Covering photos from the annual Victoria’s Secret show is never one of my favorite jobs, so this year I’ve decided to make it a little bit easier (for myself) by just focusing on the Instamodels/nepotism models. While there were some big-name models on last night’s runway – Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Lily Aldridge, Alessandra Ambrosio – my guess is that the Instamodels are getting the most attention anyway. So here are some photos of Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner.
This was Bella Hadid’s first time walking for VS, and she was really proud to be chosen for this Paris show. Bella looked very model-y, I have to say. She even kept her composure when she had to walk the runway while her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd, was performing. Reportedly, The Weeknd and Bella left things on good terms when they did break up, and they were hanging out together backstage last night. He even seemed to be flirting with Bella while she walked the runway.
As for Gigi and Kendall… to me, Gigi looks fine, but I’ve always thought that Gigi and VS are a perfect fit. She’s got that “Victoria’s Secret aesthetic,” which is to say… blonde, pillow-lipped, bedroom-eyed. I also think Gigi looks like she’s lost a lot of weight in the past few months. I noticed that when she was hosting the American Music Awards too – she looks very, very slender these days. Kendall is, to me, the odd model out. Looking through the photos, she’s the one who looks like she doesn’t belong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gigi’s boots are fantastic, I must say. The Bella/Abel thing seemed awkward, but they both handled it well.
They looked scared, uncomfortable and out of place.
They really make you miss Candice, Gisele and Doutzen.

I am not sure about Kendall and Bella’s bodies. They are just thin but with no muscle definition or curves.
Gigi had a great body, but the weight loss doesn’t suit her, IMO.
That’s what I was seeing! I was into models in the 90s growing up (which is disturbing & should not have been my past time but that’s another post) and when I looked at Kendal & Bella here there is just no spark. Super pretty & great bodies but they seem like dim light bulbs. I like Gigi okay- she looks like she is having fun.
@ paolanqar – Really? I think they have really good hip-to-waist ration and long torsos, which are things I admire, probably because I’m built pretty straight-up-and-down.
MC2: I was obsessed too!!! My mom was so concerned because all I would watch is Fashion TV and the models on the runway. She even asked if I was gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that!!) and one point bc that’s all I would watch and admire their bodies. It was at Gisele’s peak and just watching her walk (what a walk too! Seriously- she commanded attention!) would blow me away!!
Kendall doesn’t have curves, or do you mean she doesn’t have breasts? Doesn’t have fat? Because in that red Chinese dragon getup, I’m amazed at her hip to waist ratio. She has great feminine hips that curve up into this tiny ribcage.
That’s literally the definition of curves. It doesn’t always mean voluptuous per se. But i think she is plenty curvy, as opposed to a narrow hipped, small breasted woman (of any weight) , who might not be labeled curvy. (Like myself. Short torso has no room to curve in. 😔)
I think Gigi fits right into VS, although she did lose quite a bit of weight. Bella looks better in HS runways, she’s more interesting, less bombshell sexy. Kendall is an all around awful model.
Having said that, Gisele was awesome, but Doutzen and Candice? Doutzen was incredibly beautiful, but had the charisma of a potato. Candice also didn’t have charisma, and this is me, but in every interview I’ve seen with her, she has the most irritating sickly sweet voice and comes across as a bit dumb, so never liked her.
When Lima and Ambrosio leave, VS won’t have anyone charismatic.
I think Behati is also charismatic, I really missed her.
I can not stand Candice. That sickly sweet baby voice is awful. Josephine Skriver also does it and it just puts me off, no matter how pretty they are.
I agree about Gigi and Kendall, but Bella looks okay to me.
We’re forgetting Rosie Huntington Whitley and her beautiful face!!

Loved Rosie, Doutzen and Candice so much. Those were the best days of VS for me.
Doutzen is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen.
Agreed they are so blah. Remember when VS fashion show was fun? When models like Tyra had a smile and would ooze charisma on the runway. When Behati would saunter down the runway like she owned it? There are many more but the instamodels are just boring. They have no style, no personality, no oomph. They just lack the charisma that used to make the VS fashion show fun to watch

Gigi, Kendall and Bella have the bodies to be VS models. Long legs, long torso, they look fit and slender in the VS show. I don’t get the remarks about their faces. In my opinion all the models are beautiful in their own way.
Bella looks sad/confused in all of these pics. Gigi is the only one who looks like she’s enjoying herself. I saw some other pics from the show and Kendall’s lip injections are pretty obvious (I think she overfilled the lower lip).
Gigi looked great and is totally the VS model prototype…but then again Im a Gigi apologist so I love her in everything.

As for Bella (who I still cannot believe is younger than Gigi)….that one is the odd one out. I have no idea how much of her face is plastic (whereas with the other two, old photos are consistent with their current selves, weight loss aside). Bella is creepy, I get a strong vibe that she’s desperate to not be outdone by her older sister but it’s sad seeing her change her face completely. She looks like a wax figure in Madam Tussaud’s.
Agreed!!! Gigi looks right at home with VS, Kendall is fine, but Bella?? Her body proportion is weird, her face is not model-ly AT ALL, esp for VS, and why does she look at least 5 years older than Gigi and so emo all the time?

