John Edwards confirmed as father of Rielle Hunter’s daughter

RIELLE HUNTER
Back when former Presidential candidate John Edwards admitted to an affair with campaign worker Rielle Hunter in September, 2008, he steadfastly denied that Rielle’s baby was his. Edwards claimed that the baby, who was five months old at that time, was fathered by another campaign aid, Andrew Young. The National Enquirer, which broke this story, revealed that Young, his family, Rielle and the baby were all living rent free in a mansion in Santa Barbara. They were also reportedly being paid off to keep quiet, with the amounts listed at $20k a month for Young and $15k a month for Hunter, all off the books and through supporters. Young, his family, and Hunter relocated separately after the payments ceased. Edwards is now under federal investigation for misusing campaign finances.

The heat is on, as hearings are underway to determine exactly how Edwards broke the law. Both Andrew Young and Rielle Hunter have testified, reportedly against their former employer. Young is shopping around a tell-all book about his time with Edwards, and Hunter is also thought to be writing a book. What’s more is that Hunter has finally pinned down Edwards as the father of her daughter through DNA testing. She is said to be negotiating with him for child support payments:

John Edwards has secretly undergone a DNA test – and it proves he’s the father of his mistress’ love child, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

Multiple sources confirm the bombshell development, and reveal lawyers for the disgraced presidential candidate are privately hammering out child support payments with his former lover Rielle Hunter.

Edwards – who hotly denied he was the child’s father when he publicly confessed his affair with Rielle on ABC’s Nightline a year ago – has broken the news to his cancer-stricken wife Elizabeth, sources say.

But The ENQUIRER has also learned that Rielle testified against Edwards before a federal grand jury that’s probing whether he broke campaign finance laws by secretly funneling money to her – and her testimony could send the former North Carolina senator to jail!

The positive DNA test finally ends the elaborate cover-up that Edwards engineered to hide the fact that he fathered Rielle’s 18-month-old daughter Frances.

As The ENQUIRER previously reported in a series of explosive investigative reports, the cover-up involved “hush money” paid to Rielle and Andrew Young, a once-loyal Edwards aide who claimed he’d fathered her child. The secret payments were made by the late Fred Baron, who was Edwards’ national finance chairman.

With Young being left out to dry by Edwards, he pulled a “John Dean” to testify before the grand jury before he could publish his tell-all book about the conspiracy.

“Rielle had no choice but to demand John take a DNA test,” said the close friend.

“She was worried about getting long-term financial support for her daughter. So she hired an attorney, and John consented to undergo a secret swab test to establish paternity.

“There was no surprise: The results of the DNA test proved John was Frances’ daddy.”

Another source confirmed to The ENQUIRER: “John always knew he was the father of Rielle’s baby.

“Despite the ongoing financial negotiations, sources say Rielle testified against Edwards in front of the grand jury, spending nine hours inside the courthouse on Aug. 6 in Raleigh, N.C.

Rielle’s testimony against Edwards came as a “cooperating witness” for the government, added a source familiar with the investigation.

“Rielle is not dumb. She knew the feds had subpoenaed her bank statements and knew about every payment she received,” said the source.

“The FBI told her it was in her best interests to tell the truth, and she did. And unlike the others who have testified, Rielle was driven to the court by FBI agents and escorted in by them. She got favorable treatment because she testified against John.”

The arrogance with with Edwards pulled off this lame conspiracy is astounding. Everyone knew that baby was his and he should have just admitted it last year when he was forced to own up to his affair. Instead, even his cancer-striken wife was claiming that she wasn’t sure about the paternity of that baby while defending her husband and vilifying his mistress. Now he’s about to pay for his stupid scheme, and sadly it’s his deceived wife and family that are going to suffer for it. Maybe he’ll get some time in Federal prison too.

*lol* It’s always fun to watch an arrogant ego deflate, though I’m sure he feels none of this is his fault.

  2. Tony says:

Thanks for publishing this story. John Edwards typifies the political elite in the USA. Say one thing and do the opposite.

What’s funny is that these “brilliant” people do the same dumb-ass mistakes the rest of the people make.

I hope she socks it to him for child support. My sympathy to Mrs. Edwards, she does not need this.

  3. Duh says:

No sympathy for him or his wife, they both knew what was going on and covered it up for the chance to be president & 1st lady. Disgusting. They’re both culpable.

  4. barneslr says:

This falls under the category of no shit. Did they actually think anyone believed he wasn’t the father?

  5. Miranda says:

Why do these guys ever bother denying paternity? On a million-to-one hope that the DNA test is faulty? Still, this case isn’t as bad as when the World took one look at the offspring of Boris Becker, Steve Bing and Mick Jagger, listened to their plaintive paternity denials and then split their sides laughing…

  6. boo says:

Of course this selfish jackass knew it was his baby (whomever did the quiz of douchbags on this site a couple of days ago should have included John Edwards). I used to have sympathy for Eliz. Edwards but now I have none simply because she was willing to let him run for president knowing he had had an affair with RH. EE is also calling the mother of her children’s half sibling “pathetic” which is just not cool. She knew damn well that baby was her husbands. The Edwards make me sick with all the money and self entitlement involved.

  7. Firestarter says:

@Duh- I agree. The only thing I feel badly about is his wife being so terribly ill, but she stood by her man all to allow him to pursue his political ambitions. I can se an ill woman not wanting to publicly duke it out with her husband, but to stand back and cover up for the length of time she did is not normal.

