Princess Di’s ex James Hewitt is discussing Prince Harry’s paternity again

James Hewitt

What was once a mild speculation about Prince Harry’s paternity has turned into something rather gross. Like, when Princess Diana was alive and admitting in a television interview that she had an affair with Captain James Hewitt, most people were shocked and sympathetic. But after her death, the story took a turn. It was mostly because James Hewitt is a dumb famewhore whose one claim to fame was his affair with Diana, and now he pops up every few years to talk about whether he’s Prince Harry’s father. For some of us who are long-time royal watchers, we know the timeline. We know that Hewitt and Diana’s affair happened after she gave birth to Harry. We also know that while Harry and James Hewitt have the same red hair, Harry’s ginger coloring likely comes from the Spencer side of the family. Anyway, James Hewitt has decided to chime in once again.

Putting that rumor to rest. Princess Diana’s former lover James Hewitt opened up about longstanding rumors that he’s Prince Harry’s real dad in a new interview, denying the claims outright.

“Are you Harry’s father?” Australia’s Sunday Night host Melissa Doyle asked Hewitt, now 58, point blank.

“No, I’m not,” he replied in the interview that aired on Sunday, March 12. Asked why he thought the rumors of Harry’s paternity have persisted over the years, the former tank commander responded, “It sells papers. It’s worse for [Harry], probably, poor chap.”

Hewitt and the late Princess Diana met in 1986 when he was brought on as her riding instructor. (Two years after Prince Harry was born.) Around that same time, Diana’s husband, Prince Charles, was rumored to have been seeing his former flame — and current wife — Camilla Parker-Bowles.

“It’s a gradual period and then, you know, suddenly you can’t get enough of each other or see each other as much as you want,” Hewitt says of his whirlwind affair with the princess. He added that he wanted to “whisk her away” from the spotlight. The couple had a low-key relationship, and Hewitt recalled some of those times during the interview. “Well, I’d cook and she’d wash up,” he said. “Just dinner and relaxing and laughing.” He added that he and Diana also enjoyed walks along the beach.

The pair ended their affair when Hewitt was deployed to serve in the Gulf War and their relationship was exposed by the press. Sunday Night also spoke with Diana’s bodyguard Ken Wharfe, who said he often slept on a camp bed in a hallway outside the bedroom when Diana and Hewitt spent time together.

“It was pretty obvious what was happening,” Wharfe said, adding that “it wasn’t for me to moralize on this.”

[From Us Weekly]

The last time I wrote about Hewitt and this speculation was 2014, and I said much the same thing: that Harry took after the Spencer side of the family and when you really look at the photos, you can see that Harry and Hewitt really don’t look anything alike beyond the red hair. Some of you said that as Harry gets older, he looks more and more like Prince Charles. Yeah… I’m still not there. I don’t really see that. Now, to me, William absolutely looks like a Windsor man as he gets older. William’s youth was all-Spencer, but past the age of 25/26, those Windsor genes kicked in like a motherf–ker. Anyway… yeah, I believe Harry is a Windsor too, genetically speaking. I just think he takes after the Spencer side.

He’s always talking about it when he needs money.

    • Olenna says:

If this is the case, he should feel ashamed. I’m not a great fan of PH but, damn, continuing to bring up this rumor is just cruel and unnecessary.

    • MMRB says:

and don’t think the firm hasn’t had a dna test done LONNNNGGG ago already…

    • lavnbb says:

I always felt it was a mistake for Diana to even mention him publicly in that TV interview. I know she was just lonely and needed love, but he is such a cad and that interview just put it out there for everyone to know she slept w him.

  2. AfricanBoy says:

He looks like Charles (just with red hair), especially on this cover. Jmo

    • pf says:

Also Harry resembles his grandfather Prince Philip when he was younger. Google it.

    • Eleonor says:

      He has Charles eyes shape.
      And smile.

    • Anitas says:

I think he looks more like Charles than William does. William has a weird combination of Diana’s eyes and Windsor’s rest of the face.

