Donald Trump mocks journalist, says the tax-return story is ‘fake news’

Emperor Baby Fists is very angry about Rachel Maddow’s exclusive last night, even though liberals and progressives were disappointed by Maddow’s reporting on Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns. I actually feel a little bit sorry for Maddow – she’s been on the Trump beat for a year and a half now, and she’s focused on the right things: Trump’s taxes, his financial and political ties to Russia, how everything is interconnected in a very shady conspiracy. Pieces of the conspiracy keep getting confirmed too, so she should definitely stay on it (which she will). She just needs to avoid overhyping the whole “I HAVE TRUMP’S TAX RETURNS” thing.

Anyway, as I said, Baby Fists is mad. He got up bright and early this morning to tweet about Maddow and journalist David Cay Johnston. For whatever record, Johnston has been focused on Trump’s taxes for a while. Johnston even interviewed Trump about his taxes years ago, and Johnston’s background is in tax code and reporting on the tax code, which sounds like one of the most thankless jobs in the world. This is what Trump tweeted this morning:

As I said, people know and respect David Cay Johnston. He’s a Pulitzer-Prize-winning reporter. Second of all… is Baby Fists saying that it’s “fake news” to say he paid his taxes in 2005??? Is he saying it’s fake news that he loves to “leak” information about himself, because he’s a malignant narcissist and he has the attention span of a 4-year-old on a sugar high? Then again, I also have my doubts about whether Trump sent these – or had these returns sent – to any reporter. Because now we’re just talking about why he didn’t release his tax returns again.

Vox did a good analysis piece on what Trump is hiding in his tax returns. Meanwhile, Politico reports that White House staffers are increasingly scared, paranoid and squirrelly. We’re not even 60 days into this administration.

Thanks for confirming it for us, Donald. Anything he calls fake news has something to it. This proves that he’s been intentionally hiding his finances.

And I’m glad he’s pissed, but seriously? Is he calling his own tax returns fake news? Are they forged? He’s so f*cking stupid. No sleep til impeachment.

    • mary mary says:

Conspiracy theory#1: He loves to leak information about himself. He probably leaked his 12 year old tax returns to distract the media away from his “health care” plans and Russia ties. Keep the media distracted and call it “fake news”.

Every president since Nixon has released their tax returns. Why not Trump? Tax returns of 12 years ago. Why not 2016?

      • Linny says:

Okay, so you got his tax returns, AND? …what is the story, please enlighten me? While you all focus on Taxes and Russia the Trump administration has focused on jobs, Healthcare and arresting Human sex slave and Trafficking pedophiles , over 150 arrests so far and 2000 humans freed from a life of hell. What have you done lately to save a human life or improve the quality of our economy?

      • Shambles says:

Lmao. Welcome to the thread, Kellyanne. The Trump team is shook. Apparently we hate Trump’s lying, dumb, racist, misogynistic, incompetent ass because we are all lying, dumb, incompetent, misogynistic racists.

      • Layla Beans says:

Hey KellyAnne! What’s it like to be one of the undead?

      • Tiffany :) says:

Linny, they didn’t get his tax returns. They got PART of his tax returns. Trump has not been focused on jobs, and it is pretty sad that you think so. He has signed no legislation that has done anything for the job market. This was the 73rd straight month of job growth. OBAMA did a lot for the job market. Trump hasn’t been focused on healthcare, he was focused on taking away health care from tens of millions of Americans.

What have you done lately except swallow a lot of Kool-Aid?

      • Lightpurple says:

@Linny, oh honey, have a seat and a cookie. Companies don’t just decide in the space of a few weeks to create hundreds of jobs; that takes months of planning so thank Obama because your man hasn’t actually implemented any policies yet.

And healthcare? Well, dear, what we’re looking at is a piece of legislation cobbled together about three or four years ago by Price & Ryan from GOP ideas the Senate rejected in 2009. Ryan initially even released an old PowerPoint on it that still explained how he hoped to pass it over Obama’s veto. Trump didn’t work on it and when he talks about it, it is very clear he doesn’t understand it.

