vance should prepare for that speech because there is almost no way that he loses.

    • lucy2 says:

He was really incredible, I agree there’s no way he’s losing. Sarah Paulson too. That whole cast was great.

    • Dara says:

Yeah, I love Tom but if Vance doesn’t win I will be very, very grumpy.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      He was amazing!

…But HOW IN THE HECK did Cuba get nominated??!?! He was so incredibly terrible awful horrible.

      • Salanta says:

I wish Sterling would have been nominated, I found him even more impressive.
        Really happy about Sarah though!

      • Pinky says:

@Salanta Sterling was nominated in the supporting category.

And Vance was everything in that show!

        –TheRealPinky

      • Taxi says:

Agree. Cuba was the only one who had no resemblance to his character. OJ was charismatic & handsome, with an athletic build & broad appeal at the time. Cuba?? No, bad casting. His acting, imo, was basic scenery-chewing.

    • bonzo says:

I agree. Vance is the strongest contender.

  31. H says:

The Emmy Reel tapes go out in March/April to members for review and voting. I used to have a friend who was eligible to vote and he used to give me all his old tapes after he was done with them.

While I think Tiddles is hysterical, Tom got this nomination all on his own merits.

    • Gingerly says:

That’s what Gold Derby said. As voting ended before Tiddles event, it wouldn’t affect the nominations in any ways. And Hiddles’ Emmy roundtable interviews were one of the least passionate he had ever done. He was almost quiet.

      • Crox says:

Actually, voting was between June 13 and 27, so Tiddles already began, but it was before the tanktopgate.

I still think the voters didn’t care about that whole affair either way. TNM and actors were nominated because they deserve it. What’s the Emmy voters demographic like, anyway? If it’s similar to the Oscars, these really aren’t people who would read Taylor Swift news.

  32. KJ says:

So happy for the Mr. Robot noms (especially Rami Malek), Constance Zimmer getting nominated for UNReal, Courtney B. Vance, and the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and GoT noms. Also, I’m thrilled that Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan got a writing nomination for “Catastrophe.” I love that show so much.

Also, this reminds me that I’ve been meaning to start watching The Americans forever, and now I need to get on that!

  33. CornyBlue says:

    TATIANA MASLANY ????? YES!!!!!!
Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington ?? What for ?? Also why no Emmy Rossum ????

  34. TeamAwesome says:

When you look at the list of who played what under each acting category, I love that Tatiana’s says “Tatiana Maslany as Sarah, Alison, Cosima, Helena, Rachel, M.K., Krystal”.
I would so very much love to see her win, especially since Orphan Black will only have one more season!

    • CornyBlue says:

She deserves it so so much.

    • Samtha says:

She’s given far and away the best performance for the past few seasons. I’m so happy to see her finally recognized!

    • lucy2 says:

I haven’t watched this season yet, but she’s deserved it since the first episode. I’m always in awe how easily I believe they are all different people.

    • Bee says:

Tatiana has never missed a beat over all four series. Every one of those characters is an individual in my eyes. She deserves the recognition, and a win.

My only complaint? Not enough Helena on the latest series.

  35. kiddo says:

Yay for all the GOT actress flooded suporting categories, but where is caitriona balfe and eva green in leading role categories, they both gave stellar performance this season. God knows Claire Danes doesnt need another nomination, i had enough with her crying face

    • Lilacflowers says:

*waves at Kiddo and tosses her a box of Cheese-it’s!*

    • M.A.F. says:

I watch Outlander (still have not seen the season finale) but there are times when I am not impressed with Balfe’s acting. Same with Sam Heughan.

      • tracking says:

I agree, they can both be pretty bad and flat. But sometimes Balfe really pulls it out though, like in the “Faith” episode. That would have been a strong submission.

And, kiddo, yes, UGH on Danes!!

  36. Sarah says:

I’m excited for Lily Tomlin – she is just hilarious in Frank and Gracie! Or Gracie and Frankie, I can never remember. 🙂 And Jane Fonda’s daughter, the one with the shorter hair, got great critical reviews so I surprised no nomination for her. She is terrific!!

I tried The Americans, and hated it. And I never found JLD very funny in Veep. I know, I’m ducking now!

  37. Rose says:

Where is Outlander? It has been wonderful!

  38. kori says:

Not really upset by any and super happy for a lot. Game of Thrones, Constance Zimmer, People vs Oj especially. And once again TV proves itself much better at diversity. Except for supporting actor/actress drama, every major category had at least one one person of color, many had more than one and some, like Limited series/movie dominated.