    • lavnbb says:

I always felt that Hewitt looked like Charles with red hair. I always wondered if that’s why Diana was attracted to Hewitt.

I wish the press would stop these stories they are insane. It was the reporter who asked Hewitt about it, he didn’t bring it up. He should just not respond when they ask.

    • imqrious2 says:

Actually, if you look at this pic of a young Phillip, Harry is his doppelganger: http://www.today.com/popculture/prince-philip-looks-grandson-prince-harry-1957-photo-t104389

    • Joy says:

      Exactly!

    • SKF says:

He looks just like a young Quern Mary, red hair and all with a few aspects of a young Prince Phillip. There were many red heads in both the Windsor and Spencer families.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

To me, Harry looks like a Mountbatten (which Charles has bits of, especially around the eyes), with Spencer colouring. He also has the similar lips to his mother, whereas William’s are very Windsor (you can see his look like Cousin Peter’s).

Here’s hoping I can get this to work – This link? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/196399233730663256/

Look at the Duke of Edinburgh compared with Harry. Same close eyes, same brow, same chin, same jawline, same ears. They even have the same Chiclet -shaped teeth. How on earth could Harry possess so much likeness to his grandfather, if Phillip were not truly his grandsire?

Hewitt is a famewhore and needs to be taken to court for defamation. If he got his arse slapped with a court subpoena every time he tried to make money off his ancient affair, he’d probably give up on tormenting Prince Hot Ginge in the tabloids as a source of revenue. It would also make the tabloids think twice about entertaining the ravings of this egotistical f-cknard.

  3. minx says:

Yes, Harry looks like a Spencer, all right, but IMO he’s Charles’ son.

    • Wendy M says:

I agree. When I look at Harry, I always see a resemblance to Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer. If you Google pics of Harry & Charles Spencer – there is no mistaking it.

  4. Cluedo says:

    A cad

  5. Becky says:

I thought it was proven that Di met him when she was pregnant with Harry, or after he was born?

    • MunichGirl says:

I read that she met him after she had Harry.

    • Secret squirrel says:

Come on now Becky, don’t let facts get in the way of a good story…

    • spidey says:

Hey, I’m the sensible one on here. 😆

    • lavnbb says:

The problem is Hewitt, one night ON TV under hypnosis, he said he met Diana way before Harry was born and then it got the press going again. He’s impossible. He never shuts it down totally.

  6. Merritt says:

James Hewitt is thirsty and pathetic.

Prince Harry looks like a combination of Prince Charles and Earl Spencer.

    • Citresse says:

I think he also resembles his aunt Sarah.

      • Maria says:

And also her son George. But you can see the young Charles in Harry’s expressions. And when he was 18 or so, he seemed to resemble George the sixth when he was that age. Can’t stand James Hewitt.

      • Jess says:

Harry totally takes after the Spencer side. And I love what Kaiser wrote about Will and those Spencer genes kicking in. So true! He was so hot and now he’s so not (of course, the lazy, entitled personality doesn’t help that either).

    • Lady D says:

Someone posted a picture of Prince Phillip in his youth with a red beard. He looked identical to Harry.

      • pf says:

Yep, I just posted that above. As much as Harry might have Spencer genes, one can’t deny that he also looks a lot like his grandfather, Prince Philip, when he was a young man.

  7. Nev says:

From the eyes down Harry looks like Prince Charles. Same features.

    • Alix says:

Absolutely, Harry is a Windsor. With jut enough Spencer in him (including the red hair) to keep him good-looking.

So true about Will, though — those Windsor genes kicked in like a mofo. When he was 21, he was GORGEOUS. Possibly because he wasn’t such a d-ck back then, too…

      • Christin says:

Love Actually (2003 movie) has the line about going to England to possibly marry William. I wonder if younger viewers seem puzzled by that reference now, as those heartthrob days are long gone.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

The thing I notice: a lot of people are saying that William’s “Windsor genes” are kicking in as he ages.

