Tom Hiddleston is earnest: ‘I’ve always tried to be honest about who I am’

Kendall Jenner On A Night Out In London

Another Tom Hiddleston promotional tour is upon us, and it just makes me happy. I hope he debuts a new girlfriend to coincide with the promotion of Kong: Skull Island, even though I doubt anything will ever top The Glorious Tiddlebanging of 2016. Maybe if Tom and Taylor Swift got back together, that could possibly top it. But otherwise… no, he probably won’t debut a new girlfriend in the next few months. Oooh, maybe Jane Arthy will make another appearance!! Bless her. Anyway, Hiddle Piddle has some new junket interviews, the most notable of which is this Access Hollywood one where he asked flat-out about his interviews sometimes coming across as “too honest.” Some assorted quotes:

On being honest so publicly: “It’s interesting, you know… I’ve always tried to be honest about who I am. I’ve nothing to hide. But there is a balance you have to strike, I think, as anyone in the public eye would agree with me, yeah… so, it’s something I’m still learning.”

On Tom Hanks: “He’s committed so much… ah, to film and entertained so many people for so long and in so many different ways. If you think about his career, from Forrest Gump to Philadelphia or Big or Saving Private Ryan or Bridge of Spies or Sully and Toy Story, I just think he’s such a great actor.”

On Brie Larson’s Oscar season in 2016: “Every weekend, she won another one. It was amazing! She’s so spirited and she was so much fun on this.”

His worst job when he was struggling actor: “Waiting tables… you learn a lot about people from that job because some people are lovely and generous and kind and some people are not. And from that day, I always tip waiters and always be nice.”

[From Access Hollywood]

Re; Brie Larson… I get the feeling that they’re just friendly colleagues. Even if she didn’t have a boyfriend (which she does), I get the feeling that Brie and Tom just wouldn’t be compatible overall. I tend to think he goes for high-maintenance ladies? Like, that’s his thing. He likes it super-complicated. Brie is too easy-going. As for the rest of it… he’s a good tipper and he doesn’t have anything to hide. WE’LL SEE ABOUT THAT. Here’s the video:

I’ve got more videos for you too. Here’s Hiddles answering some Twitter questions (in the same maroon Junket Sweater).

And here’s a behind-the-scenes video from Tom’s GQ shoot where he’s trying out different accents. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this. I still don’t think he’s got the American accent quite down, but the Irish and Scottish accents sounded pretty good to me.

    I like his dorky earnestness.

  2. MI6 says:

The world (especially in its present sorry state) would be a better, nerdier place if more people were as earnest as our T Hiddy. Or Piddle. Whatever nickname he’s going by these days.

    • justme says:

I agree — good old Pid. I was thinking that whole Hiddle Piddle Etonian business. Isn’t there an old tradition of idiotic public school nicknames which linger on into adulthood – see Bertie Wooster and his chums – Bingo Little, Oofy Prosser and suchlike? Maybe such traditions still exist?

      • spidey says:

Listen to what the England cricket team call one another – grown men and it is Rooty, Cooky, Stokesy – and that is in public!

  3. Sixer says:

I think he should anthologise all this honesty. Tommy’s personal truths writ large in public. We shall call it.. um… um… um…

Ode to Ducks and Other Word Salads.

On an off-topic note: is it possible to eat too much fudge? Is there a Willy Wonka cautionary tale about what happens if you do?

  4. ell says:

CB, i love you and i’m here everyday, but is there really no other actor we could be talking about? mahershala ali is doing super interesting interviews and he’s oscar nominated. so is dev patel. even aaron taylor johnson has a bunch of good interviews. i know TH has a following around here, but really his posts don’t even make that many comments, unless me or someone else comments saying they don’t get his appeal, and his stans come to his rescue.

    more variety, please?

    • Sixer says:

We two could have a side bar in which we talk about Michaela Coel? Strictly not totty but I’d consider forsaking heterosexuality for her. And she wrote a great essay the other day in the Grauniad about Adele, Beyonce and the intersection of race and class.

      • ell says:

i love love love michaela coel. is she famous in the US? i read the essay, and loved it, and agreed with her very much. i also loved what adele did, i know she got some criticism for it, but i think it was coming from the right place. i think everyone should read michaela’s piece about it because she explains it so well, if anyone’s interested it’s on the guardian’s website.

in the UK atm we have both michaela coel and riz ahmed who are talking lots about diversity and their experiences within the industry and in life, and it’s really a discussion that needs to exist everywhere, but especially in the post-brexit britain we currently live in.

