Melania Trump ‘loves her home in Manhattan & her independent life’

wenn28263866

As we discussed yesterday, it seems like Melania Trump is hellbent on NOT moving to Washington, DC in January. The excuse being given is that Melania wants to keep Barron in his fancy private school in New York, at least until the end of the school year. Although the way the “sources” are talking, it sounds like it will be a major task to get Melania to move into the White House even after the school year is done. Now People Magazine says yeah, Melania is a New Yorker and she just wants to live in New York during her husband’s administration.

Melania Trump is hesitant to trade the Big Apple for the nation’s capital. After news broke Sunday that Melania and her 10-year-old son Barron would not be moving to Washington, D.C. immediately after Donald Trump‘s inauguration in January, three sources have said that the wife of the president-elect does not want to live in the White House.

“Melania wants to stay in New York while her son goes to school,” a Palm Beach source tells PEOPLE. “I don’t know if she will ever live away from New York full time, especially with her son in school there. She loves her home in Manhattan and her independent life.”

Another source tells PEOPLE that the First Lady-to-be will go to Washington when she can.

“Melania has spent a lot less time in Palm Beach since Barron has been in school,” a social source tells PEOPLE. “She has rarely been in Palm Beach except for family holidays and charity fundraisers where she and her husband have shared the chairmanship. I see a similar pattern for her duties in Washington.”

A third social source says that “Melania is a great mother and that is her most important role.”

“Barron is the most important thing in Melania’s life,” the source tells PEOPLE. “She has told me this.”

On Sunday, Trump himself confirmed the news that the mother-son duo would stay in N.Y.C. at least until Barron finishes the school year. While escorting Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to a meeting at his golf course in New Jersey, the 70-year-old business mogul told reporters that Melania and Barron would move into the White House “right after he finishes school” next year.

[From People]

Yesterday, I talked about the costs involved with this kind of situation, which will be even more epic considering New York is the busiest city in the country. But here’s what I’m wondering: will the costs be as excessive if Melania and Donald Trump formally separate? A few months ago, when everybody thought Trump was going to lose the election (how blissfully ignorant we were), many people wondered if Donald would “trade in” Melania for a new model after all the dust had settled. While I have never believed that Melania and Donald had a particularly strong marriage, I think they had a general agreement and similar goals – she got to be a trophy wife and he got to do whatever he wanted. Now that more is expected from both of them, will their marriage withstand the pressure? I think that’s what all of this is about, and I wonder if both Melania and Donald are checking out their exit routes.

Melania married him hoping he would die and she and Barron would inherit whatever is left of his fortune. She didn’t sign up to be the First Lady. And she’s probably seen what Michelle does and goes through and was like nah I’m good.

    • Mike says:

This marriage, like this administration will likely end in tears and gunshots.

      • lightpurple says:

Mike! That was brilliant! Frightening. And probably highly accurate. But brilliant!

        And, MIKE!!!

      • SusanneToo says:

Sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed!!

      • Suzanne says:

I laughed out loud even though it’s tragic. I can’t believe this woman even has that option! You’re the First Lady….”move it on up”…as the Jefferson’s used to say! Reclaim that WHITE HOUSE….and go live you snooty ass in there….How are you going to host dignitaries and social events….from NYC? You can’t leave Donald alone in that place…don’t you remember how Bill got in trouble and his witchy wife was right in the same residence! Unless you want to make MORE history…a divorce DURING Donald’s administration would certainly soil his historical win.

      • Dinah says:

Melania may think Iowa is a cleaner choice at this point.

    • Tiny Martian says:

Not a Melania fan at all, but I think I can actually understand her for once : If my husband were to suddenly up and decide that he was going to run for President, and I was expected to just toe the line and become the perfect first lady? I’d be out like a light!

      • lightpurple says:

But she isn’t out like a light. Instead, she is demanding that we pay to indulge her every selfish desire and whim.

      • Tiny Martian says:

Agreed, Lightpurple, and not excusing her! I just think she’s used to being dragged along on Donald’s ride, and she really didn’t see this coming. And tbh, I doubt Melania herself even has an inkling of understanding of what the cost is to taxpayers, she seems pretty out of touch to me. Plus, she’s probably in shock, I doubt she thought for one minute that this would be her reality.

      • LAK says:

I remember an interview early in the campaign where she gave the impression that they would continue to live their separate together lives, but she wasn’t interested in being first lady at all nor would she try if he won.

I think what we are seeing is exactly what she said then.

She’s Melania Trump with her own life whose husband happens to be POTUS. They will live out his POTUS stint in the same way they have lived his business life in the past decade.

      • SusanneToo says:

This has been going on for nearly two years, not all of a sudden. There was time to make adjustments, time to discuss, time to negotiate. She didn’t just wake up two weeks ago and say, “OMG! What happened?”

      • Merritt says:

Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay to indulge Melania and Barron Trump. And people who live and work in Manhattan shouldn’t have their lives upended because of these two either. She could have pulled a Marla Maples and decided that getting control of her own life and child was a better deal than the money. But she is more interested in waiting for Trump to choke on a cheeto.

      • Lena says:

Then either he shouldn’t have run or they should have separated before his candidacy was announced.

