Doctor wants to give Cameron Diaz a ‘Bad Skin Lifetime Achievement’

One of my most well-documented peeves is any kind of doctor who will give named quotes “diagnosing” a celebrity that the doctor has never met. I’ve said it before – I find the whole thing unethical and simply cheap. So I take this latest report with a certain amount of angst – and yet I find myself agreeing, at least partially, with the doctor who is giving Cameron Diaz an armchair-diagnosis.

Is it any secret that Cameron has had a prolonged battle with her skin? It’s not just the normal young-starlet excess-sunbathing sun damage, Cameron’s skin often looks totally wrecked. Adult acne, psoriasis, all of the bad stuff seems to effect Cameron. Well, there’s this random doctor (Dr. Reese) who has given a bunch of quotes about Cameron and her skin issues – Dr. Reese even gives out “awards” to “celebrities with bad pocks, pimples, zits and scars.” Dr. Reese has some unsolicited medical advice for Cameron – and if she doesn’t follow it, Dr. Reese will “award” her the dishonor of a Bad Skin Lifetime Achievement.

CAMERON DIAZ is battling another skin condition – a top doctor has spotted a nasty case of psoriasis just below her right elbow. The itch is known as ‘heartbreak’ by dermatologists, because it doesn’t clear easily and can come back.

Diaz dared to bare her arms as she unveiled her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday and eagle-eyed bystanders could clearly see the actress isn’t all perfect.

In fact, celebrity skin expert Dr. Vail Reese has been scrutinising Cameron’s scabs and pimples for years and he insists the ringworm on her arm is just the latest in a long line of pigment problems for the actress.

He says, “After battling acne for years, yet another skin condition to deal with! She has also suffered with facial pigmentation issues and sun overexposure.”

But all is not lost – Dr. Reese, who serves up his Skinnies dishonours annually to celebrities with bad pocks, pimples, zits and scars, insists Cameron’s latest itch is easily treated. He adds, “Though she is not my patient, it looks she has a form of psoriasis, that’s showing some clearance in the center portion.’

Psoriasis is a pesky form of non contagious inflammation.

“Treatment for small areas involves prescription topical cortisone creams and vitamin D creams. Extensive psoriasis can be treated with injectable anti-inflammatory medicines called biologics. Since they suppress the immune system and can increase the risk of infections, those tend to be reserved for wider areas.”

But, if Diaz doesn’t get her latest skin issue cleared up quickly, she could land the ultimate dishonour on Dr. Reese’s Skinnies list: “With her history of acne and everything else and now this, this may be her year for a Lifetime Achievement award!”

[From Contact Music]

I remember an interview several years ago where Cameron said that she broke out the more stressed she was – I was like that in college, but thankfully, my skin got so much better in my twenties. However, I still battle mild psoriasis to this day. Even right now, I have a weird, itchy, dry, screwed-up patch of skin on my hip that just appeared a week ago. When I broke out in a really bad way several years ago, a doctor prescribed a course of oral anti-inflammatories that did nothing. I’ve always found that a rigorous course of Aloe-based products plus daily cortisone does wonders, but Dr. Reese’s injection suggestion intrigues me. Since I think Cameron is worse off than me, I’m thinking that she should listen to Dr. Reese’s armchair diagnosis – not that she should actually go to him. God, no. He sounds like a douche. But she should look into some of this stuff with a really good dermatologist. And she should stop spending so much time in the sun. Just my diagnosis, Cameron!

Just mean-minded and nasty imo. Any ‘Dr’ who thinks it’s ok to publicly discuss a total stranger’s skin condition – something she’s probably already self-conscious about – loses all credibility as a professional. And no, I don’t care that ‘skin in cinema’ is his area of expertise.

Here’s a pic of him, Clooney eat your heart out. Please feel free to point out his flaws, snigger, laugh, gag etc.

Geronimo, I think you are my newest favorite commenter. Before I thought you were witty, but possibly a bit snarky at times. I have completely changed my opinion. I think you are very thoughtful, and funny! What is up with Reese’s teeth, eyebrows, oh yeah and his big bald head!

Personally I love Cameron. I also love movies she is in!

  3. diddy says:

nasty man making remarks like this about a person he has never met or treated , yuck

  4. Sarah says:

“And she should stop spending so much time in the sun. Just my diagnosis, Cameron! ”

As for Psoriasis, sun is in fact a good “medication”. I know what I am talking. The UV radiation does make some spots heal rather quickly. I agree though, that too much time in the sun is bad, not just for psoriasis ppl but for everyone! ;o)

As for the doc… what a douchebag! Seriously! Isn’t he making already enough money from ripping off his patients that he still needs to get the media to pay attention to his crappy statements? What is it with those ppl????

