Princess Eugenie wore a flirty, floral Erdem to Royal Ascot Day 3

Royal Ascot 2018 - Day 3 - Ladies Day

Here are some photos from Day 3 of the Royal Ascot. Today, Queen Elizabeth was joined at Royal Ascot by her granddaughters, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, as well as Princess Anne. This makes it three days in a row at Royal Ascot for the Queen, and the second time in three days for Bea and Eugenie. Can I just say? I’m really enjoying the Ascot fashion parade, and all of the photos of hats are getting me through this dumpster fire week. Thank you, royals. Thank you, Royal Ascot.

Once again, I feel like the York princesses weren’t really coordinating their looks, nor were they really trying to outdo the other one. They just have different styles – Beatrice possibly errs on the side of too fussy/conservative and Eugenie seems to be feeling herself sartorially more and more these days. Beatrice wore this black-and-white Jonathan Simkhai dress which I absolutely hate. It’s the wrong silhouette for her body type, and the Sally-Ann Provan hat isn’t really doing much for me either. Eugenie, on the other hand, looks flat-out amazing. Eugenie wore a surprisingly short Erdem dress which looks great on her and shows off her legs. It works because it’s either fully lined or she’s wearing a slip underneath, I can’t tell which. Her hat is by the same designer as Beatrice’s hat. It’s fine.

Also: the Princess Royal in turquoise!! She’s such a handsome woman. I think the Queen brought all of her “female faves” today – her favorite (only) daughter, her favorite granddaughters.

I really like Eugenie’s! TQ looks fab as usual too.

  2. smee says:

That dress Beatrice is wearing looks like a giant, stretched-out leotard!

    • Lizabeth says:

It is an odd dress. I can’t imagine it being flattering on any body type. But Bea does seem to like unusual designs!

    • KiddV says:

I think it might look better if the colors were opposite. Maybe.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

      Or thong.

    • minx says:

I almost think it’s an attempt at color blocking, for slenderizing maybe? The fabric is odd and cheap looking IMO, and your eye is drawn right to her crotch area.

    • Mira says:

Beatrice’s is the weirdest dress I’ve seen in quite some time. Honestly really awful.

    • Natalia says:

      @SMEE
I was thinking “giant elephant proboscis” but yeah “stretched out leotard” works even better. 😄

When will these young women learn how to dress??! Don’t answer that… I think it’s an attention-seeking thing.

    • L84Tea says:

It’s like the Ascot version of the Borat “outfit”.

    • PrincessK says:

Beatrice messed the outfit up with the lacey jacket that does not go with the dress, even if it is black. What made her pair them together?

  3. minx says:

Eugenie looks young and cute. Very nice.
That blue is very flattering to Anne, she should wear more if it.

    • Bella Dupont says:

Yeah, really loving Eugenie’s style these days….very flattering on her. I wonder if she’s got a new stylist.

    • magnoliarose says:

I like Anne’s color choice. It looks good on her.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

I can’t recall Anne ever wearing anything this colorful or paying such attention to detail in her ensemble. The necklace is even pretty and color-keyed.

  4. Becks1 says:

I think the Queen typically goes every day to Ascot, right?

I don’t think Beatrice looks that bad…she just doesn’t look good. It’s kind of typical York princess, lol. She looked so good at the Serpentine party though that this is disappointing. Its like one step forward two steps back.

Eugenie looks great and like she is having a good time.

  5. Kaye says:

Wouldn’t you love to look inside the Queen’s closet? She has amazing coordinated suits, blouses, hats, brooches. I bet it takes three people to keep track of it all.

Edited to say: America is in flames, so let’s talk about the Queen’s clothes!

    • minx says:

These fashion, royalty and celebrity gossip threads are keeping me going this week. Seriously.

    • Bella Dupont says:

      .

    • magnoliarose says:

I know. I am enjoying them because everything else seems bleak.

    • DaisyCat says:

Kaye, look for a book called “Dressing the Queen: The Jubilee Wardrobe” by Angela Kelly. It’ll get you inside the Queen’s closet! And yes, she has a full-time staff of at least three seamstresses and wardrobe assistants just for the clothes!

  6. Alexandria says:

Eugenie, Anne and HM look FAB! I just love Anne’s colour. I’m also excited to watch the first Princess wedding since uh Anne’s?

