Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie are still negotiating the terms of their divorce settlement

Brad Pitt attends "War Machine" Press Conference in Tokyo

Brad Pitt was involved in a three-car accident yesterday near his home in LA. Apparently, Brad was the one at fault – he was driving his Tesla, he rear-ended a Nissan, and the Nissan hit a third car. All three drivers exchanged information, Brad took photos of the accident damage on his phone, and in case the insurance investigators need third-party evidence, the paparazzi got some good photos too. Was Brad distracted and that’s why he hit the Nissan? What was distracting him? The news that the court has approved plans for Brad and Angelina Jolie to extend their “private” divorce settlement talks?

Nearly a year and a half after filing, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are still working out the details of their divorce. The former couple, who split in Sept. 2016, are taking steps to ensure that ongoing negotiations over custody and distribution of assets remain private.

The court approved their recent request to extend the temporary judge — typically used to oversee private settlement talks — in their case so that the talks stay under wraps, according to a new court filing, reports The Blast.

While the process has been ongoing for months, the two are moving forward amicably and coordinating schedules so both can spend time with their six kids.

“Brad and Angie are doing OK, working out time for him to be with the kids which he treasures,” says a source. Their children — Maddox, 16, Pax, 14, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 9 — live with Jolie in L.A. and visit with Pitt.

[From People]

Last fall, Angelina made it clear that she was still really pissed off at Brad, but I do think there’s been some thawing in general between Brad and *some* of his kids. Like, I think the younger kids still want to see their dad and spend time with him. Pax and Maddox? I doubt it, but we’ll see. As for the lengthy divorce settlement talks… I think it’s good that neither party is rushing the other one. My gut tells me that Angelina is the one slow-walking the negotiation, not out of malice, but just because she’s in a position of strength and she doesn’t need anything Brad has to offer her (money, real estate, etc). All she wants is custody of the kids and for Brad to stay clean and sober.

They were so hot together! *crying*

    • minx says:

      They really were.

    • Laura says:

I will always remember the day when they broke up. My sister texted me and all she had to say was “THEY BROKE UP!!! THEY ARE DIVORCING!!!” and I instantly knew who she was talking about and was crushed. They were our favorite celebrity couple. It’s like the day Katie Holmes left. A day in gossip history that I will always remember.

We’ll always have the photographs of them at premieres & Mr. and Mrs. Smith. (We don’t talk about By the Sea. It was awful)

      • minx says:

I remember that. I also remember the CB headline…something like, Brad and Angelina are divorcing, this is really happening.

      • Lara says:

I had gotten engaged the weekend before and all I remember is my then boss running in and screaming they’re getting divorced and you’ve just taken yourself off the market! It still makes me laugh thinking about it

  2. Maya says:

I think these two are finished but are now being amicable for the children’s sake.

Angelina has shown true courage by leaving Brad when his alcohol got out of control and he behaved out of character. Even though she loved him, she is a true mother who choose her children’s wellbeing over personal happiness.

Brad seems to have overcome his addiction but it cost him his relationship with Angelina and damaged his bond with his children.

I hope they all managed to heal and move on.

If only Brad would stop choosing his image over Angelina and his children…

  3. ZZ says:

A lot of Hollywood marriages that involve kids and a lot of money take a bit longer. Brad and Angie have only been legally married for a short time but were together for much longer than that. There is a lot to sort out. Not a big deal.

    • tracking says:

+1 Might be tough for them to agree on custody terms, which might involve some differences between older and younger children as well.

    • Bridget says:

Regular people marriages can take forever to dissolve and hammer out custody. It just depends on how far apart the parties are and how acrimonious the split is.

      • Izzy says:

Seriously, my cousin had an airtight prenup and a 12-year marriage. When they split, the divorce took almost three years and between her racking up a quarter-mil in spiteful credit card charges, and then her lawyer trying for six months just to break the prenup (which HE negotiated for her in the first place) – the cost was almost $750. SMH. I am NEVER getting married.

      • Sarah says:

$750 as in $750.00? Or 750 thousand or million? The cost of what?

  4. Astrid says:

I wasn’t anywhere near a Hollywood divorce but when my ex husband got over the top alcoholic, the divorce and custody took 3 years to resolve…so I can totally see why a famous couple’s divorce would take some time.