  39. TyrantDestroyed says:

I’m so excited to see my two favorite comedy sitcoms there, Black-ish and Silicon Valley!

  40. Ninette says:

    Happy for Hiddles!!!

  41. Craig says:

I know he pays the bills on this site due to clicks over here but why does Tom Hiddleston have to be the picture you choose to discuss the Emmys? His is a medium size category. Never mind, I answered that one myself.

  42. Westiesheepie says:

Really? You guys think Tom got the nomination because of the ‘fake’ PR dating of Taylor? Like his role in Night Manager wasn’t deserving? Like the series wasn’t an excellent series, which by the way it earned 11 nominations and he and Hugh are the producers. Oh and by the way, bet none of you know that Taylor won an Emmy last year for her Amex presents: the Taylor Swift experience. She didn’t even know she was nominated and won until she got the Emmy fedexed to her.

    • cherrypie says:

Since no one knows as you pointed out and she didnt even know until she won and was ‘fedexed’ the emmy, maybe it wasnt in an important category? Although I guess an Emmy is an Emmy is an Emmy irrespective of category. Ill have to google that win though.

  43. Liberty says:

    Yeah ok…….

But again, nothing for Vikings on the History Channel, so I am grouchy as hell.

  44. Josefina says:

Really happy for Sarah Paulson and Courtney Vance. Both were spectacular in ACS.

As for the GoT actors… eh. Sucks so many of them got recognised for what’s definitely the worst season to date. No objections on Lena and even Kit. Tyrion has been pretty irrelevant for this past 2 seasons so I’d gladly take Dinklage out, talented as he is. Sad they never recognised Iwan Rheon for his brilliant portrayal of Ramsey Bolton. I like Emilia Clarke but she is a terrible actress. Maisie? Well she’s better than Emilia but Arya was pretty boring this season. I’d gladly take Sophie over those 2.

Devastated over the lack of Penny Dreadful noms. One of the best-acted series I’ve ever seen. Eva Green in particular was sensational.

The nom I’m most excited for is definitely RuPaul, though. SNATCH THAT EMMY, QUEEN!

    • Spencer says:

I was SUPER-BUMMED about Penny Dreadful and now it is over… for shame! I love Eva Green she is/was fantastic in that role!

    • Intro Outro says:

Agreed that Green is terrific but Penny Dreadful season 3 plummeted roughly after episode 4 and the ending was abysmal, so I guess this lack of overall quality seriously undermined her chances to any noms.

  45. Masha says:

I disagree that Peter is one of the best actors, he used to be good a couple years ago, but he has been phoning it in for ages. I do think Kit has improved, but Alfie Allen is still leagues ahead of him and really should be recognized. As for Emilia, she seems really sweet but she is god awful on the show.

    • Locke Lamora says:

YES! I can’t believe Alfie was never nominated. He is one of the best, if not THE best actor on the show.

I’m also really happy Laurie Metcalf got 3 nominations.

    • M.A.F. says:

Agree on Peter Dinklage. I know his lines were pure crap this year but he should have been able to make it work. Emilia Clarke has always been the worst actor on the show for me. Still hard to believe she graduated from drama school right before she landed the part.

    • tracking says:

I just rewatched the first few seasons, and it’s amazing how much more committed and sharp Dinklage’s performance was then vs. now. Agree he’s phoning it in now, and that EC (and Harington’s) nods are ridiculous. Also agree Alfie’s performance the last two seasons was strong.

      • msd says:

I think Peter, like Maisie, hasn’t had much to do lately. I said to someone that I thought they could have given Arya a season off, as they did with Bran, and it would have been fine. They don’t dare do it, though, because certain actors and characters are too popular. So we get blah material where they’re just spinning their wheels. Alfie has been one of the most impressive actors on GoT but he didn’t have a lot to do after the first couple of eps this year either. Of all the noms, Lena’s is the most deserving and I think she might win too.

      • tracking says:

agree with all of this, msd

    • FF says:

Got to agree, Alfie Allen beats Kit by a miles. Seriously underrated. Pretty sure he’ll never get a nod for that show though.

  46. shelly says:

TNM I enjoyed the locations, Hugh Laurie and Tom Hollander.

Not sure if TH’s character was meant to be flatter than a day old glass of coke, but he was imo. Maybe he was written that way, or TH really isn’t as good as people say.

    Sherlock was dreadful too.

Also Iwan Rheon was excellent in GOT ditto Alfie Allen.