Pedophilia and sex trafficking? Those stings take some time and your boy hasn’t had time to develop, implement and train agents in any new policy and then put those trained agents into the field so again, thanks, Obama.

The taxes from 2011-2016 and the Russians matter because, well, treason.

Now, what has your Donald been busy doing? Wasting millions of our tax dollars on trips to Florida, wasting millions more guarding his wife in NYC and his sons on business trips for HIS business, exposing state secrets to the casual eyes of waitstaff and random golfers, and promoting bigotry?

Oh, do you still think he should be praised for not taking a salary? Because he IS taking the salary and the healthcare. We’re paying for his Viagra.

      • Rapunzel says:

And he’s saying he’ll donate the salary, but like most promises of his, it won’t happen.
And it’s probably more than just viagra. He’s likely on cholesterol/diabetes meds, and blood pressure meds. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if he uses that “healthcare” to buy Melania and Ivanka some new tatas.

      • Eric says:

        @lightpurple
Funny have a seat and a cookie!

      • mary mary says:

Here is some more Trump news that Trump will probably label fake:
“House intelligence chief says ‘no evidence’ Obama had Trump Tower
wiretapped but they will grill FBI in public on explosive claims – and Department
of Justice faces subpoenas on whether it asked for permission to snoop.”

      • Snowflake says:

Have you heard about the genetic test ing bill

      • Megan says:

@linny I work 10-12 hours every damn day to make this world a better place. Right now, every client I have is focused on derailing Trump’s reckless agenda that would destroy our environment, rob us of our rights, and deplete what little moral leadership this nation has left. Get off your high horse and get to work if you care so much.

    • DeniseMich says:

12 year old tax returns are not interesting to me. Show me his taxes from 2015 or 2014.

We want to see present connections and where he puts his money. Rachel Maddow had a nothing story and I like Rachel. Sorry but no.

      • swak says:

When keeping paper work for financials, they tell you only to save back 10 years. So, yeah, a 12 year old tax return means nothing in the scheme of things. What I believe may have happened is that Trump didn’t leak the tax return, someone else did, and he is afraid more current ones will be released. Otherwise, why get all bent out of shape about it.

OT: Hope all, who had the blizzard yesterday are safe and doing well.

      • Shambles says:

Like I said on the other thread, this still matters. Rachel herself said, “The story here is that these are obtainable.” Meaning, the point is that it’s possible to get his tax returns and he’s been hiding them on purpose. It’s not a smoking gun, and it was too overly-hyped. But it still matters. It’s still a thread in the web.

      • Angela82 says:

I think what I found most disappointing was how dated it was even prior to the show. I do like the first steps of gaining access to his information (or what little she could as most was not accessible, sketchy anyone…). Information which he has desperately tried to hide for more than a year. But the fact it was 2005 and didn’t show any wrong doings was a bit of a let down.

That said I am not going to harp on Maddow for hyping it up. She wants people to pay attention and she also wanted the White House to have to issue a response, b/c sadly more people take notice of stuff on twitter than actual cable news these days. And Aside from Dan Rather, she seems to be the only one going after Trump in any meaningful way. This is a decent first step. I just hope the attention span of the American public doesn’t wane and that she stays safe and is able to dig up more trash in his past. I hope this is a good first baby step and that the Dump is freaking out.

      • Triple Cardinal says:

        Agreed. It was overhyped.

What Maddow kept saying, however, is that more info is out there. First it’s two pages from 2005. Next, maybe a schedule or two from, say, 2010? Just hoping, but this could be the quiet beginning of an avalanche of filings.

And for Trump to tweet “fake news”? With the WH confirming the info? Really?!

        #RealNews, #BoneheadInTheWhiteHouse #MayHeCrashAndBurn

      • MissMarierose says:

The copy that Maddow showed is stamped “CLIENT COPY” at the bottom of the second page. Trump absolutely leaked the pages of this tax return. (emphasis on pages. The schedules that could show where he gets his money from and who he is indebted to are still missing and THAT’s what counts here.)

      • Tiffany :) says:

“Otherwise, why get all bent out of shape about it”

To distract. The healthcare roll out and the Russian story have dominated headlines for weeks now. He is desperate to bump those headlines off of the top of news websites. He loves feigning outrage almost as much as he loves being sincerely outraged.