  5. bros says:

psoriasis and ringworm are not the same thing at all-why are they being mentioned interchangeably in the story? ringworm is a fungal issue and psoriasis is inflammatory and has nothing to do with fungal infections. stupid story, and skin issues are embarrassing enough without Dr. Douchebag McAsshat’s scrutiny. get a life dude-i cant believe this is what he does for a living! what a bottomfeeder and a sorry excuse for a medical professional.

  6. Ursula says:

Has this doctor researched and made sure that Cameron is simply negligent and doesn’t care? May be she has tried her best. Can’t stand arm chair doctors who try to advance their practice hile hurting others. Any one with a bad skin has a mirror and is most like conscious of it.

  7. michelle says:

    “Dr. Douchebag McAsshat”

    Love it!

  8. geronimo says:

Thanks, Michelle! (I do still have my snarky moments tho’ 😛 )

Good points raised. Cameron plainly is in a position to investigate all the options available to her to improve her skin so it would be very surprising if she hadn’t tried numerous ways over the years. Which makes this arsehole’s opinions even more hurtful and insensitive, as if her skin condition is due to her negligence or something. Anyone with ultra sensitive skin goes through enough privately without having their insecurities served up for public consumption and discussion by media-whoring, long-nosed, bald-headed, close-set eyed clowns posing as professionals. 🙄

  9. wow says:

I don’t see how her skin is suppose to be so bad. Even in her out and about pictures – she’s alright.

Is it just me, because I don’t see it. Is it just one of those celebrity things where it gets repeated so many times that people just jump on the bandwagon and say “yeah she has horrible skin”?

She has a lovely face, I feel.

    *shrugs*

  10. ~Kate~ says:

Yeah, he should spend more time on his teeth than looking at other people’s skin :s

  11. Tia C says:

I’m sorry, I think this is hilarious. Yes, he sounds like a douche. No, he shouldn’t make medical “diagnoses” on people he does not treat. But the fact remains, Cameron Diaz does have hell-a bad skin!!! Ain’t no disagreement from me on that point!!

  12. Kevin says:

I’ve always thought Cameron was fuuugly!! Her skin problems are obvious to all except the visually challenged. Makes me respect Justin a little bit (man you have no idea how hard that is to say) for staying with her as long as he did because you know she must be a beast 1st thing in the morning.
Bet this needle dick doctor doesn’t have the balls to say the same thing about Seal. He might end up with the same treatment Fez Perez got.

  13. Nebraska says:

Witch Hazel works well for acne as well as not wearing foundation. I feel bad for Cam if she has psoriasis which totally sucks. Cortisone doesn’t treat the problem it just covers the symptoms. Cam should see a naturopathic Dr to treat her condition.

  14. innocent girl says:

So mean! How about trying Frutels, the vitamin chocolate for acne? Everyone knows there has to be some kinda imbalance inside to get that acne. Maybe she just needs some nutrition to balance her out. (www.frutels.com)Plus she can eat chocolate to her heart’s content.Self &Allure recommend Frutels.

  15. Just a poster says:

I am not the biggest Cam fan out there, but this is sooo mean!

  16. lena says:

this is so mean…personally i use pure unrefined shea butter to lighten my acne and it has worked wonders, they are pratically gone, i get mine from whole foods, alaffia brand… it’s not too expensive $10 for 2 oz, but a little goes a long way and it’s a great moisturizer, it really does work

  17. lrm says:

she should go to a chinese medical practitioner. acupuncture, herbs and diet change will cure nearly every case-even severe, yes, people, even lifelong issues-of skin disease such as eczema, psoriasis, etc.
their diagnosis is different than western med-it’s ‘heat in the blood’ usually toxic heat.
Often, candida overload in the system,or parasites [everyone has them from time to time, few people do a parasite cleanse now and then, however]. you know,’probiotics’ is the new rage? But,there’s a good point with that-intestinal flora does require balnce in order for all other body systems to function well.
And,yes, the skin is an organ, the largest, and whatever the liver cannot detox, the skin does for it.
I don’t know Diaz’s lifestyle, obviously—but do know that alternative tx’s are hugely successful for such issues. Some people have gluten or wheat allergies, for example, causing skin breakouts.
Or,hard, aged cheeses are the problem,or dairy as a whole.
    Many possible causes.
    And,not enough greens.
People, eat your greens!!!! (: Just sayin’. I’ve lived it.
It ain’t no great mystery, and really isn’t a ‘disease’ either. Drs call things a ‘disease’ when they don’tknow what to do or what is going on….so they can pinpoint a cure….