      • jwoolman says:

Lightpurple – No, the government has decided to spend all that money protecting her because we have all gone insane about super duper security that really is no guarantee. She hasn’t asked for it. The Secret Service can protect the kid in NYC instead of DC, his private school in NYC is probably just as suitable. The Carters sent Amy to a public school, for gosh sakes.

I doubt that she wants the modern overkill on security. Obama is much more of a target than she is, even out of office (and especially if he carries out his activist plans), and his security in retirement won’t be as extensive as they’re pushing on her. It’s ridiculous to assume that she has to follow The Donald, they obviously have been leading separate lives. This was bound to happen eventually (and really already has, one case I know of was Bess Truman).

And as for risk to others in the building — any rich person can be a target for kidnapping. Any child likewise. Any person can be the target of a lunatic. Any building can be the target of a mad bomber. And a truly determined person could get past all the massive security. At some point you have to scale back to something more reasonable and take your chances. We have become very unreasonable in such matters.

In her case, maybe legal separation is the way out of this. I think she’s had it with The Donald anyway and she needs to protect her son from President Stupid. She doesn’t care if he finds another mistress. He might already have gone through a few.

  2. giulia says:

Can’t blame her wanting to get away from him. Must be hell getting the orange out her clothes, furniture, sheets towels…

    • eggy weggs says:

He looks like he smells bad, too.

I used to play a game with a friend…we’d figure out what celebs smelled like. So what, exactly, does Commander-In-Cheeto smell like?

    • ravensdaughter says:

Hee-hee! As for independent, I bet she can’t even dress herself anymore-she has a lady’s maid.

    • Ama says:

I see that as the real reason, too. The probably were living/sleeping on differnt floors anyway. I don’t like her, but I sort of understand she doen’t want to “sleep with him” anymore 😉 Though, she knew what she was getting (into) when she married him, so sorry, not sorry.

But the subject of Baron being in school: I could see why you don’t want to take your kid out of school in the mid-term of a school year.
What did the Obamas do with the girls? Can’t remember. It certainly wasn’t that much of a hassle, otherwise I think I would have remembered it.
      Anyone out there that remembers?

      • Iknowwhatboyslike says:

        http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/President44/story?id=6577929

Sasha and Malia started school in DC well before inaugaration day. It looks like it was after the Christmas holiday break. I’m sure being the organized and responsible parents they are, once he won the election in 2008, they sorted out the children’s school. The Obamas are responsible parents who knew that his presidency wasn’t about them and their needs. Michelle could have easily stayed in Chicago and keep the girls there, but she didn’t.

Also, my intuition is telling me that Barron may be on the spectrum. That could be the reason why they’re opting to keep a routine for him and not disrupt his year. If that’s it, then yes, I agree the transition should be as seamless as possible for his wellbeing.

  3. Bethy says:

At the cost of $1million dollars a day to guard Trump Towers for the city of New York, Melania better move. As a taxpayer, I’m not footing that expense! Plus, she signed up to be the First Lady to the Orange Cheeto, so do your job in Washington. I really have no sympathy for her.

    • Clare says:

But didn’t you know, Donald is soooooooooo rich and benevolent, he isn’t even going to take a salary. ugh.

      • Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Yea, and his salary will protect his “wife” and kid in NYC until noon of the first day.

      • SilverUnicorn says:

Like Hitler. With the huge difference that Hitler was not a millionaire (he was born really poor in Austria) and his symbolic gesture aided his propaganda.

Unbelievable that 50% of American voters thought this man could represent their interests…..

      • Merritt says:

        @SilverUnicorn

It is also unbelievable that so many people thought he was going to bring back obsolete jobs or any jobs given his history of not paying people for their work.

      • detta says:

Hitler was not born a millionaire, but he was one by the mid 1930s. For example he earned quite a bit with his book sales and got millions through payments for the use of his image on stamps. And he barely paid a penny of tax on any of it (had arguments with the Munich fiscal authorities for a while and later simply released himself of any tax duties). He absolutely knew how to look for his own business and negotiated very favourable contracts in his endeavours (as did those who rose to power with him and profited for their own sakes even before the theft of Jewish property began in earnest in 1938).
Hitler had millions sitting in bank accounts in Switzerland. The difference to Trump is that Hitler hid it as it would not have gone with the ideological front he put up, whereas Trump parades his businesses (because America loves millionaires). They both were/are after the love of the masses and their own riches and did/do whatever was/is deemed necessary.

      • Ama says:

Not taking any salary is actually quite ingnorant!!! It’s like he sees this office being merely a charity job. Kind of: “well, I am not even taking a dime for that job, so be happy that I do the job and don’t complain (aka: STFU)!”

    • Juls says:

Well I say if she gets to CHOOSE to live in NYC, then she does so on her OWN DIME. Donald claims to be super wealthy, let the Trumps pay for private security. In a way that doesn’t shut their sector of the city down. Selfish a**holes.

      • Melly says:

Donald isn’t going to spend a DIME on his own security. I think we all know that he isn’t as wealthy as he’d like us all to think. Barron is only in 4th grade, he can change schools no problem. I had to change school every 2-3 years because of my dad’s job. Suck it up Trumps. And the private schools in DC and surrounding area are incredibly. Sidwell Friends School is where the president’s kids usually go and it’s considered the Harvard of Washington private schools.
Even if they separate the tax payers are going to be footing the security bill. Trump’s young son is still a major target for kidnappers and terrorists, so the secret service will still be protecting them.

