Connie Britton was the only woman I saw who wore something with writing on it, except for the “Time’s Up” pins. She wore this Lingua Franca “Poverty is Sexist” sweater paired with a pleated skirt by Max Mara. This was definitely more casual than most of the gowns at the #WhyWeWearBlack Globes and I love it. Refinery 29 reports that this sweater was custom-made for Britton, that’s it’s available to the public, and that $100 from each sale goes to support the One Campaign, which works “to fight poverty and prevent diseases,” primarily in Africa. There’s also a “Time’s Up” sweater created by Lingua Franca, of which $100 goes to the Times Up legal defense fund. Of course these sweaters are not cheap. They retail for $380. I need to learn how to embroider. I can’t decide if Connie’s skirt is navy or light black, but either way I love this.
Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Shape of Water. She was in a delicately detailed sequin stripe gown by her go-to designer, Tadashi Shoji, to whom she’s usually loyal. (I’m pretty sure she’s worn other designers to events but that she wears Shoji most of the time.) I love how classic and elegant this is.
Spencer’s fellow nominee, Hong Chau (Downsizing), was in Stella McCartney and it shows unfortunately. This might be ok without the lace.

Visually I don’t care for the sweaters, and they seem very overpriced. But I appreciate the sentiment and her choosing to wear at this moment.

@lucy2 i agree, the sweater is very pricey, i think if they priced it at $100 they would get a lot of regular people buying it.
Guys, the sweater was probably made from sustainable materials and in humane conditions…at least I hope so at that price.
Not a price point for everyone, sure, but buying less and buying well is better if you can afford it. Good cashmere and construction can last years and years. I’ve made a concerted effort to buy really good quality mid-priced items (which is what I’d call this), and look after them and only replace pieces as others wear out and it’s so much better than fast fashion. No one needs $2000 boots but $500 boots that you lovingly re-sole every year feels good.

I think Phoebe Philo did a lot of design work for Stella McCartney before she moved to Celine, and McCartney has been coasting on those bonafides since. But it’s been a long time since I followed the fashion world, tbh.