      • Sixer says:

I’m in the UK, silly! I love Chewing Gum and did you see the C4 show that was a bit like District 9 last year? She was great in that. Riz writes brilliantly and sometimes I feel comradeship with him – we were both born in working class areas of West London and got scholarships to private school. You should look out a book called The Good Immigrant, short stories edited by Nikesh Shukla. Riz’s essay in that is wonderful.

      • ell says:

oh, i know you’re in the UK, i was just wondering whether she’s known in the US as well. she should be, because she’s amazing. i loved chewing gum and the aliens as well, british telly is actually great at original content.

i haven’t got the book yet but i’m definitely planning to, i heard many good things about it.

      • Ayra. says:

@Ell, she’s becoming known in the US too, Chewing Gum is really picking up but it’s a slow process.

      • Bonzo says:

Chewing Gum was added to Netflix not too long ago, so her fanbase should expand.

    • kaiC says:

I could use some more Dev Patel around here!

      • guest says:

Can’t believe how he looked like in SKINS…..Damn fine actor. Loved him in LION. Btw, that movie should get way more attention than this so called great movie LA LA Land. Geez, Hollywood loves Hollywood.

      • ell says:

yes exactly. i watched la la land and it was cute and fluffy, but the likes of moonlight and lion should be way more talked about.

      • paolanqar says:

Dev Patel yes. Lion is an amazing film and it deserves to win everything it is nominated for.

      • Lightpurple says:

Honking for more Dev but don’t reduce the Tom coverage

      • Sixer says:

That’s lightpurple: wanting to have her lemon drizzle AND eat it. (No fudge left, sorry.)

      • Lightpurple says:

@Sixer, I need all the fudge and lemon drizzle I can get today as I’m in a car for a 3 hour ride across the state to do a trial that will last about 30 minutes at most, then 3 hour ride back to Boston. I conned some interns into driving me so they could experience the western part of the state. And it isn’t the stupidest case ever.

      • Sixer says:

SYMPATHIES. If I had any fudge left, I would give it to you. I have chocolate chip cookies?

      • Fiorella says:

Agree with light purple dev and TH are both the right kinda guys. I need to check out this riz guy that’s often mentioned here too…

      • Bonzo says:

Agree… after watching Lion and I was thinking “Damn, that boy turned out to be a first-rate hottie!”.

I like the Tom posts, even if I’m all snark. My CB pals like to hang out here.

    • Merry says:

+1 We have a good hottie selection this season, lets dive in.

    • Elisa the I. says:

      +1
      More Keanu Reeves, please.

      • SusanneToo says:

        Oh, yeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssss!!!!!

      • ell says:

oh yeah, isn’t he meant to be promoting the new john wick now?

      • Elisa the I. says:

Yes, he is! Can’t wait to see it. Reviews so far are pretty good (Imdb: 8,3 out of 10; 90% on Rotten Tomatoes). He is adorable!

      • SusanneToo says:

He’s been promoting it like crazy-USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy-and it’s already near the 100 million BO internationally. It’s a great follow-up to JW and it’s great to see Keanu own that role. Excuse the gushing, but Keanu’s the only guy I’ll go to EVERY movie for. And if you compare him to his 80’s contemporaries-Johnny, Tom, Brad-well, he’s the only one who’s not an embarrassment.

    • guest says:

Oh the reason is pretty easy: clicks, baby, clicks…… Have you ever checked out his news? Every time when I check his news there are 10 comments at first. And when I check again there are over 150 comments which are quite amusing. People mock him and I love Sixer for that. But in the end we all know that Hiddiot might be thirsty from time to time but he is not dangerous. And look, have you ever checked his CV when it comes to his relationships and his quotes about his private life? I always have to chuckle. Btw, I watched Keanu Reeves on the GNS (together with Whoopie) and I laughed so much. He will always be Ted for me.

      • third ginger says:

        Indeed, Keanu is eternal!!

      • SusanneToo says:

        Hehehe, pudenda,😂😂😂😂😂😂

      • Sixer says:

He needs to do something ridiculous soon because I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel, mock-wise. He’s letting me down.

      • Lightpurple says:

@Sixer, there’s some event soon at the wax museum with the Kong head and a replica of Tom as his character. I suspect that will give you some new joy

      • Sixer says:

He’s bound to say something about maiden tropes when promoting Kong, isn’t he? I won’t be satisfied with anything less than a full rendition of the Lady of Shallot.

