Tori Spelling gets a new ring for each wedding anniversary

I go back and forth on whether I can’t stand or can mildly tolerate Tori Spelling. She can come across as remarkably likeable, especially in her books, where she’s open and honest about motherhood in a way few celebrities would be. But then she’ll have one of her classic overshare moments and I wind up feeling sick to my stomach.

I’ve never been really impressed with her husband Dean McDermott – he just struck me as someone who jumped on a better gravy train when it passed through town. Not that Tori was innocent in him leaving his wife for her. But he’s slightly redeemed himself. It turns out he does something pretty romantic for their wedding anniversaries: buys her a new ring for each one.

Dean McDermott is keeping his promise to buy Tori Spelling a new wedding ring every anniversary. This year, the actor took his wife to dinner at Hollywood hotspot Mr. Chow and surprised her with a Neil Lane sparkler. “I love the tradition Dean has started,” Spelling exclusively tells PEOPLE. “Every year when he slips it on my ring finger, it reminds me of the day he made me his wife and we started our amazing journey together as one.”

The antique French ring consists of a round white diamond and a fancy round yellow diamond set side by side, symbolizing the expression “Toi et Moi”, or “You and Me”. “I can’t wait to one day pass on my amazing wedding band collection to my kids and their kids,” says Spelling, who is mom to daughter Stella, 11 months and son Liam, 2.

I’m not going to lie, a new ring every year would make me like a lot of guys I would otherwise feel neutral about. Not like them enough to marry them or anything, but let’s say he was a friend’s husband and I thought he was just so-so… good jewelry would definitely raise my opinion of him. That’s pretty sad.

You can see a picture of the ring here. It’s not really my taste – I don’t generally care for mixed metals, and the “yellow” diamond (which looks brown in the picture) next to the white diamond doesn’t really do it for me. I would like it if it were all one metal and two matching diamonds. But I’m going to let Dean slide on this one, because it’s the thought that counts. He should probably send me some jewelry for that.

Here are Tori and Dean out celebrating their anniversary at Mr. Chows on May 7th. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

I guess that makes us sad together…lol.

I mean, so long as he’s not Kobe Bryant-ing it and stuff. It’s all good.

  2. Tassi says:

Maybe he should buy her a hamburger or something for their anniversary? She is scary skinny!

Dean cheating on his wife Mary Jo Eustace during the final weeks of the adoption process of their daughter Lola means that he will always be a douche bag in my mind. Ring or ring at anniversary time!

  3. Valensi says:

Maybe those rocks on her fingers will do her some justice when she steps on the scale for the weekly weigh-in.

  4. Codzilla says:

Tassi: Agreed. They’re both grotesque on every possible level.

  5. clive says:

easy to buy a new ring each year when the money you’re using belongs to your wife.

  6. valupack says:

    You said it clive

  7. bros says:

the ring looks like bacteria replicating. which is exactly how I feel about these two. i wish they would keep their oversized alien heads out of the public eye for a while.

  8. boomchakaboom says:

Tassi: Yep. I agree. He’s an opportunist, plain and simple.

  9. Mel says:

I think it is a great tradition! That would be so exciting! He is still a douche though.

  10. boomchakaboom says:

Clive, that would take a bit of sentiment out of it for me if I was Tori, but she’s not exactly the type to give a damn about little nitpicky facts like her “soul mate” was someone else’s husband or her new rings are being purchased by HER.

  11. Hieronymus Grexx says:

I’m reminded of the ‘stupid spoiled wh*ore’ episode of South Park for some reason.

  12. crazymary says:

I think they suck. Really. Maybe they only plan on being together for 10 years since she only has 10 fingers. Lol.

  13. cakes says:

I’m traditional. I would be slightly offended if my husband bought me new wedding rings. I’m very emotionally attached to the rings I got on my wedding day. Nothing can replace them to me.
This is over consumption at its best.

  14. tasteT says:

I’ll never respect him nor like him because of his history of how he came to be Mr. Tori Spelling..

umm wasn’t it her money anyway?? he could not have his own reality show w/o her.

  15. Rosebudd says:

After working for a family law atty., it is my opinion that when a marriage comes out of one spouse or both leaving their family for another, the marriage is doomed. They are always looking over their shoulder because they fear their spouse will leave them the same way. Tori even expressed that to Dean in one episode. T is so busy throwing her mother under the bus and talking about raising her children. She shld. wait until her children are grown before she speaks.

  16. Kat says:

Lovely tradition, if not a bit over the top. The ring itself isn’t my style, though. Never liked gold, aside from costume jewelry.

  17. barneslr says:

I love gold, but I’m not crazy about that ring. Man, if my hubby had started that tradition when we got married, I’d have 20 wedding rings by now! A bit much. Now, if he wants to buy me jewelry every year, I can totally get behind that. But a new wedding ring? Not so much.

  18. PJ says:

Some people have way too much money… Too bad they can’t think of anything better to do with it.

  19. Michelle says:

So he should be applauded for spending her money to buy her a ring? I know she was cut off from her family’s wealth or some crap, but she’s the obvious breadwinner what with her horrible acting and books that somehow are bestsellers- wtf does he even do?

He’s just always struck me as a low-key version of K-Fed.

  20. aaaaaaaaaaaaaa says:

I’d hate to break it to you guys but there’s 2 sides to every story: I heard his ex wife was a huge b*tch, he didn’t want to adopt Lola and she forced it on him. They had been trying to get pregnant again for a long time and it wasn’t happening. She pioneered the adoption idea and he wasn’t fully on board, which didn’t matter to her. Why everyone defends that woman is so beyond me! I agree that cheating is never right and there’s no excuse, but at the same time, anyone who’s a fan of Tori & Dean’s show, as I am, can see they have such a great chemistry and they really care about each other. GO TORI AND DEAN!! SCREW DEAN’S HAG EX WIFE!!

  21. the original kate says:

i don’t get it – tori has talked about how she and dean struggle financially because she got cut out of daddy’s will and yet they keep buying diamond jewelry? it seems lots of hollywood types do that, like lohan complaining that she’s broke and then always going on holidays.

  22. Magsy says:

What a ridiculous waste of money, she could ever only wear 10 at a time, if their marriage makes it that long. I don’t even get why they have a reality show, tres, tres boring!

  23. Becci says:

I actually like Tori and Dean…
I love Tori’s business mind and Dean seems like an alright guy… They seem very much in love and very supportive of each other…
I am dissapointed about the ring thing… I think that is a bit over the edge but Tori DOES love jewelry.