I think he’s still got the Spencer – yeah, he’s got a Windsor mouth, but the potato head is Spencer.

Look at the late Earl Spencer, Wm. and Harry’s grandfather:

        https://www.pinterest.com/pin/373095150361220011/
        Total potato head.

It’s interesting – when Harry is looking still and solemn, you can see the Mountbatten genes clearly. But when he’s animated and chatty, he looks more like his Spencer grandfather! Look at this last link – the nose. That’s where Harry got that nose from. And the mouth/facial expressions. Mountbatten gave him a stoic look, but Spencer genes made that face humane, companionable.

William looks Spencer/Windsor; Harry is Spencer/Mountbatten. And Beatrice is the ginger reincarnation of Queen Victoria. 😉

    • JennaR says:

Yes! I was just thinking that they have the same eyes. Not even looking at the color, the eyes are the same size and shape.

  8. Psu Doh Nihm says:

You can really see where Harry looks like Charles in that last picture. Great image choice Kaiser!

  9. Citresse says:

Him and Burrell need to disappear. It’s no coincidence they’ve surfaced now 20 years since Diana died.

    • Becky says:

      Burrell is attention-seeking idiot.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I was just thinking what was the name of the third d*ck who made money off of her? Yeah, him. It’s like she was surrounded by classless morons. Please tell me Khan has never given an interview.

      • Sharon Lea says:

haha I am with you Littlemissnaughty. Hasnat was the only one with class. I don’t know that he ever gave an interview, but there is a book about their relationship, the author spoke to his family “Her Last Love” by Kate Snell. It was made into a movie, which I didn’t see. I thought the book was good, seemed well sourced, but not sure Hasnat liked it?

    • Sharon Lea says:

That is what bugged me, both Hewitt and Burrell are doing press right now?!? Ugh. I can’t stand it. Hewitt was AWFUL to Diana. Dude, go away.

  10. Anatha says:

Harry looks like his grandfather Prince Philip. They could be twins. Red hair and everything.

    • Nic919 says:

This is the photo I thought of when I saw this headline. He looks exactly like Prince Philip here. No questions he is Charles’ kid.

    • TheOtherOne says:

      He surely does!

      • peanutbuttr says:

I always thought Harry looked like Philip.

Plus, there are ginger genes in the Royal family. Henry VIII was one.

      • Cee says:

A ginger person usually carries the gene on both sides of the family in order for the recessive gene to be “strong”. This is also why Beatrice is ginger – both her mum and dad carry the gene.

      • spidey says:

@ peanutbuttr – I think going back to Henry VIII is stretching it a bit!!

      • pf says:

I thought I read somewhere the Queen Mum was actually descended from Mary, Henry VIII’s sister. I know it’s 500 years ago but still…

      • notasugarhere says:

Harry also looks like a young Queen Mary (of Teck), who was a redhead. Ginger genes on both the Windsor and Spencer sides.

      • LAK says:

Spiderpig: Actually red has been the dominant gene in the royal family going as far back as the normans. William 2 was better known by his nickname of William Rufus on account of his red hair, and we know from portraits thst Geoffrey Plantagenet, father of Henry 2 was a redhead.

Most of the portraits of the various royal family members across the centuries show red hair repeated across generations and only occassionally skipped. The Tudors were infamously red haired, but so were the Plantagenets and the Hanovarians. It’s harder to access with the Stuarts because they shaved their hair and wore wigs.

In the last 100yrs, we know that Queen Mary was a red head, but the public appear to have forgotten about the red gene in the BRF and ascribe Harry AND Beatrice’s red genes to their mothers’ side of the family.

    • Chaine says:

Wow, amazing, never saw Phillip with a beard, they’re identical.

    • C-Shell says:

WOW! I’ve never seen that photo of Phillip. Even their TEETH are the same! Harry could do far worse in the superficial looks department. Thank God he has more of his mother’s EQ.

    • Char says:

Wow! I’ve never seen that photo comparison, he really does look like Prince Phillip!

    • Whaaaaaaatttt? says:

      Identical!!