  5. Luca76 says:

TBH I think they will eventually get amicable. She’s amicable with all of her exes and I think it will be important for her to make peace with the father of her brood.

  6. Erinn says:

“he was driving his Tesla, he rear-ended a Nissan, and the Nissan hit a third car”

And this is why I’m constantly telling my husband to leave extra space. Especially in winter when it’s icy. I try to give a good amount of extra room between myself and other cars just on the off chance that someone rear-ends me because I assume I’d be at fault for hitting the car in front of me. It might depend on country / states or provinces, but where I am, I believe that’s how it goes. Plus, people who tailgate really annoy me.

I can’t believe they’ve been split since September 2016. It doesn’t SEEM like it’s been that long.

    • Svea says:

      Erinn
I leave extra space for safety. But driving in congested areas means that some driver always moves right into that space in the neverending effort to zig and zag throught traffic for, what, like seconds of time saving. I’m always back at square one– bumber to bumper.

    • whatWHAT? says:

I F*CKING HATE TAILGATERS. it’s bad enough in good conditions with a dry road but it ASTOUNDS me when people tailgate in the snow/ice/etc. ESP pisses me off when I’m doing 5-7 miles over the limit, and they STILL tailgate.

I brake check them all the time and that usually makes them back off. not the safest, but give the tailgater a scare and makes them slow down.

      • Anare says:

Braking to get a person to stop tailgating is dangerous. If you are not in the far left passing lane just keep driving and ignore the tailgater. They are behind you so who cares. You’re not out there to personally police the roads. Just pay attention to your own driving.

      • whatWHAT? says:

and you’re also not out there to personally police the roads, so please don’t tell me how to drive.

I NOTED that it’s not the safest thing but it works. I live in NJ and tailgaters are shameless. Simply driving slower does NOT deter them, and I’m not able to ignore a person who’s basically driving in my trunk. “they are behind you so who cares.” I CARE. I’ve been rear-ended a couple of times BECAUSE of tailgaters and I’ll deter them however I want to.

to add, solely paying attention to “your own driving” is a TERRIBLE way to drive. you have to be aware of other (bad, inconsiderate) drivers and drive defensively. If I just paid attention to my own driving, there are many times I would have been killed (or severely injured) by other cars running red lights, or stop signs, or turning in front of my car, etc.

        ok, officer nosypants?

    • Lady D says:

In BC, you are 100% at fault for rear-ending someone. I hate tailgaters too.

  7. Alright says:

I feel bad for her, she seemed very in love with him and their family . Someone from a broken family like hers sometimes you create what you didn’t have as a child..I hope they find peace and reunite. Get it together man.

    • ZZ says:

What gives you that idea? She seemingly made no effort to reconcile with him after the incident on the plane. One day they were together, the next they were divorcing.

      • KBB says:

I think it just seemed like that to people on the outside. They spent barely any time together in 2016. I think the divorce was a long time coming. God, even their wedding photos didn’t look good. She looked like she was walking to her death and he was holding her entire face kissing her. I think she was over it for a long time and probably got married as some last ditch effort to bring the spark back.

I always thought it was odd that their kids seemed so preoccupied with their parents getting married. I think they sensed some instability and thought marriage would make them feel more secure.

  8. Kathleen says:

It really feels like Brad Pitt’s star is on the decline, doesn’t it? He had a moment there and that moment was extended when he attached himself to Jolie but does anyone really care about Brad Pitt anymore? What was his last hit movie?

    • smcollins says:

A moment? He had already been a huge star for over a decade when he & Angelina got together. She was a big star already, too. Their relationship magnified all that x1000. He may not have a lot of hits as of late with acting parts, but he’s definitely becoming a pretty successful and powerful producer. And Angelina has been more focused on directing and her humanitarian work, but is poised for a nice “comeback” to acting. Basically, they’re both doing just fine and are still 2 of the most famous people in the world. Just not together. jmo, though.

    • Mimi says:

You’re kidding right? His career is fine. He will always be a star.

    • Savasana Lotus says:

The name of his production company is Plan B because he knew he would be putting the breaks on the acting in his 50s. Check the Plan B imdb. Hugely successful. Quite an endeavor just as Angelina focusing on development, writing and directing and producing is quite an endeavor.