      • Lightpurple says:

Lady of Shallot recited to a giant ape head.

Hearing lasted all of five minutes. FIVE minutes. And that included time for the employee to whine that her work nemesis wasn’t there. *you didn’t sue her, you sued your employer and you don’t get her, you get me. And I don’t lose. And next time you want to claim gender discrimination, accuse someone of a differed gender!*

I need all the lemon drizzle, a bag of fudge, and a pitcher of mai tais for this ride back to the office.

      • Sixer says:

I’m onto the savouries now but you can share various vegetables in cheese sauce if you like? Mr Sixer made onion bread.

      • Lightpurple says:

@Sixer,cheese sauce with some very crispy chips. Some of which I may need to stick in my ears because one of the interns is spending the trip telling me he thinks I should be more aggressive at trial. I just won. I pretty much always win. And I’m respectful and nice, no drama. But intern thinks I need to be more dramatic and aggressive. More mai tais!

    • third ginger says:

Ell, I love tom, but you are right. Ben Wishaw, anyone?

    • WTF says:

THIS PLEASE!!!! How hooked on this dork are they? Waste of attention

    • Kitten says:

YES. Just listened to Mahershala Ali on Fresh Air last night. Love!!!

      • ell says:

me too, haha! he has so many interesting things to say, and then i come here to read the umpteenth interview of hiddleston saying nothing, so i was like… nope 🙁

  5. lightpurple says:

Tropical drinks are served on the veranda for Kong. Along with Hawaiian and Vietnamese food for the film shoot.

    • M.A.F. says:

I have some Hawaiian Moonshine if anyone is interested. Might have to offer that in the political threads as well.

And waiting tables Tom? I somehow do not by that. Too cliche.

      • Cranberry says:

He didn’t wait tables to make a living, but he’s said before that he waited tables at a summer(s) festival his mother organized. I believe it was during his university years or maybe earlier. I don’t think he would have had time at RADA, but if he did work a random shift or two it would have been for character study, observing mannerisms, etc. not for $. Even though his parents would not pay for RADA, he said he made enough $ to cover it with the acting jobs and commercials he did when he was at Cambridge.

  6. Merry says:

I dont think he goes for complicated girls. Neither Elizabeth Olsen or that professor seem complicated at all. I think he goes for nurturing women. I think he is extremely hyper sensensitive and emotionally needy as that GQ writer discovered. I also think this is one of the reasons he was drawn to Taylor. Clique heads ability to recruit new clique members relies on seeming self assured but also nurturing. Of course once they have you it becomes clear that it was always about them.

    • Becky says:

If you look st his gf’s before he became well known, they are very smart, confident women. Since then it looks to me like any involvements have been career motivated, and I don’t think he’s been going for the same type.

      • Merry says:

I’m no Hiddleston expert but hasnt his only known Hollywood involvements been Elizabeth and Taylor? The Elizabeth one was pretty low key too. I dont think there was ever a confirmation or even a red carpet. Just camera phone shots from awkward angles. I definitely agree one of his attractions to Taylor was the increased profile though. And boy did he milk it.

      • Becky says:

Merry, except Kat Dennings, but he also dated 2 British actresses(Gwen Christie and Susannah Fielding).

With Olsen there were gossip stories dropped, then this bizarre pap outing (which looked bad with Lizzie holding a bag over her face for most of the pics), then suddenly they went under the radar again.

So they did publicise it, nothing on the scale of the Hiddlestunt though.

    • LA Elle (formerly Elle R.) says:

Weren’t there rumors that he and Kat Dennings were an item around the filming of the first Thor?

  7. Amelia says:

Omgosh, his American accent sounds just like Matt Damon! Listen to it again lol

  8. Beer&Crumpets says:

Eh, I like his silly ass. I thought his American accent was pretty okay, but that might be because when he did it, he didn’t do SOUTHERN American, which is what I hear all day erry day. So anything that’s not that sounds like something learned from a dialect coach.

I gotta get out more, y’all.

  9. Margo S. says:

I’m starting to like hiddleson more and more. He’s so funny.

    • Lightpurple says:

      He grows on you.

      • Secret squirrel says:

        Like mould on cheese

(Which of course improves in taste as it matures but still needs some crackers for a full rounded experience!).

No wonder he likes “Brie” Larson so much!

      • spidey says:

@ Secret Squirrel – tee hee. Have you tried Cambozola? Delicious – which reminds me I have some in the ‘fridge, will have some with cream crackers later.