Typical sleazy politician. Democrat or Republican, they are all corrupt liars and hypocrites.

  8. maddie says:

He should have went on the Maury Show they would have paid for the DNA test.

I feel for those kids losing a sibling then their mom only to get stuck with a lying sack of sh*t for a father and a new sibling with a crazy lady for it’s mother.

I wouldn’t be surprized if he marries this whore after his wife dies.

  9. clare says:

CB, in the first sentence you have listed Rielle’s last name as “Edwards” instead of “Hunter”.
John Edwards has certainly turned out to be a disappointment to everyone concerned.

  10. Celebitchy says:

@Clare -thanks I will fix that!

  11. Tia C says:

Anyone else notice Rielle Hunter bears a passing resemblance to Dina Lohan? lol

  12. Cinderella says:

She better get that settlement before he gets shipped off to prison.

  13. HS says:

b/c we believed he wasn’t the father? PSSSHHhhhh…. DUUuuuuuuhhhhhhh.

    He is a total Asshat.

  14. gg says:

@ boo – who said “EE is also calling the mother of her children’s half sibling ‘pathetic'”

OH dear, METHINKS the lady doth protest too much. EE should’ve ducked out a longass time ago and thwarted her husband’s denial parade.

Also firestarter called it – they all seem to be liars, liars, pants on fires.

Btw, boo – are you the boopants I know and love? 😀 (if so, you’ll know who I am.)

  15. Nev says:

He is scum but I don’t understand putting Elizabeth down. She did not sleep with Hunter. It was never her place to have any thing to do with it. She should have told any one that brought it up to get out of her face. She was far to nice.

  16. Lem says:

I’m offended. He paid the man who fake sexed more than the woman who really sexed. 60 thousand dollars more a year to the cover-up man than the mistress.?!
    $240,000/year plus housing and expenses.
Who can I pretend to sleep with?

That poor little girl is going to have some serious daddy issues!

  17. Catherine says:

@Firestarter, don’t feel sorry for Elizabeth Edwards. She took this whole thing more public by writing a book where this whole saga was displayed for everyone while she earned a pretty penny. The sad, betrayed wife? Sure, for a price.

  18. Tia C says:

@ Catherine – LOL. Exactly what I’ve been thinking during this whole thing. EE got her piece of the pie. She’s not (that much of) a victim.

Having said that, I wouldn’t want to be in her position. Or her husband’s! What a mess his life has become!

  19. jeannified says:

    “Duh”…I completely agree with you!

  20. David Shantz says:

More and more, the black suits and ties crowd represent corruption, degraded values and a vacuum of integrity.

The message for us all is to strive to live with Truth.

  21. boo says:

Hi gg- I am not your boo-pants! Sorry! Elizabeth Edwards did an interview with somebody where she said something like like my life might be tragic but that woman (reille) is pathetic.

  22. raven says:

I like EE a lot. I feel sorry that she chose John Edwards to marry. He was never that bright and was good at one thing–if he hadn’t been a litigator he would have been a preacher. I always thought something was “off” about him and he has turned out to really be a fake.

Someone said awhile back that EE would die before too long and he would end up with Rielle. I’ll be it happens if he doesn’t end up behind bars.

  23. sandy says:

yes, raven your 1st paragraph seems spot on.
furthermore, ee’s life history is pretty unimaginable.
their first born (son) was killed in a car crash when he was 16. later, in a very late attempt to have kids- she took hormones and fertility procedures to have 2 more kids at ages 48 and 50. (which some doctors believe can cause breast cancer). now she has terminal cancer.
her life is tragic and to think she suffered through all that and now has to deal with john’s infidelity and paternity of frances.
i don’t know how she does it?

  24. Mme X says:

oh dear. I guess we all saw this one coming, didn’t we?

  25. Snoopchew says:

When I saw a cable TV quip about him during his campaign for prez, I knew he was in serious trouble.
He was looking at himself in a mirror singing “I Feel Pretty”. Believe it or not, he was more arrogant then, than the prez we have right now. Politicians…..off with them all!

  26. drm says:

What I remember is all the people who got on here and defended the man and made a huge stink about those who said the baby was his (DUH) being “Christian haters”

PULEEZE! May I suggest a side of tomato sauce with your humble pie? The man is about as Christian as Osama Bin Laden. A liar, a cheater, and an embezzler. Sweet…remind me again where in the Bible he got those values from?

  27. iris says:

Rillie Hunter is the lowest person ever! She was having sex with Edwards while his wife was battling cancer.

she is a despicable, worthless, trashy, dishonest, dirty snake.

  28. Lilly says:

Elizabeth Edwards didn’t have to villify Rillie Hunter…she did that to herself…not excusing him in the least…but shes a home wrecking slut pure and simple.

EE is battling terminal cancer…how many of you blasting her could do that and leave your husband….get your heads out of your @sses and stop being such snakes.

  29. Nicole says:

I doubt he will marry her now. If she had played her cards right she might have gotten to be the next Mrs. Edwards but being the type of woman she is she blew it. Glad of that. His poor kids having her for a step-Mom is pretty sad..

  30. Magsy says:

That lying sob Edwards needs to retire from politics and support his child.

  31. Jag says:

I can’t believe that I ever liked him. He certainly showed his true colors, and I’m really very happy that it happened in time to have him lose the Dem nomination.