      • belakali says:

All I can say is “suck it up, Buttercup!” Your husband will be the Commander in Chief ordering military personnel and their families all over the world with short notice. Be an example to those wives and kids! My dad was a military officer for almost 40 years and we were moved anywhere between 1 and 6 times per year all over the globe. I even moved in the middle of my last year in high school. And, guess what?! My siblings and I survived just fine. Your kid will too.

      • MoochieMom says:

The asset separation isn’t that easy esp with an organization like Trumps. He actually has no access to his personal accounts once taking office. Melly is right on all accounts. Sorry for the downgrade but you signed up for this too. I won’t tolerate an absent First Lady child or not.

      • SusanneToo says:

I went to eleven different schools in twelve years, thanks to Dad’s Army career. I have zero sympathy for Melania and Barron as far as moving. I do sympathize that POS is part of their lives.

    • ravensdaughter says:

How can you avoid footing it? Donald will be POTUS and he WILL get what he wants.
I bet the people in Trump Tower are pissed. They didn’t bargain for this.

    • Erica_V says:

I saw that report today and I wondered how long it will take NYCers to revolt against paying for that and burn the FKA Trump Tower to the ground…

    • aenflex says:

I have no sympathy for her either. I find it hysterical, in the literal sense, that she’s going to be FLOTUS.
Unfortuntely, taxpayers will pay for it. There is no choice in the matter. With all the ridiculous expenditures the government takes part in, I personally am not offended by money spent protecting the FLOTUS and her child(ren). No matter who they are.

  4. Zapp Brannigan says:

If America has to live with him so do you Melania!

  5. Clare says:

someone on here said a few weeks ago that Ivanka would be defacto first lady – and I can see now that this is exactly what is going to happen. ‘Surrogate wife’ I believe was the term used.

I don’t think Melania is cut out to play statesman’s wife – she can barely deliver a pre-written and practiced speech, how is she going to socialise with dignitaries and politicians, who will, given the chance, eat her alive. Especially following the amazinginess of MObama – she knows not to even enter the fray.

This presidency is going to change the face of American politics – starting with Trump completely dumping conventions and ‘norms’ like living in the White House etc, which aren’t codified by law. Melania not moving to DC is probably the least of our worries – although, sorry NYC!

    • lightpurple says:

I have no issue with somebody else fulfilling the “job duties” of FLOTUS. I do have a problem with this selfish, arrogant moron wasting $1 million a day in tax dollars from NYC plus more from the federal government and the state of New York. This should have been discussed between the two of them BEFORE he applied for the job. She needs to move her butt to DC and drop this selfish crap.

      • Cee says:

Do you really believe he consults anything with her?

      • Lisa says:

Do you think she thought he would win? uh – no

      • Clare says:

Could not agree with you more, lightpurple.

this whole thing is an utter farce and we are left to pay for it while the orange one runs around saying ‘hey I’m not even being paid to do this’.

      • Kris says:

Please, with all the money he will save by building walls and throwing out all those stinking, foreign criminals, you will hardly notice that extra million a day! I’m sure he has an “excellent” business plan to take care of that. Everyone will be swimming in money soon!

(unfortunately, I feel the need to point out that this is irony. You’d think that this would be obvious, but sadly, in these times, it’s not).

        *sigh*

      • Pawra says:

I want to see the receipts on how much her staying in NYC is going to cost the public, because if Trump isn’t taking a salary, I’d bet he’s probably too proud to use the lousy Secret Service to protect his wife and child. They already have private security, and I’ll bet he will just throw more money at that to beef up their level of security. NBD for him.

      • noway says:

A sitting President’s minor children and wife do not have a choice about Secret Service protection. Now if she divorces him and remarries she can decline it, but Barron can’t as he is a minor. I know a lot of secret service agents. One told me about her wanting to stay there right after the election, and she does want to stay the whole time, and NYC is having a fit as this poses a big security issue not just the expense.

Apparently, adult children do not have to take them, however, both Ivanka and Tiffany are taking the secret service protection. Donald, Jr. and Eric are not as of yet. Barron will only lose the protection when his father is out of office and he is 16, now if Trump only stays for one term Barron will be 14 he would be entitled to protection for two more years. Now Jackie Kennedy did ask to stop the protection and she hired her own and was granted that request, but she did have to request it. Technically the youngest Obama daughter should still have protection for a bit after he leaves. Usually they give them all a curtesy six months, but we will see if they will request more. Now Trump and Melania, if she stays married to him will have it for life. The only way Melania can get rid of it if she remarries or she makes a special request. Yes the secret service is protecting a lot of people.

      • SusanneToo says:

No, Pawra, he won’t spend a dime on their security. He loves stealing other people’s and foundation’s money for his personal use. Look it up.

    • Melly says:

Not a Melania fan here, but I’ve heard she is much better in person then she is on stage giving a speech. She probably would do just fine socializing with dignitaries. I don’t think she wants that life at all though, she want’s mimosas and spa days. We can’t always get a Michelle Obama, she set the bar for FLOTUS so high I don’t know if anyone can surpass her.
This BS about not moving to DC full time pisses me off. They act like DC is a 3rd world country. There are amazing private school there and all the security they will ever need. It’s part of the job to relocate. Why aren’t penny pinching republicans throwing a fit about this!?!
Trump is going to change this country for the worse. I just hope we can find a democrat like Obama to come in and fix it in 4 years. Please Michelle, run for president in 2020! Your country needs you.