Good point, MissMarierose. The Client Copy stamp is a big tell.

  2. Greata says:

God , this SOB is petty. Focus on running the damm country you idiot!

    • Megan says:

His pettiness is misdirection and it works. Whoever sent those tax returns knew exactly what they were doing. Today’s headline is “Trump Pays Taxes.” And Rachel Maddow is discredited. It’s a twofer for Trump.

  3. IMO says:

I wish I could say the same things like other people. You know, that he won’t last the full four years but I think he will… and with Russia’s help it could even be eight years.

    • RussianBlueCat says:

With the way he gets angry over every criticism, bad eating habits, lack of exercise, overweight, his age and having one of the most stressful jobs on earth. I would not be surprised if he already has high blood pressure then has a stroke before he is mid way through his first term. He does not look healthy at all

      • Angela82 says:

I hope, because I can’t trust the American public to not reelect this psycho sadly. Unless somehow young people get motivated enough to show up in 2018 and 2020.

ETA: on the bright side, maybe all those people who didnt show up because they thought HRC was a shoe in versus this psycho now realize their mistake and don’t take things for granted. My major concern is somehow him seizing more power and the gerrymandering, racist voter laws impacting it even more in 2020. 🙁

      • Cate says:

I keep hoping he’ll drop dead of a stroke or a heart attack. But he father lived into his 90s and if his doctor is to be believed Trump is in reasonable health for his age. So I’m not counting on it too much, sadly.

      • bleu_moon says:

@Angela82- I wish more young people were showing up! I am on the other side of 40 now 😉 and was one of the youngest people at our local voting precinct meeting. We need to figure out how to motivate millenials. A shockingly small percentage of voters show up for local elections and the voters tend to skew older. In our very conservative precinct most incumbents run unopposed every year. Local politics isn’t “sexy” but can have more of an impact on your life than national races.

      • Christin says:

I cannot understand why people will wait in line for hours on Black Friday, or for the latest tech gadget, but won’t take time to vote.

      • Angela82 says:

@bleu_moon: yeah I hear a lot of local politicians won just because there was no one to challenge them. Case in point: Sheriff Hair Piece aka Dave Reichert in Washington state was one of those that constituents were complaining about b/c he doesn’t support releasing Trump’s taxes and he didn’t show up to his town-hall because hes afraid of being “shot” like Giffords. Yeah big chicken who brags about catching the Green River Killer is afraid some pissed off citizen will shoot him. Anyways while Seattle is known as being pretty liberal, I understand that he comes from a pretty wealthy area in Washington (Issaquah-eastwardish??). However, I also hear no one was running against him either. And now people are up in arms over this…

@Christin: Yeah its pretty sad. As much as I hated my grandma for showing up to vote for the Dump, I can’t blame a 87 yr old woman who has more motivation to go vote than someone in their 20s. I made that mistake when I was 18 and GWB won and I refuse to not vote ever again.

ETA: I really think if everyone in the 18-40 range showed up Republicans would have a much harder time winning again. Yeah you have some young conservatives in certain states, but i think the democrats would have a much easier time winning both the Presidency, Congress and local government. The question is how to motivate them and how to get them to rally around the candidate that wins the primary. :-/

  4. lavnbb says:

I can’t with this crazy man. I will never understand the people who voted for him.
I still Can’t even come to acknowledge him as a President, even though he is, especially when I see the elegant, intelligent, articulate President Obama.

I’ll never understand this former Reality star, fake University skam school, several times bankrupt, p–grabber, ever. Sorry

Yes, yes and yes! Everything you say is exactly how I see it too.

    • bluhare says:

I read a good article in the Washington Post about the ACA repeal and how it will impact a county I think in West Virginia. The county went 74% for Trump or something like that, and there’s a lot of unemployment due to lack of mining jobs. Therefore, they also have huge enrollment in expanded Medicaid under the ACA. They are all going to be in trouble if the repeal goes through as they’ll be thrown off Medicaid. So it would seem they voted against their self interests, but the story said the reason it went so high for Trump was because he promised jobs. They didn’t think or realize that they could lose their insurance before any jobs are created — if any jobs are created.