    #justiceforCorky

  47. betsy says:

Iwan Rheon wasnt nominated because HBO and the Game of Thrones producers didnt even put him forward. Its all about keeping the main talent happy so they put forward Peter Dinklage and Kit. It sucks. Dinklage did nothing this series. To add insult to injury its the Battle fo the B*stards episode which got all the nominations which lets be honest wouldnt have been as good if Iwan Rheon hadnt been great.

    • msd says:

Kit is the closest thing GoT has to a main character and he’s still “supporting”. Iwan Rheon and Alfie Allen barely qualify for the 50% of episodes rule for the category; they had no chance of being nominated.

      • Intro Outro says:

Oh, thanks for clarification! I had no idea that there was a quantitative parameter that had to be respected re: the amount of screen time.

  48. Abby_J says:

Anthony Mackie was ROBBED. All the Way was amazing, and he was great in it. Kingdom was robbed too, but I knew that was going to happen.

I am in SHOCK that Underground didn’t get nominated for anything. That show was also one of the best things I watched all year. Crap like Modern Family (which used to be good, but should have ended a few seasons ago) keeps getting nominated over and over and it is stupid.

Still, yay for Olivia Coleman! She is pretty much amazing in everything that she is in and I really hope she wins! Same with Kyle Chandler. He is fabulous in Bloodline.

  49. Thrilled The Americans was nominated!

Can’t wait to see if Hiddles brings Taylor to the event. mainly because I think that their peers will be laughing at them under their breath & Tom knows it. Is he smitten enough to have Taylor take away from him “just wanting to talk about his work” by bringing her to a major, important, star studded, work event with his very first Emmy nomination? Probably even though the sight of them will take away from his work. In the end, I think he’ll love the attention. Can’t wait.

  50. Insomniac says:

Aw, man – I just realized Denis O’Hare didn’t get anything for AHS. 🙁 I thought this season was awful, but he was so good. Liz Taylor deserved a better season.

  51. AG-UK says:

Yeah American Crime and Lili Taylor the guy who played her son should be nominated too but can’t remember his name. Love Blacki-ish, Silicon Valley and VEEP Tony Hale is genius.

  52. Elle says:

Too bad OITNB season 4 missed the cut off date, and couldn’t get in there.. Such a good season !

  53. So TomTom is sleeping his way to the top.

  54. Donna Martin says:

How is modern family still being nominated? That show hasn’t been good in years. Crazy ex girlfriend should’ve been up there

  55. Spike says:

Glad about Lili also. I’ve been a fan of hers for years. Taylor Jessup & Joey Pollari deserved noms too.

Drag Race is sickening – in the parlance of the scene. A blast.

Disappointments – Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Danai Guerra, Melissa McBride (Walking Dead), lack of noms for The Leftovers.

I’m not sure if these could have been considered – John Bernthal (Daredevil), Kristen Ritter, David Tennant (Jessica Jones).

Like everyone else I’m sick of the continued repeats of certain series. It’s lazy voters.

  56. Brittney B. says:

No love for my two favorite comedies on TV… Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Never thought I’d turn to the CW for funny, witty, feminist stories.

  57. jugil1 says:

Yah for Kyle Chandler & Ben Mendelson for Bloodline! I love that show. The acting is fantastic!

  58. FF says:

Lots of things to like here: Kerry Washington, Courtney B. Vance, Maisie Williams, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Rami Malek, Spacey & Wright, and Tatiana Maslany.

I feel like they nominate Dinklage automatically at this point. Alfie Allen gets no love and he does so much with so little on GOT.

Not to mention, The Walking Dead gets no love outside of effects and make-up it seems (which it deserves but there are also lots of great performances).

Keep meaning to check The Night Manager to see if it warrants the Hiddles-hype.

    • Intro Outro says:

Couldn’t agree more about Dinklage (who is a brilliant actor and whom I really love) and Allen! Imo there was next to nothing in season 6’s Tyrion that would warrant Dinklage this Emmy nom. And Emmys should have recognised long ago the awesome job Allen has consistently been delivering. It’s a shame.

I also feel the need to fret about the absence of nom for Sophie Turner. Imo she deserves it so much more for season 6 than Emilia Clarke (whom I like as a person but am not particularly thrilled with as an actress). Turner’s Sansa has grown, developed and changed so much and you see it all when she’s on screen.

  59. bluevelvet says:

I have absolutely no respect for the Emmys. The most watched TV show on TV is The Walking Dead. It has been snubbed since season one. It’s the best show, the acting superb… yet it’s never been acknowledged. Screw the Emmys I. NEVER WATCH THAT FARCE OF AN AWARDS SHOW.