      • Cranberry says:

@Secret squirrel – And if there’s a little (or a lot !) of mold on the cheese, you just cut off the bad part, and it’s all good again. Just continue as usual and eat to your hearts content. 🙂

  10. squeezeo'lime says:

BULLS*T to him waiting tables for a living. He never had to work a second job to keep acting so he feels compelled to make things it up when asked questions like this. He lived in a studio flat in zone 1 when he was a “struggling actor” and had bought his own apartment by the time he was cast in Thor. Too honest my ass.

    • spidey says:

He did work tables at a opera festival went he was still at school. I suppose he could just have spent his hols lazing about. He said he couldn’t believe how rude people were so always tries to be polite to people serving him.

Perhaps he meant struggling for work rather than money?

      • M.A.F. says:

I recall him saying that before but he also made it sound as if he did that once and it was only because of his mother.

      • spidey says:

You are right M.A.F. it would have been at one of the festivals she was involved in organising, but it doesn’t mean he didn’t get roped in or that he was lying about waiting tables.

      • M.A.F. says:

@ spidey- this is true but the way it was originally presented-by him- it came across as being an one-off type gig. I highly doubt he waited tables that beyond that one day, which it now seems he is trying to pass off.

      • squeezeo'lime says:

        @M.A.F. my feelings exactly

      • Cranberry says:

I haven’t watched the video yet, but I know he mentioned before about waitering at his mother’s festivals and having a bad experience with a rude customer. Maybe it was just one time or the one day he always refers to as his main negative experience and why he always says (when asked) that waiting is one of the most thankless professions.
As I said above, Tom’s never been a “struggling actor” that had to work between acting jobs, but he did earn enough to pay for RADA from the $ he made taking small acting jobs and commercials while he was at university.

    • Sixer says:

Nearest I ever got to Zone 1 was Chiswick!

      • Merry says:

Whats zone 1? Guessing the area either closest or farthest from Londons center or an area next to one of the palaces.

      • Sixer says:

It refers to Transport for London’s travel card zones. And yes, zone 1 is central London – the City and the West End, basically (mostly everything on the Circle Line).

I suppose the NY equivalent to squeezeo’s Zone 1 remark would be that his starter flat was in Manhattan – ie ridiculously expensive.

      • Becky says:

Merry, yes basically central London area, based on the Underground/Tube zones.

    • Becky says:

He also worked as a tutor when studying at RADA apparently. I think the point is he’s been given a strong work ethic by his parents, including working as a waiter one summer (that was the opera festival I think). He’s never said he struggled financially. Would it be better if he’d done sod all?

And I remember reading somewhere that his 1st flat was in Kentish Town (zone 2).

    • Lightpurple says:

He never said he did it for a living. He worked the Aldeburg festival and his point was about how badly people treat service people. He has told the story before

    • LA Elle (formerly Elle R.) says:

I’m not going to fault him for working even if he didn’t need the money. The people I know who had to work a minimum-wage, not-so-glamorous job in their teens and early twenties tend to be slightly more clued in to reality (and nicer to wait staff and store employees).

I’m going to also add a story: At the start of my freshman year of college, a group of girls all went to a nearby mall. We were all comfortably middle class, and all of us – with the exception of one girl – had worked service jobs in high school. She treated the store employees HORRIBLY and explained it as ‘well, that’s their job.’

Needless to say, all of us avoided going shopping with her after that. You don’t treat people like that! Treating people horribly is never part of a job description!

      • spidey says:

Totally agree LA Elle, whatever some’s job is they are still people. And we would miss the street cleaners, etc. far sooner than we would miss the high fliers of this world.
The only time I might be slightly less than polite to waiting/serving staff would be if they were rude, unhelpful or patronising to me first.

    • theHord says:

“struggling actor” were not his words. It was used as a clear figure of speech by the interviewer. Besides, that doesn’t take away from his original point: that waiting tables can be a difficult job, because some people are rude.

      Go figure…

  11. yiza says:

    omg lovely. (swoons)

  12. Beth says:

I love honest guys. Keeping nothing hidden is so important. He seems so sweet and is so cute. Definitely would be a keeper

    • Merry says:

Its funny because I know this is the type of guy I should look for, guys who hash out their innermost with the drop of a hat but I’m always repulsed by it irl. I like my men mysterious and above it all but boy is it a dangerous gamble.

  13. seesittellsit says:

Not quite totally honest, Tommy boy. Not after the Summer of Swift.