  11. Claudia Remm says:

Harry looks very much like his mother. Teeth and smile. The second child is in most cases a copy fo the mother.

    • Ella says:

That’s a myth, Claudia. There’s no genetic basis for the idea that second children resemble their mother more.

    • Michelle says:

Well, my second child is the spitting image of my husband and my third looks exactly like me (my first is a better mix), so I question that theory.

  12. Pedro45 says:

Is he wearing a track suit? Lol.

  13. paolanqar says:

Considering nor Harry or the RF will ever agree to a DNA test, it’s fairly safe to say that Harry looks a lot like Philip.

    • Elizabeth says:

I suspect they may have had one when he was younger – there’s just no reason to discuss it publicly.

      • denise says:

Do you think Philip and Diana had a affair. What if Harry father is his grandfather. IDK.

  14. Cherise says:

Does it even matter? What are the Windsors going to do about it? Disown the most popular scion of their out of touch mooching clan? Is Harry suddenly going to want a relationship with the stranger who is tarnishing his mums name? Who. Cares?

    • Ella says:

Nobody’s suggesting that the Royal Family is going to do anything about it, but I think Harry probably cares, and Charles. It must be pretty hurtful to have everybody speculating, especially when Diana died under tragic circumstances.

  15. Allyson says:

Harry looks like both of his grandfather’s and THANK GOD because Phillip was more appealing than Charles in his youth…Mix Diana’s father with Phillip and there’s Harry! Nobody has eyes that close for the fun of it,that’s a rare Windsor gene.

  16. QQ says:

This old thirsty burnt red tacky f*ck.. Come ON SIR!, this is gross old and tired

  17. Cee says:

He’s all Spencer in colouring but takes after Phillip (Google photos of him as a young man and you’ll see it). I can also see some similarities to his Spencer cousins (all of them, especially those by his maternal aunts). He’s starting to look a bit like Charles minus the ears.

  18. cailindana says:

Go away James Hewitt. You’re 15 minutes of fame is well up!

  19. jc126 says:

Harry looks like a handsome Charles with a personality. Totally.

  20. Montréalaise says:

Diana certainly had terrible taste in men – it seem as though the doctor, Hasnat Khan, was the only one of her lovers who had actually had class.

    • notasugarhere says:

It is disturbing that she pursued a relationship with Hewitt, who looks a lot like her father Johnny Spencer when he was young.

  21. spidey says:

You can bet your bottom $ that the RF know Harry is Charles’s son because they either know the timeline proves it or they have had a DNA test done privately. Either way, Charles has been just as good a father to him as he has to William. So I very much doubt there is a cuckoo in the nest.

  22. Hermy says:

Harry looks just like his grandfather, Prince Philip. I don’t have sympathy over his affair with Diana, she was a manipulative and cunning women who knew exactly what she was doing, as did Charles. They should never have been married but I also disagree with this whitewashing of the kind of woman Diana was- yes she did lots of charity work but she wasn’t a complete angel.

  23. KBeth says:

    Really tasteless.

  24. Rose says:

Iam from. Republic of Ireland I’ve done my history on Harry go back to the Spencer’s Harry is like them trust me DNA tested let Diana lest in rip and stop brining this shit up have some respect for her son’s

    • LAK says:

I don’t think anyone doubts that Harry is a Spencer. It’s whether he is a Windsor that was cast in doubt by malicious gossip aided by this vile man.

  25. Jaana says:

Harry looks just like Prince Phillip.

  26. ToasterKid says:

Don’t forget Diana and Charles are related to each other as well. The royalty is inbred. He looks like Diana and Charles because he gets their genes from his mother’s side even if Charles is his father or not.

  27. Winnie Cornish says:

Please stop the wondering and leave Diana to rest in peace. What is wrong with people grow up and stop all the speculation. Amen

  28. Veronica says:

My feelings, put bluntly: Even if it’s true he was the sperm donor, he wasn’t the one who raised Harry, so the argument is null. Charles is his father in every way that matters.