    • steerpike says:

If Ivanka fulfills first lady duties while also running his company, his conflict of interest problem will get even worse.

  6. Luca76 says:

According to the mayor it’s costing the city 1million a day. And that’s not factoring in lost revenue to the local stores. This is the kind of crap that tacky dictators pull. If she doesn’t want to be First Lady she should go somewhere isolated.
    http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/21/news/protecting-donald-trump/index.html

    • Lisa says:

I say The Cheeto should foot the bill for this. The only living arrangements the taxpayer should foot the bill for is the White House. The crap this family pulls……. I suppose that the taxpayer will also pay for the endless flights back and forth between Washington and New York for the WHOLE FAMILY. SMH

    • Tiffany :) says:

It’s costing the “City” $1M per day…which they will then CHARGE BACK to the US government. The US tax payers are the ones who are footing 100% of the bill for this, not just the people that live in NY.

  7. RussianBlueCat says:

” She loves her home in Manhattan and her independent life” That quote made me think of Eva Gabor’s character from the television series ” Green Acres”. Of course Donald would be ” Arnold Ziffel”…..

  8. paolanqar says:

    Independent life???

    • SilverUnicorn says:

Yep. Using tax payers to be independent must be brilliant, right?

    • MostlyMegan says:

And living off your husband’s wealth. SOOOO independent.

    • Melly says:

Isn’t this just code for “she loves her time away from Donald”? That’s how I read it. That man must be a nightmare to live with! Oh what some people will do for money.

  9. Locke Lamora says:

This is a great opportunity to completely get rid of the FLOTUS role. Giving so much prominemce to the spouse of the guy in charge does not make sense.

    • Luca76 says:

She can do whatever she wants but she needs to get out of NY.

      • Cee says:

She can go and live in isolation at the White House, where her preciousness will be protected from evil and she can still shop up a storm.

      • Kris says:

I wonder if it would be less expensive to fly her kidfrom DC to school in NY every day.

      • Neelyo says:

Word. I am so pissed about this. I live in Midtown, luckily West, but since the election the traffic has gotten much much worse. I want that family out of here.

    • lizzie says:

except previous FLOTUS’ have made incredible contributions to the world through their influence. it isn’t just giving prominence to someone’s lousy wife. These women are usually better received than their husbands and are responsible for considerable social outreach and education programs. Barbara and Laura Bush (literacy and AIDS awareness, the historical preservation of the white house and other buildings in DC) , Hillary Clinton (child welfare/women’s issues/healthcare) and Michelle Obama (literally everything she touched)…i could go on and on going back to Taft’s wife who became a diplomat through her patronage of the arts and helped to orchestrate the planting of the cherry blossoms in DC, an iconic symbol of diplomacy in the Nation’s Capitol, which were gifted from Japan.

      • Melly says:

Yes yes yes to everything Lizzie said. FLOTUS has been a major avenue of female empowerment. It’s both an iconic and empowering role that has helped our country and world during times of war and peace. On many occasions it’s helped bring republicans and democrats together.

      • MoochieMom says:

Except she never thought it would happen. Welcome to America. Isn’t she a citizen?

      • Iknowwhatboyslike says:

Don’t forget the icon Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. She set the bar for other FLOTUSes like Hillary, Michelle. It’s a very important role, one which, if in good hands, can make a difference.

    • Radley says:

It’ll be de facto eliminated with Trump in office because she’s hellbent on being the most do nothing First Lady in American history.

I’m imagining the state dinners. Who will be the first foreign dignitary to show up? What prominent people will actually accept an invite? Yeesh. But I guess Squinty can handle an evening gown and small talk without setting off an international incident. Then she’ll disappear again.

Now her husband. . .it’s just a matter of time before he offends a foreign head of state. Bigly.

    • jwoolman says:

The FLOTUS twofer also has always been based on the sexist assumption that the wife didn’t have a separate career or business and was able and willing to follow her husband anywhere, dropping her own projects, and make him her job. That whole idea was bound to fall apart eventually.

Just because other women have done what they could with the FLOTUS job doesn’t mean every wife of a President has to do likewise. Melania knows her own skills and she can see that this job isn’t for her. I don’t care if all she does is watch soaps and eat bonbons all day – she has absolutely no obligation to be FLOTUS. What would an unmarried man in the a White House do? The whole idea of a First Family is ridiculous. We got rid of royalty a long time ago.

Plus even The Donald didn’t plan to win. It was all a publicity stunt to get more money for a tv show and build his brand. Of course she was convinced they would be free of all the nonsense by November 9. Donald probably assured her of the same thing.

      • Ama says:

You have a point there…thats why it would have been fun to have a First husband Bill at the White House.

  10. Cee says:

She is now the future First Lady – she should either leave or get over herself and step up to the plate. I wonder if she ever thought he would actually win.

    • kodakay says:

I don’t believe HE thought he would win. It was a lark that backfired on the American people. The ones that didn’t vote for him anyway.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

And the ones who voted for him, too, except for the billionaires and empowered white supremacists.

    • Melly says:

What about her bullying campaign? is she going to do that from New York? She is going to be the most useless FLOTUS ever. That roll is for strong women who have ambitions that match their husband’s.