      • Whyme says:

Bluhare, I read that story too. It was so sad. I believe it was Northfork, West Virginia. It’s funny I can’t find he article anymore and I just read it in bed last night. I read it’s like one of the most poor towns in the U.S. and those coal miners really thought they would have their jobs back (although some still worked in the mines but hours from the town) and then they would get health insurance and it wouldn’t matter. All the time not realizing this man was lying his orange face off.

      • Christin says:

The proposal takes away a key improvement to obtaining black lung benefits. Bernie conducted a town hall meeting in WV on Sunday that showed how residents were realizing how many things could directly affect them.

      • Angela82 says:

We can hope they change their mentality, but they also fall for the racist and religious agenda of the GOP. 🙁

    • Tate says:

I am right there with you @lavnbb. I still can’t believe so many people fell for this conman and because they fell for it, we will all pay a heavy price.

  5. Rapunzel says:

He’s just trying to make it seem like he didn’t leak this.

    • bleu_moon says:

Yup. As I posted on another thread, I do think it’s interesting it happened right after non-MSM sites reported yesterday that Trump is on a witness list in the Jeffrey Epstein trial. Now MSM is all about the tax returns and didn’t pick up the trial story. I doubt Sean Spicer wants to answer questions about what, if anything, Trump knows about the rape of underage girls at press briefings.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“Trump is on a witness list in the Jeffrey Epstein trial.”

        WOW!

      • bleu_moon says:

Yeah, it’s doubtful Trump will testify and like I said on the other thread, it may be a total fishing expedition. Supposedly some of the underage girls were recruited at Mar-a-Lago. That doesn’t mean Trump knew about it, I suppose. He was a friend of Epstein though.

      • Rapunzel says:

If Epstein becomes Trump’s downfall, I would be so happy. This needs to be bigger news.

      • Megan says:

Trump’s connection to Epstein is old news. This is the same case where Prince Andrew was also named as a potential witness. If push comes to shove, Epstein will just buy off the plaintiffs. This won’t be Trump’s downfall.

      • Rapunzel says:

Megan- Yes, Trump’s connection to Epstein is old news. But if they can make connections to underage girls and Mar-a-lago, that’s pretty big. And I don’t recall Trump being called into any cases against Epstein before.

But I do agree that it’s likely anything will come of this and it won’t be Trump’s downfall; that’s why I said “if”

Personally, I’d like Trump to go down for something really dirty and inexcusable like this. It would be better, imo, than money laundering or tax evasion. Or even election rigging.

      • bleu_moon says:

@Megan- This probably will not bring down Don the Con-in part because it seems like nothing will. This is a different civil law suit brought by 4 victims. The other interesting aspect is that Trump’s new labor secretary nominee, Alexander Acosta, cut a “sweetheart” deal for Epstein on the criminal charges while he was a US Attorney in Miami. I think confirmation hearings for Acosta were starting today.

    • Radley says:

I agree. It’s a distraction from the Republicans awful health care bill and the fact that Trump has no proof for his dumb, paranoid Obama-wiretapped-me tweets. It was only two pages. And it was probably a year when he had the most income and taxes paid to report. He (or rather Bannon) knows all the deplorables will remember is $30+ million in taxes paid. But we still don’t know where the money is coming from. That’s the big question. And there’s plenty of reason to suspect it’s coming from Russia and even the Russian mob. Deplorables aren’t gonna think that deeply about it, though.

I do wish Rachel hadn’t hyped it up. I was hoping a smoking gun had finally been uncovered. But maybe all of this will have the net effect of prompting somebody out there to leak more taxes. It would be great if Rachel and that reporter know it’s Trump behind this initial leak, are playing along but actually have more sources and more info on deck. A girl can dream.

Bottom line: This toxic puddle of fake tan grease and man boob sweat has got to go asap. So let’s keep digging.

  6. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

Why would you feel sorry for her? This is great. There has to be more than a grain of truth in this since he called it “fake news”, which means it is basically confirming that it is a part of a real document of his. They need to find more.