    • Uh-huh says:

      lol. Yeah. Oops! 😀

Seriously I hope it will be forgotten about. He’s an engaging man in interviews. He should concentrate on using his own talents and gifts to promote himself, not dubious hook-ups with other celebrities.

  14. Chef Grace says:

I enjoyed watching these interviews. Hiddles did not come across as a leg humping piddle puddle puppy. More like a 1 year old good doggie who has learned not to hump or piddle in public.
He gets a biscuit for his well behaved self, yes he does, yes he does, good boy!
seriously, I did enjoy the above interviews and his hair looks so nice. Looks like he is relaxed and enjoying himself.
    🙂

  15. virginfangirl2 says:

In past interviews, the person interviewing him will speak of some long days of shooting or a scene that would be cause to complain, but Tom will then mention a scene that was fun, or how he had the opportunity to learn some new skill, so he seems to be the type that looks at the glass half full. We all need to be around those type of people sometimes.

    • LA Elle (formerly Elle R.) says:

Agreed! I’m increasingly over cynicism as somehow ‘cool’ – it is exhausting being around negative people.

I think that’s why I have a soft spot for Hiddleston, extra though he may be.

  16. third ginger says:

Because Hiddleston talks [and keeps talking] there will always be divided opinions about him. The best description of him is “extra” which I had to look up. I am more than a little extra myself and paired in life with a wonderful man who has nothing but “chill” Sadly, he has many health issues and is notorious for not letting nurses know when he’s in pain. This is all to say that I might see a kindred spirit in young Tom.
I also really enjoy his work. I urge CBers to check out ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE.

    • virginfangirl2 says:

      That’s my favorite Tom movie.

      • jetlagged says:

Me too! The Hollow Crown deserves an honorable mention, but since it’s not exactly a film I put it in its own special category.

    • spidey says:

Yes, I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed OLLA.

Such a shame that we have lost both Anton Yeltsin (so young) and John Hurt.

      • Lightpurple says:

Seven people in that film and two are gone.

      • Nanny to the Rescue ( ex-Crox) says:

        [Spoiler alert]

And they both died in the film, Anton in a freaky accident (bitten by a vampire who wasn’t completely planning it/in real life in a very strange car accident) and John from illness (bad blood/in real life cancer). Some prophetic stuff right over there. Does that mean Hiddleston and Swinton will live forever? I mean, look at Tilda, she’s definitely going there!
        *Twilight Zone Theme Song*

(I accidently wrote Swift instead of Swinton. Commenting on CB is taking its toll on me.) 😀

      • spidey says:

        Oh, that is spooky!

      • cluedo says:

@ Nanny to the Rescue – love the change of name. Very tongue in cheek. 😉

  17. virginfangirl2 says:

Tom’s in Milan right now for a fashion show, looking fine in his Gucci suite BTW.

  18. LA Elle (formerly Elle R.) says:

So I made a comment a couple of weeks ago about how Hiddleston is smart to always treat reporters with respect. Given what’s going on in American politics at present, I’ve been thinking about how way too many actors view being rude or short with the press (or blaming them when convenient) is on the same spectrum of Trump’s “the media is the enemy” spiel.

Say what you will about other parts of Tom’s PR strategy, but I think more actors should take a page from his book of treating reporters like people who are simply trying to do their job.

    • third ginger says:

It certainly comes in handy when promoting a movie. I think it’s smart, too. I have alluded to this before, but whatever reputation TH has in gossip world, he is well like by what used to be called the “trade papers”. VARIETY, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, ETC.

      • LA Elle (formerly Elle R.) says:

I remember your comments about that – and I agree with you.

At the end of the day, Hollywood is like any other industry: people want to work with people who do their jobs and are generally pleasant to be around. They’ll put up with idiots but only so long as those idiots make money.

    • jetlagged says:

To some extent, I think his win at the Golden Globes was influenced by this very attitude. I’m guessing that a lot of the HFPA voters are reporters who see firsthand how various celebs treat the working press, the ones that go to junket after junket and don’t get a) much respect or b) much quality time with their interview subjects. If a celeb remembers them from a previous interview, or gives them something unique in their 8-10 minutes of allotted time, it makes their job that much easier.

  19. jerkface says:

He is that guy that did that thing one time right?

    • Secret squirrel says:

No silly! You are thinking of someone else! Tom was the guy that did that other thing.