  11. Jenns says:

Just imagine if Michelle Obama tried to do this. Conservatives would’ve lost their minds.

    • Miss Melissa says:

The Obamas would have been crucified.

But then again, they should know their place, right.

Welcome to the Fourth Reich, America.

    • Melly says:

Conservatives lost their mind when the Obama’s went to NYC for a date night. The cost for security was like $65,000 and republicans practically sh!t their pants about it. But the Trumps want to spend millions turning their NY home into a second white house (Gold house?) and that’s fine. It’s just fine. We’re all fine.
Let’s say they spend millions of tax payer dollars securing the Trump’s apartment, which would undoubtedly include some construction. The Trumps get to live in the apartment after his presidency, benefitting from his time serving as president in an unprecedented way. HOW IS THIS OK!? HOW IS ANY OF THIS OK!? I need more coffee, xanax, and puppy play time.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

I got into a huge fight with some lady on FB yesterday, who was trying to say it wasn’t a big deal. I told her the Republicans were being hypocrites since everything the Obamas have done from day 1 has been scrutinized and scorned. She accused me of wanting something to happen to the family. I said no, that was her side. Melania is the future FLOTUS. While it sickens me, I have no sympathy for her or Barron. Many military families deal with this type of thing. They move, they adjust, and life goes on.

      • Melly says:

Lol that’s ridiculous. Melania and her family would be SAFEST at the white house. There are all sorts of built in protection measures for the first family. Even the school that the president’s kids attend are secured. There is a higher chance of something bad happening to the family if they stay in NYC where their protection can’t really be guaranteed.
Maybe someone should let Melania know that in DC we have lots of great spas. We aren’t some 3rd world country! Maybe that will help convince her to move here.

  12. vauvert says:

And in the meantime Trump is quietly meeting up with Indian developers to line up his pockets. Already started and he’s not even POTUS yet. WHY isn’t that in more news?

We could all see that Melania was not going to move to DC or act as FLOTUS – in fact even if she wanted to, HE most likely doesn’t. He would much rather have that snake Ivanka act in her stead, since most people are easily fooled by her glib lines. Also, Melania can’t sell anything – but Ivanka sure as hell will shill her line – just wait for all the additional products, plus her father’s new hotel, plus make all the deals because hey, his kids are running the business as a “blind trust”. I am so sickened by all of it, I honestly don’t know how you guys will put up with 4 years of it. (And if you can believe Bannon, Satan’s disciple, more like 50 years of it…)

    • SilverUnicorn says:

I think the other article about him meeting the press does explain why that isn’t in the news…

    • iralagi says:

In president-elect’s latest tweet, he said he is preparing cabinet for 8 years

    • Luca76 says:

Oh yes that’s the second part of this. He’s going to go from fake billionaire to actual billionaire within the next few months.

We need a modern-day Deep Throat from within the FBI. Surely someone must be investigating these business dealings, and the time has come for it to be leaked to either the Washington Post and/or the NY Times. The press has the power to take this guy down, it’s been done before.

      • Luca76 says:

The FBI put him in power. They probably have enough information on him already to disqualify him but they don’t care. The public at large doesn’t really care either.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

The press had the power to take him down for the past year and half and did not. I don’t see why they would trouble themselves now.

      • noway says:

Well Bob Woodward is still working at the Post. You never know!!! Woodward can be kind of pompous too, but I wouldn’t want him coming after me. I bet my life he is looking already.

    • Greeneyes says:

I wake up every morning and pray this is the day I am told.. “sorry you have been in a coma. Your imagination was going into overtime, you came to mumbling incoherently something about President Elect Trump?? You must have been hit even harder than we thought”…. But NO, God help us I wake up to a very strange insane reality every morning where:
      1. Trump is President Elect.
      2. Trumpeters will bully you (or beat you) for
      saying anything negative about Trump.
      3. The Constitution is still sacred or at least
whatever interpreted version of it Trump is
      using for the day is.
      4. The First Amendment is dead unless your a
Trumpeter or the Orange King himself.
      (even then see #3)
      5. The Second Amendment is the only that
      matters.
      6. People I’ve known all my life & thought I
knew have shown themselves to be racist,
      Homophobic, sexist, and everything else.

I can’t keep up with this list.. I’ll be here all day & want to cry.. I just can’t understand how do many in my country believe his crazy promises.

    • ol cranky says:

he pulled a Nixon earlier today to basically say that as POTUS there is no such thing as him having a conflict of interest in anything and that we all knew he did business all over the world when he ran and nobody had an issue with that (except we did and kept pressing him on setting up a blind trust – which would mean his adult children could not continue to tun the business). This is why he thinks it’s OK for him and the kids to share in running the country like it’s part of the Trump consortium of businesses

  13. Mar says:

I think it’s a bit disgraceful to not move into the White House. That is a tradition for every first family.

  14. Christin says:

She seems to always use the word ‘independent’ when describing her life. Anderson C noted how she stressed that in his interview with her. Nobody tells her what to do, she said.

Someday the golden veil of this marriage will be lifted. I have a feeling it is highly contractual with very little interaction required.

