Radar Online is reporting that Jessica Simpson butchered the National Anthem at a golf tournament in Bethesda, Maryland on Wednesday. I watched the video of her signing, above, and it honestly didn’t sound that bad to me. She did a few over-the-top high notes but it wasn’t excessive and her voice was completely in tune. I really think Simpson can sing and that her rendition of the anthem wasn’t disrespectful at all. Radar asks if it was the “worst ever,” and I would have to say “not by a long shot.”
Fans of the local football team, The Washington Redskins, booed Jessica’s boyfriend Tony Romo at the event, where he golfed along with Tiger Woods. Romo, an avid golfer, is a quarterback for rival team The Dallas Cowboys.
There were boos Wednesday at the AT&T National Golf Tournament but somewhat surprisingly they weren’t for Jessica Simpson’s National Anthem performance. The buxom blonde gave Roseanne a run for her money in what may become a legend among infamous performances of the Star Spangled Banner but the fans politely held back. They saved their booing and hissing for Jessica’s beau Tony Romo.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is in enemy territory at the golf tournament being held in Bethesda, Maryland, and local Washington Redskins fans loudly booed the amateur golfer. Tony and Tiger Woods played together Wednesday at the tournament’s Pro-Am round and at the press conference just before they teed off, it sounded like the golf champion was not prepared for Redskin fan reaction. “As far as him coming here, we’re very lucky to have him here, to have him come out and have Jessica [Simpson] come out and sing the National Anthem is gonna be pretty special for all of us. For him to come here to D.C., certainly I didn’t realize it was gonna be THIS big a deal. He’s a big golf nut, and loves to play golf, has tried to qualify for U.S. opens before, and loves to play and understands how to play. I’ve always wanted to play with him and he accepted our invitation to come out and play, which was awfully nice of him. It’s gonna be a fun round, but also an interesting one. He’s used to being booed. It is what it is.”
Tony Romo is an avid golfer, but has tried and failed to qualify for a spot at the U.S. Open for the last two years.

Jessica was wearing a black and red striped dress that didn’t flatter her, and looks maybe-pregnant from some angles. She is not a big woman by any means but she often picks out clothing that isn’t suited for her. It’s probably just the dress. She looks gorgeous and this is not a commentary on her weight at all.
Kaiser pointed me to this kind of sweet interview with Tony Romo that was published yesterday in People. Romo was accompanying a 10 year-old boy with leukemia to betting practice at Yankee stadium. He said that things with Jessica were going well and that they have a low-key life together:
“It’s a normal relationship,” Romo, smiling and relaxed, told PEOPLE during batting practice at Yankee Stadium as Starter athletic gear chaperone to Ben Brant, a 10-year-old Albany, N.Y., boy diagnosed with leukemia.
“There’s nothing exotic or crazy about it,” Romo, 29, says of Simpson. “We’re two people who care about each other, and it’s not hard to make it work when both of you want to see the other one. We make each other happy.”
As for how their relationship is faring, “It’s going good,” he says. “We have a fun being around each other. She’s a great girl. We enjoy each other’s company.”

Tony has stuck by Jessica for a while, and he seems like a standup kind of guy who really cares for her. I kind of hope they get engaged and married if that’s what they want. It seems like Jessica would be thrilled with a proposal and I would bet she’s been waiting for one for some time.

I think she knew exactly what she was doing. She never gets more press than she does for her unflattering outfits and the speculation about her body. People will either A) think she’s pregnant, or B) question her weight. Either way, it’s more press and exposure. No one hardly talks about her singing anymore, so her body is all she really has left to sell. I have to give her props on being so self-aware of her true DD talents!

I got no love for this semi-talented airhead, but I think she looks so much better when she’s got little or no make up on…or at least the so-called “natural” make-up look. when she’s fully made up she looks like a tranny.

Tony Romo seems like a dull, stereotypical jock tool…in their pics together you can tell by the body language that she is way more into him than he is to her.. I figure he’s still around because the sex must be epic…I would be surprised if they actually got married. If they do, I doubt it will last long.
Jessica just strikes me as incredibly sad and lonely behind the fake smiles…she so needs to emancipate herself from her creepy dad.

I like her, she can sing, but she can be over the top sometimes. I watched it, and it’s incredibly stupid to compare this to Roseanne’s performance. Seriously. Radar Online is ridiculous. Picking on an easy target and they’re way off.

OMG - I turned on the golf channel yesterday for the daily updates and she was singing when I turned it on - I was like who the hell is that??? Honestly, I had to turn it off, it was that bad. To discover it was Jessica this morning - oh my!

I think she did a pretty good job with the anthem. It’s rare to hear it a cappella, there’s nothing to mitigate the bad notes. She missed the high note on “free” but still a good job overall. People just like to pick on her.

She probably would have been much better off if she hadn’t attempted to put so much ’soul’ into it and sung it straight. And it wouldn’t have caused her to make such unfortunate faces. If you’re in that much pain while you’re singing, imagine how the audience feels.

She’s definitely heavier than she used to be, but she’s still probably only a size six. I think she looks great - healthy and happy. Good for her, and them. I hope they make it work.

I got called a slut by the POS i was dating (I’m the least slutty girl you’ll probably ever meet meet. I’m pretty much a Protestant Nun) and i thought that was about as low as it could get. But being dumped on the night before her 29th BD? Not cool.