  7. Anastasia says:

Eugenie looks awesome! I love her hat, too!

  8. mela says:

Meg would have killed it in this dress! Why can’t she wear something cute like this? Meg’s ascot outfit was SO matronly

    • minx says:

Meghan would look wonderful in that dress, the pattern and the length would be perfect for her.

      • homeslice says:

I don’t know. I think this dress works well because Eug has some curves. Unless it was expertly fitted on MM (which she seems to have a problem with) it could have been a disaster on someone tiny and petite. Just like the maxi dress…oy.

I have to say the York sisters keep it interesting! Even if I hate what they are wearing, I still enjoy looking at them. I am very much looing forward to Eug’s wedding dress…

    • Bella Dupont says:

Ugh. The white Givenchy outfit for Ascot was just the absolute worst. Between the colonial School Marm hat and the Overnight-Nurse style shirt-dress, that was (imo) the most Matronly I’ve ever seen Meghan look.

But then, on the other hand, Harry spent the entire day looking like he wanted to pick the Matron up and carry her behind a hedge….

So in the end, who really knows?

      • Pandy says:

I still think she’s pregnant already so she’s wearing her clothing rather loose. I liked both princess’ dresses. They look good on both.

      • minx says:

Overnight-nurse style shirt-dress, dying! Perfect description.

      • Natalia says:

I know Meghan is kind of boxy in the torso but even I’m now starting to think pregnancy because all of these styles are accentuating the fact that she has no waist and it appears to be bigger and wider than before.

I mean they can always take a boat during their fall tours this year!

  9. Enough Already says:

Such a soft spot for Eug! Have never heard much about her as far as bad behavior, happy to say.

    • minx says:

I’ve said this before, but my niece runs a domestic violence center in NYC. Last year Eugenie came to visit, I guess DV is one of her interests. My niece said Eugenie was extremely nice, low key, spend a lot of time there, asked good questions. She posed for a picture with my niece and Eugenie looks stunningly pretty.

      • homeslice says:

That’s nice to know! They seem nice, I don’t know the ins and outs of who is a working royal and why, but it seems the York girls would be a bonus…

      • Enough Already says:

Great story minx. It’s rare and gratifying when the spilled tea is positive lol.

      • Natalia says:

Thanks Minx, i do think they must be really nice girls. They just look it. I’ve always liked Fergie too because shes genuine AND a shi-stirrer!

    • bluesky says:

I am liking Eugenie more and more these days, she does seem very genuine and sort of what you see is what you get. There’s a video clip of Eugenie on her instagram speaking at an event for scoliosis (she suffered from it when she was younger, something I didn’t know) and she sounds just like her mother.

  10. joannie says:

Princess Royal is a handsome woman?

    • taxi says:

I question this too. And are the Yorkies really grandma’s faves? What about Zara? She seems more personable by far than Bea.
Maybe because Randy Andy is the favorite child so his offspring get bonus love?

      • homeslice says:

Depending on who the article is about, they are all her favs…lol. I’m sure she has a fondness for all her family members for different reasons.

      • Becks1 says:

@homeslice that does make me laugh. the only one I have never heard described as a favorite is Peter Phillips, and my guess that is probably just because we don’t discuss him here that much.

I imagine she enjoys all her grandchildren.

    • Amelie says:

Yeah I disagree with that description of her. Nobody in the Windsor family would be described as drop dead gorgeous, they are not known to be a good-looking family. The Princess Royal, while regal, does not look like a handsome woman to me.

      • homeslice says:

I would agree, and say that TQ is more attractive than her daughter…I don’t see the spitting image, I think Anne is hard looking. But hey, she hustles so I give her props for that!

      • Nellyy says:

I agree too. The Windsors are not blessed with beauty and they don’t age well. Charles looks like the Queen’s husband and not her son. Will and Harry will age like their father. As for the wives, after Diana, Meghan is the most beautiful Windsor wife (facially). Camilla isn’t aging well too. Can’t believe she’s years younger than Jane Fonda.

      • Nic919 says:

Anne looked beautiful in the 70s. There are pictures of her first marriage where I thought it was Zara. Time goes after us all though and at least she hasn’t jacked her face with fillers and other nonsense.