  15. Jess says:

Seriously?!? She’s trying to spin this as she’s such a wonderful mother and Barron is her first priority? Ha. No, she needs to be in the White House and so does Barron. This is going to be ridiculously expensive and like others said yesterday a huge burden on locals. So selfish, and liberals have been called cry babies and told to get over it, now they need to tell her to suck it up buttercup, she has a job to do whether she wants to or not.

God I’m going to miss Michelle, she’s been an incredible First Lady.

    • Kitten says:

      From Michelle Obama…to THIS.

    • Esmom says:

Jess, I agree. Moving to the White House and being FLOTUS goes with the territory. I get that they thought he would lose and are unprepared for the move, but they should have thought of all this sooner.

And Kitten, I know. Ugh. Also I’m sure Michelle “loved” her life in Chicago but she knew what needed to be done.

  16. HK9 says:

This is foolishness. I wonder what kind of revolt New Yorkers would have to put on to get them the hell out of there…..something has to be done.

  17. poppy says:

the whole thing is a sh¡t show.
if they are really planning for 8 years it would make more sense for the little one to go ahead and start in DC in january.

throw it out there and see what sticks indeed!

  18. Jaina says:

I say, more power to her. I think most of the country would like to get away from Trump so if she can manage it, great for her.

    • SusanneToo says:

No problem with her screwing the taxpayers and New Yorkers while doing it???

      • MoochieMom says:

While spending taxpayer money on needless things because she wants it that way? Sorry – she posed nude. She can get her ass in gear to be a FL.

      • jwoolman says:

NYC taxpayers won’t be paying for it. It’s a federal expense and the city will be reimbursed for anything it spends.

The government has made the decision to do it in the most costly and disruptive way possible. That decision can be changed so traffic and stores/restaurants won’t be disrupted. They should just look at the normal security already in place and make reasonable additions.

As for the cost – even at its wildest, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the military budget. A single bomb cost about a million dollars when the Bushes were dropping them in mass quantities on Iraq. I imagine there’s been a big price increase since then. A single bomber plane can easily cost more than $500 million dollars. Buy one less bomber and you can pay for two years even at the ridiculous levels of security they’re trying now. The people not bombed as a result will thank you.

  19. Mamunia says:

As angry as I am that this disgusting man was elected President, I am going to enjoy the veil being lifted from the eyes of his voters. This move in particular will annoy his more conservative voters. Melania has been using the Barron excuse for the last 2 years and he’s been parading his daughter in place of his wife. Seeing as he would like his son-in-law as an advisor, they may move to Washington, while his wife stays in NY. Supposedly, we will be paying to fly them back and forth on weekends further adding to the expense. I just hope I’m around to say, “Told you so!”

    • Bitchy says:

I think Melania is just trying to lower the bar or the standard. She knows she can’t hold a candle to Michelle Obama or even to the Bushs’ wives.
She will move into the WH as soon as trump moves in. Barron will get a nice elite education in Washington. and that is it.

  20. The Original G says:

Let me say that the Trumps will have to negotiate a satisfactory logistical and financial solution to the problem of the security of their family and their property and assets. They can’t lock Manhattan up.

But no woman and child are the chattel of their husband no matter what his position. She can do as she pleases. Frankly there are many more important things going on in the US and the world to be concerned about.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

But they are locking Manhattan up and they don’t believe they have to negotiate anything.

She can do as she pleases if she divorces him, but she is the spouse of the president-elect, she campaigned for him, and whether she likes it or not she has seemingly agreed to be part of the presidential package.

      • The Original G says:

Please cite a source for the assertion that there will be no negotiation around Mrs. Trump’s security?

No woman has to be divorced to assert her own rights to live and do what she wants.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

None of us can predict the future, but there is a history in the Trump campaign of not negotiating. Now that power is within their reach, we are seeing an even greater, almost monarchical expectation of being above having to work things out with other people.

Very few CB posters are not feminist in orientation. We’re all for Melania Trump asserting her rights. I am not for Melania Trump wasting taxpayer money and costing people jobs when she has clear alternatives that involve a) separating from her husband b) living somewhere other than the White House AND midtown Manhattan. At some point, both women and men have to look at what their situation is costing other people, especially if they campaigned for their husband to become a public servant.

      • The Original G says:

I’m not a Trump supporter in any way. Given that Trump Tower has most likely been a high-value target for many years, I’m certain that there has been a comprehensive security plan to monitor it for many years. If she does not move to the WH the Trumps should pay for their own security.

But the entire FLOTUS thing is an anachronism, to begin with. There’s no need to spend tax money on that either and absolutely no reason that a spouse needs to be in political lock-step with an elected official.

      • supposedtobeworking says:

I don’t mind her being independent. I think she should do it somewhere that doesn’t cost the taxpayer as much. Maybe Mara Largo or whatever its called. Turn it into a private residence for 4 years.

      • The Original G says:

Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe she moves to Westchester or Jersey? Work it out.

Did we think that Bill Clinton was going to sit ensconced in the White House reviewing table luncheon table assignments and planning the Easter Egg hunt?

Why do we need this made up job at all?

    • Lightpurple says:

Every time a First Lady leaves the residence, a full Secret Service detail is mobilized and streets must be closed. Destinations must be searched and access restricted. People on the premises must be searched and bomb sniffing dogs are brought in. Every single time. We pay for that and locals are inconvenienced by that. This woman is not Queen. She needs to move her selfish, arrogant arse to DC.