He responded to it, which is a good thing. You know he does stupid things when he is either high, pissed off, or highly pissed off. Just because it was not the “smoking gun” you wanted does not mean that this is something for her to be ashamed of or sorry for.

Plus, for someone so rich, how could he have earned only $150 million dollars in one year. He has holdings in over 500 companies, right?

    • KWM says:

It was over hyped but there was one very interesting tidbit. All through his campaign he has said he wants to eliminate the ATM (alternative tax minimum) now we know why, without this he would have only paid slightly over 5 million on almost 150 million dollars.

  7. IlsaLund says:

President 🤡 is right on cue with his pathetic tweets. While watching Maddox’s show last night, I knew this is exactly what he’d do this morning. I believe someone from his team leaked those two pages from 2005. This allows him to implement his modus operandi, tweet, deflect , distract. He can rant and rave about this at his next big rally in Kentucky. The news media should be on to his game by now and start calling him out on his bullshit. Don’t take the bait, stay focused on the real issues.

  8. Div says:

It was over hyped, but Maddow made a very good point in that a tax cut he is now advocating would have saved him $30 mil in taxes. The negative income of approx $100 mil is definitely sketchy, too.

Also, I definitely think he leaked this…it even said client copy. My guess is he leaked it because Comey is supposedly going to talk today about the Russian connections.

    • Lightpurple says:

And the White House confirmed the documents were 2 pages from 2005 before Maddow had even revealed that she had two pages from 2005.

    • Olenna says:

Agree, the 2-page tax form was over-hyped by Rachael, but I was further displeased that Laurence O was gloating over it, too. For a 12 year old, incomplete tax return with what is now being called a shady release, I thought the coverage was excessive and a little imprudent. The media needs to stay on point and be cautious when they release negative drumpf news because that POS will always find a way to discredit them.

      • Radley says:

Agreed. Regroup MSNBC. I’m counting on you. I still love Rachel and Lawrence though. Overall, very very good reporting day to day.

    • KWM says:

I’m not so sure it was Trump. I have no doubt it could have been one of his minions this seems more like a Bannon or Miller deal.
Let’s look at what we did not talk about or talked very little about last night:
No talk about the EO to reorganize
No talk about Comey meeting with Senator Whitehouse today
No talk about Breitbart taking on Ryan
No additional talk about the wire tapping

I not so sure this is Trump, Mr. I’m too smart to pay taxes. No this seems more like one of his minions doing it without his knowledge.

  9. MunichGirl says:

Has his team leaked those tax returns because it was time for them to show some proof (which doesn’t exist) that Obama wiretapped Trump’s phone?

  10. Jem says:

I dont know, but it seems to me the release of these few “innocent” pages from a tax return, combined with his reaction to it…. yeah I’d say he is hiding something. Otherwise he’d just scoff and shrug it off. I think it was a “warning shot across his bow” by whomever is holding his returns, and something tells me not all of those documents make him look so good….

  11. Christin says:

Why be angry? Didn’t the WH confirm the ‘client copy’ was authentic? It shows he paid taxes.

I still think this is a distraction attempt. Or maybe a calling card from overseas ‘friends’?

  12. Darkladi says:

I thought witches were supposed to be cursing him. Why hasn’t this worked yet? Sad!

    • Kitten says:

      Maybe it IS working.

    • Radley says:

LOL I know it feels like 1,000 years of darkness but it’s only been a couple of months. Hang in there. I still believe he’s way too dirty to avoid a major presidency jeopardizing scandal. It’s coming. So many powerful people loathe him and want some payback. They won’t give up.

    • jwoolman says:

No, they’re putting a binding spell on him so he can’t harm other people. Not a curse.

  13. minx says:

This was a 12 year old return, has he paid taxes since then?

  14. Kaye says:

Oh my god–it has not even been sixty days…

  15. Beth says:

I’m embarrassed that Americans voted for this pig to be our president! The reporters are doing their jobs while he does nothing but golf and make childish tweets. He clearly doesn’t realize what a presidents job is

  16. Kasia says:

So what I’m getting is that he intentionally released tax returns from 12 years ago to temporarily distract everyone from the fact that he and his entire administration are a disaster and that they cheated to get there?