    • Izzie the other says:

I wouldn’t say his star is on the decline at all. People need to realize that celebrities as big as Brad Pitt can go months without being spotted and can go underground if they need to. And we also need to take into consideration that celebrity is consumed much, much more differently then it was when Brangie was at their highest point (05-11) Celebrities are much more accessible with social media now so people aren’t going crazy over them as they usually would. The mania around them has died but they are still big stars.

They remind me a lot of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Less decadent but eerily similar.

    • KBB says:

They were both so much more powerful and magnetic together than apart. They just don’t have that same sparkle individually. Obviously they’re both massively charismatic stars, but together they were otherworldly. Neither will be able to replicate that individually or with another partner.

2017 was a great year for her career wise, but given the allegations against Brad I think it was smart of him to step out of the spotlight. He’s got Ad Astra and WWZ2 coming up, so any downturn in his career will be temporary.

      • Tulip Garden says:

Apparently, these two ended up unhappy together. They are divorcing afterall. It follows that they wouldn’t want to replicate their relationship. They both need someone that fits with and makes them happy as they are now. They will both find that.

    Malice for $100 Alex

  10. mela says:

Man, she is really over him – isn’t she?

  11. AtlLady says:

I still want to know what really happened on that airplane. There was a case in Georgia (USA) when a 14 year-old boy mouthed off at his mother in a grocery store, telling her to “F*** you!”, and she slapped his face for using such language and talking back to her. By the time she and her son made it to the checkout, the grocery store manager had called the police, who, in turn, called Social Services. The mom was arrested and the son was placed in foster care, even though the son was crying that it was all his fault and trying to pull his mom away from the officers. It took the mom and dad nearly 2 years to regain custody of their son, both lost their jobs because of the publicity, and they lost their home to pay for legal bills. All because a kid was testing his boundaries, which they all do at that age. Seems to me that the publicity was what sent this case bounding out of control. Could be it was the same with Brad and Angie. Mad was Angie’s kid before Brad while the others knew Brad from birth, so Mad’s age at the time plus maybe some early childhood jealousies probably makes him the culprit who set everything in motion by testing his boundaries and being generally grumpy from a long plane ride. We shall know eventually – Z will write the book. Just not sure if she will write it before or after she takes over the humanitarian foundation work from her mother. Z rules!

    • Peggy says:

From the reports, Maddox stepped in to break up an argument between his parents, since he is the oldest.
Why would the two oldest children be so angry at the only dad they’ve have, BBT left left when Maddox was a baby.
Yes children do act out, but dealing with a drunk person/parent is no picnic.
Zahara hopefully will be participating with the real World.

    • Tulip Garden says:

Maddox isn’t to blame for the break-up and he should never be made to feel that he was. The two adults in the marriage made the decisions that led to the break up.

      • Seitan says:

The former nannies said Maddox was really sweet and Zahara was the little firebrand in the family who encouraged the other kids to make up stories and even got a nanny fired because she was (wasn’t really) crushing on Brad Pitt.

      • Missy says:

Surreee…..Zahara is the one leading all the good natured other kids to stray. Messing up the Pitt-Jolie home. LMAO Wonder how/why people came up with that one….ha.

  12. Differentview says:

I’m surprised no one has commented on the massive scratch clearly seen on the side of the Telsa in the DM photos. If this crash was a low speed rear collision apparently the other damage must be from another recent accident. Bad driver or slide from alleged sobriety?

  13. Eve says:

He looks like Robin Thicke in that bottom picture. And this is not a compliment.

  14. Lexa says:

    He looks great

  15. Sim says:

A top NYC lawyer commented about these extended cases, he said that once the couple gets past thorny issues, things calm down and a lot of them get back together. Also, their only authorized reps are Cynthia Pett-Dante and Robert Offer and they are largely inaccessible to tabloids, even People.
And Brad’s personal chief bodyguard fallows Angelina even when she goes out without kids.
Seems things are not hostile between them. I’d love to watch all the haters brains explode if they stayed together lol

  16. truth hurts says:

I just went back and look at the beginning of their divorce and the way he tried to snowball Angie. I don’t like him and hope she goes on with her life.