Ikr? It’s definitely designed for the male gaze. Can you imagine a primetime runway show of men in underwear with ridiculous costumes built around said underwear?? That said I don’t see why they shouldn’t use dead eyed, uncharistmatic, human mannequins. The whole production is a cynical exercise in pandering.
The Instamodels are all cute. But very meh. And The Weeknd/Bella thing was a PR relationship so there’s no reason they shouldn’t be friendly. The timing of the “break-up” with their very public reunion at the VS show screams publicity stunt. There’s a ton of articles about it on the internet right now. Mission accomplished. My only criticism of Celebitchy is that they play along rather than call it out.
I lump this in with beauty pageants. Something who’s time has come and gone.
Kendall actually has a great body shape! Though it begs the question – is it real? Or the product of a light BBL/surgical shaping? She’s a Kardashian, so I’m not putting it past her.
I agree that Gigi fits great for VS, she’s cute and bubbly. I wish she hadn’t given in to the fat shaming, her body was perfectly fine before!
I’m not 100% convinced by Bella yet.

also, i loved some of the colors and textures of the outfits but overall i felt bored with the picture-perfect bodies with the same hips, same waist, same boobs, same bums on every model.
I don’t think it’s Victora’s Secret’s ‘thing’ to go with curvier women or women with more unique or bolder shapes, but they should consider it. i felt bored looking at their models.
It used to be VS’s thing to go with curvier, shapely models instead of the stick thin runway model look. That’s what made Tyra and the other late 90s Angels so famous

Yep the VS models of the 90s were curvier which was a departure from the high fashion aesthetic. Its why Tyra switched to being a VS model at the time…she was done fighting genetics with her curves so she made a (smart) career change.

Tyra will always be their best angel. She had the body, she had the smile, and most importantly: she had the dragtastic campiness that’s so fitting for this ridiculous show. Today’s models are so boring. Girl, you’re dressed up as a sexualised Christmas tree. Have fun!

Gigi has lost so much weight, I think years ago she would have been great for this. She was rejected two years ago (before she got famous), so that just tells you how much vs just wants ratings from these models. Kendull has absolutely no sex appeal despite being a pretty girl, and really has no business being on the runaway, or really any run way. I’d be so annoyed if I was an actual model in this show and VS put all the attention on these try hards.

Gotta agree – Gigi is the only one that looks like she belongs…Bella looks incredibly uncomfortable and awkward (and also much older than she actually is?) – I think she may be suited a different kind of runway, but not a VS show.

See I love looking at all the ridiculous costumes. I’m not really sure what they’re trying to sell besides sex because you can’t buy most of this at VS or wear it ANYWHERE, but I really enjoy the crazy rainbow attire. Gigi looks great (yasssss those boots), though I miss her curves, which I’ve said before. Bella’s body is great, but dear god lady, work on showing some other emotion than scared, bored deer in the headlights. The internet was freaking about her “epic” “run in” with the weekend, but I’m like, that’s just the face she always makes?
The only lingerie costume I like here is the first shimmery gray one Bella is wearing in the top picture. It’s princessy. It’s hard to believe she’s only 19 or 20 though. I agree that Kendall has no sex appeal and just looks like an ordinary pretty girl who stumbled onto the runway.

Gigi’s looking too thin, especially for VS. It seems like she’s going for that Candice Swanepoel look, but she’s had to seriously dehydrate herself to get there and it shows.
Bella’s beautiful, but she suits high fashion editorial better. Kendall’s so bland, but she does have a great figure for VS. Unlike a lot of the other newcomers it didn’t look like she starved and water cycled to make weight, so that was nice.
I am really mad that they gave Kendall wings, but not to someone like Martha Hunt who promotes VS all year long.
DM posted a video of Kendall walking the runway and it was horrible. Looked like she was trying to get down the runway and back as quick as possible without running.
I thought Gigi was great, especially in the black outfit. Looks like she took the criticism on board and has worked to improve because both her editorials and walk have greatly improved. Much better than last year. Also she shed a ton of weight to fit better I guess.
As for Kendall, she’s pretty but not a good model and doesn’t look like she’s been trying to get better at it. I saw photos of her backstage without any make up at all and it didn’t look like she had anything done to her face; even her lips looked normal, so it could well be down to makeup.
Bella was ok.
Gigi was perfect for VS a couple of years ago, when she used to be super-fit, toned, with more weight on, great boobs and blonde hair. Now she has lost weight, she just doesn’t seem like she belongs anymore. She looks gaunt and miserable, and where did her great muscles go? Mind you, she is still beautiful, but more like a sad mannequin rather than a bubbly VS model. Bella.. I’m sorry, I don’t know if it’s the plastic surgery or the way she’s been styled, but she looked like a high-profile escort.
Kendall is just bland. I scrolled through pictures of her in the make-up room and she is flat-out basic. She can’t compare with the likes of Lima, Ambrosio, Irina, Lily, Joan or even Stella Maxwell.

Gigi looks a lot skinnier than before, but she looks like she was having a good time. Bella looked dead-eyed as usual, as well as confused. Kendull looks the same. Smh.
I still think it’s weird people are “fans” of models. It’s honestly super weird and gross to me. I like clothes. I like design. I’m not rating these people on their body parts or how they walk because why? Big butts or little butts and crooked teeth have nothing to do with my need for a sequin tuxedo or whatever.

The VS model definitely fits a specific kind of look and it just clicks. Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Helena Christiansen…. just all sexy. I don’t get that vibe from Bella and Kendall. They are better suited for other brands. IMO.

Of these 3, I’d have to say that Bella is my favorite – probably because (in my opinion) she has the most high-fashion look. Having grown up in the late 80s and early 90s, I sure do miss the “Trinity – I won’t get out of bed for less than $10k a day” days:
Naomi Campbell and her incomparable runway walk. Christy Turlington and her indescribably perfect face. And finally, Linda Evangelista and her amazing, chameleon-like ability to transform herself.

Kendall would be great for online work like Forever 21 or Asos, but I think she is out of place for this brand. She looks great though.
I loved Gigi when she had a few extra pounds. Hell, maybe even OUNCES, with how tiny she already was. I hope she isn’t being pressured to lose weight. She’s gorgeous either way. I think she would do better in the Pink side of VS.
