Michael Douglas’ statement about son; Cameron moved to Federal prison

Yesterday, we heard that the girlfriend of Cameron Douglas, Michael Douglas’ 30 year-old son, was arrested for attempting to slip him heroin in an electric toothbrush while he was under house arrest. Cameron was busted for dealing methamphetamine late last month in an extensive sting set up by the DEA using an undercover witness. Official documents reveal that he and his girlfriend shipped drugs cross country in packages containing bath products and scented candles.

Unsurprisingly, Cameron has been moved to Federal Prison following his girlfriend’s stunt, and will no longer be under house arrest in his mom’s $9.25 million upper east side townhouse. (The NY Daily News reports that the townhouse was owned by Cameron’s biological mother, Diandra, while People Magazine reported it was owned by his step mother, Catherine Zeta-Jones.) There won’t be any more takeout and drug deliveries for Cameron, because he’s been reassigned to Federal prison to await drug trafficking charges.

It looks as though an electric toothbrush has conjured some dangerous consequences for Cameron Douglas.

The son of actor Michael Douglas has reportedly been moved from a cushy penthouse home monitoring to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in NYC.

Douglas was under the watch of a private security company, allegedly at the home of his mother Diandra, when his girlfriend Kelly Sott delivered an electric toothbrush stuffed with heroin in the battery compartment.

Sott claimed no knowledge of the heroin stored inside the brush, and is coincidentally being held at the same federal detention center.

Cameron’s famous dad has issued a statement about his son’s arrest, and it’s brief and to-the-point. Michael Douglas, 64, says his family is “devastated” and “disappointed” and focuses on Cameron’s addiction without alluding to the fact that he was dealing drugs. In my opinion, this is much different than simply being a junkie. Radar also reminds us about Michael’s “sex addiction” in the 1980s, back when he was married to Cameron’s mom, his first wife Diandra. Many of you mentioned this in the comments.

“The family is devastated and very disappointed in Cameron’s recent behavior. Any family who has dealt with substance abuse knows how devastating it can be,” Douglas said in a statement…

Accomplished actor Michael is no stranger to testing his parents–the actor went through a very public battle with so-called sex addiction in the 80s.

I don’t blame the Douglas family for not mentioning the drug dealing part, but they must have had suspicions about what Cameron was up to. Maybe they assumed he was dabbling but didn’t realize that he had a whole business built up – enough to draw the attention of the Feds and earn Cameron some serious time behind bars. I’m very interested to follow this case as it proceeds to trial and wonder if we’ll be learning more about Cameron’s operation and especially his clientele.

Another wasted life of a Hollywood kid (*yawn*), though I am curious about his clientele list. There must be some nervous people on both coasts.

  2. Firestarter says:

Why should the family be aware of what he was up to? After all, it isn’t like he is 16 and living at home, he is a 30 year old man, a drug user and I am certain, as all addicts are, skilled at lying to his family. The fact that they weren’t aware is no big shock, I am sure he covered his tracks well with the family and probably wasn’t even around them that much.

This is why I say celebs should not adopt children, their biological spawn end up like this, poor adopted kids, maybe they would have a better future as vendors than coke addicts in Jail.

  4. Kevin says:

He’s morphing into an ugly Glenn Close.

  5. Tess says:

    @ Kevin:

    Hilarious!!!

  6. Taya says:

Cameron will not serve an ounce of time. He will get off like every other celebrity. If he was a nobody, he would have been in jail a second after his bust, not relaxing in a 7+ million dollar pad. This is whats wrong with this society. Celebrities can do what ever they want without any consequences.

  7. lway says:

@ Taya – you’re probably right. Daddy will pay to get Cameron out of trouble –

This must be a really hard time for the Douglas family. Shame 🙁

  8. Firestarter says:

@Taya- I have said this many times before, this is a Federal bust. He was being investigated for over 3 years. In situations like that, no amount of money gets you out of serving time for MAJOR multi state drug trafficking and sales. The mandatory, minimum sentence for that offense is 10 years, THE MINIMUM. I will grant you, he may serve less, if he rats out his supplier, but if he does that, he runs the risk of taking a dirt nap at the hands of the big drug guys. Meth producers are a CRAZY bunch. I have read a lot about the guys who run the California super labs and the cops are even afraid to go in an bust them, so that tells you something.

So given the choice of a serving a 10 yr sentence or death, Cam may be smart and choose the former. He is a multiple offender who was already on probation, so there is no way a jury, should it go to trial, acquit him, and there is no deal the Feds would take that would absolve him completely. The question is not will he go to prison, the real question is how long will he serve time in Federal Prison.

  9. Tia C says:

@ Taya: I know you’re right, but I hope you’re wrong. He was moving some weight. Any average person would be doing some time. He should be treated the same way. But he probably won’t be.

A lot of addicts deal to support their habit. I’m guessing that when his father was referring to his substance abuse problem, he really meant everything – it all goes together – the using and the dealing. The dealing is part of the substance abuse problem for Cameron.

Ursula you have a strong point. Until recently I worked in a law firm doing estate planning. When it came to the testators’ immediate children, it was clear to everyone involved except the children that their entitled lifestyle caused no good to anybody whatsoever. Lazy, unmotivated to work, most of them addicts. The only ones that came through as successful, “good” people were the ones whose parents did not indulge and forced them to work to earn their own way through life.

So in essence, if you overindulge your kids with everything money can buy and don’t enforce rules or schooling, you’re only adding worms to a rotten apple and they’ll grow up mostly worthless human beings. Very sad.

  11. Lem says:

i don’t get the private security house arrest detail.

if the parents hired private security they are not going to turn in the kid

If the state hired private security. shame on them.

I imagine there are lots of hiding spots in a 9 million dollar condo.

I am sure there are drugs hidden in there he forgot about.
daddy’s blow from the 80’s still hanging out behind a picture frame?

  12. fizXgirl314 says:

I don’t think celebrities get off easy. The law loves to make examples of them. I think this guy is in for a world of hurt… sad

  13. Ruby Red Lips says:

This is sad, sounds so very serious, tho I don’t agree fizXgirl314 that celebs don’t get off easy, look at Lindsay Lohan for example, she got off so lightly purely because she was a celeb

  14. fizXgirl314 says:

Lindsay Lohan hasn’t done anything remotely close to the magntitude of this guy’s misconduct…

  15. Kelly says:

Another hollywood kid from a messed up dysfunctional family, not surprising he turned out this way. Daddy was probably always away working and over compensated by buying his son whatever he wanted, the mother was probably too busy with her own life to pay much attention to her son, drug dealing is probably the only job Camerson has ever had. I believe Kurt Douglas already lost one son to drugs and alcohol now his grandson is going to end up in prison. What a shame, that someone with such a fortunate life would waste it in this way.

  16. Ruby Red Lips says:

fizXgirl314, I agree that she hasn’t done anything as huge as this, but my point is that she is an example of a celeb who got off so lightly whereby a normal person would have been punished much more harshly

  17. Snoopchew says:

There should have been mandatory college and undergraduate work and degree.
If they did not want him in the “working class” then working for his degree would have strengthened his character which he totally lacks.
Now…I think it is too late. His life is ruined.
And of course Michael is devastated. What did he think this was? A cakewalk?

  18. Elissa says:

Michael Douglas did not enter Sierra Tucson for sex addiction, he was treated for alchoholism. This lie was started by the British press, and we all know how distorted facts about Princess Diana.