  18. the original kate says:

this doctor should get an award for the worst “bedside manner”. what kind of dermatologist makes fun of people with acne? he sounds like an asshat.

  19. Codzilla says:

Avon sells this moisturizer called Moisture Therapy Intensive Lotion (it also comes in a thicker cream variety) that has supposedly really helped people with psoriasis and eczema. Obviously not a miracle cure, but I thought I’d throw it out there just in case. (I live in a bone dry area of the country, and this is the only stuff that keeps my skin from itching and flaking.)

On topic, this doc is a prick. And an ugly one at that.

  20. BlueSkies says:

I’ve always noticed that balding men or guys with just their hair thinning a little are overcritical about a woman’s flaws. They need to level the playing field, I guess.

  21. Ana says:

I think this is mean, but I often say mean things about Cameron’s looks so it’s hypocritical of me.

But as a person who suffers from adult acne, Cameron probably knows that she has bad skin. It doesn’t help when other people point it out. If I were her, I would be going to the doctors to see if there was anything to sort it out.

I think mine is a hormonal imbalance but can’t afford to go to the doctor. 🙁

  22. Serena says:

I have acne, it’s not terrible but I don’t like it when people point out pimples on my face. I am well aware they are there, you don’t need to tell me and I don’t appreciate suggestions of “popping the pimple.”

I empathize with Cameron’s skin problems. Mine are nowhere near as bad as hers but skin problems can really affect your self esteem. Dermatologist recommendations don’t always work and it’s not something a person can really control. I’m not Cameron’s biggest fan but I’m glad to see her skin problems aren’t getting in the way of her enjoying life.

  23. dew says:

I’m going by what my friend told me, and she had fairly bad psoriasis outbreaks, but sun helps psoriasis. Having said that, I don’t think Cameron Diaz has bad psoriasis, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to pull off sleeveless and skimpy outfits. Even if bad psoriasis isn’t currently acting up, there’s usually reddish-purple scarring until the skin settles down.

  24. lj says:

@ dew: a suntan can help camouflage psoriasis or other dermatitis but too much sun is not good for anyone’s skin. i think her skin looks leathery precisely from sun damage probably in an attempt to camouflage her acne. i have severe skin issues all over so i empathize and i used to tan to help cover it up but at the end of the day it really does more damage than good. cortisone creams really do help as do steroids.

  25. skoksvalley says:

She looks great! She looks her age and God bless her for it! Hollywood is a strange planet filled with botox aliens. This beautiful woman is normal with wrinkles and imperfections. Welcome to the real world.

  26. bianca says:

Give me a break. With all her money, I’m sure she sees a top dermatologist. But there’s only so much a doctor can fix. My brother has battled acne all his life, and believe me, he’s gone to doctors. I’m glad she’s not getting all botoxed up, and she looks just great to me.

  27. celebrities should take care of their skin .

  28. Well not only celebrities, all people should. Celebrities are not an exception.

  29. vicky says:

Would somebody please SHOW me where her supposed bad skin is? Because I’ve seen many, many pics of her and I have never seen any evidence of it!

  30. Liv says:

So often, we see these celebrities all made-up, post-photoshopped, and we feel self conscious trying to live up to that ideal. It is just good to know that they are human too.

  31. I typically don’t post, however discovered this text of great value, Thank you Author

  32. donny says:

CD has ok skin, just scars I think, as with makeup on it looks smooth and flawless. Going out with no makeup is very healthy for the skin, but unfortunately people who are ugly on the inside (and probably on the outside too) like to take photo’s of her when she is not looking her best.

  33. Nosferatu says:

There is a few things than she can do to improve her skin : chemical peel off with fruit acid or tretinoin which is the acid form of vitamin A, for me the tretinoin is the best solution because he affects the middle layer of the skin, removes dead and damaged skin cells, encourages skin cell to division and thus regenerate naturally, but you need to avoid the Sun a few months after treatment. In my country we use balm from mixed herbs : Hypericum perforatum, Thymus serpyllum and olive oil, this balm is not expensive and he is very good for scars , burns or other skin damages but need to be use for some time to show its curative effects. I had a scar from operation, I used that balm every day for a few months and he is completely disappeared without trace..