      • Bitchy says:

        She will.
She is just lowering the bar or the standard by which her performance as FLOTUS will be measured.
kind of like this: Melania: “I never wanted the job so you must not judge me too hard.”

    • NatalieS says:

Is the speaking point, that being FLOTUS doesn’t matter?

What an insult to the work of all the women who have served in that role.

      • The Original G says:

Yes, the speaking point is that expecting a wife of a politician to perform duties that are best executed by event planners and actual diplomats is anachronistic and sexist. It’s role more akin to a royal family than a democracy.

How does that insult anyone’s good works? Times change.

      • SusanneToo says:

Actually, OG, few modern FLs have served as event planners. Eleanor was an activist for human rights, Jackie had the beautify the WH role, Lady Bird pushed to beautify America and clean up the highways and byways, Betty F. brought addiction problems out of the shadows, Laura Bush and literacy, Michelle and support for military families and healthier living choices. Too many are rushing to defend Melania’s quite selfish behavior. It’s not like she has a career she’d be giving up. She’d just be temporarily moving her useless, indulgent lifestyle from one luxurious residence to another.

  21. robyn says:

Taxpayers certainly have every right to be upset about this, especially since Trump the self-professed billionaire pays NO taxes. The indecency of this entire things makes me want to pull my hair out.

  22. khaveman says:

From Michelle Obama to this. I like that statement. This whole transition is a bad dream, no matter which side you voted for. Nightmare presidency. This is over their heads, completely. UNQUALIFIED FOR THE JOB.

    • AnneC says:

Just in the last few days, he’s asked Argentinian president to help speed up a building permit in Buenos Aires, met with Indian businessmen about his business holdings and asked a group of British Politicians to make sure a wind farm doesn’t go in next to his Scottish golf courses. His daughter has been involved in at least 2 of these conversations. He’s sent out numerous whining thinskinned tweets in the last few days about Hamilton, Saturday night live and press being mean to him.

Clearly Trump’s first priority is going to be lining the coffers of his business. The idea that this guy was a populist who was going to help people is laughable. He’s never shown any inclination or interest in helping anyone but himself and his corrupt family. Welcome to our new Banana Republic.

      • ol cranky says:

he also asked Nigel Farage to help him get rid of the windmills he thinks are destroying the view from his Scottish golf course

      • Bitchy says:

If you want a role model for what kind of POTUS trump will be then google Silvio Berlusconi. President of Italy.

  23. Theresa Allen says:

She loves New York and her independent life, well DC is very political and you have to be able to talk politics here. The glamour, bright lights, fashions, being seen hobnobbing with important people. None of that is important in DC. As far as her independent life and what ever she was doing in New York, that’s over for the next four years. Her new title will be hostess. What she should do is take some speaking lessons so she can talk better.

  24. supposedtobeworking says:

So, a cost of 1.5 billion$ for security alone over a 4 year (plus transition time) period. That doesn’t include the travel cost of her going to the WH to show up every once in a while. ugh.

  25. HoustonGrl says:

I am not ok with my tax dollars going toward sponsoring this woman’s extravagant lifestyle. But then again, stealing from the poor to give to the rich is what Republicans do best.

  26. L says:

So I guess she won’t be tending the vegetable patch or doing carpool karyoke with James Corden, either?

  27. MoochieMom says:

I think I found a way to not pay taxes for this bullshiz. 🙂

  28. kibbles says:

I will give her leeway for a year if her true intention is to allow her son to finish his school year in NYC.

It sucks for Barron that his life will be uprooted if he likes his current school and doesn’t want to move to DC, but many normal kids have to deal whenever their parents find a new job and need to move to a new city.

However, it seems Melania wants to stay in NYC for the next four years, and to me that is unacceptable. Not because I think she needs to move into the White House, but because this is going to be a nightmare for the tourists and people who live or work in the vicinity of Trump Towers.

It would also benefit Melania if she at least pretends to be in a normal and healthy marriage. She has duties as FLOTUS and should carry out at least one initiative as well as accompany her husband to certain events both at the White House and in foreign countries.

If all Melania signed up for was to be a trophy wife who never works, she should have asked her husband not to run. Rather than complain, she should see this as an amazing opportunity most of us would kill for. She will get to live in the White House, attend amazing state dinners, and travel the world for free to meet with foreign dignitaries. I don’t feel sorry for her.

  29. DD says:

That’s fine as long as he pays for it himself! Not on taxpayers!

  30. buzz says:

doesn’t love America – feels no duty of First Lady. Disgusting.

  31. Kate says:

Honestly, I don’t mind this at all. The concept of a First Lady is absolutely ridiculous in this day and age. There shouldn’t be any reason why the spouse of the President has to give up their life to play hostess and redecorate and work on a focus-grouped to death cause. They should be able to continue on as normal. They didn’t run, they weren’t elected. It’s such a weird relic, I don’t know why people want to hold on to it.

    • kibbles says:

I think it would be expected for the spouse of any president elect to move into the White House. It would have been weird if Hillary Clinton had been elected and Bill decided to live most of the year at his home in Little Rock, Arkansas or Chappaqua, New York. It is to the spouse’s discretion what he or she wants to do to decorate the White House to the family’s liking. As I said above, in theory it shouldn’t matter if Melania stays in NYC with Barron, but the reality is a nightmare for anyone who lives or works around Trump Tower. It’s costly and requires a lot of additional security which would not be an issue if she and Barron move to the White House.