Camilla can’t compete with Jane Fonda because she hasn’t had extensive surgery. This is where I feel that people need to be honest about what they are doing to themselves because we are forgetting what aging actually looks like and the fake versions are making the rest of us who can’t or won’t do surgery look bad. Now the Queen looks good for 92 and she has not had any surgery. That’s someone who has aged gracefully.

      • Olive says:

@Nellyy can’t forget the other actress wife in the family – Sophie Windsor is a beautiful woman too!

      • minx says:

Anne loves the outdoors and that takes a toll if you don’t protect your skin. I think she just doesn’t want to bother.

      • Moneypenny424 says:

@Nic919 I didn’t believe you at all. I googled images and wow! Way more attractive than I would’ve thought. She did look a good deal like Zara.

      • Moneypenny424 says:

@Nellyy I agree. The wives have helped the gene pool. Unpopular opinion, but I think both Kate and Meghan are prettier than Diana.

      • Amelie says:

I googled young Anne and she was nice to look at it but I wouldn’t really describe her as beautiful (lol maybe I’m just harsh). There are some really great portraits of her but overall she was pretty plain to look at. Never ugly by the way, but she wasn’t some great beauty either. But you know, sometimes it’s better to just be plain. The most beautiful people don’t always age well. I’d say she has aged pretty well too. Also her work ethic is amazing, nobody can ever rag on her for that.

      • magnoliarose says:

An iconic image of Ann that lives on:
        https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/474355773227769407

She looked fabulous in riding clothes in the 70s.

    • Ange says:

She had a certain aristocratic beauty back in the day but she’s always been very practical and no-nonsense and it shows in her face now.

      • Honey says:

Well said. I also wonder if she started diminishing herself, e.g., playing down her looks, after the kidnapping attempt.

  11. Nellyy says:

I need Eugene’s dress..it’s so good. Don’t like her hat though. This dress would have looked amazing on Meghan, that’s what we are talking about. For those making excuses for Meghan, you can see its not rocket science to dress in beautiful clothes even though you’re royal.

    • minx says:

I’m picturing Meghan and her great Ascot hat with this dress.

    • Bella Dupont says:

I’m starting to take the position that Meghan has been deliberately dressing “down” in order to to be too much pf a threat to the other ladies…….in her current mindset, she would probably love Beatrice’s fugly dress.

      • magnoliarose says:

I think she will improve and is dressing in subdued tones because on purpose. Like I said give her some time to get it.

But Beatrice’s dress is so atrocious I refuse to believe she would like it. Who would like that thing?

      • PrincessK says:

I agree, Meghan is definitely dressing down, she is a newbie and doesn’t want to take all the limelight, and irritate other family members who will feel pushed out. The fact is though that she is presently the star of the RF and will be for a long time.

  12. Nellyy says:

Minx 1000+ . Meghan would look so amazing in it. I loove it so much. Rather than wear those bland, boring clothes she’s been wearing that makes her look like a smaller version of Kate, she should hire a professional stylist who knows style to dress her. Lainey who is a hard core Meghan Stan, had to comment about her constant badly applied bronzer which to me looks like it’s the same person who does Kate’s make up. Both women wear badly applied bronzers in addition to Meghan’s underwhelming style. Eugene doesn’t have Harry and Meghan’s duchy money, but she’s still able to look beautiful.

  13. Sage says:

All the Windsor women become “handsome” as they age.

  14. kittyhawk says:

Eugenie is wearing dark nail polish, I thought that was a big no-no with the queen. She looks fabulous, I love dark blue and white together, it is very fresh and regal at the same time.

    • Lizabeth says:

I’m not sure there is really a “ban” on colored nail polish. It has also been reported Kate doesn’t wear it because Will doesn’t like it. Regardless, B&E aren’t working royals.

    • Olive says:

maybe the Queen still doesn’t like it, but Eugenie just decided to wear it anyway

  15. Amelie says:

I wish the royals would stop wearing Erdem, the style is just so matronly and blah. I think Eugenie’s dress looks okay but I prefer what she wore yesterday.

I actually prefer Beatrice’s outfit here, it’s more dramatic and fun to look at.

  16. magnoliarose says:

I think Eugenie’s dress is ok. I hate Erdem so it isn’t my taste. Beatrice’s dress is a horror show and is one of the worst things I have seen on a royal all year. It is nice to see the Yorkies front and center though.