      • jerkface says:

Oh yeah. You’re right. He did that stuff that i confused with the things that one dude did. That other guy was the guy who didn’t do that thing after people started talking about how good this guys stuff doing was. 🙂

      • Bonzo says:

        *snort*

  20. Alexandria says:

Is it possible that Tom and Taylor are the types of celebs or people who don’t feel like hiding their lives, disguising themselves and just go with it? And they don’t care if they go to high or low profile places? Maybe they’re grateful for the attention after struggling so they choose to see the positive instead? I don’t know, just putting it out there. Shrug.

    • jerkface says:

Taylor never ever struggled. Not once. Was born to wealthy parents in the finance industry. Not saying you shouldn’t like her but the “struggle” is a farce.

      • Alexandria says:

Hi Jerkface, agreed. Yes, Taylor did have wealthy parents but even being wealthy and having connections does not guarantee success and longevity. Even decent singers struggle to reach the A list status. I rarely hear Taylor treat the press badly nor show open disdain. I’m sure it happens when she’s having a bad day but she and Tom seem to see the positive side (partly cos maybe both are really ambitious or for some, hungry). Sometimes they make me cringe of course but overall I find them pleasant and harmless.

  21. mikajoe says:

nice job. can’t wait for the movie

  22. mikajoe says:

@alexandria good point. I agree with you.

  23. koko says:

I saw JArthy and dared to hope for one second. Time back then was so much simpler. It was just a tennis match, just a card shop, just a plane trip to paradise. Good Times.
In addition, I happen to love that shade of maroon/cranberry etc..

    • Bonzo says:

Don’t forget the smirk in Bora Bora that said “Still doin’ yer man, b!tches!”.

I love her best for that virtual two-finger salute to the nannies.

I loved how she intentionally (I think) trolled fans by liking or following things that she knew would send her hardcore twitter stalkers into a frenzy – the wedding ring designer was my personal favorite. For as much crap as she endured from them, they deserved everything they got. Besides, she took that fantastic vacation photo of TH, complete with sunburn and beach+sex hair. How can you not appreciate the woman that gave us that masterpiece? *raises glass in JArthy’s general direction*

      • Sixer says:

        JArthy was EVERYTHING.

      • Becky says:

She was never going to be a gf, her obvious goal, with all that trolling.

ETA: a friend of mine has seen Jarthy out in Hampstead, and said she’s really loud and attention-seeking. They said she’s one of those people who love the sound of their own voice.

That ‘accent’ vid was funny, and I do like that he takes so much pleasure in performing, but also, those accents were very hit and miss, particularly the Irish and Scottish ones.

Has he ever done anything that required an accent?

Speaking as a working class Londoner his “cockney” is pretty crap…But that goes for most actors and actresses.

I don’t care though as I could look at him all day, and would happily lick his pretty face.

His suit game is so strong in those Milan pics.

Can’t be worse than Dick van Dyke’s in Mary Poppins. 🙂

      • shelly says:

Dick Van Dyke transcends accent badness….He truly invented a new accent in Mary Poppins..It will never be equalled…

Indoors when someone is overdoing the mockney we actually say “He’s gone the full DVD”

Ok, look at Tom at the Gucci fashion show, then look at Jared Leto, who is also a Gucci representative. Now look back at Tom.

This, THIS is why I love Tom. This is why I find it a shame that “try-hard” is used as a negative adjective. Because look at the difference in the level of giving a f*ck. Maybe they were instructed to show up in vastly different looks; maybe Tom was told to dress impeccably in a blindingly gorgeous bespoke 3-piece suit with a lining to die for, while Jared was asked to go for more of the “just-rolled-out-of-bed-reeking-of-Cool-Ranch-Doritos-and-weed” aesthetic. But I find that unlikely.

The last few months have given me a grudging admiration for Hiddles. Despite heaping piles of Internet scorn, our Tommy still puts on his best maroon sweater and answers half-assed question from C-list entertainment reporters with meta-detailed word salads. A lesser man would have fled to a remote island by now.

    • spidey says:

@ Mildred – glad I’m not the only one who thinks like that. Whether it be actors or sportspeople, they get asked the same (often really silly) questions over and over again, and people wonder why they give the same answers over and over again.

    • Cranberry says:

Yes to this. I know all actors big and small go through this repetitive nonsense circus when comes time to promote their movies. And most of the time we only see one or two of the many, many junket videos actually done when you count all the smaller media, internet and international journalist too. It’s crazy. I remember watching a full days run of press junket vids Jamie Bell was doing for Man on a Ledge. He was funny and engaging for most, but on a few you could see he was ready to jump out of his skin at a couple points when they were letting the cameras roll.