  32. emma says:

Girl, you will not be living an independent life…ever again?

  33. Lori says:

So, by the end of Trump’s 1st term:
    • Taxpayers will end up footing a bill for $1,440,000,000 billion, and
    • Millions of New Yorkers will have spent 4 years of gridlock, detours, and intermittent/limited access to a heavily-trafficked area of Manhattan…
…ALL so an entitled, vapid snob is spared from the trauma she’d endure of having to live in the White House?!!!

I call bullshit on the Barron/school excuse. She’s just looking out for #1 and could care less about who she has to step over in the process. But, at least we’re making America great again!

    • Melania Unprepared says:

Totally agree with Lori! Neither Trump nor Melania are interested in serving the PEOPLE of America. Trump wants the prestige of being President without understanding how much hard work and sacrifice is required. Melania is a completely uneducated woman who bared all to attract the attention of a rich man, married him and wants to play New York Princess in her gold penthouse. She can’t even string a sentence together without it being fed to her.

For them to live even part-time in busy Manhattan is a security nightmare at a very high tax payer cost! That wasted money should instead go to help under privileged American children.

  34. Bread and Circuses says:

Melania doesn’t seem into any of this. Maybe she doesn’t argue with Cheeto Mussolini much, but she also didn’t do very much to support him except show up nicely dressed and wave. One (plagiarized) speech and the repetition of a few talking points, and that’s about it for her.

I suspect showing up nicely dressed and repeating a few talking points is the majority of what she brings to the marriage too, and Cheeto doesn’t notice because he’s so self-centred and shallow.

I think she really does just want to be left alone to raise her son and buy anything she wants. She didn’t want to be roped into any of this.

  35. Shannon says:

Melania – no offense, I feel for you being married to him and all. I love my independent life, too. To keep it, I stay broke af (at least compared to you) and I never married a rich psychopath. IN fact, my son’s father, although nowhere near Donald Trump level, is quite crazy and makes quite a bit of money (compared to myself, anyway) and I didn’t marry him. Why? Because I realized when I was pregnant that he was batshit crazy. Now, if he runs for president and somehow wins, guess what? I don’t have to move *anywhere* and my son stays right here with me. See, we all make choices. You made yours, now move your ass to DC or file for divorce.
    Sincerely,
    Me

  36. Rina says:

Melania did not voluntarily sign up for the role of FLOTUS. She will not move from the tainted gold condo (err…penthouse) in the Trump Tower. I doubt that Donald wanted to be POTUS. He wanted the publicity to further his media exposure and business ventures. But now, he is on the hook.

Doesn’t he want to “work from home” part of the time instead of living at the White House? Too bad for Trump because he won the election. I will never forget the bewildered (what the heck did I get into?) look on his face after the official meeting with Obama. Time to buck up, put on those big girl / boy undies, and step up to the needs and requirements of the role of President of the United States.

Can Donald really make a Hail Mary attempt at being POTUS…I guess we will find out soon. God bless our country. We need it!

    • Bitchy says:

I agree. And I would like to point this out in addition to your quality posting:
I think Donald doesn’t care that much about becoming POTUS.
For him it is just a continuation of his business career and that his how he will treat his new position. He will use his position to further his business interests and be a good POTUS for himself and only for himself.
He does even have a role model in Italian President Silvio Berlusconi who has done it all: sex scandals (with and without minors), crimes which he could get a way with because of immunity and completely ruining Italy.

      As for Melania:
If Melania isn’t there to provide support and … other things the guess what grab-them-by-the-pussy Donny T will do. Bill Clinton’s horizontal activities will look like a little mishap in comparison.
Perhaps Melania is just playing shy maiden who acutally doesn’t want the responsibility … she is lowering the bar that is used to measure her performance as FLOTUS.
There are speeches by Melania. Listen to them and you get an idea how she will perform as FLOTUS.

  37. aquarius64 says:

I see a sex scandal on the horizon. Either Donald gets a First Mistress or Melania gets a sidepiece.

  38. jana says:

You know this woman has some studly sidepiece in New York she can’t bear to leave…no way is she sleeping with Dufas Don on the regular.

  39. sodapop says:

All the developments coming out of the Trump camp are godawful. I feel like I’m watching America devolve into a fascist state. Victory rallies?! Basically forcing diplomats to stay at your hotels?! Allowing your relatives (who you said run your business interests) participate in foreign affairs meetings?! What the fuck. Conservatives need to wake up and if they have any love for their country at all overthrow this guy, or neuter him behind the scenes or SOMETHING.

  40. Melania Unprepared says:

The Trump admin are using Barron as an excuse to not move Melania Trump to the White House. She is completely unprepared to take on the role of First Lady. They will need months to “prepare” her in some manner. What is expected of her, duties, causes etc. She married Trump for his money and an easy, luxurious life. Not to serve the country.

She only has a high school education from a communist country. Enrolled for a year in their free college system – we don’t even know if she attended. Has no work experience besides modelling. She is incapable of independent thought and only uses words fed to her by Trump’s campaign. That explains why in her interviews, she uses the same phrases over and over again.

Melania has lied about having a degree, lied about writing her own speech, lied about her US visa status. Her lack of enthusiasm is not what Americans want or needs,