  17. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I would love Eugenie’s look head-to-toe if she’d gone with a basic dark hat (That’s black on the dress, right? Hard to tell from here.). The dress itself is so busy that a simple hat in clean lines would have balanced it out and really finished off what is an otherwise matronly dress. I really dislike Erdem but this is still better than Meghan’s day 1 dress (which also would have benefited from a simple black hat).

Beatrice. Beatrice, Beatrice, Beatrice. No style that accentuates your ladybits is ever going to win you style points. Lose the arrow through the crotch and this could work.

I do think Anne is a handsome woman. She is not classically beautiful, exotic, or gorgeous, just handsome and regal. And she recycles clothes like nobody’s business.

I am so grateful to this site for providing the escape I need to get through my days. My country is on fire and I fear my own employer may be complicit, so I’ve found myself in an ethical dilemma that is keeping me up at night. This is the frivolity I need in order to not have a total breakdown.

    • minx says:

It’s funny because I’m not a big floral person at all, but I like this on Eugenie. She went more tailored on day 1 so this is a nice change up. She also just looks happy and pretty and young, and that doesn’t hurt.

I so agree about this site being a refuge…I can hardly bear to talk about what is happening.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

Eugenie’s smile is one thing that makes me like her look. The dress isn’t terrible, anyway. A little ruffly for my taste but then I’d look like the clearance rack in the garden center of Home Depot if I wore florals. I am decidedly not uber feminine.

    • magnoliarose says:

This time is full of ethical dilemmas and moral decisions. I don’t smile like I used to and feel heavy-hearted all the time. I can relate to what you are feeling.
It isn’t your fault that your employer is on the wrong side of the issue. You didn’t know that when you took the job so go easy on yourself if you can.
If it does bother you then maybe you can leave but if you can’t you shouldn’t feel guilty. Not everyone has the luxury to follow their value system every single day. Courageous moral stances make for great scenes in movies but it isn’t always possible.

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

Thank you. I am fortunate that I work because I want to and not out of necessity. I could leave but I’m not throwing the baby out with the bathwater just yet. The pay is shit but the benefits are killer. I’m in the airline industry and that’s all I’ll say about that.

  18. BooBooLaRue says:

Oh my frumpiness ensues! How I wish that Princess Anne would update that hairstyle – it ages her so much. And why are those dresses so dowdy?

  19. Muprhy says:

If she only brought her favorites, where is Sophie>

  20. ChummyChump says:

I think Bea tries to do what Kate does that that’s HIGH FASHION BECAUSE because all her famous pals do and some members of her family are able to. With some fashion houses, the cuts of the dresses aren’t meant for anyone beyond a size 2 or really look great only on a runway (a la Kate’s Erdem disasters in Sweeden). Bea is GORGEOUS and she just needs to learn to dress for her body type, not follow the labels. Her hat is magnificent though.

Genie looks fabulous and she’s really been able to lean into her fashionable self lately. Good for her.

  21. Jessica says:

Brought her favorite granddaughters?????? Zara just gave birth which explains her absence. Louise is too young.

Don’t think she has a favorite granddaughter. She has a great relationship with all of them.

  22. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch says:

The sisters co-ordinated with black and white ensembles. Beatrice’s doesn’t fit her well. Eugenie’s looks okay on her, but would somehow look fussy and matronly on Kate. I am not a fan of see-through cut outs or dresses that are completely covered in floral prints. So they also share the theme of trends that can go away.

    Lovely hats though!

Also, the Queen’s bright colours, lipstick and brooches are my old lady goals!

  23. Malachite says:

Bea’s dress is bad, objectively, but I love her sometimes bizarre and unflattering choices for reasons that escape me. Just keeps it interesting and unexpected which I appreciate.

  24. raincoaster says:

You know, Ann just keeps getting better and better looking. And happier.

  25. TexOka says:

Eugenie looks ok but Beatrice is a hot mess again. She is a fashion victim and the clothes wear her, not the only way around. I think she doesn’t have the confidence to pull off the bold looks she thinks she looks good in. I wish she would hire a good stylist and makeup artist who knows how to deal with her features.

  26. Interested says:

    Ann seems softer these days.
