Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney at the Met Gala: boring or ice queen fabulous?

On E!’s coverage last night they kept talking about how all the hair was on point. The top knots, spikes and shapes were reminiscent of Kawakubo’s designs, which is something I honestly wouldn’t have realized on my own. So Kate Hudson’s shock white hair is in homage to the theme. Her white Stella McCartney gown, not so much. There’s the single large draped sleeve, but otherwise this is a typical fitted column gown. It’s pretty but not memorable. This is Stella McCartney though, so points to her for actually tailoring the dress to Kate. It could have been so much messier, which is probably why she didn’t get too creative. I do like Kate’s styling although it kind of emphasizes that she’s had some injectables. The hair and makeup last night was very good overall actually.

Naomi Watts was also in Stella McCartney, and you could tell from her expression on the red carpet that she knew her dress was utterly boring. It’s just a black v-neck dress with some metallic netting underneath. This would be cute for a premiere or minor event, but not the Met Gala. Her makeup is cool though, I her bold smokey eye and light pink lip.

I’m throwing Elle Fanning at the end here because we have a lot of people to get through this morning and her look wasn’t that daring either. Elle was in this lovely but somewhat staid Miu Miu gown with a long diaphanous train and a tight fitting bodice. She looks so pretty but again this dress isn’t anything new. I like the color, I want to call it cornflower blue but it’s lilac maybe. The train is impressive I will admit.

I wish I could pull of the kind of dress Elle Fanning is wearing.

Where was Elle fanning’ stylist on this?! She is adorable but this dress is painfully off theme. What is the point of going? She usually takes risks that pay off. Odd to see no attempt at th theme.

Kate Hudson is tired. She needs a nap for a few years.

Yes, these are all nos, but Fannings is an extra no. When we veer this far into no, it makes me wonder if it’s an artistic statement.

Kate’s is an almost, but it mostly looks like she forgot the theme, got drunk anyway, and just spray painted her hair to cope when she was late.

Naomi watts dress is very pretty, but not overly on theme.

That’s not really how the Met Gala works. She is there as Miu Miu’s guest. Whether or not they simply hand her a dress or let her choose one from their current collection is up to them, but there’s little question.

  3. OSTONE says:

Elle’s dress would be appropriate if the theme was Disney’s frozen. Kate Hudson doesn’t turn down an invitation, doesn’t she? Her and Naomi didn’t even try with their dresses.

    Sienna looks stress tiny 🙁

Kate’s face is looking “different” somehow. I can really see it in the close up.

I would call Elle’s dress sky blue, lilac is more purple, I think. She looks sweet.

Kate is ridiculous as usual to me with her try hard poses and wanna-be edginess.

Naomi’s dress is better than Kate’s imo, but her hair and makeup is lovely. She really looks better and better with age, imo.

  7. Sara says:

Wow, does Hudson look awful!!! Yikes!

  8. deevia says:

Kate Hudson should play Ursula in a live-action movie. She was born for it.

  9. GingerCrunch says:

Naomi is just so damn pretty! Love her look whether it’s on theme or not.

If you look at her expressions in all the photos above, she’s natural and not taking herself too seriously. But oh my God, Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney–they are posing like their lives depend on it!

  10. KBeth says:

I actually like Kate’s dress, she has a great figure…the hair is awful though & ages her.
How old is Fanning? I think she looks lovely but too “girlish” for an adult woman?

    • holly hobby says:

Yup Kate’s hair is bad. I bet it is also damaged. It looks really dry.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Elle just turned 19 – still young enough to pull off this brand of “girlish”, but the MET gala is a weird place for this dress. She’s usually much more daring, even at the regular movie premieres.

I love Naomi’s dress, but again – not the right place.

Kate Hudson messed with her face very badly and she should stop whatever she’s doing immediately. She doesn’t even look that fake – she just looks much worse than usual. like she suddenly dropped from being gorgeous to plain at best. Now she’ll probably try to fix the damage and will end up looking like Nicole Kidman at her most frozen.

  11. KBeth says:

    I think Naomi looks stunning!

  12. QQ says:

*yawns* i’ll give Kate’s new face and the hair style a Golf clap though

  13. Tiffany says:

I feel this needs to be repeated, Stella McCarthy should not have a successful designing career. Just. No.

  14. samab says:

Everytime Kate Hudson shows her ears with an updo I cringe

  15. Sylvia Morin says:

OMG Kate Hudson looks horrible what’s wrong her face? She looked like she age, eyes look awful, her big ears. No wonder Brad Pitt ran

  16. bella says:

I love all the dresses here, but Kate should have worn a wig because her hair looks like it’s needs some serious Kerastase! STAT