Yup. You’re the real winner here pal.

  17. Sharon Lea says:

He is well known, I have seen him many times guest on MSNBC. His site crashed and so did Maddow’s last night, as well as last week when he posted pictures of the Russian oligarchy’s private plane next to DT’s plane when he was campaigning. Show us your tax returns Donald, all of them, including the attachments and schedules.

  18. Beth says:

Someone has to hammer his phone. Crush it to pieces. Everyday he makes a bigger fool of himself with these tweets. End his Twitter account. A president has to be strong and mature enough not to get so pissed about everything. Why is he so scared about showing tax returns? Maybe because it’ll prove he really is a liar

  19. Maria says:

the WH complained about Snoop Dogg’s video, because apparently ‘he did not respect the position of the presidency’.

That they can issue statements like this, considering the behaviour of the current president and the disrespect he shows for the office is mind boggeling.

    http://edition.cnn.com/2017/03/14/entertainment/snoop-dogg-donald-trump-video/

    • bleu_moon says:

Trump has a cameo in 2 soft core porn movies. Really don’t think he can complain about videos…

  20. Eric says:

    Interesting from Stephanie Ruhle:
“More GOP lawmakers come out against the new health care proposal. Is it dead on arrival? See? We’re not gonna get distracted today.”

She’s telling her audience that the TAX news item is not going to lead. But what that’s telling me is that the audience is informing the tenor if the show…probably enough tweets by viewers to change the course of the news on MSNBC today.

    Weird.

  21. Mew says:

I just wish he’d finally actually do something other than run his mouth. Destroy the world, start world war 3, nuclear destruction, something, anything. This is actually getting boring, as amusing as his antics have been to follow.

  22. cindy says:

I’m not mad at Maddow. She is doing her job, and doing it well. It was crushing to find that these tax returns won’t actually do us any good, or show fraudulent activity/ money from Russia. Especially on the tail of learning our health care has been taken away. Trump is destroying our country and we all know impeachment is the only hope we have. So, for the two pages of returns to be nothing? One more kick in the teeth. But Maddow was just reporting the information… It was just disappointing information. 🙁

  23. Rapunzel says:

I suspect DT is embarrassed to be shown paying so much and making so little. Also, I suspect he’s embarrassed that people are on to him leaking this himself.

If he’s leaking tax pages for distraction/deflection, he’s truly desperate. So I approve of Maddow’s story.

  24. adastraperaspera says:

If you’re in the Nashville area today, please turn out starting at 4:30PM this afternoon and protest Tr*mp’s visit. In addition to his usual Nazi rally, he is visiting the Hermitage (slave plantation) and laying a wreath at the grave of Andrew Jackson–the same president whose portrait he put in the Oval Office as soon as he moved in. He loves the Trail of Tears legacy, apparently. Sickening.

  25. robyn says:

I’m guessing he covertly had those benign two-pages of his 2005 tax returns sent to the man who gave it to Rachel Maddow to change the subject and also to stick it to Rachel Maddow because she covers Trump’s Russian connections extensively. Trump’s continuing to play the media. SHOW US YOUR FULL TAX RETURNS DONALD TRUMP.

  26. Allie says:

I would have thought that a so-called “billionaire” turned President, both occupations that need a rather extensive knowledge of taxes and economics, would know who David Cay Johnston is.

  28. Apples says:

I have “0” doubt that he has planted this story: pulled out one of his best-looking tax returns and send it to the papers himself. Reporters have been mocking him openly for years about calling in and planting stories about HIMSELF all the while pretending that it wasn’t him :))

    Why?

To divert attention from the issue of hiding his recent taxes. To show that he paid some at some point. To show that he made a TON of money (which might as well be the only year he made that much). To yell at the media for printing ‘leaked” documents.

    Very Trump.

Also, this particular show and guest reporter (who allegedly received the ‘client copy’ stamped pages) have been showcasing some interesting foreign ties and puzzling financial deals.

Last night provided distraction and a chance to discredit. A 12-year-old return (minus details/accompanying schedules) is outside the window of audience interest.

      It seems very John Miller-ish.

The only “fake news” is that he’s NOT an incompetent ass.
